Origin

Emrys was a druid of whom his parents where unknown, though some books say he was the son of an incubus (incubus is the male form, succubus the female), a demon who makes children with humans, to explain his magic powers. In another book he is the son of a princes, but still has no father, and they want to sacrifice him to prevent the destruction of king Vortigern’s tower. (based on the legend called: the red dragon of wales)(before Arthur) There is also a tale in which Emrys is the son of a Fincayran king (Fincayra is an island which connects heaven and earth, the race living there has the ears of a demon, and once had the wings of an angel, its unsure how they lost them.)  and a druid mother, in this tale the grandfather of Emrys is spoken about too, he was a great mage. So we don’t know much of his roots. (or too much to find the right one.) (there are probably more but I can’t find any.)

Deeds

The most legendary of his deeds is of course the sword in the stone, which Arthur has to pull out of the stone to become king, the swords name is Excalibur. Emrys is the one who trained Arthur to become a king. He also remained the advisor of arthur after he became king. There is a legend about Emrys making Stonehenge as a burial place for  Aurelius Ambrosius.  

Abilities

Magic of course but that is a very wide variety of things. There are texts that suggest shape shifting was one of his powers, those texts say that he appeared as a variety of people in front of Uther and Arthur Pendragon. Talking to animals, I’m not sure when he used that, but he could according to several texts.  He was a prophet who could tell the future. And  a master healer in some other tales.

Writing about Emrys is quite hard since for  every piece of information you find, you find another one that is completely different. So it’s still incomplete, I’ll try to make a more complete version later.

Poor Captain Britain never really caught on before this groundbreaking story – He was a lazily composite mix of other heroes who just happened to be situated in the UK. He only had about thirty to forty adventures often in supplementary stories in magazines featuring the staple heroes such as The Hulk & Spiderman.

The central problem was that Captain Britain could have been anywhere and anyone. He might as well have been Captain Armenia, Captain Australia, Captain Cameroon, etc. The stories had few decent British characters or settings. People around Brian Braddock were just there to be gobsmacked when he flew by or saved them from the peril of the week. His commercial appeal was waning and he seemed destined to be scrapped and forgotten.

Dez Skinn set out to change the fortunes of Britain’s own hero, by rooting an adventure firmly in Celtic British mythical traditions and folk-lore, with greatly improved art-work. The result was The Black Knight quest for Otherworld, a Tolkien-derivative adventure with witches, wizards, elves and goblins galore.

The Black Knight is a genuinely intriguing figure, flying the skies on a Pegasus like winged horse called Valinor. We see him initially saving a crashing coast-guard helicopter on the Cornish coast, observed by a mysterious amnesia-suffering stranger, who we soon identify as Captain Britain.

The pair is soon attacked by various demonic entities unleashed by the evil Mordred, nemesis to King Arthur in the well-worn and trawled Mallory stories. Aided by a white witch (before Mordred turns her into a tree0, and a stranger known simply as The Walker (Aragorn in all but name), the heroes set off to find a mysterious magical realm called Otherworld, where Merlyn (a deliberate mis-spelling of Merlin), who will begin the process of identifying Captain Britain’s true origins and identity. Sadly, this is left for the next volume of the graphic collection, which gave space over to the Captain’s lesser adventures, the very stories deemed too weak to give him a long shelf life in the first place.

The Black Knight adventure is beautifully drawn and at times, genuinely intriguing, with odd touches, such as revealing who Captain Britain is even with no one really knowing for sure, and elves who are actually the size of dwarfs.

Ultimately, the revival worked, with the good Captain becoming more three dimensional, and enduring. Readers were buying the Hulk comics to see the man in red as much as the not-so-jolly green giant at work. The success lies in making the characters surrounding Captain Britain interesting and less stereotypical too, though Mordred seems to be little more than a nuisance villain who simply unleashes fresh menace every time the good guys beat the last one. Why he doesn’t turn the Knight and the flying hero into trees as he does with the witch is perhaps best not considered too deeply.

