You are the choices you make in life and this real life story will teach you right.

This life is very funny, but I believe you reap it abundantly exactly out from what you sowed. When I read in gossip magazines that such class-act society wedding cum marriage has collapsed due to whatever reasons, I simply thumb my nose at the pretenders who believe they are high and mighty. The least thing they can do is not to wash their dirty and smelly garbage in the court of public domain. I always ask myself on a second thought why they could not live with their mess or make it a marriage of convenience still knowing that they married each other on the basis of what the groom and what the bride alongside their families will bring to the table. That is why when a rich man’s son goes out of his way to marry from a classless class, his family threatens all manner of orientations to cause their son to beat a retreat and leave the poor woman heartbroken. Mean snobs! The rich and powerful!

That reminds me of how it all started for me. It all started at the Orientation Camp of ‘Now Your Struggles Continue’. Poor me! I trained myself from secondary school to the Polytechnic and ended up a corps member at the Adamawa State NYSC Orientation Camp. Big deal for me! My poor parents who have only me and two other boys were beside themselves very happy with me. I read Secretarial Studies up to HND level. I was very determined to make my life and those of my family members quite comfortable. Therefore, I never lost my focus. I turned myself into a bookworm and read everything there was to read and came out with the best result ever from my Department at Federal Polytechnic Oko in Anambra State.

In my JSS 2 class, we were taught the tye and dye batik craftsmanship. I learnt fast and took it home to my mother. At the end of the day, we couldn’t raise the money to start this lucrative business. I let it pass but never lost my vision. In my JSS 3 first term holidays, I went to Nnewi to learn the art of plaiting and hair-weaving. Trust me, like in all things, I excelled and became a guru in less than four weeks the holidays lasted. My boss gave me five hundred naira note and I almost fainted. That was the first time I would be seeing such a large amount and note all in my hands.

When I got home to my village, I used my mother’s hair to showcase my talent. Within time, people were coming to our house to beg me to weave or plait their hair in such varied exotic styles. With the proceeds, my parents were able to pay my school fees and those of my two brothers. According to the story, in my SS1, I suffered from whitlow someone from our kindred remoted to me diabolically. It affected my right hand middle finger and my left hand thumb finger. I went through thin white pains in those days. My family business and source of income and stability in my house collapsed. My mother was yet to learn the art and my father who was into weaving baskets – from where I inherited my passion for excellence – was not expected to take my place to see that our family continued to eat three times instead of the once it used to be. There were palm kernels and garri to see us through.

Everybody in my family took to prayers. To be honest, my family never believed in God not to talk about this rave of the moment – born-againism. My mother as a matter of urgency invited our local priest to pray for me and I promised God that if he healed me, I would take attending church activities seriously. God did it and I honoured my promise by attending the weekly choir practices and robbing during church service on Sundays. Not only that, I became a member of the Girls Guide. My healing was almost instantaneous as I continued with my trade two weeks later. My trade saw me pay for my WAEC examination form. As you guessed correctly, I excelled. My father almost killed it for me by bringing one man old enough to be my father to become my husband. I refused and my mother and siblings supported me with superior reasoning. I couldn’t sit for JAMB examination because the cost of obtaining the form was out of our reach. From my little savings, I purchased the JAMBPOLY form instead and excelled once again. My eyes were set on the glory of seeing a poor village girl conquering the world of the boardroom gurus.

At the Oko Poly as Fedpoly Oko is fondly called, my business flourished as I had more people coming to me. With the benefit of foresight, I set up a saloon. Did I tell you I did go for the training too after my secondary school WAEC and JAMBPOLY examinations? The proceeds from my saloon helped me see my brothers through primary and secondary schools. The time my immediate younger brother came to join me as a student too, he had acquired the skills of shaving. I bought him two shaving machines and expanded my saloon. My youngest brother joined me in the last year of my HND programme and luckily for me, he accepted to learn all that I know about my trade. Fortunately, women and students started preferring him as they became more comfortable with a handsome man touching their heads. It allowed me the room and time to read my books for the final examination. At the end, my result was the overall best in the school aside the record it set in my department.

On getting to the Orientation Camp, I realized that girls were going to the Mammy Market to get their hair done. I quickly sold my expertise to one of the saloon owners and we agreed on terms of engagement. I continued making my cool money. In a flash, the less than one month orientation blew in my face. It was the Camp fire Night. One of my good male friends came out with his stereo and was playing some cool music and before I knew it, I lost my shyness.

