Until now there has been no valid evidence that confirms the existence of Bigfoot.

The scientists discovered a strange tree that is curved in a remote region of Russia, Kemerovo. They suspect this as a hotbed of Bigfoot monster. Bigfoot is a creature who is described as having a big body, and fur all over his body. The trees are found by scientists at the same time it is curved. Curvature of the trees in Kemerovo was almost like bows. Kemerovo itself is known as a place of mysterious Bigfoot monster berkeliarannya this. Scientists are intensively researching Bigfoot from Russia, Canada, the United States, and Sweden met to exchange thoughts on Moscow before an expedition to Siberia. According to a biologist John Bindernagel (60) as dikutiup pages of The Sun said, “We felt the trees were not curved by ordinary humans or mammals.” Bigfoot nests are found scientists in Russia “The trees are curved like this ever happened in North America and can be summed up with the theory of how Bigfoot make a nest,” added John. “The nest is made of the trees we see around the same time is curved to resemble a bow,” added John. These creatures are known by several different names, such as, the North American Sasquatch, Yeti in Tibet and Nepal, Yeren in China, and the Yowie of Australia. Until now there has been no valid evidence that confirms the existence of Bigfoot. There are only a blurred photo or video that allegedly record the existence of this mysterious creature. One is video recorded Vietnam War veteran, Thomas Byers. He recorded a figure as high as 2.1 meters creature covered with hair, who weighs nearly 150 pounds were crossing the street and then hide behind the trees

This is the second part of a new series of articles concentrating on animals or creatures that may or may not exist. WARNING: What you are about to read may sound disturbing.

Today scientists discuss the possibility of life in outer space, on distant planets or systems. But in reality we don’t need to go to space to search for new species. We still often find new animals in places like Papua New Guinea and Madagascar. But is it possible for a large creature to stay hidden in a Scottish Loch? This article is about the Loch Ness Monster or simply Nessie.

Image via Wikipedia

Nessie is a mysterious water cryptid, a creature that science does not yet recognise. The first signs of a monster in Loch Ness dates back to the years 565 when st. Columba travelled from Ireland to Scotland in the hopes of converting people to Christianity. He allegedly arrived when the locals were in the middle of a funeral, burying a man said to have been dragged out of his boat and killed by a monster. St. Columba ordered one of his men to swim out and get the drowned man’s boat, but he was also attacked by a creature. Columba then demanded the creature to disappear which it did and then the locals were convinced that the God of Columba was a strong one and worth converting to.

But it was really not until the infamous Surgeon’s Photograph was taken in 1934 that the Nessie sightings exploded. This photo is nowadays considered a fake, but it still doesn’t explain the hundreds of sightings of a mysterious creature seen in the lake since then.

So what could this Nessie phenomena be? Of course the most popular theory is that Nessie is a surviving plesiosaur. This theory is very interesting but sadly very unlikely since the plesiosaurs died out many million years ago and would there be enough food in the loch to sustain a group of plesiosaurs for many million years without going extinct? Another theory explains that Nessie is some sort of whale, but the thing about whales is that they have to go the surface quite often to breathe, which makes me think Nessie would be spotted more regularly. Other theories suggest that mere logs can explain some of the sightings and even swimming circus elephants have been blamed! A more realistic and some would undoubtedly say dull theory is that Nessie is some sort of large fish, maybe a sturgeon, eel or catfish. These animals may explain weird movement in the water, but they just don’t fully explain people’s reports of a long necked prehistoric creature.

So what is the Loch Ness Monster? Pure imagination? A prehistoric survivor? A fish, or maybe even just a log? No one probably knows, and I have a feeling it will stay this way.

Remember to keep an eye out for more cryptozoological articles! There are more in the links below:

The following is a collection of quotations about leadership which I want to share with you.

