This paper discusses the new technologies of word processors, Ipads, etc. that have crept up on younger generations, and how this has changed literature and writing for the youth.

            Literature and writing for several centuries have remained consistent to pen and paper. That is something that the future will eventually make obsolete. Recorded records will become artifacts in museums, while still being readily available via scanned images. Technology as it evolves more and more everyday things are becoming more dependent on technology. The heartbreaking fact of technology replacing the written texts and print is that teachers are not doing away with the common methods and teaching methods are becoming all computerized. Technology is now being used via computers, ipads, and even cell phones.

            Computers began slowly but eventually became an economical and useful tool that is used in nearly everyone’s homes today. Computers began in the classrooms as being a replacement for typewriters. Keyboarding was not much of a difference when comparing the two; however, the word processing tools are most beneficial for school use. Not only useful for students the word processing has become a useful tool for nearly every occupation. Word processing technology is not only a place to type papers, information, etc, but they also correct grammar and spelling while making editing effortless. While word processors make things seem effortless, the children are not being forced to correct their papers for grammar errors and spelling, computers do it for them what is the point. This is the attitude of most students, this is one way that students and people are becoming too dependent on technology and are no longer having to look anything up themselves in dictionaries and grammar handbooks. This technology is also useful for duplication and documentation. Once something is typed into a word processor the document can be printed multiple times, and the saved copies are proof of documentation that can be used in keeping important records.

             Word processors began being used during class rooms for reports, and now has become common for teachers to use, and then later came the technology of projectors and screens to relay information. All of these methods have taken the place of hand writing; student’s writing papers, and teachers using chalk and a blackboard, or dry erase boards are now even becoming obsolete as everyone relies on technology. The benefit of this is that illegible hand writing from teachers and students alike are no longer a problem. However, the hand writing has become something that is no longer practiced for delicacy and legibility, it has fell by the wayside and hand writing is now becoming more sloppy, messy, and illegible because it is no longer practiced. Everything is done via technology, in many instances, technology is replacing birthday cards, congratulation cards, etc as people are becoming more accustomed to the quick and easy methods of sending these type cards via emails and internet websites.

            While computers proved to be a useful tool, new technology is always developing. Computers began taking up the space of an entire room, then became desktops that fit in a three foot by three foot space easily, and now desktops are obsolete as there are laptops that are light weight, and can be carried everywhere with ease. However, the laptops are currently becoming obsolete as new ipads the size of a typical novel are now taking the place of the laptops. Ipads can do nearly everything that a computer can do only they are a lot smaller and more accessible. The ipads no longer have a keyboard but the keyboard is on a touch screen which is doing away with having to have the extra space for the keyboard. The touch screen itself has done away with the need of the computer mouse and everything is becoming combined into one little screen that can do everything that the larger computers, the size of a room, could do; only with more ease, quicker, and accessible.

            Ipads in the classrooms have taken the place of computers in the many schools , instead of going into one computer lab, now there are 30 or more ipads on a cart that be pushed from classroom to classroom. However, more recently children in New York City are now being required to own an ipad. This is a wonderful thing for students, in that they need to learn to use technology at early ages in order to be able to function in today’s modern society; however, not all parents are fortunate enough to afford these devices as the nation’s economy has fallen and more and more people are finding themselves unemployed. However, the children are being taught by the teachers how to use the ipads, and not being taught how to write and print the letters, words, and papers. Everything is done via technology even at young ages from elementary schools. These ipads while may be a useful tool for people, I do not believe that people are bettering the new generations by enforcing the new technology on the students. The generations that are in schools today are accustomed to the new technologies and it does not bother them as much as the elementary students. However, the elementary children need to not only be accustomed to using technology but they need a balance of both technology and hand writing. It is important for children to learn how to print and write in cursive in order to be able to sign their own names legibly if nothing else. If technology crashed, society would come to a standstill as none of the young generations now will know how to do anything even communicate without a computer, cell phone, or ipad.