‘After all,’ I said to myself, ‘this is my last night here. Let me loosen up and have some fun.’

Another girl joined me and I noticed she was having a bottle of soft drink in her hand and I realized immediately I was tasty and in need of quenching my taste. It was just the two of us among over seven guys dancing too. But something kept me rooted to my spot as I wiggled my wickedly seductive hips to the music. Guys were hailing and clapping for me while I danced away my years of staying long in the boot-camp of suffering and shying away from men. I soaked it all inside of me.

Next thing I did even against my usual sense of self-guard was to excuse the other girl for a sip from her bottle of soft drink. Without even waiting to sniff the drink, I threw my head back and guzzled a large quantity before the bite of the alcohol in the drink stung my bowels. Within time, I realized my head was beginning to swoon. A dashing handsome guy came to me and weaved his hand through my hips and led me out of the dance.

In the morning, I woke up in the arms of the guy who led me away from the fun of the previous night. He was having some tears in his eyes. When I realized I was naked and a bit wet-sticky down there, I raised an alarm. He held me tight and clasped his right palm across my mouth.

“I’m so sorry love. I didn’t know you were still a virgin. I promise you, I’ll marry you if you simply accept me.”

I pushed him out of my way as I quickly put on my clothes to go prepare for the passing-out parade. A month later, I missed my period and my heart became foggy with worries. I quickly obtained permission to travel from my boss at my place of primary assignment which happened to be the headquarters of one of the local government areas. My doctor at Nnewi confirmed my pregnancy. My father again came up with the idea of marrying me off to that same man to cover the shame as it is with the tradition. I refused and ran back to Adamawa where I started a search for my Adam. When I eventually found him, he was overjoyed and took me to his parents who happened to be very important people in Adamawa politics. They outrightly refused me marrying their son after asking me a barrage of questions which confirmed to them that I came from nowhere and not to talk of my parents amounting to sub-human beings. The mother accepted the fact that I’m quite beautiful but that is where it ended for me as I did not have even the prerequisite level of education that would rival their son’s whom they sent to the UK for both his first degree and second in International Politics and Diplomacy. They promised to help me finish my service year in seclusion but I must promise them not to reveal the identity of my son’s father as they would have me killed if I unearthed such humungous secret. I obliged them and they made my life very comfortable. As soon as the service year was over, I took up my discharge certificate and ran down to Lagos.

My body after my pregnancy has filled up well and I look much improved. Lagos guys no go kill me! I started partying hard as I was having about ten million naira with which I was settled by my son’s father’s family in Adamawa. Men became me as I became their play thing. The father of my son would sneak into Lagos from time to time to share some forbidden fruits with me and monitor the growth of his son whom he would never inherit. Before I realized it, I started dating only the very bad guys that Lagos social circuit could provide. Cocaine, hard alcoholic beverages, and sex became my life. Only terminally bad guys who can afford my bills would see my face. My name became the news and gossip for Lagosians as I still mask my evil life with my innocent good looks as I break one marriage after another and still not accepting to settle down at twenty-eight. The money I made from my bad boys, I used to buy a plot of land at Lekki and got four of them unknown to each other to put up a befitting palace there.

I was in my tea room one fateful morning lounging on the settee when my house boy brought in my favourite gossip magazine and what did I see on the cover page? My Adam’s marriage to a Sokoto princess has collapsed. I gave out a hearty laugh that caught the attention of my son. Just last week, my Adam came to my palace and asked me to accept to marry him again; I almost wanted to slap his devilishly handsome face. But when he suggested we would run away to some exotic Island in the Bahamas, I saw the ring of bad life and fun I would live there. I told him to holla at me in two months’ time so I could think about it while I milk him the more. Bad boys noni!

This is a motivational write-up to get to your inner recess and change your life for good. It is adapted from Naija Peeps Magazine.

By Ugo Okeke

Doubt and fear are the reasons why you are yet to be motivated enough to make things happen for you. It is said that fear means false evidence appearing real. Now I believe you have come to realization of my drive? An anonymous figure made this assertion; “If fear is staring you in the face, close your eyes so you don’t have to look at it.”