(1)	Leader: a speaker of words and doer of deeds.
(2)	They should rule who are able to rule best.
(3)	In the highest position there is the least freedom of action.
(4)	The foremost art of kings is the power to endure hatred.
(5)	Ill can he rule the great that cannot reach the small.
(6)	Some are born great; some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.
(7)	We cannot all be masters.
(8) A leader has the ability to serve and to allow others to serve him.
(9) The ambitious man has as many masters as there are who can help his career.
(10) Great and good are seldom the same man.
(11) The subject’s love is the king’s best guard.
(12) If you command wisely, you’ll be obeyed cheerfully.
(13) The best leaders know they can serve and save the country.
(14) Great offices will have great talents.
(15) One can’t reign and be innocent.
(16) No one can rule guiltlessly.
(17) You cannot accomplish good for the people unless you face up to the weak and the foolish.
(18) You do not inspire confidence: you are too good.
(19) It is not by whining that one carries out the job of king.
(20) It is not with words and explanations of theory that nations are governed.
(21) The heart of a statesman must be in his head.
(22) The simple argument-two and two make four.
(23) One must be something in order to do something.
(24) A statesman must possess good sense and the courage to show that he has it.
(25) If you think you can win, you can. Faith is necessary to victory.
(26) To be great is to be misunderstood.
(27) The history of the world is but the biography of great men.
(28) You have to be like the pebble in the stream, rolling along without being dissolved or dissolving anything else.
(29) Man is truly great only when he acts from the passions.
(30) The philosophers have only interpreted the world differently– the point is to change it.
(31) There are thousands hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root.
(32) Be ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity.
(33) One person with a belief is a power equal to ninety-nine who have only interests.
(34) To be a leader of men one must turn one’s back on men.
(35) To do great things is difficult; but to command great things is more difficult.
(36) A leader must not be a monster like the monster he conquered.
(37) What is the use of being elected or re-elected unless you stand for or accomplish something?
(38) We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.
(39) Great men are like great mountains: one has to stand from a distance to realize their greatness.
(40) It is at a dark night when faith in light is admirable.
(41) We do not admire a man of timid peace.
(42) A leader is as big as the persons who believe in him.
(43) If you think too much about being re-elected, it is very difficult to be worth re-electing.
(44) One cool judgment is worth a thousand hasty counsels. Supply the light, not heat.
(45) Political and social changes take place when men are willing to take reasoned risks.
(46) The tragedy of life is not that man loses but that he almost won.
(47) Glory is given only to those who dream of it.
(48) Take calculated risks. That is quite different from being rush.
(49) We may make mistakes-but not mistakes which result from abandonment of moral principle.
(50) The final test of a leader is that he leaves behind him the conviction and will to carry on.
(51) There is nothing more agreeable than to make peace with the Establishment – and nothing more corrupting.
(52) Leadership-the ability to get men to do what leaders don’t want to do, and to like it.
(53) A great man’s greatest luck is to die at the right time.
(54) The leader is always alone in times of doom.
(55) Difficulty is the excuse history never accepts.
(56) No one has a finer command of language than the person who keeps his mouth shut and acts.
(57) No man can take the place of a whole people.
(58) Idols have feet of clay.
(59) If a man hasn’t discovered something that he will die for he is not fit to live.
(60) You cannot ask others to follow you unless you know how to follow too.
(61) I am alone with the masses.
(62) Charismatic leadership is hungered for but at the same time we fear it.
(63) Men of power have no time to read; yet men who do not read are unfit for power.
(64) Hard work-that is the recipe for great leadership.
(65) We want the best leaders. The trouble is they don’t get elected.
(66) A leader who doesn’t hesitate before he sends his nation into battle is not fit to be a leader.
(67) The real leader has no need to lead-he points the way.
(68) A leader is a dealer in hope.
(69) What you cannot enforce, do not command.
(70)	The leader must know, must know he knows, and must be able to make it abundantly clear to those about him that he knows. ###

The once so-called pursuers of democracy in Egypt is finally revealing its true colors. The bloodletting violence against the Christians seems to be the outcome of an animosity about which Hosni Mubarak was particularly concerned. His prediction that his ouster would not quieten the monster of racism and bigotry, spurred by religious fanaticism is rooted in the heart and soul of a belief that ones religion is supreme and, therefore, advocates a justifiable violence against the other. Lest we forget, these are the people that vociferously rebelled against their president who had himself warned the rest of the world to beware of the sleeping monster that doesn’t care about the finer nuances of democracy that include the civil rights of all citizens. Perhaps, his prediction is now ringing true.

Prior to this incident, one should also not forget the attack against the Israeli Consulate, not to mention the gross reversal of the peace pact between Egypt and Israel that has been violated by letting Hamas use the Sinai as a springboard to attack Israel.

It is hoped that the Arab Spring is not the Arab Autumn when the leaves of democracy would begin to fall, much to the regret of those that wished otherwise.

Fun and easy Halloween games that are great for Halloween parties.

1. Cauldron relay-cut out images of bats, bones, pumpkins, and other ghoulish things and place the same number of items on two plates. Have kids race to see who can suck as many items with a straw and place the items outside of the “cauldrons” by just using the straw.

