The stigma attached to "living your dream"

Far too often in today’s World, dreams seem to have this stigma attached to them which labels them as something that should stay in the brain and never be given a very serious thought. Speaking from my school life in particular, which ended about two years ago, we would always be told by teachers not to aim to high as we would never make to where we wanted. I remember one day being asked where we would want to be in ten years time, and ambitious/unconventional answers where simply disregarded and labelled impossible and ridiculous. It seems to me the philosophy “make your dream a reality” is no longer a prominent one, instead we’re taught to take the safe option and know our place. I remember having an argument as far back as middle school around about year 6 with a teacher, she asked what I wanted to be when I grew up.. I replied “A Racing Driver” at the time that was my ambition and my ultimate goal, she laughed and said “you can’t be that..” and I said “why?” and she said “because that’s something that will not happen, so don’t be silly” I replied again “Did Michael Schumacher’s teacher say this to him?” once again “you’re being silly now” “No, if that’s my dream and ambition why is it not possible for me to work for it and achieve it, like he did?” her reply “because you’re not Michael Schumacher” and I said “and when Michael Schumacher was young he wasn’t Areton Senna” my point being how could she just regard a kids dream as stupid without even knowing me, it could of been anyone in that room she would of still disregarded it. Could of been Neil Armstrong in that room as a kid, saying he wanted to be an astronaut, it would have just been a stupid dream. The reason I’m writing this is because far to many people look down on people trying to achieve their dream, and see it as impossible and a waste of energy, but if it’s your dream you should persue it until you exhaust every resource, until you lay on your death and instead of saying “what if” you can say “I tried”.

An interview given to the Sun has repercussions on the continent. Nicole Scherzinger of Pussycat Doll fame and Lewis Hamilton admit to criminally dangerous driving in Switzerland and now might face charges over that and an accident provoked by Lewis Hamilton.

Scherzinger admitted in an interview with the Sun that she and Hamilton would probably be deported from Switzerland if it was known what irresponsible drivers they are. Apart from criminally dangerous speeding, she admitted to texting, using her cell phone, and steering with her knees while putting on make-up. While all this is consistent with British driving as we see it on the roads every day, the Swiss were taken by surprise by the sheer scope of irresponsibility.

Charity Road Cross has instigated a police investigation into the self allegations and into an accident provoked by Hamilton some time back in Switzerland when he sped over a stop signal. Road Cross is the organisation that represents the victims of reckless driving in Switzerland. They stated that irresponsible behaviour while driving should be prosecuted at any time but especially so with persons in the public eye.

While action taken against Lindsey Vonn by Road Cross based on an equally stupid interview didn’t result in any legal repercussions for Vonn, the case might be different this time as Hamilton has already been convicted of an offence in Australia earlier this year. Add to this his accident in Switzerland, and he really could be in trouble. Road Cross is bent on a driving ban in Switzerland for both culprits; this could make life awkward for them with their home on the Swiss side of Lake Geneva.

Realistically, nothing much will come of it as in Switzerland (as anywhere in the world) famous people are ‘more equal’ before the law than anybody else. Road Cross might wish that famous people should be role models to all of us, but unhappily they are only bad examples. The legal systems all over the world are no help in that either as they tend to prove in exactly these cases that you don’t have to keep to the rules if you are pictured often enough by the media.

At least, should the two of them feel above the law in the future, the Sun interview will be on file to prove that they do it intentionally and are willing to put the lives of others at risk. Even if nothing happens this time, there will be a time when stupidity will catch up with them. The Sun interview showed one main difference between Lewis Hamilton and his next door neighbour Michael Schumacher: Schumacher always used his brain to capacity to gain seven titles in F1.

But maybe the interview was just a sign of stunted growth. There used to be an advert while I was living in Ireland during the eighties: Grow up, slow down! For Lewis and Nicole that might be too long to understand, but maybe the ‘grow up’ part is within reach of their limited intellect.

Ideas on how to make street racing easier, more enjoyable, profitable and a lot safer for everybody!

Youngsters always look for racing games to play. Unfortunately, some of them choose street racing which is a form of unsanctioned and illegal auto racing which takes place on public roads.

Most people consider street racing as a useless activity by the youngsters. It is thought not only as an activity which wastes the street racers’ money and time but also endangers their life.

What makes most people furious about street racing is that it also endangers the life of innocent people who have nothing to do with the street racing as the race occurs on public roads.

What I am going to suggest here is that we should let them play their racing game away from the public. Let these people, the street racers and their fans, have their own place to enjoy the racing game.

Here’s what we could do for the street racers:

Allocate for them an open space on a piece of land with a size of one or two airports. Let them race their cool cars, hot cars, fast cars or whatever they call them in a less developed area in the suburb which has low real estate value.

Make it totally free for them to play a racing game – no entry fees, circuit fees or any other kind of fees or charges. They cannot afford to play a racing game legally at a race circuit like Sepang Circuit.

The racers and the observers must realize that they take full responsibility and will not make other people accountable for any accidents, injuries and even loss of lives.

Let the racers set their own racing rules.

Make the race track adjustable and let the racers adjust the shape of the race track themselves (by using cones or other methods).

The racers can race any time, day and night

No police should interfere with them, except in the case of fighting.

Surprised with the above ideas?

You may think that it is a waste of tax payers’ money. You may even think that these ideas will further encourage them to do the useless activity.

However, which one of these should we give more priority? Tax payers’ money or tax payers’ life (including the life of the accompanying non-taxpayers)?

We should give priority to the life of innocent people. In fact, you may be surprised if I say that my suggestion will not only save more lives but also generate profit!

Before I go on any further, let’s get into the minds of those who play the racing game.

These youngsters know that they risk their lives. They also know that their racing game costs money. So, we should forget about trying to talk into them and save their lives and money. As youngsters, they usually will not listen.

The only thing left that we can do is to get them away from us when they play their racing game so that they will not harm the life of other people.

And now, how are these ideas profitable and beneficial?

When the street racing drivers and fans gather at one place, they will become a more “visible”, identifiable and locatable market. The authorities can have business premises such as shop lots available and ready for rental nearby their race track as they are a ready market for the following products and services:

New and used fast cars, cool cars, hot cars, etc.

New and used motorcycles of many brands like Harley Davidson, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, etc.

Auto parts and accessories.

Racing apparel.

Athletic footwear and sports equipments.

Street racing videos and games.

Formula 1 products such as posters of Formula 1 cars, posters of Formula 1 racers like Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso, etc.

Magazines on fast cars, cool cars, hot cars, auto parts, etc.

Advertising space for auto traders for products manufactured by Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, etc

Petrol.

Food.

Good talents among the street racers can also be easily identified, extracted and exposed to legal racing. Who knows they could be the next great Formula 1 racers like Michael Schumacher or Fernando Alonso!

The authorities can have better control of modified vehicles. The racing cars and motorcycles can remain in the racing area at allocated parking spaces.

The authorities can save tax payers’ money as income from shop rentals, advertising space and tax on the race organizer can offset the land cost

The authorities can also save money and time required for preventive actions such as having traffic police chasing the street racers on public roads

And believe it or not! The street racers can even play their racing game more safely as there will be no public road users, no traffic lights, no buildings or any other obstructions on their race track! There will even be no traffic police blocking or chasing them!

So, let the street racers have their racing games to play for free. Who knows, the above ideas could make street racing a step closer to be transformed into just another kind of extreme sports.