Nothing works without you seeing the vision appearing real. The interpretation of every dream would first come to you immediately after the vision has dawned on you. But for your vision to be made known to you, you must eschew every fear and doubt in your mind. You will have to be positive minded and prayerful too. To be motivated in life on anything, you must have had your mind dwelling on the picture of your vision, that is why it is said that we must always activate our mind’s camera and use it to snap as many pictures/photographs of your vision so that when it is time for the delivery of interpretation of your dream, you must have armed yourself with the perfect picture of the vision.

Always have it at the back of your mind that there is no vision that lacks its interpretation. When God gives you food, he will not only give you water to flush the food down, but also water to wash your hands clean for the next meal(s).

Another reason you are yet to be properly motivated for greater impact on humanity is because you believed money to be everything. The Inspired great Book says ‘money is the root of all evil’, it equally admonishes us to ‘ask, knock and search’ as we can achieve everything through Christ who strengthens us’. Therefore, quit believing that money has everything to do with the transformation of your life. It has a limit to what it can achieve for you but your mind has all the capacity to transform you into greatness. It is in your mind that when inspiration comes, it dwells there for some time to see if you would be motivated enough to take action that would interpret your vision and turn it into realizable dream. We all dream dreams but some dreams that have not the foundation called vision will always fizzle to nothingness. There are no two ways about that.

Your mind is an open cheque; whatever you pen on it, becomes how much you will realize from taking charge and authority over a vision granted you. When you have a vision about your life and/or humanity, do everything humanly and spiritually possible to work it into concrete reality. It is not everybody that has had the blessing of a vision. When you are granted one, do not kill it with doubt and fear. God does not appreciate that and would definitely handle your poor handling of His transaction like it is enumerated in the Bible in the Parable of Good Servants and Bad One in the usage of individual talent(s) given them by their Master.

Everything counts in life on your march to perfect motivation, and getting to be motivated in life has its processes and stages which you must pass through before you excel. On this premise, your level of maturity which means: wisdom, patience, tenacity, purposefulness, dedication, and will and more would be considered before your vision would be considered good enough for its interpretation to be made known to you.

Another thing that would make you develop lukewarm attitude to being properly motivated in life is bad life. Hard/bad living has become the refuge for most Nigerians because of the slide we are witnesses to in the areas of our national economic life. When you are not yet standing on that Foundation, you must not start living big like you have arrived when in actual fact, you are behaving like the bad servant who went to hide the only talent given him out of jealousy and sheer foolishness. He was made to smell a whiff of a successful life, and next thing, he went on a binge on hard living and within time, he ended up like the Prodigal Son. When you start seeing the positive outcome of your vision and its interpretation, do not let it get to your head. Do not start living large as the people God used in interpreting your vision would be watching and when they notice you have gone off-rail, would remove themselves from you and not too long, you will not see God’s face again until you went back to the end of the queue to begin again. Your degree should not read Begin Again but SUCCESS in this regard. Only when you have failed will you aspire for BA. You know what it took you to get to where you were and therefore, you must not joke with yourself as the shock of beginning afresh can send you to the world beyond.

Did I make mention of it? You should not keep friends in your life who have nothing to contribute to your growth. The only people you need are the ones who would impart positively on you. These people may not necessarily be as rich as you envisioned for yourself. People who have native intelligence and wisdom or the experience that would improve and transform you into greatness as a matter of common sense must be fraternized with.

On your road to success, you must use your inner strength to open doors for you. This inner strength which is your will power comes in what you wish for yourself and what your tongue says you would become. These two are powered by faith and prayers.

Now you are properly pushed to believe in yourself. Go out and make exploits believing that you now have what it takes to be motivated enough to make an impact in your time on your generation. I believe you had for yourself nostalgic Valentine’s Day celebrations!

Discover what Christmas-in-July has to offer from an inspirational and transformational perspective.

Christmas-in-July offers us a wonderful chance to rekindle inspirational and transformational insights from the traditional December Christmas time. Without all the pressure to shop, entertain family and friends and attend an array of celebrations, it offers an opportunity to go deeper and experience an inner Christmas. A rebirthing of our consciousness, through reflections on inspirational insights from the holiday that can powerfully transform our lives.

