Although most bugs are small and usually don’t present much of a risk, certain types of bugs are able of producing serious damage to people. Here are some types to watch out for when journeying overseas.

Mosquitoes
In Northern The united states, nasty flying bugs are more frustrating than risky. However, in Japan, African-american, and some components of Southern region The united states their articles can result in serious problems. Malaria is the most well known mosquito-borne sickness, and more than one thousand people die from it every year. Dengue nausea is also very distressing. Mosquitoes are drawn to black outfits, natural body smells in sweating and the fragrance of powerful fragrance or fragrance. To prevent getting an sickness, dress in light shaded outfits and rub orange cream on your skin. Losing pest rings overdue into the evening will also help to keep these bugs at bay.

Tsetse flies
You won’t find any of these bugs in Northern The united states, Japan, or European countries. In African-american, however, you will probably run into them more than once. Tsetse travels live between the Sahara and Kalahari deserts, and invade both creatures and people. They broadcast getting to sleep condition through a attack, and the condition objectives the people the lymphatic system and middle stressed techniques. As the name indicates, getting to sleep condition impacts a individuals scientific time and he or she will experience excessive problem and loss of awareness. The only way to prevent getting to sleep sickess is to prevent the travels, and one way to do this would be to stay away from heavy crops near quick waters. The travels may attack if they’re disrupted. Wear pest resilient and try not to trip in the back chair of pickups or jeeps. Tsetse travels are drawn to the particles left behind by these automobiles.

How far is too far with the Genetic Modifications? Are we unleashing our own round of plagues by altering that which we don't fully understand?

Genetically Modified (GM) seeds started as a great idea. Most commonly sold as “Roundup Ready” these seeds have the ability to withstand the plant killer “Roundup.” After the crops come up, the farmer can spray weed killer directly on the field and new crop. This kills all the bad weeds and leaves all the good plants that the farmer wants to harvest.

Of course, it didn’t stop there. The next step was to make GM corn and other grains so that they would be resistant to bugs, fungus and other pests. This soon led to the idea that anything can be genetically modified to make something “better”.

Unfortunately, these GM plants also have a negative side. There have been cases of some GM corn crops getting introduced into the human food supply, when they were only intended for livestock feed. The pesticides in the insect repellent varieties have caused allergies and other harmful side effects in people that consume those crops. Worse yet, there are new concerns of the effects of cross-pollinating these GM crops with natural crops. The results are the creation of “super weeds” that have the ability to resist insecticides and herbicides. Many times if this GM modified crop cross pollinates with a neighboring field of natural crop, the natural crop is completely destroyed and the GM crop is the only one to thrive. Along with the weed resiliency, new strains of bugs are being created which also resist the genetic modifications that are present in the seeds themselves.

As a result of these continued modifications, new diseases are erupting even in the healthy crops. A new pandemic striking many Brazilian crops is “Mad Soy Disease”. Just like the names sake from “Mad Cow Disease” this disease has no known cure yet. Soy farmers are losing as much as 40% of their yields to this rapidly spreading disease. The disease is causing the plants to never fully mature, however, they are turning green, and thin the tops of the leaves, while thickening the base of the plants until they actually begin to rot in the fields. The pods that are produced are deformed and lacking significant bean development as well.

If all that information wasn’t disturbing enough, new information just came out that a genetically modified mosquito has been released into the Cayman Islands. The idea was to modify mosquitoes to make them unable to reproduce in the hopes of helping to prevent Dengue Fever. About 3 million GM mosquitoes were introduced into the Cayman Island Eco-system. The somewhat surprising news about this release is the company that performed the modification, Oxitec, and the Cayman Islands’ Mosquito Research and Control Unit (MRCU) who released these mosquitoes over a year ago are only just now making this information public.

As we have already begun to witness disconcerting effects with GM crops being introduced into healthy Eco-systems, we have to also be concerned with what will ultimately happen with GM mosquitoes being released into equally healthy Eco-systems. Will there be cause for concern among humans? If we see mutations occurring on pests, fungus and insects that are exposed to the GM seeds, should we have reason to fear mutations that could occur on the mammal and human level when they are exposed to these mosquitoes?