We hear the wonderful stories of the mythical wizard Merlin from the tales. But that is the Merlin of fiction. The real Merlin was much darker with prophecies that foretold the end of the world. The prophecies of Merlin seem to predict the events that happen after centuries of years. One thousand years before anyone knew that the America existed, Merlin predicted first American colony  by name. 
Merlin foresaw a British victory over Napoleon at Waterloo, and the horrors and evil of the holocaust. These events came true.“At that time shall the man standing on the shore of England speak instantly to the man standing on the shore of France through a speaking stone “. Magic and mysticism are important aspects of the legends of Arthur. Merlin and Morgan Le Fay are key characters in the myths and possess incredible and unexplainable powers. But not every magical occurrence is a direct result of human thought and will. Dreams play an important role in the legends. The subconscious workings of the minds of the characters reveal information about the future and sometimes prompt them in decision-making.

Geoffrey of Monmouth tells of Arthur’s battle with the Roman Empire as they try to reestablish Britain as a territory for themselves. As he marches into battle, he has a dream in which a dragon defeats a bear. He tells it to his followers and they interpret it “saying that the dragon represented [Arthur], but the bear represented some giant he was going to encounter” (Wilhelm 80). Later Arthur does indeed encounter a giant that has abducted the niece of one of his allies. As foretold in the dream, Arthur over comes the giant: “[Arthur] drove the whole blade against the skull-cover that protected the brain. Then the detestable one cried out and, like an oak uprooted by the force of winds, collapsed with a great crash” (Wilhelm 81). In this way, the dream was a prediction of the future.

Arthur’s dream of the dragon predicts the future through representations, but his queen, Gwendoloena has a more conclusive divination predicting the future in The Rise of Gawain: Nephew of Arthur. The queen says, “‘[T]here is at this very hour…a knight from Rome who is…on his way here. Have no doubt that you will find him pre-eminent in courage and prowess….His armor is impenetrable and no one withstands the blow of his right arm” (Wilhelm 392). No interpretation is needed here. The knight in question, Gawain, does indeed arrive the next day. Though Arthur challenged him in combat, he bested the king, and verifies the queen’s comment about his prowess and strength.

In addition to predicting the future, dreams also offer clarity to the present; they reveal the truth of situations. In “The Coming of Arthur” from Tennyson’s Idylls of the King, Guinever’s father, Leodogran has doubts as to Arthur’s lineage and so hesitates to wed his daughter to him. This hesitation disappears after a dream in which “…the King stood out in heaven, / Crowned” (Tennyson 17). This nighttime image of Arthur crowned in Heaven assures Leodogran that he is indeed the true king, and Guinevere is sent to Arthur. The dream does not answer his question about whether or not Arthur is the true son of Uther, but it indicates that he has Heaven’s blessing as king. This is enough of a commendation for Leodogran.

Dreams in the legends of Arthur are a source of mysticism that is just as important as the conscious acts of magical characters. Dreams offer predictions and prescience. They reveal the truth. In many ways, dreams represent the innate subconscious mystical qualities of the characters without supernatural abilities; the dreams give every character the potential to become a mystical figure. The legends are enhanced because more characters seem to be more than human in their abilities.  

After birth he was taken and raised by the wizard Merlin. When his father died, the knights made a rule that the one that pulls the sword from the stone would be made king. Arthur, while looking for an ordinary sword happened to pull the sword Excalibur from the stone. The sword is said to prevent the loss of blood during the battle. With the wizard Merlin’s help, King Arthur was able to bring peace and defeat his enemies.

While battling his nephew’s army, Arthur was injured badly. He had Excalibur returned to the lake when he was being carried away, and a hand reached up from the water to catch it. Stories say that Arthur returned to Avalon on a magic boat.

This book is about the past life of a woman who claims to have been in Camelot during the time of King Aurthur. I have read several books about by several authors about their past life in the greatest kingdom their ever was. This one however has a bit of a twist that I had not read before. It could use a little work on the way it was written but the story itself is a good one. Definitely worth the read if you have the time.