2. Pin the bones on the skeleton or pin the nose on the witch- cut out a main figure of a skeleton body or witches face. Also cut out bones or noses for the children to pin on the figure blindfolded.

3. Bobbing for apples-add a twist to this game by using mountain dew and powder raspberry tea for the liquid and drawing or carving faces into the apples that you use.

4. Halloween matching game-cut out pairs of Halloween items (pumpkins, witches, bats, black cats etc.) and glue each picture on the back of an index card. Turn all of the cards over and have the children try to find as many matches as possible.

5.Body Part Guessing Game-Place a handful of food that should represent different body parts on separate plates. Some ideas are olives, miniature sausages, raw hamburger meat, bread dough, meatballs (the possibilities are endless), place the items under towels.Take the children into a small room and have them try to guess what various items are under the rags. Another idea is to make up a story to go with the items the children are touching such as “A witches stew” and tell the story and let each child touch the item you are reading about.

6. Trick or treat candy hunt- make up clues on separate pieces of paper that will lead the children around your house from clue to clue (trick to trick)until they finally get to the treats. For instance you can begin by giving them a clue to go to the witches cauldron which is really a cookie jar in the kitchen, in the cauldron they may find a clue that leads them to the witches broom in the broom closet where the next clue awaits.

7. Monster Relay-Divide the children into two groups (or more depending on the group size). Have materials for each group to make a monster (costumes, trash bags, newspaper,mr. potato head parts) and give both groups five minutes to create their own monster.

8.Spooky Sugar Cookie Creations-Give each child a sugar cookie and have different color icings, sprinkles, and candies available. Give them five-ten minutes to create a monster with these items. Give awards for Scariest, Funniest, Wackiest etc.

9. Mummy Race- Divide into groups. Give each group a roll of toilet paper. Have the groups race to wrap one member with toilet paper as a mummy in 30 sec. intervals. The group with the member most wrapped up wins.

10. Pumpkin Pass Around- Divide the children into two groups. Have them form a line. Give each group either a miniature pumpkin or an orange balloon with a jack o lantern face drawn on it. Let them pass the balloon without using their hands down the line. The first team to pass the pumpkin to the end of the line wins!

A brief history of horror films featuring werewolves.

“Even a man who is pure in heart,
And says his prayers by night
May become a Wolf when the Wolfbane blooms
And the autumn Moon is bright”

This is the most famous quote ever in werewolf movies, and one of the greatest quotes in horror movies in general. Curt Siodmak wrote these words for The Wolf Man (1941), starring Lon Chaney Jr., and several characters use the lines in the film. The Wolf Man is a true classic that set the standard for werewolf movies which still holds true today, and werewolves are one of the great monsters in the pantheon of horror films.. Werewolves are, simply, second only to the vampire when it comes to scary creatures..

Unfortunately, for the most part of the 20th Century, werewolves were used fairly ineffectually, with only a handful of films featuring the creature that were very good films. Between the early 1940’s and early 1980’s, werewolves were rarely the starring beast, appearing mostly in low budget creature features, such as I Was A Teenage Werewolf (1957), or The Werewolf Of Washington (1973). In many films, they were part of an ensemble of monsters, as in House Of Frankenstein (1944). The werewolf was even used as a henchman in a few films, such as Return Of The Vampire (1941). It seemed that Hollywood just couldn’t bring itself to make a really well done, werewolf centric film for decades. However; the werewolf may be making a comeback in recent years, and this is a very welcome trend.

The very first werewolf movie, a silent film called The Werewolf, was released in 1913. The script was adapted by Ruth Ann Baldwin from Henry Beauregard’s short story, The Werewolves. The film, directed by Henry MacRae, was released by Universal Studios, and produced by Bison Pictures. This film’s story is about a Navajo woman named Watuma, who has been taught by her mother Kee-On-Ee (Mary Walcamp) to be a witch. Using her magical powers to transform herself into a wolf, Watuma uses this ability to attack the white settlers who are stealing her tribal lands.. Watuma was portrayed by Phyllis Gordon, whose final film appearance, ironically, was in 1941, the year The Wolf Man released. Her final film was Bachelor Daddy. Unfortunately, there are no existing copies of The Werewolf, as all prints were destroyed in a fire in 1924.