Somewhat disturbing info that is definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Global warming is real--and it is harmful to our health.

After years of uncertainty, scientists now nearly universally agree on the link between global warming and the melting ice sheets, higher average temperatures, and prolonged drought. However, global warming’s effects reach beyond just warmer temperatures and more severe weather events; this phenomenon is having a profound impact on human health worldwide. As Howard Frumkin, director of the National Center for Environmental Health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), declared in his testimony before the United States Senate earlier this year, “CDC considers climate change [sic] a serious public health concern” (1). Global warming is perpetrating a crisis in human health worldwide.

In the last decade, medical scientists have identified numerous ways in which global warming has negatively impacted human health. For example, insects that have become more prevalent with new and warmer weather patterns spread viral and bacterial diseases to larger portions of the world’s population. Respiratory diseases and ailments worsen as smog and pollen increasingly pollute the air. Storms, heat waves, floods, and droughts cause physical damage to property and crops and kill both directly and indirectly. All together, these results of global warming have had dramatic and deleterious consequences for humans around the globe.

Climate change has had an especially remarkable impact on the expansion of viral microorganisms into areas where these pathogens had not previously survived. These diseases spread easily with the help of germ-transmitting animals and insects, particularly mosquitoes. “Climate change is affecting human health indirectly by encouraging the spread of pests and diseases,” says Paul Epstein, a scientist affiliated with Harvard Medical School (qtd. in Cooke 1). Historically, mosquito populations have concentrated around the equator; as average polar temperatures rise, however, they have been migrating farther north and south, carrying diseases along with them. Warmer weather also means mosquitoes can reach higher elevation as well as latitudes. Many tropical cities such as Nairobi, Kenya, were deliberately built on mountains at elevations above the temperature thresholds where mosquitoes could thrive. But as mountain ice melts and warmth creeps upwards, mosquitoes have been discovered at higher altitudes, infesting these cities and infecting the inhabitants. For example, one tropical illness, dengue fever, that had once been limited to elevations below 3,300 feet, has “recently appeared at 7,200 feet,” according to a study by the Natural Resources Defense Council (2).

Evolving seasonal patterns are also promoting the growth of mosquito populations as their breeding cycles lengthen. Milder winters with shorter and fewer periods of deep freeze permit some mosquitoes to survive in sewers, flooded basements, and other sources of still water. The females lay eggs in these warm, stagnant pools, breeding successfully in periods when they traditionally would die off. The larvae hatch during the dry springs that come earlier and long summers that last later into the year. As the breeding pools evaporate, the concentration of organic compounds nourishes the larvae and helps ensure their survival. Furthermore, the more intense heat kills predators such as lacewings and frogs while the unchecked mosquito population grows large, spreading disease like West Nile Virus into new regions (Epstein 56; Burke 91).

During the summer, viruses thrive in the warmth of the mosquitoes’ bodies. “At 68˚ Fahrenheit, the immature P. Falciparum [a malaria virus found in mosquitoes] takes 28 days to mature fully, but at 77˚ F, it takes only 13 days,” Epstein explains (52). As water sources dwindle during summer heat waves, birds and other animals crowd around remaining water sources, which also serve as mosquito breeding pools, to drink. The infected mosquitoes inject the virus into healthy birds and mammals, while uninfected mosquitoes feed on diseased birds and contract the virus. The mosquitoes then move on to infect humans. Downpours in August and September create new breeding sites for the mosquitoes, continuing the cycle.

Other diseases, both viral and bacterial, have become more widespread as well as humans become the victims of exploding populations of other disease-bearing insects and rodents who thrive in the new climates. Insects such as blackflies, sandflies, and cockroaches flourish with the warmer, wetter weather. While they may be merely nuisances, other insects are more dangerous. Ticks carry Lyme disease, and their territory has spread. Bees, wasps, and yellow jackets are also traveling farther north than their customary ranges. In Alaska, the number of severe stings reported is six times greater than the number of cases from just a decade ago (US News 2). For those who are allergic to wasp, bee, or yellow jacket stings, this is a serious health threat. Rats can transmit rabies and hantaviral disease, and they also serve as hosts to fleas that may carry the plague virus. As the rodents die, fleas seek other hosts, including humans (or their pets), potentially spreading deadly infections into these populations (Stenseth, 132).