Giving is one of many powerful insights from Christmas. Let’s reflect on three ways to give this Christmas-in-July:

1. Think about how you can improve on giving to others. We know that the happiest people on the planet are the people who give to others unconditionally with the expectation of nothing in return. So if you want to increase your happiness as well as others, increase your giving! One of the most potent ways to give, is to give of your time. Start by giving time to the most important people around you. Time can be given powerfully by simply allocating time to be with and listen to your spouse, child or friend without interruption. If you diarize time you won’t feel flustered with lines of attention being drawn to other things you need to get done. It will help you to be fully present and the one you are with to feel happy or content because you truly are ‘fully’ present.

2. Another powerful way to give is to spend a day giving your total attention to others. Do this once a week. Don’t talk about yourself whatsoever for a whole day. Don’t give any opinions or add your story to anything said. Always acknowledge the other person after they have finished speaking. Honour them by saying back to them pertinent points to show you have listened and ask them to expand more on the subject or ask them questions to get them to continue speaking. If they ask you a question and it can be a simple yes or no that’s ok but don’t add your ‘stuff’ your story and move onto a question back to them. And remember to be fully present by listening with positive body language and good eye contact too. You’ll soon find that most people are not really interested in your story, they are more interested in themselves and what they have to say. They will walk away from you feeling great and will think you are a wonderful person, simply because you gave them space to be truly heard.

3. Give acknowledgement to the ones you love. Acknowledgement is craved by most people. Without acknowledgement many will tend to retract and will not give again as they feel unappreciated. For example, you go out of your way to do more than what was expected at work and your boss doesn’t acknowledge you. Do you feel inspired to do more next time? Probably not. Your partner spent time making you a meal. Do you take it for granted or do you acknowledge them with love for their time and care preparing the meal for you? Every time you don’t acknowledge someone for what they have done or given to you, and you take it for granted, you erase a little of their love or respect for you. Another example, your child puts his/her dishes in the sink – acknowledge them with positive comments. When you acknowledge the small things, it can create a snowball effect of more good behaviour. It won’t happen overnight but it will happen. This practice can powerfully transform relationships. It is a gift to increase happiness for you and others around you.

This Christmas-in-July spend some quiet time thinking about and planning ways that you can give. By giving of your time and your acknowledgment, you expand and create a more generous loving heart while creating more happiness in the world for you and others.

Time and Space can be elucidated with an example of passage and passenger.

The passage is Time and the passenger; Space. Although the passenger remains engrossed in him, that is, his involvement remains confined to his personal situations and circumstances concerning him, he can’t maintain his existence without his association with the passage.

He could be oblivious of the passage but it is impossible that he could dissociate himself from the passage. It is worth considering that there is no possibility of even a slightest gap between the two.

Passenger is the product of the passage; means that he is because of the passage.

All the movements and activities, all the styles of life, all the thinking approaches, and the total character of the passenger can’t exceed the limits of the passage. He is restricted by the values and the standards of the passage and is bound to follow the rules of the passage. In human life, the passage is the Unconscious, and the conscious is the passenger.

We can identify the Unconscious by means of Conscious. When a person remains engrossed in the Conscious for most of his time then eventually his attention for the Unconscious would be at the lowest, which leaves the lesser room for the functional activities of life, and still lesser values of the life to be practiced.

More consciousness is evidently a proof of the more active Conscious, this minuses the magnitude of the action and the practical work.

When man exercises thinking continuously, the period for the activation of the Unconscious is reduced to the minimum, and this is the only period which is the period of action because it is free from deliberation and thinking.

Therefore, it is the law that more time will be given to the Unconscious to remain active the more will life advance on the paths of the action.

In fact, the Unconscious is that side of the Movement of the Aura (spiritual body) that constructs the Spatialities of the life, that is, the deeds and actions of life.

Our world is crowded with the million secrets to success. Well I am here to say that there is no secret, it's right there in front of you.

How often do we say the infamous words, “I want to be successful”? It’s interesting, when you ask a child the question of “what do you want to do when you grow up? You get a straight out answer. An astronaut, a fire fighter, a hairdresser, a race car driver… you never get, I want to be successful. Somewhere along the line we lose the creativity of our younger selves and throw our future dreams and visions into the too hard define basket, labelled “Successful”. Then we seem to wander on this path with no guidance or end in sight searching for the holy secret. So what is success? What does it look like? What does it feel like, does it have a smell? A touch? A taste?… Many of us think it is plain silly to think success can have a smell. However, when you think about it, a successful baker would know the smell of a perfectly baked loaf of bread just like a successful florist would know the smell of a perfectly ripened flower. So it’s fair to say that this so called “success” does take the form of many meanings, appearances, tastes, smells and so on, you get the point. The BIG question is though, is there a secret to success?