The next truly historically significant werewolf movie was Werewolf Of London (1935), which set many of the conventions of the werewolf film genre. Henry Hull plays Dr. Wilfred Glendon, a scientist on a botanical expedition to Tibet, who is attacked and bitten by a werewolf under a full moon. The film co-starred Werner Oland, of Charlie Chan fame, as Dr. Yogami, who turns out to be the werewolf who bit Glendon. Some of the traditions established by the film were the nature of the curse of lycanthropy being something the bearer of the curse has no control over , the transference of the curse by the bite of the wolf, and the change occurring during the full moon.

Hull’s makeup was designed by Universal’s legendary monster maker Jack P. Pierce, and was originally the same as Pierce later used for Lon Chaney Jr. in The Wolf Man. However; the length of time it took for the make up to be applied, and the restriction of facial expression it lead to, caused Hull to ask for the makeup to be minimized. Hull’s werewolf is one of the least hirsute in cinema history, and to this date, he is the only werewolf who actually dons a cloak and hat before going out to hunt under the full moon. Werewolf Of London was not initially a financial hit, but has since gained a great deal of respect over the years, and is also recognized for the contributions it made to the genre. The script was written by John Colton, adapted from a story by Robert Harris. The film was directed by Stuart Walker.

Six years passed before the next great werewolf movie hit theater screens in 1941, The Wolf Man. In the film, Lon Chaney Jr. portrays Lawrence Talbot, who has returned to his family home on the English moors after the death of his brother in a hunting accident. Once there, he meets the beautiful Gwen Conliffe (Evelyn Ankers), and he quickly falls in love, He also begins to rebuild the strained relationship he has with his father, Sir John Talbot (Claude Rains).Things are starting to look pretty good for poor Larry, until he is attacked by a wolf on the moors late one night. He kills the wolf with his silver-headed cane, but is bitten in the attack. Unfortunately for Larry, the wolf is not actually a wolf, but a werewolf named Bela (Bela Lugosi). Bela is the son of the ancient gypsy woman Maleva. Maleva is portrayed by Maria Ouspenskaya, and she is a treat to watch in this film, as well as in the first the sequel, Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man (1943). Maleva tells Talbot the truth about the wolf that bit him, and also tells him that Talbot will now bear the curse. Of course, this is exactly what happens, and Talbot begins to turn into a wolf at night himself. People begin to die, and you know there will be no happy ending for Larry Talbot.

Excellently directed by George Waggner, The Wolf Man became an instant classic. A lot of the credit for the success of the film has to be given to Jack Pierce’s makeup for Lon Chaney. Pierce had also designed the make up for Dracula (1931), Frankenstein (1931), The Mummy (1932), and almost every horror film Universal put out from the 30s, and into the 40s.

Curt Siodmak’s script also receives a lot of credit for the greatness of The Wolf Man. Lawrence Talbot is the first truly sympathetic werewolf character, as Hull’s Dr. Glendon in Werewolf Of London was a rather cold, distant, and somewhat hard to like man. Siodmak gives us a werewolf in Talbot that is a man truly under a curse, and we feel very strongly for Talbot as fights against the curse upon him. The sympathetic portrayal of someone suffering from the curse of the werewolf has become the standard for generally every werewolf movie since, with a few exceptions. Werewolves are people who, due to the curse they are under, transform into out of control murderous beasts under the light of the full moon. This is Jekyll & Hyde territory at its worst, with the very worst of human nature exposed. However; being a werewolf is far worse, because this happens to ordinary men and women who become vicious animals through no fault of their own. Dr. Jekyll, after all, did choose to take his own formula.

Taking the brilliant script they were given, the cast ran with it, giving us some amazing performances. Lon Chaney’s portrayal of Talbot here is amazing, and you really empathize with the character strongly. It is undoubtedly one of the strongest performances of Chaney’s career. Yet, Rains, Ankers, and Ouspenskaya also gives us standout performances as the family and loved ones who are also affected by the curse. Maleva loses her son to the curse, and Sir John and Gwen have to watch as their loved one is destroyed as well.

Chaney portrayed the character of Lawrence Talbot four more times for Universal in the films Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man (1943), House Of Frankenstein (1944), House Of Dracula (1945), and Bud Abbott & Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948). In none of them, did Lon Chaney ever quite reach the same level of pathos as in the original film, although he still played the character well. A great deal of that can be laid at the feet of the directors and scripts he had to work with, each one seeming to want to make the Talbot character more and more over the top.

Universal also gave us another werewolf-related film, She-Wolf Of London (1946), which stars June Lockhart as a woman who becomes convinced she is under a family curse. She believes she is committing murders as a werewolf, completely unaware of doing so, as werewolf-like killings are happening near her home. However; it is a mystery genre film with no supernatural elements, and not a true werewolf movie.