Not only are new viruses a threat, old viruses are returning to life as well. Viruses that had been frozen and preserved within ice sheets such as glaciers and permafrost have begun reemerge and spread. An international team of researchers has discovered viral RNA in the ice in Russian Siberia along a major migratory pathway for waterfowl. If long-dormant viruses reappear, humans could experience the devastating consequence of exposure to pathogens, many of which are more than 50,000 years old, to which they no longer have immunity (Anitai 1).

Water-borne bacteria, such as E. coli, cholera, and salmonella, are also spreading. With global warming has contributed to increased episodes of flooding in numerous regions of the world that now experience torrential rain falls. These downpours wash existing pathogens through the soil and spread into rivers, sewers, and plumbing. Birds, animals, and humans drink the contaminated water and contract the diseases, and the water in which they swim or bathe becomes contaminated as well.

Climate change has also caused respiratory problems to proliferate in the human population. “Increasing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, a result of global warming, is boosting pollen rates and exacerbating allergy and asthma symptoms,” observes one Yale University study. The study concluded that, since spring arrives ten to fifteen days earlier than had previously been the norm, pollen is becoming more toxic and is worsening allergies and asthma (2). The percentage of United States residents diagnosed with asthma has risen from 3.6% in 1980 to 9% in 2005 (1). Ground-level smog also contributes to the worsening of these respiratory ailments. Cool breezes from the poles blow away some ground-level smog, but as changing temperatures affect wind patterns, these breezes diminish in intensity, limiting their ability to cleanse the air. Residual pollutants irritate the lungs and aggravate respiratory conditions.

While climate change has had indirect health consequences for global populations, it has also directly impacted human security with the physical devastation wrought by violent weather. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), “[e]xtreme weather events can be destructive to human health and well-being” (1). An article in U.S. News and World Report clarified the danger, explaining that “by 2050, a 1-foot rise in sea level is predicted, which could worsen flood damage by 36 to 58 percent” (2). Warmer temperatures at the poles are leading to excessive melting in the North Pole, the South Pole, and Greenland. If even one melts, Manhattan would be submerged under 150 feet of water, and lower areas like the Netherlands would be completely underwater. Many island nations around the world currently find themselves extremely vulnerable to inundation.

Floods are also caused by hurricanes, tropical storms, and typhoons that form offshore and are now becoming both more frequent and more violent with the change in climate. When a section of water is heated, it evaporates and rises. Wet, dense, and humid air quickly forms clouds that are then blown inland, gathering more precipitation and force on the way. Heavy storms also cause storm surges, or sudden rises in sea level that accompany large coastline storms. These floods could displace “about 200 million environmental refugees by 2050, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change” (Anthes 1).

“Perhaps the most obvious impact of global warming,” declares NOVA: Science in the News, “will be the direct effects: a warmer planet will experience more extreme heat waves.” Heatstroke and skin cancer, already a threat to the very young and very old, are on the rise. Additionally, longer periods of humid days are expected to become more frequent and more severe (US News 2). This will contribute to a growing incidence of severe cases of dehydration that will contribute to a number of indirect consequences of global warming, including a greater number of people suffering from kidney stones. The formation of kidney stones results in part from insufficient hydration, and global warming will exacerbate this effect. Researchers predict that by 2050, higher temperatures will cause an additional 1.6 to 2.2 million new cases annually, a near 30% growth in some areas. In the United States, the “kidney stone belt,” which includes southern states such as Florida, the Carolinas, and Arkansas, could extend up into Kentucky and northern California (Utah Southwestern 1).

Global warming has produced many surprising implications for human health as well. For example, climate change has resulted in a diminution of fruit crops. Though plants now have longer growing seasons, lack of water both from natural or human-made irrigation systems has driven down fruit production pushed prices higher. According to a US News and World Report study, “the value of crops produced in the Yakima River Valley—more than 6,000 square miles of orchards and farmland east of Seattle—may drop almost a quarter as temperatures rise over the coming decades” (2).

Poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac have become more potent as temperatures rise. “Poison ivy vines in CO2-rich areas grow 149 percent faster and produced a concentration of urushiol [the poison] that was 153 percent higher than vines grown in control plots,” concluded a study at Duke University. “The rampant growth bodes ill not only for human health but also for the health of forests, which some scientists believe are already suffering because of a proliferation of vines that rob slower-growing trees and woody plants of available light, nutrients and water” (1).

Not all health effects of global warming are physical, however. “Climate change could have a real impact on our psyches,” says Paul Epstein (qtd. in Anthes 1). After hurricane Katrina, the rates of serious mental illnesses—such as depression, anxiety disorder, panic disorder, PTSD, and a variety of phobias—more than doubled, rising from 6.1% to 11.3%. Rates of moderate and mild mental illnesses also doubled, increasing from 9.7% to 19.9% (Anthes 1).

Global warming affects every part of the world. Its health consequences are most severe for those who have limited access to medical care. Deadly viruses are becoming more widespread, killing thousands who cannot fight them; sudden droughts and floods destroy crops and leave vast areas devastated and growing numbers of people malnourished, dehydrated, and homeless. These hazardous health problems are creating a frightening new global phenomenon—a human-made natural disaster.

The wet season may be practically behind us but that doesn’t mean your woes are over.

It’s raining pains. It’s musty, mucky, malodorous,’ there’s wading in waterlogged roads, upturned umbrellas, footwear going missing. And more.

Your house has uninvited guests flies- despite all your precautions. It’s not for nothing that they are called house flies. Fly paper can catch some of them. But a craftily wielded fly swatter that works on batteries can frazzle the (and mosquitoes, too). Discourage the pests by fixing nets on all windows, maintaining a spotless kitchen, covering food, bagging and sealing garbage.

See a doctor if you have nausea, vomiting. Fainting, a drop in blood pressure, wheezing, difficulty in breathing.

A passing car has splashed your clothes with muddy water. Shake out the garment vigorously and allow any other residue mud patches to dry. Then use a stiff brush or vacuum cleaner nozzle to remove the worst of it. Wash as usual. Keep your clothes short ‘n’ simple. Bermudas, shorts or cropped pants for guys.’ Skirts, solid coloured leggings, or capris for girls. Smart rain goers carry a portable iron that fits into a bag.

You are drenched and your white undies show shamelessly. Cover yourself with somebody’s raincoat or dupatta- laughing all the way. Dry yourself with a hair dryer. In the future, wear skin toned or dark coloured undies – think green, purple, navy, indigo (white spells trouble)- in blended cottons and poly nylon, which can dry quickly and do not crush.

The elements have frizzed up your hair, and you have a dishy date, straight from office. Apply a bit of mousse or get and distribute evenly, straight on your wet hair. Don’t touch it. Just jet it air dry. A funky hair band or scarf can divert attention. To fight frightful monsoon frizzier comb your hair with a wide toothed comb before a shower to prevent tangles and knots. Don’t wash your hair too often- twice or thrice a week is enough. Only wash your scalp. Your hair will not get too dirty in this season. It’s the tousling that adds to the damage and tears cuticles (the outer layer of hair which is composed of overlapping cells that sit like scales on a fish) making it frizzier. Finger comb to detangle while still wet regular conditioner stay put for at least 5 minutes. Blast with cold water to close up the cuticles. Follow with an anti-frizz serum. Dry well so that you don’t leave any water behind. Try a conditioning banana mask. Mash a banana, add a dash of olive oil and smooth over your hair, let it sit for 15 minutes. Then shampoo off with lukewarm water. Go for weekly vitamin treatments. Sleep on a satin pillowcase to prevent the frizzies from forming. Cotton pillowcases tend to cause friction between the hair and the fabric, specially if you move around a lot in your sleep.