            With the development of the ipad came the online readers. Literature has become a technology and is no longer an art. Printed media I considered to be an art, something that contained many pages of delicate and intricate work performed by the authors; so many of today’s great novels began as daily journals that would not exist if it were all done online. Today literature is online and while many people can type one hundred words per minute or more the time it takes to write a novel has somewhat become lessened, but for me reading a work of literature on the computer, or ipad is not something that I enjoy, but it is something that makes me lose respect for the author, I cannot seem to appreciate the work of literature as much if it is online.

            Reading and going to school used to mean carrying books by the bags full, sometimes as many as 20 books to all the class rooms during the day. Today the books for classes can be carried by one device, and the one device can carry several books. Sitting and reading on a screen, some people can argue that it gets the children more interested in reading as it is a new technology and similar to a computer screen or television screen; however, there used to be an argument that the led and tube screens were very damaging to the human eyes. Has that been forgotten with the development of new technology? The most disturbing problem with ipads and online readers is that they are taking the place of printed works. With the depletion of printed works, bookstores are slowly going out of business, and libraries are no longer being used. Everything is at the persons fingertips and they do not have to leave their homes to find and read a book, they can search for the book online and downloaded instantly.

            Not only have ipads come into the school systems, but technology on cell phones is a remarkable thing in today’s society. Used to a cell phone was meant for talking and making calls, particularly in cases of emergencies. Today cell phones have internet connections, and applications that allow people to do a variety of things. People can shop, browse the internet, and create lists all by different applications on cell phones. A recent push for school systems is to allow the students to use the cell phones during classes and in classrooms. This is something that is a shock as my generation despised the use of cell phones and they were prohibited as they became a distraction to teachers. The argument today is that cell phones provide students with a new form of research, and communication that can be useful to teachers. I have to disagree to an extent. The cell phones may be a good thing, if used in the proper way; however, the problem is that more students will be distracted and tempted to text other students during class than to actually pay attention to teachers and use them for their intended purposes. This is also an issue that exists with the ipads, as I have seen too many time people sitting in class on facebook or other social media websites rather than using the technology to learn.

            All of the new technology devices will have pro’s and con’s. The issue that arises is finding the line where enough is enough. Technology has crept into many peoples lives and gave them rough wake up calls as the things that they have done for years change and they can no longer do. I remember when my grandparents went to the pumps and were not allowed to get gas because they were at a credit card only gas pump. They did not and still do not have a credit card. Technology such as a credit card now is something that our generation does not even think of at age 18 we just sign up for one and that is that. Computers, ipads, and even cell phones are changing as we speak and while they may not be, in my personal opinion, the best for writing and literature they are creeping into our lives today just as credit cards did my grandparents.

Great Destinations for Families to visit!

In ancient times the southeastern US was home to many civilizations possessing a high degree of sophistication and organization. Their earthworks still dot the landscape today, and many of them are marked by museums. This is fun for the whole family, and it’s a great way to show kids that history doesn’t have to be dull. So take a midwest vacation

Image via Wikipedia

  and check out some of the awesome museums we have to offer!

• Etowah Indian Mounds is a Mississippian site in Bartow County, Georgia, which includes three main platform mounds and three smaller mounds. The site is now the location of the Etowah Indian Mounds Museum.

• Kolomoki Mounds Historic Park in Early County, Georgia, is a site from the Woodlands Period composed of eight visible mounds. Today it is a National Historic Landmark and has a museum built around part of the original excavation.

• Ocmulgee National Monument in Macon, Georgia, was one of the major population centers of the Mississippian Culture and includes several mounds. Today there is a park with a visitors’ center, a reconstructed lodge and tours of the complex.

• Trap Rock Gap in Union County, Georgia, is one of the most important rock art sites in the Southeast. Once poorly managed and almost inaccessible, the site has now been redesigned and outfitted with interpretive signs to make an outdoor museum.

• Alabama has the Moundville site, which was inhabited from about 1000 to 1450 AD. Today there is a museum, gift shop, and nature trails.

• Russell Cave National Monument near Bridgeport, Alabama, was inhabited in several different phases, from the Archaic period through the Mississippian. Today the monument is open to the public, and it is free to tour the cave. There are various facilities and activities, a visitors’ center and walking trails.