After reading the books, studying the video’s, meeting the people and endless searching down that very hazy path, it has become clear that there isn’t one. That’s right… there is NO secret to success. Without disappointing all the people out there furiously hunting, do not fear. There may be no secret but there is a formula. After studying, meeting and listening to the likes of Richard Branson, Steve Jobs, Tony Robbins, Robert Kyiosaki, and even the ruthless Donald Trump who have all achieved their own version of success and voiced their stories for us to hear, it has become so clear. When they share their stories and the strategies they believe to be responsible for their own success, they are all saying the exact same things, just in their own language. You have Tony Robbins who talks about the importance of your Strategy and your Peak State. Robert Kyiosaki believes in the power of the wealth creation matrix, which is all about structure making choices. The late Steve Jobs kept it simple with his aim for the stars philosophy which as changed the very world we live in. And we can’t forget Richard Branson’s who’s “screw it, lets do it” attitude and a sense of fun and passion has taken Virgin to over 400 companies of which at least 7 have become Billion dollar successes.

So when you combine all of these strategies, philosophies and key characteristics, you get a flow of elements for success, your very own formula for success, which looks like this:

Know Your Story & What You Believe

We all have different paths, experiences, goals and visions and we all have ways of expressing these. Knowing your story is all about creating clarity around what it is that you stand for. In the relatively short period of time you have on the planet, what is it that you want to:

- Focus your energy and attention on

- Create your core values around: Richard Branson’s core values are to experience new things, create new opportunities, break the barriers of impossible and have fun doing it.

- Be known and remembered for after you are gone: Steve Jobs stated he wanted to put a dent in the universe through challenging the status quo. He will be long remembered for creating and inspiring a revolution in consumer technology.

Actor Will Smith summed it up nicely in an interview some years ago when he said “its easy, it’s knowing what you believe in to the core and knowing that you are will to die for that belief!” This may be considered a little extreme but it’s the passion that burns within.

So what is your story? You need to identify:

- What you stand for and believe in

- What you will die for to achieve

- What your core values are that you live by and will vow never to break

- What your world looks like around the future you

Create Your Map

Just as when you are off in your car for a road trip to an exotic location you haven’t visited before, you need a map to get there. Your map needs to include some key things:

Goals

Your goals are a descriptive measure of what you aim to achieve. Your goals should follow the SMART principle, which means they need to be

Specific in definition

Measurable in size, time, $

Attainable but still audaciousness

Realistic as to the effort you need to put in to achieve the goals

Timely completion target wrapped around every goal set.

Checkpoints & Look-outs

When you go on a roadtrip, you need to ensure you have checkpoints on your map where you can stop, take a minute to rest and reflect on where you have just come from. This is no different with setting your goals map, you need to incorporate checkpoints where you re-evaluate your position and your goals set and also reflect on what you have achieved along the way.

Rewards

You mustn’t forget to reward yourself for making progress along the way. Often, we set ourselves huge goals and never really see any reward until the goal is achieved or worse, not at all because the hope and motivation is lost to achieve it. Progress rewards are critical and should be mapped. Don’t feel guilty for rewarding yourself early, you will get to the big reward through your dedication and hard work soon enough.

Taking Action

You can be as smart as Bill Gates, as enthusiastic as Richard Branson, as cunning as Donald Trump or as inspiring as Steve Jobs BUT until you take ACTION on your goals and your map, you will not go anywhere. Action is driven by emotion which is energy in motion. The more positive energy you exert on actioning your goals, the more motion FORWARD you will achieve. You can make the decision to set goals and create your story but you will never achieve your success without the action.

Accountability

So many people create their stories, map their goals and then begin to take action but then something happens and the flame dies. Time goes on, road blocks appear, too many opportunities/distractions arise and the motive to action dies.

You need to hold yourself accountable to someone or something other than yourself. This person/s needs to be someone who is willing to energise you, motivate you and be stern with you when the time calls for it. Someone who could fall into this category is a mentor. However a mentor should be more about providing guidance, knowledge and passing down lessons they have learned from their own experience. It is important that you distinguish with your mentor whether they are happy to take on the role of keeping you accountable, otherwise keep this relationship separate. Be sure to give back as much as you receive with your accountability partner as they are more than likely looking to you to keep them accountable to their own goals just the same.