From the time of Lon Chaney’s last appearance as the Wolf Man, werewolves seemed doomed to be relegated to being B-movie staples in films such as Cry Of The Werewolf (1946), The Werewolf (1956), Face Of The Screaming Werewolf (1964), and Werewolf In A Girl’s Dormitory (1961). Two notable exceptions were RKO Pictures 1942 film Cat People, and Hammer Films gave us Curse Of The Werewolf (1961). Both films gave us tormented souls who changed into beasts with a thirst for killing due to curses. However, in Cat People, an immigrant Serbian woman is cursed to turn into a panther when her emotions were aroused. Curse Of The Werewolf gave us a young man, who was conceived by rape, an unwanted child born on Christmas Day. He was cursed because a bastard born on Christmas Day is “an insult to heaven”, as we are told in the film. Simone Simon stars as Irena Dubrovna in Cat People, and Oliver Reed plays Leon in Curse Of The Werewolf. In neither film are either of the characters transformed by being bitten, but both are still tragic characters.

Finally, in 1981, three films were released that helped the werewolf regain some of its former standing in the monster community. The films were The Howling, An American Werewolf in London, and Wolfen.

In The Howling, Dee Wallace plays TV news reporter Karen White who is being stalked by a serial killer named Eddie Quist (Robert Picardo). After Eddie lures Karen to a porno store arcade, he is shot by the police in front of Karen, who suffers traumatic amnesia about the event afterwards. Her psychiatrist, Dr. George Waggner (named in tribute to the director of The Wolf Man) is played by Patrick McNee. He advises that Karen and her husband should go to an secluded retreat in the the mountains called The Colony, where he sends folks for therapy sessions. Of course, the doctor doesn’t tell them that The Colony is home to a pack of werewolves. The film is notable that the werewolves are not sympathetic characters here, and do not need the light of a full moon to transform, being able to do so at will. Joe Dante directed the film, and John Sayles wrote the script. The script was very loosely adapted from the 1977 novel of the same title by Gary Brandner.. The cast is full of some great actors, including John Carradine and Slim Pickens, with a cameo from legendary B-movie producer Roger Corman. The film utilized what was, at the time, revolutionary bladder makeup effects to transform a werewolf onscreen in a very impressive scene.

An American Werewolf In London was written and directed by John Landis. The movie is a darkly comic take on the werewolf film, while utilizing the cursed man theme again. The film stars David Naughton as American college student David Kessler, who is backpacking through the English countryside with his best friend Jack Goodman, portrayed by Griffin Dunne. The two are attacked by a large wolf, and Jack is killed. However; David survives, albeit badly wounded. He is taken to a London hospital, where he is cared for by beautiful Nurse Alex Price (Jenny Agutter), and both begin to fall in love, As he recovers, he stars receiving visits from the ghost of Jack, who tells him they were attacked by a werewolf. He also tells David that, for Jack to rest in peace, the line of the curse must be broken. He tries to convince David that he is now cursed to become a werewolf with the full moon, and that David will kill innocent people, David, of course, thinks he is just traumatized and hallucinating the gruesome apparition. Yet, as the full moon approaches, an ever more decayed Jack keeps visiting him, trying to convince David to kill himself before he becomes a wolf. Inevitably, David ignores Jack’s advice, transforms into a wolf, and mayhem in the streets and subway tunnels of London ensues.

This film also utilized bladder makeup effects in even more stunning visual transformations than in The Howling. Rick Baker was the makeup artist, who had gained kudos for his work on The Exorcist (1973). He went on to win the first ever Academy Award for Best Makeup for this film. He has since won six more Oscars, the most recent of which was for 2010’s brilliant remake of The Wolfman.

Landis had written the script for An American Werewolf in London in 1969, but had to shelve it as financiers found the combination of horror and comedy too delicate a mix. How could a really scary movie also be funny? was the idea the financial folks in Hollywood couldn’t get their heads around. But, after he had proven success as a writer and director with films such as National Lampoon’s Animal House (1978), Kentucky Fried Movie (1977), and The Blues Brothers (1980) to point, Landis was able to secure $10 million dollars to produce An American Werewolf In London. The film went on to be a success, and is the major reason Michael Jackson hired John Landis to do his cinematic long form Thriller music video where Jackson transforms into a werewolf, with narration by Vincent Price.