• Louisiana’s Poverty Point Historic Site is one of the most important sites of the Archaic Culture. Now regarded as unique among North american archaeological sites, Poverty Point is a National Historic Landmark with a museum, special events and tours.

• Not surprisingly, Mississippi also has its share of Mississippian culture sites. One of the largest is Winterville Mounds near Greenville, Mississippi. Today 12 of the remaining mounds are under archaeological investigation, and there is a museum on the site. Admission is free.

• For those wishing to know the history of native Americans from their point of view, there is the Choctaw Museum of the Southern Indian in Choctaw, Mississippi. Located on a Choctaw reservation, this museum features exhibits illustrating the lifestyle and history of Southeastern tribes. There is a gift shop and admission to the museum is free.

• In Natchez, MS can be found the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians. This site features a museum, a reconstructed Natchez house and three mounds. There is a gift shop and a nature trail, and admission is free.

These places can teach the whole family about the ancient peoples who lived in this land. For a unique and interesting vacation, visit museums and learn about some things that rarely make it into the history books.

Recently, a new information technologies actively enters into a life of museums. And it is not surprising. Transition from an industrial society to postindustrial, first of all, is connected with penetration of these technologies into all spheres of human activity. Work with the information, its storage, processing, the analysis and modern representation – does not do without application of an information technologies.

It concerns workings out of various databases, electronic catalogues, creations of museum Internet sites and portals, release of CD-disks, the organizations of virtual exhibitions, works with various museum information systems etc. In that time, it is necessary to recognize that working out of the given systems, databases, catalogues or virtual guidebooks usually is under construction by a time or attributive principle and very seldom it is possible to see the geographical or spatial approach in the organization of the given information, in its giving, the analysis and processing. Though, strangely enough, working in the museums, organizing and holding various exhibitions and other actions, museum employees first of all start with real space where they spend them and try to consider, at times to trifles, an arrangement of pictures, racks and other exhibits in the premises and halls. That is in usual activity they necessarily consider a spatial component.

In the end of the XX-th century GIS-SYSTEMS and GIS-TECHNOLOGIES have got from real space into the virtual. Modern Internet systems in the developed countries, in the majority are necessarily supplemented with a spatial binding and visualization possibility. Some researchers, considering development tendencies, the Internet and GIS, do the forecast about their obligatory merging and occurrence in the near future unique global geoinformation system (GLOBAS-GIS) on the base created at present in the USA of a network Internet-2.

These tendencies doesn’t bypass both modern western museums and their virtual Internet representations. Many of them already have the GIS rudiments in the form of the interactive electronic plan of a museum with travel possibility on its halls and a spatial binding of the exhibits and objects. The sites and portals of a historical and cultural or tourist orientation characterizing this or that territory or region ( staff, area, province) necessarily give an interactive map with an arrangement of the interesting user of objects (museums, galleries, sights etc.) and their spatial binding and possibility of the further work with available databases. That is the information bears an obligatory spatial component through which the user gets possibility to receive a different view and new characteristics of objects (an arrangement, affinity/remoteness, mutual relation among themselves etc.). Experts at work with such systems, get additional parameters for the account, inventories, the analysis, an estimation, the forecast and, naturally, acceptances of more correct decisions in the professional work. And from it win all – both experts, and usual users.

In museum space of Russia there are not a lot of examples of use of GIS-SYSTEMS and GIS-TECHNOLOGIES yet, though they are. It’s a department work of geoinformation systems in the State geological museum of V.I.Vernadsky. And it’s or these are the first application attempts of these technologies in museum space of Kareliya (GiS-Kizhi). And interactive floor plans for sites of some museums: large, such as the Hermitage (in drawing 1.13. The plan of the ground floor of the Hermitage), and small, such as Muzej Lva Kassilja located in Engels. The main site page of a museum of Lva Kassilja, and virtual round on museum halls.

And Web-Atlas of the cultural resources of the Volga region, on a site there is the Alphabet of Volga, which created at the initiative of Commonwealth of museum workers of the Volga region.

