The different colors that you see in everyday life and stuff can influence your emotions and behaviors.

Blue = Feeling Blue? Maybe not

Many people prefers the color blue as it gives the feeling of trustworthiness and committment. The blueness of the sky above us and the ocean around us can often be perceived as an immense entity without limits, and it can also be seen as a reliable constant in your daily lives, something that is always there to give us support.

Seeing blue can induce relaxation and make the body generate biomolecules that helps to calm the mind. While not all blues exhibit serenity, blues with some brilliance or electric touch can be mind-stimulating, therefore encouraging a spirit of striving for excellence. Although the blue color tends to have a male flavour to it since most male baby products have some blues on them, the color of blue is actually equally liked by both genders.

Take-home Message: Blue generally calms, cools down and relaxes the mind and body, and sometimes promotes intuition.

Are you a greenhorn?

Green, in some ways, may be similar to blue, but it actually occupies a greater proportion of space in the visible light spectrum and is also a very preferred color by many people. Green typically implies nature and keeps us relaxed and free from the buzz of hectic city life.

Natural greens such as forest and lime give a sense of “refreshingness”, coolness and tranquility. Green itself represents the Earth and its ecology. It can also mean peace and harmony, free of unnatural contaminations from urban activities. Green is also a healing color due to its strong association with healthy vegetables and life-saving herbs.

Take-home Message: Green soothes your mind, makes you feel relaxed and harmonized with nature. It further relieves depression and anxiety, allowing one to feel in line with the greater natural good of life. It also promotes rejuvenation and better control of ones’ own thoughts.

A teacher and his student were walking from one village to another, when they suddenly heard a roar behind them. Turning their gaze in the direction of the roar, they saw a big tiger following them. The first thing the student wanted to do was to run away, but as he has been studying and practicing self-discipline, he was able to halt himself, waiting to see what his teacher was going to do.

“What shall we do Master?” Asked the student.

The teacher looked at the student and answered in a calm voice:
“There are several options. We can fill our minds with paralyzing fear so that we cannot move, and let the tiger do with us whatever pleases it. We can faint. We can run away, but then it will run after us. We can fight with it, but physically it is stronger than us.”

“We can pray to god to save us. We can choose to influence the tiger with the power of our mind, if our concentration is strong enough. We can send it love. We can also concentrate and meditate on our inner power, and on the fact that we are one with the entire universe, including the tiger, and in this way influence its soul.”

“Which option do you choose?”

“You are the Master. You tell me what to do. We don’t have much time.” The student responded.

The master turned his gaze fearlessly towards the tiger, emptied his mind from all thoughts, and entered a deep state of meditation. In his consciousness, he embraced everything in the universe, including the tiger. In this state the consciousness of the teacher became one with consciousness of the tiger.

Meanwhile the student started to shiver with fear, as the tiger was already quite close, ready to make a leap at them. He was amazed at how his teacher could stay so calm and detached in the face of danger.

Meanwhile the teacher continued to meditate without fear. After a little while, the tiger gradually lowered its head and tail and went away.

The student asked his teacher in astonishment, “What did you do?”

“Nothing. I just cleared all thoughts from my mind and united myself in spirit with the tiger. We became united in peace on the spiritual level. The tiger sensed the inner calmness, peace, and unity and felt no threat or need to express violence, and so walked away.”

“When the mind is silent and calm, its peace is automatically transmitted to everything and everyone around, influencing them deeply”, concluded the teacher.

We enjoy inner peace and feel happy and satisfied when life flows smoothly, and we have good relationships, good health, a good job and a good financial situation. We are usually at peace when there is nothing to worry about, no tension and no need to hurry.

Everyday life it isn’t always like that. There is always something that causes worry, tension or fear, and which does not let us feel peaceful and calm. Nevertheless, we can enjoy peace, regardless of the state of our outer circumstances. Peace of mind is an inner state, and is independent of outer conditions. Why wait for never, for circumstances to be “right”? Why let outside circumstances decide for us the state of our mind?

Inner peace is within reach of everyone. It is not dependent on outer conditions, riches or poverty, health or sickness, physical freedom or lack of it. Everyone possesses the potential to enjoy it here and now. It is independent of outer circumstances, and a trained person can enjoy it even under the most trying circumstances.

Thoughts and Peace of Mind

Thoughts arise in us and we think them. We may choose to ignore them and experience real inner freedom, or we may choose to water them with the power of our attention and make them grow.

When you have to think, choose only positive, happy and uplifting thoughts. Think about and imagine only what you really and truly and desire and that will come to pass. Always remember that life is shaped according to your thoughts.

