Eleanor Mondale dies, daughter of former Vice President Walter Mondale

Eleanor Mondale, the vivacious daughter of former Vice President Walter Mondale who forged his own reputation as an entertainment journalist in radio and print media, died Saturday at his home in Minnesota. He was 51.

Mondale, who was diagnosed several years ago with brain cancer, died early Saturday, the family spokeswoman Lynda Pedersen.

In a statement emailed to friends, former vice president said he and his wife “we must report that our beautiful daughter, Eleanor Mondale Poling, after his long and courageous battle against cancer last night went up to heaven to be with his angel. “

Eleanor Mondale stopped working at the radio station WCCO-AM in Minneapolis on March 19, 2009, announcing that a malignant brain tumor reappeared. He underwent surgery to remove the tumor on August 12, 2009 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and a publication on its website CaringBridge surgery called a success.

Mondale, the median of the three daughters of Walter and Joan Mondale, assisted in the unsuccessful campaign to defeat his father in 1998 to President Ronald Reagan. Mondale won in one of the 50 states, Minnesota. He returned to work on the Mondale unsuccessful campaign to replace Senator Paul Wellstone died in a plane crash days before the election.

A very attractive blonde who liked to amuse young Eleanor Mondale generated numerous rumors. His affair with the late rocker Warren Zevon were described in “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead: The Dirty Life and Times of Warren Zevon” (I’ll sleep when I’m dead: licentious life and times of Warren Zevnon), a biography published posthumously in 2007 by the former wife of musician.

Mondale began as an aspiring actress with small roles in TV series “Three’s Company” (Three’s Company or Three’s a Crowd) and “Dynasty.”

He began his career as an entertainment journalist in 1989 at WCCO-TV in Minneapolis.

In 1998, CBS reported that Mondale was one of the four women criticized by the White House intern Monica Lewinsky in recorded conversations because of the attention given to those President Bill Clinton. Mondale issued a statement that his relationship with the president and his wife Hillary was “purely friendly.”

Mondale was married three times: with the Chicago Bears player Keith Van Horne, with his colleague on the radio and Thunder Greg Chan Poling rocker from the band The Suburbs.

This is not the first time a head of state or a reputable international institutions involved in a sex scandal, like the one that is now caught Strausss Dominique-Kahn, head of the IMF. Presidents, prime ministers or other officials were involved over time in scandals with sexual connotations.

News has made a material that includes the most resonant moments in this regard.

During the second or presidential term, Bill Clinton was on trial for indecent links with Paula Jones and, above all, with White House intern, Monica Lewinsky.

On 17 August 1998, Clinton admitted that he had to do ‘wrong’ with Monica. On 11 September 1998 a report was drafted by the committee of inquiry headed by an independent prosecutor Kenet Starr, who investigated both cases in which Clinton was accused of sexual harassment.

The report pointed out that Bill Clinton lied under oath in Paula Jones case and obstructed justice in the Monica Lewinsky case. On February 12, 1999 U.S. senators have rejected the impeachment proceedings of President Clinton, so it has gone quiet office until the end.

In June 2007, Israeli President Moshe Katsav was forced to resign because of a sex scandal. On December 30, 2010, he pleaded guilty to two rapes on a nurse, committed when he was Minister of Tourism, in the ’90s. He was sentenced on March 22, 2011, by a court in Tel Aviv, seven years in prison in the harsh regime of detention and isolation, plus two years probation.

He current president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, was acquitted of rape charges in the case brought by an HIV positive woman.

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is on trial in Milan for sexual relations with a minor and abuse of office. The business is known as “Rübig”, named after the minor prostitute marocance Rubi, considered an injured party. In motivating the prosecution, prosecutors claimed that Italian Prime Minister was the host of orgy and had numerous sexual relations with young women. Berlusconi denies the allegations.

Former president of Zimbabwe, Canaan Banana, was sentenced to one year in jail in May 2000 for sexual assaults committed on some of his employees, during his presidency, between 1980 to 1987. He was released after six months of imprisonment, the sentence being reduced.

Former Malaysian deputy prime minister and current leader of opposition in this country, Anwar Ibrahim, could receive up to 20 years in prison if found guilty of sexually assaulting a former assistant. Decision on whether the court will be Monday, May 16.

In May 1987, Gary Hart, the great hope of American democracy, has officially announced he will run for U.S. presidency. After this announcement, the Miami Herald newspaper revealed that he spent a night with a young model.

At first, Hart denied back then, claiming that privacy should not interfere with the public interest. Eventually, the scandal grew, Hart was forced to withdraw his candidacy. Seven months later, he returned to the race but ended up occupying a modest place in July in the fight for breast Democratic U.S. presidential nomination.

Newt Gingrich, who sparred famously with President Clinton in the 1990s, will run for president in 2012.