  And the realization project of virtual mineralogical museum IGTU in Irkutsk, executed on the basis of GIS. But it is necessary to recognize that these attempts are not perfect and far yet from modern possibilities of geoinformation systems with which so other areas of human activity are rich. As an example of their successful use, we will specify open help geoinformation system of the Saratov state university where it is resulted and systematized almost all information on the campus , eleven its cases and fifty floor plans in the space.

Data on more thousand of university premises, with instructions of their accessory and appointment and functional use, presence of those or other communication systems and so on are resulted here. Functionally given system has search possibilities, as from the university plan, (i.e. a spatial arrangement of objects), and through usual attributive databases with possibility of simultaneous reception of spatial localization. Besides, using GIS-SGU, the visitor can obtain the data practically about each employee of university, learn about character of its work, a post, publications, to receive an e-mail address and then to send the electronic message. And most that remarkable, the given system works in a mode of remote access from any point of the world where there is an Internet connection.

In various areas of human activity, it is necessary to extend experience of working out and use of GIS-SYSTEMS and GIS-TECHNOLOGIES widely to the Russian museum sphere, supplementing with new functions and possibilities already available museum information systems and giving a spatial binding to almost all museum objects. It concerns also the account and inventory of objects, their analysis and an estimation, and receptions together with the attributive information of new characteristics and properties. Application of GIS-TECHNOLOGIES and GIS-SYSTEMS, both opened, and corporate, in museums of Russia, will make more accessible and attractive the information available in them and will give to experts the new, modern tool of work, and to users a new view on culture and history of the city, area, edge.

Thus, now GIS represents modern type of the integrated information system applied divergently. It meets the requirements global information of a society. GIS is a system promoting the decision of administrative and economic problems on the basis of means and information methods, i.e. information of a society that promoting process in interests of progress.

GIS as the system and its methodology are improved and developed, its development is carried out in following directions:

- Development of the theory and practice of information systems;

- Studying and generalization of an operational experience with the spatial data;

- Research and working out of creation concepts of existential models system;

- Technological perfection of the automated manufacturing of electronic and digital maps;

- Technological workings out of visual data processing;

- Supporting methodical workings out of decision-making on the basis of the integrated spatial information;

- GIS intellectualizations .

Is pop art just graffiti?

What we now believe to be pop art was nothing more than graffiti many years ago. You see, people drew pictures on fences, sidewalks, buildings or any place where the Public would see their creations. It’s also a popular means of expression for Hispanic people as well as those who enjoy painting pictures on buildings or any other public place where people gather. Members of violent street gangs also use such graffiti to mark the territory in which they continue their criminal activities.

So too, where those violent gangs exist, the police should have put an end to each and every such gangs a long time ago. Nearly every honest person within the United States of America has now suffered the effects or otherwise become a victim of such behavior. Worse yet, the cost to combat such gang activity is rising higher than a kite in a hurricane, without an end or solution to the problem of violent street gang activity.

Yes that gang graffiti was the beginning of pop art within the United States of America, and some believe that there is some artistic merit in the appearance of gang symbols and stylized threat messages in full view of the Public.

Well, for those who simply want to live an honest and a safe life within such an environment, that art work has caused and continues to cause the property values of business and homes to depreciate and the costs of property insurance to rise higher than a kite in a hurricane.

If you haven’t guessed, I hate pop art for all of those above reasons. They are and continue to be nothing more than warning signs of what can happen to honest people if they go into such places where, more often than not, they become victims of the most evil and heartless criminals within our society.

They sell or give away deadly, illegal and addictive drugs to anyone who wants them, including our children. They sell deadly weapons, rob honest people and extort money from business owners. They make prostitutes out of young and innocent girls and take most of all of the money that those women earn, while at the same time, cause those girls to be addicted to the most deadly drugs known to Mankind.

The police and our politicians better put an end to that as soon as possible, before honest citizens themselves become criminals and simply kill each and every gang member that they see. So too, our society doesn’t need cops who take pay-offs from those gang criminals in order to supplement their income as police officers. Nor do we need police offices who are nothing more than cowards who allow such criminal activity to continue as if such criminal activity is a perfectly fine thing to do.

You now know what I think of pop art. Like any other kind of art, it does raise the emotions of the viewer in a positive or a negative way.