When the mind is silent there is happiness inside and happiness outside. It is a great asset and advantage to be able to silence the mind when its services are not needed.

The attainment of serenity of mind, which is actually freedom from the compulsion of incessant thinking, is open for everyone, provided the proper training is undertaken. Just reading this article you will not bring you peace of mind. When you understand its value and have a true desire to succeed, nothing can stand in your way. Though this is an inner state, work, time and persistence are required, just like the attainment of any other tangible goal.

Most people are enslaved by their predominant thoughts and habits. It does not occur to them that they can become free from their grasp. From the moment they wake up in the morning, to the moment they fall asleep at night, the chatter of the mind continues incessantly, giving no moment of rest. The habit of constantly thinking futile thoughts that prevnt inner tranquility is very deeply ingrained in the human race. Nevertheless, this habit can be undone. The mind is a great and useful instrument, but it should not be allowed to rule our lives. It has to be obedient to us.

To change or get rid of an undesirable habit, we have to be aware of it, and consciously and attentively act in a different manner. Whatever new skill we develop, we have to train ourselves, until it turns into second nature and becomes easy to use. The same is with control our mind and thoughts.

True control the mind is not just the ability to concentrate on one thought and disregard other thoughts. It is the ability to cleanse the mind completely and make it silent. Sri Ramana Maharshi, the great Indian sage, has said: “Mind is only a bundle of thoughts, stop thinking and show me the mind”. When one becomes really free from incessant thinking, he or she becomes free from slavery to the mind, as both thoughts and mind are one and the same thing. One then also comes to see and understand the illusiveness of the mind.

When the clouds hide the sun, it is still there, beyond the clouds. Our Essence, our inner Self, is always here. We only need to remove the sheets and covers that envelope it in order to experience peace and calmness. These sheets and covers are our thoughts, ideas, habits and beliefs. I do not mean to tell you that you have to stop using your mind. You need it in order carry on your life. I mean that it has to be under the control of the Self. It should be your servant to serve you right, and not your master.

Advice for Attaining Inner Serenity and Peace of Mind

You don’t have to feel uncomfortable with words such as Self, Inner Self, Inner Essence, Universal Consciousness, etc. They may now seem to you meaningless words, but they are not. They symbolize something very real, not hazy concepts. Concentration and meditation make these words meaningful. Advancing on the spiritual path is not something hazy, imaginative and unpractical as some may imagine. By personal experience you will come to really know what I mean.

Everyone can learn a new language, but not everyone can reach the same level of expertise. Everyone can engage in bodybuilding, painting or writing, but each will reach a different level. It depends on the inner aptitude, the earnestness, and the time devoted to these activities. Yet, everyone will make some progress. So it is with training yourself to become free from the compulsion of incessant thinking and attain peace of mind.

Try to calm your mind when you feel agitated. Mentally, take a step back and watch your mind, as if looking at someone else’s mind. This has the tendency to calm and relax it. Develop concentration power and meditate. All these actions calm the mind and make it serene.

Following the suggestions in these pages and using the techniques mentioned in this web site, will start you on a marvelous journey. Practice, read articles and books on the subject and persevere in your training. One day you may meet someone who may teach you personally, as the saying goes: “When the student is ready, the teacher appears”.

Try to watch your thoughts during the day, as if they are not yours, without being sucked into them. Become conscious of the fact that you are watching your thoughts. Then this awareness of watching will increase.

You will have to remind yourself incessantly to practice watching your thoughts, as your mind will probably make you forget. Do not give up and you will succeed. If you practice as often as you can, you will be on the way to success. It may take some time, but the effort is more than worthwhile.

You can also increase your peace of mind by developing the power of concentration, by meditation, by physical exercise and by correct breathing.

Remember!
You are not your mind!
You are not your thoughts!
You are not your ideas!
You are not your beliefs!

They may be yours, but they are not you.
They are instruments that you use. Do not let them control you.
What remains after they are rejected, is you, the real “I”.

When thoughts cease, you still exist. There is no vacuum. When the emptiness of no thoughts is reached, you begin to feel your existence, your being. This emptiness is filled with something great, wonderful, powerful and sweet. You start living in Peace. You sail on the water of the calm mind.

This is Pure Existence.

When you realize this state you are free from thoughts and worries.
Then you are really free.

In this state nothing can influence you.
You stop acting instinctively on the prompt of each passing thought.
You become a completely conscious being, alive, strong, beyond everything.

Think of serenity of mind as a feasible possibility. Calm your mind with concentration, meditation and affirmations, and start enjoying peace of mind.