Facing the torrent has streaked up your makeup. Wipe clean with wet wipes or tissues. Dab with a powder puff to banish shine. Keep your skin cosmetic free as much as possible. Or invest in waterproof and oil-free eye make up, specially mascara, using as little is possible to prevent splotches and blotches.

To douse the rainy day blues you tuck into piping hot pakoras straight from the pan and burn your mouth. Apply an anesthetic gel (Gelora, Dentogent zytec) with a clean finger twice a day. The next time, wait before you bite.

A rain dance has left you sneezing ‘n’ sniffling Change your clothes at once and pop an aspirin or paracetamol. Gargle with a salt water solution of one tsp. of table salt in a glass of warm water. Drink plenty of water with a vitamin C 500 mg. tablet twice a day to repair the damaged lining of the respiratory passages. Hot soup, teas and grandma’s liquid remedies (with ginger, lime, honey brandy and such) can be soothing, too. Steam inhalations are helpful. Breathe boiling water from the spouit of a kettle with a towel over your head. Take care not to burn yourself. Unclog your nose with an OTC inhaler.

That glass of water from an udipi joint has hit your throat. Take an aspirin or ibuprofen to deaden the discomfort. Suck a medicated lozenge (Alex, trepsil) to numb raw nerve endings and scratchiness. Try steam inhalation. And gargling, specially if it hurts when you swallow. See your doctor if you experience severe, prolonged or recurrent sore throats, or it is accompanied by difficulty in breathing. Swallowing or opening of the mouth, joint pains, ear-ache or a lump in the throat, rash or a fever of about 101 “F, hoarseness that lasts for over a week.

Somebody’s briefcase has bashed up your thigh in a rainy day rush to office. Ice it to reduce pain and swelling with a cold pack, ice bag or pack or frozen peas for 15 minutes. Elevate the bruised area. See a doctor if the bruise is very large or swollen or if there is reduced sensation or difficulty moving the limb.

You’ve lost your balance and sprained your ankle on a slippery pavement. To reduce pain and swelling apply the RICE formula. R for rest I for an ice pace C for compression with an elastic bandage E for elevation

Your new rain shoes have triggered a blister. For starters you have to decide what to do with it. Smaller blisters that cause no discomfort have to be left alone. Just c lean the skin with soap and water. Cover with a sterile gauge and buffer the area with petroleum jelly. When you have a big blilster in a weight-bearing area or is likely to break on its own you have to drain it. .That way you can control when and how the blister is opended instead of leaving it to chance. First clean it and the surrounding area with eau de cologne. Sterilise pin on needle with alcohol and heat with a match until it glows red. Let it cool. Prick superficially where the blister is fluid filled. Drain with gentle pressure using a clean tissue. Keep the cap of the blister on – it helps protect tender internal skin while the wound heals. Apply an antiseptic lotion (Dettol) or cream. Then cover and protect it with a simple band aid or gauze pack while it heals. Paint the area around with tincture of benzoin. You may need to change the dressing often if your feet are sweaty or your feet get wet. Damp soles are most prone to blisters so make sure your footwear dry out between use. Never don wet shoes. Sprinkle powder in your shoes to keep them dry. If the blister shows signs of infection, see your doctor.

You take off your socks and shoes and people reel with horror. Wash feet twice a day with antiseptic soap and water to remove odourcausing bacteria and yeast. Follow up with eau de cologne. Dry shoes thoroughly, preferably under a fan. Stuff with wads of newspaper to hasten the proess. Use mycoderm dusting powder before you war them next. You can also spray with deodorant. Use thick cotton socks and change daily. Alternate your shoes. Rain shoes trap moisture and smell. Go bare foot at home when you can.

You’re scraped your skin while getting into a van or bus. Wash with soap and water and then hold under running water for five minutes to expel all dirt and grit. Then heart it. Open wounds are likely to heal faster if the area is heated slightly. The hypothesis is that heat dilates to blood vessels in the injury, which increases the blood flow and hence the influx of oxygen. In turn, oxygen seems to accelerate the production of collagen, a crucial element in the healing process. Use a hot water bottle or a warm moist towel sheathed in plastic for 15 to 20 minutes 4 to 6 times daily. Apply a band aid to keep healing substances in the body fluids from evaporating. Consider a tetanus shot if you haven’t had one for 10 years, 6 if the scrape is seriously contamintated by dirt. Watch carefully for infection.