The populations of people with disabilities who need accommodations in the U.S. and Europe are important. In the U.S. alone, more than 54 million disabled people, many of whom want to travel and are able to do it, but not always.

Lack of suitable housing in the scheme of travel was a long barrier to people with disabilities. Even when the hotel stay can be found that are tailored to individual needs, restrictions on access to the desired destination sites often allow these people to enjoy the opportunity to travel.

Provisions are often found in transportation, but the disabled must face problems with access to restaurants, hotels, museums and other destinations of the trip. Too many may find to be very disappointing and emotionally exhausting. More simply never try, believe that will not be able to enjoy.

Others may have tried in the past, only to discover the terrible experience. For those who have traveled alone to experience the disappointment of the unavailability of the journey, they are not just negative emotions associated with the experience, but also cost. They lost money on something that has come very far from the expectations we have for this event.

Many disabled people have dreams of traveling has simply given up. Even though they know they have the right to enjoy the same opportunities made available to persons without disabilities have also come to believe that simply not worth all the work, emotional stress, and the huge disappointment that we consider the face trying to get .

While the last decade to support feelings of people with disabilities in accessible tourism, recent changes in the industry are the open world of travel to many places around the world. Disabled people may be surprised to learn many of the tourist industry began to be popular. Number of companies that offer accessible tourism has increased dramatically over the past five years. Most service areas of these businesses in North America or Europe, but the improvement for people with disabilities is extremely important.

These changes have produced a number of reasons. The ethics of the matter is no reason. Some companies have taken their ethical responsibilities about equal access and accommodation in a serious consideration, even before they were forced by law to implement these measures. Unfortunately, most companies through either ignorance or fear of the expenses that can be made no change in availability until they are forced to do so. Many, even then, did the minimum required by the regulatory provisions.

Tourism is after all a business and often, companies must see the benefits that may exist in a company before they are vested in him. Accessible tourism is no different from any other company in another company where a new population can be exploited to add the potential benefits.

Many in the travel industry have discovered the untapped market of people with disabilities. Recent studies in both the U.S. and Europe have helped the travel industry, with specific figures on the number of persons with disabilities, children who are able to travel, and even the figures for those who like to travel. These statistics have led many in the tourism industry to recognize the full availability measures can affect the success of tourism.

Many people in the UK and continental Europe is increasingly ready for easy access for the disabled. Many older cities in the U.S. and Europe, this unique challenge, with narrow streets and rough, and some outdated facilities available to older buildings, but many are beginning to integrate the ingenuity accessibility for people who need them. This trend is only bound to increase, as more within the tourism industry and other sectors begin to understand the market, they are missing.

A number of specialty stores in the U.S. and Europe to meet the needs of travelers with disabilities. Many of these companies are well established in its niche, which has existed for decades, but because of restrictions imposed on the size of the company and the geographical boundaries of the system of tourism at their disposal are limited.

From small businesses and more and more important in the travel industry is about to make adjustments in their routines and procedures, the ability of people with disabilities travel, but only increase. Provide emergency assistance 24 hours, competent employees, and the adaptive features that make the journey safe and comfortable.

Skipping school.

Do you know that there are actually students who NEVER SKIPPED SCHOOL??!! I was a good student and even I skipped school. There was that time I had the old Ford and my parents let me drive it to school. Only it never made it to school. We went to shop in Morristown. It didn’t matter that we had no money after we put 2 quarters in the meter. We didn’t care. We were free!! We walked through the park and window shopped. We ”pretend” shopped all day! I think it was Cheryl Smith and someone else. I don’t remember the “someone else.” This is due to the fact that Cheryl never came to school. That’s how I remember it was her! I’m thinking the other person was Janey, but don’t really know. It was many years ago.

I’m so glad I didn’t have parents that checked up on me. I felt sorry for those who did try to keep track of their students. We were in a rural area so we took the bus to school. Then when we turned 16, we could drive. I either took the bus or walked to school. If I walked to school, it was a 50-50 chance I would make it to school. The bus was generally a sure thing. However, there were just some days when I could not handle school.