The final film of 1981 that helped revive the werewolf genre was Wolfen, adapted from the debut novel from Whitley Streiber, The Wolfen. In the movie, Albert Finney is a NYPD Homicide Detective, Dewey Wilson. There have been a string of violent and horrific murders that seem to be the work of a pack of animals, and Wilson is assigned to the case. As Wilson’s investigations proceed, he learns of the legends of a tribe of Native Americans that tells of shape-shifters called the Wolfen. He begins to believe the legends are true as events build to a climax. Wolfen was groundbreaking in showing us scenes through the POV of the Wolfen, using a process similar to thermography. While the film is not a true werewolf movie, in the fact that the Wolfen are actually a separate semi-human race instead of cursed humans, it does fit into the werewolf genre in general, as they arbasically wolves with more than human intelligence. There are no transformation effects or makeup in Wolfen, as live wolves were used instead It is an excellent movie, and should be on every horror fan’s must see list.

Since 1981, the werewolf has started to rise in the annals of monsterdom again, with films such as a Cat People remake in 1982, Cursed (2005), An American Werewolf In Paris (1997), Stephen King’s Silver Bullet (1985), Dog Soldiers (2002), Brotherhood Of The Wolf (2001), Skinwalkers (2006), Ginger Snaps (2000), Blood Moon (a.k.a. Wolf Girl), Teen Wolf (1985), and Wolf (1994). Dog Soldiers and Wolf are particularly good films of the genre, with both having a more original take on the idea of werewolves. Plus, you just can’t beat having Jack Nicholson playing a werewolf, right? Blood Moon is a particular favorite of this writer, with a wonderful take on the whole idea, using a carnival as the setting, and starring Tim Curry. Dog Soldiers has a sequel, and Ginger Snaps inspired two sequels. All three movies are quite fun. The Underworld Trilogy (2003-2009) brought us both vampires and werewolves, but the movies are a bit hit and miss. Underworld 4: Awakening is slated for a 2012 release, so it should probably be called the Underworld Series now. Of lesser cinematic lights are the numerous Howling sequels (SEVEN of them, and all generally bad!), Van Helsing (2004), Teen Wolf Too (1987), and the Twilight Saga (2009-2012) series of films.

Since 1981, werewolves have also started appearing more frequently on television in short lived series such as Werewolf (1987) and Wolf Lake (2001). Even the Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1997-2003) TV series gave us a lycanthropic character when the popular character of Oz, portrayed by Seth Green, becomes a werewolf. Oh, the woes of being a geeky rocker outcast teenage werewolf having to deal with being in high school. Particularly a high school located on a Hellmouth! The BBC series Being Human (2008-Present), created and written by Toby Whitehouse, features a main character who is a werewolf with issues that would make even Lawrence Talbot shake his head in pity. In January of this year, SyFy Channel started airing a North American version of the series, filmed in Canada.. Even the extremely popular BBC series Doctor Who had an episode with werewolves in 2006 entitled Tooth And Claw.

The best thing to happen to the werewolf in recent years, though, was the 2010 remake The Wolfman, starring Benecio Del Toro as Lawrence Talbot, Emily Blunt as Gwen Conliffe, Hugo Weaving as Inspector Aberline, and Anthony Hopkins as Sir John Talbot. The film was directed by Joe Johnson and written by Andrew Kevin Walker & David Self. The plot is almost identical to the 1941 version for the first half of the movie, and then changes to extend the scop of the original story in an excellent updating for a modern audience. The performances by the entire cast are excellent, with the performances by Del Toro, and Hopkins being particularly strong. Benecio Del Toro plays Talbot with a pathos that leads me to believe he not only watched the original, but studied it intently. With Oscar winning making effects by Rick Baker, combined with CGI effects, the film is visually stunning. A transformation scene during a lecture in a hospital will make fans of the genre howl with glee. Pun definitely intended. This movie quickly gained a place in this writer’s list of all time favorite werewolf films. While the critics didn’t show the film much love, and the box office was poor, the film has gained in popularity since its release on DVD. It has now become something of a cult film.

The werewolf stalks movie screens again, and has become a stronger character than ever. In spite of talk of a Teen Wolf remake, there is still hope that this trend will continue. There’s a bad moon on the rise, so keep your silver bullets right next to your popcorn as you indulge in these movies. Because, you can’t tell a werewolf from a normal person unless the moon is full. There may be one sitting in the seat right next to you in the theater as you watch the next installment in the Underworld series.