There’s something peculiar happening between your toes. Whitish boggy areas on the webs of your last two toes, are the first signs of athlete foot, caused by fungi which thrive in warm, moist areas. This, if left unchecked, can result in scaling, itching, redness all over the soles with the toenails becoming blistering and crumbling. The important thing is to keep your feet dry apply an antifungal powder with clotrimazole (Surfaz) every morning and the same cream every night while it disappears. See a doctor if your skin cracks.

The rains make you ravenous. You pig olut on channa bhaturas and jalebis and feel podgy, sluggish and totally gross. Chew on a piece of ginger. Drink some antacid (Digene, Gelusil) – liquids are more effective than tablets to neutralize stomach acids. Try placing a cold cloth on your ear. This stimulates a branch of vagus nerve that runs through the digestive tract to relieve the bloat. Cross out hearts. ODing slows down your digestion, triggering bloating, biliousness, nausea, constipation. Extra blood goes straight to your gut. But don’t skip your next meal. Go light with a soup or some pasta and spinach.

Your pav bhaji and bhel are fighting back with the runs. Rainy day flies are carriers of diarrhea. Take 2 tablets of lopamide or lomotid for symptomatic relief. There is no need to take any more. Drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration, e,g. boiled water with salt, sugar and lime juice; teas colas. Take the probiotic econorm (available in sachets and in tablets) which produces lactose that kills harmful bacteria and improves digestion without side effects. Plenty curd also has the same effect. Don’t starve a runny tummy. The activity of the digestive enzyme is intact and strength. Have small frequent bland non fatty meals. Bananas contain kaolin which is a binder. A couple of apples will also do the trick. Notify your doctor if loose watery stools continue for more than 3 days, if there is blood or mucus in the stool, or if you also have a fever or vomit.

Somebody’s suffered an electric shock. Switch off the power sujply or separate the victim from the current using a clean dry non-conducting object such as a wooden stick, a thick roll or newspaper while you stand on dry ground warning shoes or chappals.

You’ve romanced in the rains and worry that a pregnancy is in the offing. Take an i-pill as quickly as possible to delay or stop ovulation. And the next time-be careful.

Most peoples first reaction, upon seeing an insect in their home or place of business, is to squish it, step on it, smack it with something, or in other words, kill it. A few people might actually think “eat it” and I would rather have people think that way, than to kill it for no other reason.

Insects represent a test to each of us. How much compassion do we have for something that has nothing to offer us? Perhaps we save the lady bug because it eats aphids, perhaps we save the dragonfly because not only do they eat mosquitoes, but are considered lucky. Very certainly we hit the wasp.

We tower above them, yet still find an odd pleasure in killing them. We tell big kids to “pick on somebody your own size” yet we step on ants.

Our lifespan is 80 years, more or less, yet we relish squishing something with a fraction of that. The worst thing a wasp can do to us, is to sting us, so we kill it in anticipation of something so simple as the threat of a sting. I have been stung many times, including once as a two year old when I was stung in the mouth after biting an apple with a wasp on it. Some time ago I realized the truth in that if you do not hurt them, they will not hurt you, and do not fear bugs really at all.

Now I practice a “Catch and Release” program at work and in my home. Basically if I am not going to eat the bug, and so far I haven’t taken to eating bugs intentionally, if we are not going to feed it to our Anole, or Chickens, the insect gets set free. At work a lot of insects, mostly grasshoppers and flies, get into the store. Flies are tricky, they move too much, but grasshoppers are an easy catch and I toss them out the door.

Occasionally a bee or wasp finds its way into the store, they usually buzz around the front window trying desperately to get out. Why should I not sympathize with them just as any other living creature stuck, confused, trying to get back to the wilderness? So, yes, I offer the bees and the wasps my finger to climb up on to.