It's been long time I got a mood to write an article. I don't know what happens to the mind. sometimes it stops workig and can't able to think or write. I think it's all bsed on the state of mind.

It’s really hard to impliment what ever we say or write. Espeially controlling our emotions and reacting to the situations. I feel for the balanced behaviour we require a physical and even meantal health. Mean once we not physically fit don’t know the brain automatically stops working. may be this is the reason people say physical fitness alos the most important one. But I wonder when ever I feel depressed or stressed it’s not brain or mind effecting even physical fitness. People say and I observe it’s very hard to come back to normal mode sometimes even if we try hard. The man important criteria in the society to win is common sense but once we are not fit even we lost our sense to talk/or react properly. It’s really better to think and react but at times we find no time to think and we are forced to talk as per the situation demands. So I wonder how come we over come this. All the time silence won’t work out. Because people may think we are proud why because we are not replying or reacting. But it’s alway better if we learn how to act to the right situatuon. Even though we are doing our job perfectely it’s not always enough. Now a days it’s not at all ok if we work. It’s all based on the situation how we are handling. To overcome this we can observe the people around us and try to learn. Rather than that there is no other go. If we wanna win just adopt the things what ever we feel those are required and on the other way those are not harmful to others. Why because who wins with his/her strenghts remains forever and make us feel happy once we look back. But to have a controle on our mind and body we need a lot of exercise to do which includes yoga , meditatiom etc…..but it’s important that we need to have strong determination to sucseed in any of that.

Daydreaming, pondering the future and remember the past to spend nearly half our waking hours, according to the scientists.

However, they believe that the mind is constantly wandering is making us all miserable.

Psychologists at Harvard University found that we are most happy when we “live now” and do not think our position in the world.

They claim that our minds wander 46.9 percent of our time and when that’s what makes us most happy. Similarly, as quoted from the Telegraph

The lives of our most fun and happy when we are fully focused on existing work even more than when we daydream about pleasant things.

It is very likely to happen when we do the relationship of husband and wife for a married, working out or in-depth conversations with friends, as found by the scientists.

Listen to music and playing also helps us out of our minds.

On the other hand, the mind wanders most when we are resting, working or using our home computer.

Activities such as reading, doing work at home and watching television seem almost neutral effect on our minds.

The discovery seemed to indicate why the people enjoy extreme sports, join clubs and a chat in the pub.

Professor Daniel Gilbert and Matthew Killingsworth his fellow researchers said that the unique ability of humans to look back at their past and think about their future is a joint gift.

“The human mind is a wandering mind, and a wandering mind is a mind that is not happy,” according to the investigators’ conclusions.

“The ability to not think about what is happening is a cognitive achievement that comes with the emotional loss.”

The study which uses a technique called “experience sampling” seems to work on Socrates’ belief that “the unexamined life not worth living”.

Mr. Killingsworth created an iPhone application that randomly asking 2250 volunteers from around the world at different intervals during the day about their level of happiness, what they do and what they think.

Each time the participants were aged between 18 and 88 years were asked to choose one of 22 common activities and record how happy they were when doing this and also whether they think about the activities being undertaken or something else.

Researchers at Harvard University found that people’s minds wander on average 46.9 percent of the time when they think about things that do not happen around them.

In the survey, the participants said they were distracted no less than 30 percent of the time during any activity, except when the relationship of husband and wife, when they are more focused than usual.

Mr. Killingsworth said “there seems to be wandering mind in all activities”.

“Human beings are unique in their ability to focus on events that happen around them, learn from the past, anticipating and planning for the future and even imagine the things that might not happen at all,” he said.

“But when our minds wander we did not do so in ways that benefit our happiness. We do so in ways that are destructive.

This is true even when we are in positive activities and even in our minds when the topic is fun. “

He said, like many religions and philosophies, his testimony to imply that “now is the time to undergo” which gives us the most happiness.

The idea is to fight a wandering mind and to “be here now”.

More than 5,000 people are now using a web application developed for the study and volunteers from around the world are encouraged to enroll to expand the research….

“Entering a door from one room to another can cause memory errors,” says Professor Gabriel Radvansky of the University of Notre Dame.

The physical disasters that follow the continued use of intoxicating beverages are sad enough, and terrible enough; but the surely attendant mental, moral and spiritual disasters are sadder and more terrible still. If you disturb the healthy condition of the brain, which is the physical organ through which the mind acts, you disturb the mind. It will not have the same clearness of perception as before; nor have the same rational control over the impulses and passions.