Know who your Community is

There is a great guy by the name of Seth Godin who has done quite a few talks on TED.com and he emphasizes the need and importance of creating and belonging to Communities. Communities in Simon Sinek’s eyes is a group of like minded people with a set of common values and beliefs. So, on the path to success it is important to be mindful of who your community is. Who are the people you are hanging around, surrounding yourself with? We all know that we have some people around us are energy suckers and haven’t a positive bone in their body. The question you need to ask is, do these people care about me and are they providing benefit and value to what I am all about? do they believe what I believe? Find your Community and surround yourself with people who believe what you believe.

Just go out and do it!

If you follow these elements, you will undoubtedly achieve your version of success. What does this look like? Only you will know. Will it change along the way? Probably, however if you have fulfilled each of the Success Elements, it shouldn’t deviate too far at all. You are the creator of your own success, just you. It is your choice, but the path is there to follow and it is clear enough and strong enough to lead you to wherever it is you want to end up. So, screw it, just go and do it!

This article looks at the differences between motivation and manipulation as a management style.

Motivation and manipulation may sound similar, but they have very little in common in the workplace. Motivation is a very desirable trait in employees and beneficial to future career advancement. Many people use manipulation disguised as an attempt to motivate to get what they want for themselves. In practice, the differences between motivation and manipulation can be subtle but significant.

Motivation has a desire to bring improvement as its basis.

While motivated employees may be good for business, that same motivation is also good for them. Motivated people have a better outlook and tend to be more energetic on the job. When employers find ways to motivate employees, they are doing both themselves and the employee a favor.

Manipulation tends to be self-serving and does not actually regard the feelings or desires of those being motivated.

Manipulation is a way for one person to get someone else to do something that is wanted or needed without the second person receiving anything significant in return. This method of getting others to do something usually results in a loss of true motivation. When people realize that they have been manipulated, it is normal for them to feel used or even abused because of it.

Try to determine if you are motivating or manipulating.

One simple way to avoid becoming a manipulator is to determine why you are asking a person or group to accomplish a task. If it is to get you out of doing it or to get something for free, there is a good chance that you will be using manipulation to get the job done. Examine the outcome of the process. Is it highly likely that the person who does the work will feel good about the job or receive some personal benefit from it? If this is not the case, you can assume that at least part of the process is more manipulation than motivation.

Motivation will generally lead to bigger and more enduring outcomes.

When motivation is used to achieve a goal, everyone will walk away feeling a sense of completion or accomplishment. Like physical exercise, motivation will have an effect that carries forward after the task at hand is completed. A person who has been motivated to do it once will often be eager to do it again. Even more significant is the fact that motivation in one area will usually pour over into the other endeavors that the person does. He or she will not only be improved as an employee but also as a person.

As leaders and managers, people must be careful to use motivation and not manipulation.

In order to get the best results from workers, you need them to want to work for you not just to do their job. Managers who motivate employees receive satisfaction from watching those employees grow and not just produce. Learn to celebrate the accomplishments of those that you lead. This motivates them to press to perform more and better quality tasks.

Motives are often interpreted in terms of encouragement. Urge or force is the soul and body to do. So the motive is a driving force that moves people to act, behavior, and in the actions that have a specific purpose. Any action taken by humans always start with the motivation (intention). According to Wexley & Yukl (in As’ad, 1987) motivation is the provision or elicitation of motive, it can also be interpreted to be the motive or circumstances. Meanwhile, according to Mitchell (in Winardi, 2002) motivation represents psychological processes, which rise, diarahkanya, and the persistence of volunteer activities (voluntary) which are directed to a specific destination.

Meanwhile, according to Gray (in Winardi, 2002) motivation is a process, which is internal, or external to an individual, giving rise to enthusiasm and persistence, in terms of performing certain activities.

Morgan (in Soemanto, 1987) suggested that motivation is related to three things which constitute aspects of motivation. These three things are: a state that drives behavior (Motivating states), behavior that is encouraged by the state (motivated behavior), and the purpose of the behavior of the (goals or ends of Such behavior). McDonald (in Soemanto, 1987) defines motivation as a force of change in a person who is characterized by the effective encouragement and reactions to reach the goal. Motivation is a complex problem in the organization, because the needs and desires of each member organization is different from one another. This is different for each member of an organization is unique biologically and psychologically, and developed on the basis of different learning processes (Suprihanto et al, 2003).