Did you know that without bees, the human race might only last another four to five years? Did you know some wasps only live a few months? Never once have I been stung, most of the time the little insect rides my finger to the door where I release it back outside. Some times they resist, forcing me to use Rescue Plan B.

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lepidophora_lepidocera.jpg

Rescue Plan B involves getting a cup or glass and putting it over the little insect friend, then sliding paper underneath the opening, careful not to pinch any feet in the process. Then the paper can be held against the cup and used to trap the insect inside while taking it to the door for release.

We should have sympathy for other living things. This is not even about being vegan (I am not) its just about having compassion. Remembering that other things want to live just as bad as us. Sometimes more, after all, there are no EMO insects.

I think of it this way, myself as a human will do more harm to the world in one month of my existence than an insect will do in its entire life. This is indisputable. I will eat more plant matter than any grasshopper, I will cause the destruction of more trees than any pine beetle, I will eat more animals than any flea. I still want to live too though…. It can even be argued that I will do more damage to the world than an insect that spreads disease to people, after all, we cannot assume that the end all, be all of the planet, relies on humans existing, it does not.

We can be sympathetic to other living things, we just have to see that we are not the center of the world.

Living totally cruelty free is impossible, but every step helps.

http://socyberty.com/lifestyle-choices/cruelty-free-living/

Learn how to stay comfortable during these hot times.

To many people, summer is a wonderful time for going to the beach and vacations all around the world. To others like me, summer is that depressing time of sunburn, mosquitoes, odors, and more importantly, heat. Sometimes it is quite difficult to feel comfortable. So today, you are going to read a few tips on how to save energy during summer, enjoy your summer, and feel more comfortable during these hot times.

Read the Weather

The heat may be very unsafe if you go outside. Avoid going outside unless you are going inside a building when temperature reaches outrageous numbers.

Fans or Air Conditioners

Air Conditioners work way better than fans but it uses quite a bit of extra electricity. So, here is my tip. Use the A/C when the sun is bright out. During sunrise, sunset, and evening/night times, use a windows fan. Fans uses a lot less energy and sometimes it can get cooler than your average A/C.

Using the A/C a Lot Less

If you’re going to be in a room for a while, try saving your air conditioner a bit. Run it for about an hour, then turn it off, close the door, and turn on the ceiling fan.

Still Hot in the House?

Basements tend to be cooler than the top of the house. Try doing what you need to do at the lowest rooms of your house. Then you can use ceiling fans or simple desk fans.

The Greenhouse Car

Think about this. Have you ever entered your car and it was so hot that you sometimes can’t take it. Here are a few tips to avoid that. First, some cars have a vent windows or back windows that open slightly, leave those open (unless it rains) to allow some heat to be released. Also, open your windows by the slightest millimeter to allow a little more air. Not that far though, make sure your fingers can’t slide through or you will have the risk of a stolen car.

Computers

All computers will emit heat somehow. To help fix the issue follow the following tips: Use the computer is a nice cool room. Turn off your computer and use a public one. Clean the inside of the computer and removing dust to help it run slower. (Help on cleaning your PC can be found here-http://www.ehow.com/how_3664_clean-computers-insides.html)

During the Night

Keep your skin slightly warm, mosquitoes like slightly warmer skin. An alternative to this is to get a sheet of fabric softener sheets, add water, and apply to skin to repel insects.

Outside

Sometimes it is way cooler outside than inside. So, be sure to stick your head outside a bit to check the breeze.

You will learn the mistakes that have been made by others. You will learn how to avoid trouble and preserve your freedom and dignity.

Do you like to avoid pain? You can accomplish this by avoiding the mistakes that have been made by me and others.

Do not spend more than fifteen or twenty minutes in a public restroom. I spent about an hour in a fast-food restaurant restroom nearly fifteen years ago. A manager threatened to call the police.

If you eat out, leave the restaurant after you finish eating. One time I stayed at a fast-food restaurant watching the lobby television after I finished eating. The restaurant manager told me that I could not stick around after eating. The next time I ate there, he told me, “You are welcome to come in and order whatever you like, but if you sit down to eat, I will call the police and have you arrested for trespassing.”