Heavenly order in the body.

————————–

In order to understand a subject clearly, certain general laws, or principles, must be seen and admitted. And here we assume, as a general truth, that health in the human body is normal heavenly order on the physical plane of life, and that any disturbance of that order exposes the man to destructive influences, which are evil and infernal in their character. Above the natural and physical plane, and resting upon it, while man lives in this world, is the mental and spiritual plane, or degree of life. This degree is in heavenly order when the reason is clear, and the appetites and passions under its wise control. But, if, through any cause, this fine equipoise is disturbed, or lost, then a way is opened for the influx of more subtle evil influences than such as invade the body, because they have power to act upon the reason and the passions, obscuring the one and inflaming the others.

We know how surely the loss of bodily health results in mental disturbance. If the seat of disease be remote from the brain, the disturbance is usually slight; but it increases as the trouble comes nearer and nearer to that organ, and shows itself in multiform ways according to character, temperament or inherited disposition; but almost always in a predominance of what is evil instead of good. There will be fretfulness, or ill-nature, or selfish exactions, or mental obscurity, or unreasoning demands, or, it may be, vicious and cruel propensities, where, when the brain was undisturbed by disease, reason held rule with patience and loving kindness. If the disease which has attacked the brain goes on increasing, the mental disease which follows as a consequence of organic disturbance or deterioration, will have increased also, until insanity may be established in some one or more of its many sad and varied forms.

Insanity.

——–

It is, therefore, a very serious thing for a man to take into his body any substance which, on reaching that wonderfully delicate organ the brain, sets up therein a diseased action; for, diseased mental action is sure to follow. A fever is a fever, whether it be light or intensely burning; and so any disturbance of the mind’s rational equipoise is insanity, whether it be in the simplest form of temporary obscurity, or in the midnight of a totally darkened intellect.

We are not writing in the interest of any special theory, nor in the spirit of partisanship; but with an earnest desire to make the truth appear. You must not accept anything simply because we say it, but because he sees it to be true. Now, as to this matter of insanity, let him think calmly. The word is one that gives us a shock; and, as we hear it, we almost involuntarily thank God for the good gift of a well-balanced mind. What, if from any cause this beautiful equipoise should be disturbed and the mind lose its power to think clearly, or to hold the lower passions in due control? Shall we exceed the truth if we say that the man in whom this takes place is insane just in the degree that he has lost his rational self-control; and that he is restored when he regains that control?

In this view, the question as to the hurtfulness of alcoholic drinks assumes a new and graver aspect. Do they disturb the brain when they come in contact with its substance; and deteriorate it if the contact be long continued? Fact, observation, experience and scientific investigation all emphatically say yes; and we know that if the brain be disordered the mind, will be disordered, likewise; and a disordered mind is an insane mind. Clearly, then, in the degree that a man impairs or hurts his brain temporarily or continuously in that degree his mind is unbalanced; in that degree he is not a truly rational and sane man.

We are holding your thought just here that you may have time to think, and to look at the question in the light of reason and common sense. So far as he does this, will he be able to feel the force of such evidence as we shall educe in what follows, and to comprehend its true meaning.

Other substances besides alcohol act injuriously on the brain; but there is none that compares with this in the extent, variety and diabolical aspect of the mental aberrations which follow its use. We are not speaking thoughtlessly or wildly; but simply uttering a truth well-known to every man of observation, and which every man, and especially those who take this substance in any form, should, lay deeply to heart. Why it is that such awful and destructive forms of insanity should follow, as they do, the use of alcohol it is not for us to say. That they do follow it, we know, and we hold, up the fact in solemn warning.

Another consideration, which should have weight with every one, is this, that no man can tell what may be the character of the legacy he has received from his ancestors. He may have an inheritance of latent evil forces, transmitted through many generations, which only await some favoring opportunity to spring into life and action. So long as he maintains a rational self-control, and the healthy order of his life be not disturbed, they may continue quiescent; but if his brain loses its equipoise, or is hurt or impaired, then a diseased psychical condition may be induced and the latent evil forces be quickened into life.

Babies can feel that what others believe is not always equal reality.

Babies can feel that what others believe is not always equal reality.

Although your baby is very smart, he probably can not read your mind, he did not even know about it. New research indicates that 7-month-old infants are sensitive to others’ perspectives. However, more studies are needed to demonstrate whether the baby really understand that other people have their own beliefs.

The new study, published Dec. 24 in the journal Science, enrich study explores the first time when humans developed the ability to infer the intentions and perspectives of others, a cognitive ability termed “theory of mind”. Scientists have long debated whether it is physical ability or something that pops up when the baby’s brain to gather information and experience.