Soemanto (1987) generally defines motivation as a force of change characterized by the effective encouragement and reactions to the achievement of goals. Because human behavior is always objective, we can conclude that the change of power that gives strength to the behavior of the purpose, has been going on in a person.

From the description above it can be concluded that the motivation is the active energy that causes a change in someone who appears on psychiatric symptoms, feelings, and emotions, thus encouraging individuals to act or do anything due to the goals, needs, or desires to be satisfied.

One’s motivation is influenced by two factors, namely:

a. Internal factors: factors that originate from within the individual, consists of:

Individual’s perception of themselves; someone motivated to do something or not depends a lot on the cognitive processes of perception. One’s perception of himself will encourage and guide the behavior of a person to act;

Self-esteem and achievement of these factors encourage or direct inidvidu (motivated) to strive to become an independent person, strong, and gain freedom and get a certain status in society; and to encourage individuals to excel;

Hope; the expectations of the future. Hope this is the objective of environmental information that affects a person’s subjective attitudes and feelings. Expectations is the goal of behavior.

Needs; humans are motivated by the need to make himself a fully-functional, so it can reach its potential is total. The need to encourage and direct a person to seek or avoid, redirect and respond to the pressure they experienced.

Job satisfaction; rather an affective impulse that appears within the individual to achieve the desired goal or purpose of a behavior.

b. External factors: factors that originate from outside the individual, consists of:

The type and nature of work; drive to work on a specific type and nature of work in accordance with the object of work available will direct the individual to determine the attitudes or employment options that will be occupied. This condition can also be dipengartuhi by the extent to which exchange value owned by the object of work in question;

The working group where the individual joins; working groups or organizations where individuals can join encourage or direct the behavior of individuals in achieving a specific behavioral objectives; the role of these groups or organizations can help individuals get the need for the values of truth, honesty, virtue, and can provide a sense for individuals in connection with his work in social life.

Environmental situation in general; individuals are encouraged to get in touch with the sense of inability to effectively interact with their environment;

Remuneration system; reward is a characteristic or quality of the objects of gratification needed by someone who can influence the motivation or behavior can change direction from one object to another object that has a value greater rewards. Reward system to encourage individuals to behave in achieving the objectives; behavior is seen as a goal, so that when the goal is reached then there will be rewards.

Motivation is a power relationship is found in human beings, causing, directing, and organizing behavior (behavior). This behavior arises because of the encouragement of internal factors and external factors. Behavior is seen as a reaction or response to a stimulus.

Woodhworth (in Petri, 1981) * revealed that the behavior is due to the motivation or the drive (drive) that lead individuals to act in accordance with the interests or goals to be achieved. Because without the encouragement was not going to have a force that directs individuals to the onset of behavioral mechanisms. Encouragement is activated by the need (need), in the sense of generating needs a boost, and this urge ultimately enable or display behavioral mechanisms.

Further explained that the motivation as the cause of the emergence of the concept of behavior according to Woodworth has 3 (three) characteristics, namely:

Intensity related to weak and strong encouragement that individuals behave in a certain cause;

Direction givers; directing individuals to avoid or perform a certain behavior;

The persistence or the tendency to continually repeat the behavior.

In other words, if all three are weak, then the motivation will not be able to cause the behavior.

Another view put forward by Hull (in As’ad, 1995) * which asserts that behavior is influenced by motivation or encouragement by holding interest fulfillment or satisfaction of needs that exist in individuals. Further explained that this behavior does not arise solely because of the encouragement that started from the needs of individuals, but also because of the factors studied. Boost factor is conceptualized as a collection of energy that can activate behavior or as a motivational factor, where the incidence of behavior according to Hull is a function of three things: the strength of the impetus is on the individual; habit acquired from the study; as well as the interaction between the two.

Based on the above, both concepts put forward Woodhworth and Hull explained that the motivation is closely related to behavior. Motivation is a construct that starts from the need or the needs of the individual self in an active form of energy that causes the drive with a certain intensity for activating, give directions, and make persistent (repeatedly) from a behavior to meet the needs of the causes of impulse itself. Well, for you are Mario fan or love to read the words of motivation, make sure that certain things should be fulfilled in order to change behavior that you expect to be a real

The motivation or drive - an internal condition, which may change over time, which orients a person to set specific goals (eg, hunger, thirst, sex, curiosity) ..