I was evicted from a mall on a Sunday nine years ago. My intention was to buy a pair of gym shoes and leave to go to my school library. An unfortunate event resulted in a plan change. I lost my wallet and the ninety dollars that were in it as a result of the wallet slipping out of my shallow back pocket while I rode the bus to the mall. I decided to spend the whole day at the mall because I did not want to walk the long distance to school before walking all the way home. I was evicted for a day because I spent too much time in the restroom and too much time in the food court without eating. If you must spend hours at a mall, you should browse the mall or use most of the time to do something constructive such as reading or studying at the mall’s bus stop shelter.

Carry wallets and keys securely. If you decide to carry them on you, carry them in a deep back pocket or front pocket. I have lost wallets and keys by carrying them in a side pocket or shallow back pocket.

Do not carry all of your money inside your wallet or purse. Never carry your birth certificate, social security card, checks or money orders inside your wallet or purse.

You must move on when a friend dumps you or dies. At the beginning of my junior year in high school, someone who had been my friend since the seventh grade stopped wanting to be bothered with me. I spent too much time being miserable until I met new friends a few months later. I never heard the phrase that says, “Life goes on” until a few years after I graduated from high school.

Do not call anyone too much. At one point in high school, I made a telephone call to my friend every day before he threatened me.

Never attend a job interview without knowing something about the company. Visit the company’s website. Six years ago I was interviewed by a school district for a teaching assistant position. I was one of the five applicants being considered for two available spots. I thought it was not necessary to do research on a school district. One of the two interviewers asked me, “What do you know about us?” I sat there in silence and embarrassment. I am still looking for a steady job.

Do not walk a long distance to work, especially in hot weather. Eleven years ago, I walked all the way to my audiovisual assistant job during the summer months and arrived funky. One time while a fellow worker was training me to use the audio control room, I reached over him to press a button. He got a whiff of my underarm and said, “Please don’t reach over me.” He exited the room. Toward the end of the summer, the supervisor told me that one reason my annual contract was not being renewed was that I had not learned how to use the audio control room sufficiently.

Do not expose cassette tapes to sunlight. I left a tape containing recorded songs sitting near my bedroom window, leading to its demise.

If you attend a movie, do not sit in a row where others are talking. While I saw a movie, a lot of people sitting in a row in front of me talked. A lady came back with a police officer and said, “This entire row has been talking.” He ejected the entire row.

If you are a student who has been earning perfect grades, please do not panic if you get a lower grade. If you have a child who is distraught over something, please provide counseling and constant supervision for awhile. Several years ago, a girl who was accustomed to receiving perfect grades received a lower grade and hung herself with her ceiling fan.

If a mosquito bites you, brush it off before killing it. Several years ago, a girl squashed a mosquito where it bit her. The mosquito’s saliva went deeper into her blood, causing a fatal infection.

Do not throw anything at buildings. When I was sixteen, I threw a pebble at the wall of a school while walking on the parking lot. The principal asked me, “Are you trying to break something?” I replied, “No.” Her response was, “There has been vandalism around here. Please leave before I call the police.” She walked away. I stayed on the premises, not understanding that she was calling the police. The police came and let me go with a warning.

Do not discuss hate with children. Around twenty years ago, I played with a neighborhood girl at her house. I told her that the boy across the street hated me. Her father told me, “I don’t teach my daughter to hate anyone. You must leave.”

Make a trip to the site of a job interview before the day of the interview to make sure that you can find the place. A few years ago, I arrived to a few job interviews late because I had trouble finding the place.

Do not ask for directions to a restroom at an unfamiliar place. Three years ago, I asked an employee at an unfamiliar building where the men’s restroom was. He took me to a restroom that was behind a gate that he opened. Someone else who worked there ordered me to leave.

Bus riders should try to get to a bus stop at least six minutes before the scheduled arrival time because a bus will come up to five minutes early sometimes. Many bus drivers will not stop for you away from a bus stop. Some bus drivers will yell at you for lying down on a bus seat. Do not board a bus while someone is coming off.

Do not put wet clothes or bags on your bed. This can cause a rotten stench and make your mother furious.