Previous research indicates that children can not distinguish between what is believed to be other people with the truth until they are age 4 or 5 years. These developments are explored in a classic experiment in which children saw a boah Maxie put the chocolate into the kitchen drawer. Maxie later go, and someone comes along and move it to the chocolate cabinet. Maxie then come back and ask for chocolate. The children were then asked if Maxie will go to the drawer, where she put her brown, or cabinet, where the chocolate really is.

Children aged 3 years to say that Maxie will go to the drawer, said cognitive development specialist Josef Perner University of Salzburg, who conducted experiments in the early 1980s Maxie. Although Maxie did not know chocolate was in the closet, children 3 years old can not seem to understand that this place is not actually chocolate at the thought of Maxie. “Only about 4 or 5 children to realize that he did not act according to the real world, but act according to his own world.” Similarly, as quoted from ScienceNews (23/12/10).

The new study involved a similar experiment, also using the test “false belief” that aims to gain whether the children understand that other people can have confidence in their minds that do not correspond to reality. Babies aged 7 months to watch a video about the smurf-like creature (character animation) which places a ball on the table, which rolled to the back bulkhead so invisible. Such creatures are gone, and fixed or moving the ball again. At the time the creature again, bulkhead denigrated indicating whether the ball there. Sometimes the ball place consistent with what is seen such creatures, but sometimes, as with Maxie and brown, these creatures have a false belief about the location of the ball, expecting the ball at the spot where the creature was last seen.

The babies look longer at the screen when the alleged creature is on the ball did not match the actual location of the ball, according to the researchers. This indicates that infants younger than 1 year to understand about other people’s beliefs, said Agnes Kovács of Hungary at the Budapest Academy of Sciences, who led the research.

Research does indicate that the baby is giving attention to someone different than the object, a view that is important for the development of theory of mind. “Many new studies show that infants have a more complex understanding of other people’s minds than we think,” says psychologist Alison Gopnik of the University of Calfornia, Berkeley. “They treat people specially from the beginning.”

However, conclusions about the human mind can not talk filled with difficulty, he noted. Using the way how long a baby looks at something is a metric that can clarify, but must be combined with behavioral tests, such as a baby also received certain objects, said Gopnik.

Perner notes that in the experiment Maxie, although the 3-year-old boy said that Maxie going to the closet, they spend some time looking into a drawer, perhaps because their brains trying to cope with thoughts collide.

He and others added that the design of the new study could have been stronger. For example, the experiment did not test how the baby will react when he saw the ball come and go without the presence of such creatures.

Still, the study investigates the important things, Perner said. “The study remains interesting because studies show that very young infants pay attention to things that are true.”

An essay on beauty of language and its existence in real life. Differences between literary and spoken styles of language.

Living in Spanglish. Since I have been reading books ever since I was a little kid, I have always been surrounded by beautiful language. And I always valued language and “speech/literary expression” style. Basically I kinda think “in words”. I can’t think in colors (for example), can’t think in sounds (much), I can do visual, I can do smells, but I like words best. I guess I think as a writer: when one writes a story, one creates images with words (at the end, it is visual but the reader consumes it in words and “visual”, in this instance, is the picture constructed in reader’s mind by words. The actual picture doesn’t exist (it is different for everybody), there fore the words are important by themselves (even if the reader will not get the picture, the beauty of language may concur his heart). Literature is more than just meaning. Beauty of words is its own power. So since I have always read, this pleasure was always there for me. For the last decade, in two different languages! Now I don’t read anymore. But I still love words, so I pay a lot of attention to the way people use them. Man, man, man, spoken language is so primitive! It is SAD. Are people loosing this ability since its not as necessary as before? (text & inet slang is “what’s up” now) Probably not, I just haven’t been paying as much attention before. One of my very favorite writers is still alive. He does off-life interview (people post questions, he gives answers). Been reading it for 15 years. His language is beautiful. It is even better than mine (lol). (I never really paid attention to my language, lately I do, and it seems to be quite excellent

(lol), well above average (like George Carlin’s)). The writer uses a bit too many foreign words, for my taste, but his language is a true beauty. His he an expert. He even knows Russian words that I don’t (its a pleasure to look them up). Wish I could talk to Carlin… Sometimes I watch c-span just to listen to proper English, some of yo-all can speak. lol. Life could be made a bit more beautiful by better speech, and it has to have a good effect on the mind.
And so I wonder as I wander around NYC in a winter jacket, wool hat and sleepers with no sucks….