Newt Gingrich, the man who almost single-handedly led a so-called Republican revolution in the 1990s when President Clinton was in office, has announced that it will run for the presidency in 2012. Gingrich’s announcement was published in several social networking Web sites yesterday, and came after several months of consideration by the former member of the House of Representatives. Gingrich entry in the field brings a little more strength to the Republican nomination, especially given his many years of experience and ability to charm big time donors.

His candidacy will be without its problems, however, as Gingrich has faced numerous questions of ethics in recent years and found even been involved in an affair with an employee, while at the same time criticizing the president for his relationship with Monica Lewinsky. Gingrich said in a note on Facebook: “I’ve been humbled by all the encouragement you gave me to run.” Gingrich also appear on the Fox News channel on Wednesday to talk more about the subject, and said: “I’ll be talking about my candidacy for president United States. ”

The announcement also comes after time spent raising money, assembling a campaign team and visiting the states that have early primaries. Gingrich has opened its headquarters in Atlanta and talk on Friday at the Convention of the Georgia Republican Party. From the beginning, Gingrich is well known among Republicans. Only 14% did not know who he was when asked as part of a survey conducted in March, and 61% had a favorable impression of him.

Bill Clinton's interview with Jon Stewart on the Daily Show was amazing. It blew me away! (ok, pun intended...)

Reason #3 why I’m voting D in Nov. 2010. Seriously, this interview blew me away…..

Airdate – 9/16/2010

This interview with Jon Stewart on the Daily Show September 16th seemed to make so much sense to me it was ridiculous. At the end, Stewart said, “I don’t know if that was a Jedi mind trick, but I believe you.”

I was never a very big fan of Clinton (either one) before I became “empowered” …ha. (I almost think about it like getting “saved.”) …anway, before I became empowered to be involved in my own country’s government. Watching this interview, though, reminds me of John Travolta’s character George Bailey in the movie Phenomenon, where he spontaneously develops super-brain powers. In a completely un-elitist southern voice, the former President seems just full of ideas. He spits out so many facts about business and money and government and jobs that Stewart wonders if he had any room for sports facts left in his head. I knew Stewart was awed though, because he was quiet for most of the interview. He just sat there and watched the former President unearth so much logic.

The most amazing part of what Clinton said in this interview was the situation he described with current job postings and qualified applicants. For the first time in history, he said, the rate of jobs posted is going up faster than the rate of people actually getting hired to do that job. There are a plethora of job opportunities out there, it’s just that most of the job-seekers are not qualified to do the kind of work the posted jobs require. If we could train jobless americans to do the jobs that are available, we would fill 5 million jobs according to Clinton. But, (and there’s always a “but) education spending seems to be getting the axe in Republican budget plans. The GOP plans to cut spending on education by 25% in the next 10 years.

One of the single biggest things we could do for our economy–train people to do the jobs that are available.

I’m voting Democrat in 2010 because I believe that education is the backbone of any free society and that common-sense is awesome.

E. Knight

Lately Tiger Woods and his relationship problems have been the highlights of the local and world news. When did gossip and scandal become news?

A few years back it was Bill Clinton and his scandal with Monica Lewinsky. Today it’s Tiger Woods and his women. While I can understand juicy gossip like the president of the United States having an affair is tantalizing to some people it’s still not news but just plain old gossip.

I am sickened by news reporters interfering in the private lives of famous people and celebrities. If someone went digging around in your closets what would they find? I don’t care if you think you are the most holy person on earth, everyone has secrets or skeletons in their closet. We are human, we have problems and when the media gets involved it only makes for trashy news and hurts those involved.

One day the world news is reporting on Michael Jackson grabbing his crotch and years later they are reporting on Brittney Spears shaving her head. Whether it’s parenting, sex, or etiquette our celebrity gods are constantly the center our of attention. Some people take joy in seeing them fall so that they may ridicule their lives.

Many people will say “well it’s the lives they’ve chosen so they deserve it”. Others will just feel sorry for them. What about the people who haven’t chosen fame? Some people like the “octamom” were forced into fame. And what about their children? Do you think the media will ignore the children of the overnight celebrity when they grow up? The children of celebrities are forced into lives of being in the constant spotlight.

Does the media not have anything better to report that they must shine the light on such trivial matters? If so, can’t they find something good to report like the single Mom that manages to work full time, raise her kids well, volunteer, and donate her time for good causes? What about the war heroes that save their buddies lives? These people only get two minutes of mention on the news. Yet, the news can find time to report on Tiger Woods issues so much that you can’t turn on the news without seeing something about him. I say the news should report the news and leave the trashy gossip for The National Equirer.

Some celebrities have very descriptive names. They are perfect for the person when made into an anagram. Monica Lewinsky turns into a "nice silky woman", but other famous names are not so fortunate.