I was a fairly good student so I could cut homeroom. If you cut homeroom, you were listed as absent. All I had to do was cut homeroom, then show up for the classes I wanted. I’d be marked absent but it saved me from those other “godawful” classes. Teachers would just assume I was absent because I was on the absent list.

I never cut a math class. I never cut Spanish. I never cut Chemistry. As far as I was concerned, the remainder of the classes were superfluous.

At this point in my life, and seeing what I see as a teacher, there is a lot of fluff time in school. Of the 6.5 hours of school, I would say actual instruction time is much less.

I have a friend who is home schooling her four children. She is doing a great job and has many more field trips and hands-on things to do. She doesn’t have to worry about mis-behaving students, students leaving early, students coming in late, students disrupting class…. sounds like my kind of career!

There was a time when I thought children being home schooled was not a good thing. In my mind, they missed out on the interaction between classmates. However, after actually seeing it done, I think I am now an advocate for those advanced students who are home schooled. I believe a lot of people don’t understand the concept of the home school. Now that I’ve seen it in action, I think it’s a great concept.

When you have no money there are still free things you can do. Most cities and towns have parks to walk in and what is nicer than a long scenic walk with a friend? Carry a couple of sandwiches and have a picnic. Museums are usually free to the public. Libraries are wonderful places to browse for books you always planned to read, and sometimes a nice long nap is the most pleasant thing you can do for yourself.

Funs Things for Free

When money is tight and you feel like you must socialize and have a little fun, you really can and it won’t cost you a red cent. Invite your best friend over and give each other an oatmeal facial. Do your finger nails and toe nails, set each others hair, then wrap up on the couch and watch an interesting TV program.

Go to AddictingGames.com. They have thousands of games, puzzles, action, sports and more. Do a jigsaw with Daily JigSaw or find more games at FreeArcade.com.

Most museums are free. If you have gas in the car go check out a few museums. Go to Free-Attractions.com to see where admissions are free and take your camera along to make pictures if they allow it.

Swap your stuff you no longer wear. Go to Swapstyle.com to join an online fashion party. It’s free so shop all day if you want to. Swap books at PaperBackSwap.com and textbooks at Bookswap.com. If you have DVDs to swap, go to SwapaDVD.com or TitleTrader.com.

Don’t leave out your local library. Practially every book you ever wanted to read is there waiting for you to check out. Experience the action, visit faraway places, learn to make jewelry or a quilt.

If you are interested in scholarships and grants and have a few hours go to, FastWeb.com. It might take awhile but you’re sure to find some scholarships and grants that fit your background.

Would you like to decorate and fix up your house? Home Depot has in store classes that show you how to tile a floor, paint, hang drywall and other fixes. Go to HomeDepot.com and click on “Know-How” then “clinics.” For online help go to Lowes.com, click on services then “How-To-Projects.”

You must have a box of photos, sort them out to start and album. If your photos are digital, upload them to websites like PhotoBucket.com. It’s free. You can crop, edit and organize to create an album to share with friends.

Most cities have free festivals, picnics and concerts. Check your newspaper and city websites for information. See the websites of churches, colleges, and your chamber of commerce. Google the name of your city plus “tourist” and be surprised at what you find.

See, I told you there lots of things you can still do when you have no money and if you are not interested in any of the above, turn on some music, find a book and stretch in a comfortable place, who knows, you might be able to take a nice long nap.

Some people claim that museums are a waste of money and it would be better to spend money on other things. Other people think that museums are for knowing past in the best way. How important are museums
in our lives?

   There are some people who think that museums are boring and in spite of this don’t go there. Tastes differ but actually museums tell us our history and people should be encouraged to visit them. In addition, museums enable people to explore collections for inspiration, learning and enjoyment. They are institutions that collect, preserve and make accessible artefacts and specimens, which they hold in trust for society. These rare and valuable collections are displayed so they can be shared with the general public. Only in the museum people are able to see how different the real thing is from what they see on a printed page.

   On the other hand, some museums are quite expensive and people can’t afford going to them. Thus people, especially young ones, should be maintained to go to the museums.

        To sum up I’d like to say that museums are places that walk you through your history.