DRIVE:

The motivation or drive – an internal condition, which may change over time, which orients a person to set specific goals (eg, hunger, thirst, sex, curiosity) ..

Neal edger MILLER:

Neal E. Miller was born in Wisconsin on August 3, 1909.He received his BS from the University of Washington (1931), MS from Stanford University (1932), Ph.D. Bachelor of Psychology from Yale University (1935) also taught at Cornell university medical college during the 1970s ..

lHis productive career involved landmark study of various psychological problems.

lTogether with John Dollard, he combined with psychoanalytic theories of behaviorism, trying to explain the scientific ideas of Freud’s inner drives that motivate and influence human behavior.

lMiller is one of the student L. Clark Hull. His early work (Dollard and Miller 1950), attempted to apply Hullian analysis of behavioral problems derived from psychoanalytic literature.Contribution to begin with research on the psychology of fear as a learned drive.

Then he turned to study the brain mechanisms of motivation

For example, eating can be caused by electrical stimulation of the brain in mice was discovered by EE Coons in the Miller laboratory.

Later, he focused on behavioral medicine, biofeedback particular, are now widely used in various medical conditions including high blood pressure, epilepsy, and migraine.

lin, 1961, when Neal Miller first suggested that the autonomic nervous system can be just as susceptible to training as voluntary nervous system, that people can learn to control heart rate and bowel contractions just as they learn to walk or play tennis. He is a respected researcher, laboratory director at Yale, but this is the kind of scientific work. Everyone knows’ that the autonomic nervous system is precisely that: automatic, beyond our control.

lMiller finally able to prove his point, and biofeedback to be gradually accepted in scientific circles as a method to help treat high blood pressure, migraine, and other medical conditions.

lThe Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research established the Neal E. Miller New Investigator Award in his honor, and the American Psychological Association form a distinguished lecturer on his behalf.

Experiment:

At the time it cleared the SR (stimulus-response) is not enough.

For example, when rats were fed, their activity goes up.

It shows the rat must have been responding to some internal influence.

Both became clear that the strengthening effect is important, as well as the events that preceded it.

If the hungry rats ran the correct route through the maze and rewarded with food for doing so, they will learn the maze.

These considerations led researchers to consider the drive as a motivating factor. Hunger, thirst or sexual deprivation drive, pain or shock als producces drive ..

lBut then other problems arise.

lPeople often do things when there is no biological drive for example to motivate them to write books, compose music or a more complex motif in the workplace.

welding miller said:

“People are not born with a tendency to strive for money, for the discovery of scientific truth, or to a symbol of social status and security. Motive is to learn …. A drive to learn is one that can be obtained by previous cues are not effective as a result of learning. So , if a child who ha s previously not afraid of dogs learn to fear them after being bitten, it shows that fear is learned. “

Stimulus (the dog) came to get a response (fear) that did not receive a response.

Fear of being called to learn because it can be studied as a response to previously neutral cues; it is called hard because it can motivate learning and performance of new responses in the same way as hunger, thirst or other drive.

Miller set out to demonstrate experimentally that the fear was in fact have this property.

The procedure is as follows:

Rats were tested in a box has two compartments one painted black and one white.

Separated by a door that rats can run … White checkered floor in the compartment comprises a metal rod in which the electric light can shake a mouse at first pass to the feet were allowed to explore preferences for compartment. Then freely. No officers were taught to fear the white compartment of each rat. placed in the compartment, the surprise turned on.

Rats were allowed to escape shock through the door into the dark compartment safely 10 mice for each experiment conducted.

Now the shock is turned off

They are placed in a compartment harmful but they quickly ran to the safe compartment.Rat motivated by fear of the place, produced by the ever surprised there before. Now in the next phase of the experiment the small wheel mounted on the wall and the mice have to open the door by turning the wheel.

When do the first, the mice showed symptoms of fear behaviors such as tense, crouched and random movement. Drive fear has gained functionality, such as hunger does not generate energy.

Finally, the mouse will turn the wheels by accident, the door opened and the rat escaped to the safe compartment.

As a final check, wheel lever is made inoperative and remain there to open the door