Some very famous people have quite wonderful names. What makes them so special is that when you take all the letters in them and rearrange them, you can form quite descriptive anagramatic phrases.

The notorious Adolf Hitler doesn’t sound quite so frightening, or tough, when you take the letters of his name and rearrange them.

Source

Adolf Hitler: Heil, Old Fart!

Then there’s the very friendly Monica Lewinsky who is not best known for her discretion in romantic liaisons, or her good choice when it comes to partners.

Source

Monica Lewinsky: Nice, silky woman. (Really?)

Clint Eastwood has an amazing name which describes his movie career very well.

Source

Clint Eastwood: Old West Action. (There’s not much you can add to that. It’s the perfect name.)

Then there’s Jasmin Le Bon who is certainly very long and thin, but how did anyone know she would grow into her name as the years passed?

Source

Jasmin Le Bon: Mainly bones. (Oops! Wrong kind of Jasmin)

I’ve always thought that Eric Clapton was an energetic, rocking kind of guy but apparently not, if his name is anything to go by.

Source

Eric Clapton: Narcoleptic (Sssh! Don’t wake him up.)

Camilla Parker Bowles has become very well know since her marriage to the heir to the throne, Prince Charles. I make no comment on the anagram formed from her name. You never know, I might end up imprisoned in the Tower of London.

Source

Camilla Parker Bowles: Workable caramel lips. (Ah, isn’t that sweet, and what lovely finger puppets of the Royal pair.)

Then there is Placido Domingo who has a way of looking very serious and unhappy at times. Can someone please turn the volume up as he can’t hear what’s going on. . His name reveals the truth,

Source

Placido Domingo: God, I do complain! (Loudly, and usually waviing a stick.)

Not satisfied with tradition, these women were made famous by their roles in famous sex scandals.

Mary Kay Letourneau

Mary Kay Letourneau, a married teacher at a Washington elementary school and mother of four, began a sexual relationship with one of her sixth grade students. Latourneau took pleasure in working with her students, but one student, Vili Fualaau, stood out from the rest. He showed great artistic talent, and Latourneau showered him with extra attention, helping him hone his artistic skills.

In February 1997, Latourneau was arrested for statutory rape and only months later gave birth to Vili Fualaau’s daughter. Latourneau plead guilty to statutory rape and was sentenced to eighty-nine months, but was released on January 1 1998 for good behavior.

The couple went on to marry in May 2005 and now has two children.

Monica Lewinsky

Monica Lewinsky became a household name in late 1997 after allegations that the young White House intern was involved in a sexual relationship with President Bill Clinton.

After initially telling the public that the affair did not happen, Clinton admitted that he lied to the American people and that he had in fact carried on an inappropriate affair and had physical contact with Lewinsky.

Amy Fisher

Although the affair between seventeen year old Amy Fisher and a much older Joey Buttafuoco was not made public until after it came to a gory end, the scandal that resulted became prime material for news media and Hollywood movie makers.

Amy Fisher, who the media later named the “Long Island Lolita,” showed up at the door of her lover Joey Buttafuoco’s home, told his wife Mary Jo about their affair and then shot his wife in the head. Mary Jo Buttafuoco was badly injured and is paralyzed on the right side of her face, but did not succumb to her injuries.

Fisher was charged with several counts, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of assault in the first degree, and was sentenced to 5–15 years in prison in December 1992. (Buttafuoco was charged in October 1993 with Statutory Rape and served six months.)

Heidi Fleiss

By the age of 27 Heidi Fleiss , aka “The Hollywood Madam” was one of the most well known and prosperous Madams in Los Angeles. Catering to an elite list of customers and making several million dollars in just a couple of years made Heidi the main target of jealous rivals in the prostitution business.

In order to get their number one rival off the streets, several madams, pimps and even some of Heidi’s own working girls banded together to bring her down. After several reports being made, local police devised a sting operation that would not only shut Heidi down, but would name several Hollywood celebrities as clients.

Although none of her famous and socially elite clients were charged, Heidi was charged with pandering and tax evasion and sentenced to thirty-seven months in jail. The pandering charges were later dropped and she was released after only twenty-one months.

At the time that their sting operation was devised, authorities had no idea that it would catapult Heidi into the limelight and cause nation wide interest. Since her release, Heidi has opened a Hollywood Boutique called “Hollywood Madam” and owns a Laundromat called “Dirty Laundry.” She also plans to open a brothel in the State of Nevada, where prostitution is legal.

People often look up to politicians who are supposed to lead by example. So it is definitely disappointing to see them commit indiscretions that jeopardize their careers and create embarrassment not only for themselves but also for their country and families as well. Here are some notable political sex scandals in history.

Bill Clinton (1946 – )

President of the United States (1993 – 2001)

News of Clinton’s extramarital affair with 22-year-old White House intern Monica Lewinsky broke out in January 1998, what became known as the Lewinsky Scandal. After issuing numerous strong denials, Clinton eventually admitted having “improper physical relationship” with Lewinsky during his testimony in Paula Jones’ sexual harassment lawsuit in August 2008, when key evidences surfaced, particularly blue dress stained with his semen. Clinton was consequently impeached for charges of obstruction of justice and perjury by the House of Representatives in December 1998; however, he would be acquitted by the Senate the following year.

John Profumo (1915 – 2006)

Profumo, the Secretary of State for War under Harold Macmillan’s administration, was unfortunately best known for his involvement in the Profumo Affair in 1963. At the very height of the Cold War, he was accused of putting national security at risk by his short-lived affair with Christine Keeler, a showgirl who was also having a relationship with Soviet naval attaché Eugene Ivanov. The scandal led to his resignation and withdrawal from politics following his admission of having misled the Commons when questioned about his friendship with Keeler.

Gary Hart (1936 – )

United States Senator – Colorado (1975 – 1987)

Hart was clearly one of the favorites to clinch the Democratic nomination in the 1988 presidential election when he announced his candidacy in 1987. Then rumors started spreading that he was having an extramarital affair. In response, he dared the press to follow him around, noting that they won’t find anything interesting. However, Hart’s presidential campaign abruptly ended when the Herald was able to obtain pictures of him cavorting with then 29-year-old model Donna Rice aboard a yacht called Monkey Business.

François Mitterrand (1916 – 1996)

President of France (1981 – 1995)

Adding excitement to his 14 years of presidency was the thrill of juggling two families. Mitterand was publicly known to have had many extramarital relationships, the most notable of which was with Anne Pingeot, with whom he had an illegitimate daughter, Mazarine. He wanted secrecy on his daughter’s existence, even going to the extent of ordering illegal wiretappings under the pretense of fighting terrorism to guarantee privacy. However, by 1994, Mitterand’s imminent retirement and deteriorating health meant he could no longer rely on the clout he once had among the French journalists, who cannot ignore Anne’s and Mazarine’s presence at his funeral.

Mark Foley (1954 – )

United States Congressman – Florida (1995 – 2006)

Foley, the six-term Republican, resigned from Congress in 2006, following allegations that he sent numerous sexually explicit emails and instant messages from his personal AOL account to teenage boys who had served as congressional pages. As soon as the investigations began, many pages came forward, exposing at least a decade history of improper conduct by Foley and that it was common knowledge among the people on Capitol Hill including House Republicans, who chose to keep silent. However, no criminal charges were filed due to “insufficient evidence” since Foley only had sexual liaisons with some of them when they are no longer minors.

Pierre Sévigny (1917 – 2004)

Canadian Politician, Author and Academic

Sévigny was thrust into the limelight in 1966 when his affair with East German immigrant Gerda Munsinger while serving as Deputy Defence Minister under John Diefenbaker’s government was made public. It was suspected that Munsinger was a Soviet spy and could pose a security risk. For a few weeks, Canada became consumed with the country’s first national political sex scandal, the Munsinger Affair. Though absolved of any guilt concerning any breach of security, Sévigny was chastised by the royal commission of inquiry for his behavior, while Diefenbaker was criticized for failing to fire Sévigny upon discovery of the latter’s indiscretion.

Clarence Thomas (1948 – )

Associate Justice, United States Supreme Court

Thomas’ nomination to the Supreme Court in 1991 was instantly met with questions about his qualifications and opposition from several groups due to his conservative political views. Toward the end of the confirmation hearings that became notable for their sexually explicit content, the press released an FBI interview with Anita Hill, accusing Thomas of sexual harassment when they worked together in the early 1980s, leading to media frenzy. A few other women also corroborated Hill’s testimony on how he often made references to porn films, the female anatomy, his sexual prowess and various sex acts, but were not called to the stand. Thomas denied all allegations and was confirmed by the Senate by a narrow margin. However, new evidences, such as eyewitness accounts and video rental records proving his interest in pornography, were soon discovered but were later dropped as he had already been sworn in.

John Major (1943 – )

Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (1990 – 1997)

Having battled “sleaze” during his term and having suffered a devastating electoral defeat in the 1997 general election, it’s no wonder why Major tended toward a low profile retirement, indulging himself in playing his favorite sport, cricket. But all bliss was disrupted in 2002, when Edwina Currie, a former Member of the Parliament, published her “Diaries 1987 – 1992″ disclosing her four-year affair with Major from 1984 to 1988. In a press statement, Major said that he was “embarrassed” about the affair and had privately revealed the matter to his wife who had since forgiven him.
