Hopefully, you’ve already read Part One of these tips for organizing your school fundraiser. A smart plan can make your school fundraiser much easier. Here are some other considerations:

Using a consultant
Consider using a fundraising consultant to assist your organization with larger fundraisers, first-time events, or mission critical efforts. Among the benefits of using professional help are the following: increased market penetration, increased sales per client, higher average sales volume per participant, and smoother logistical flow.

Use a fundraising consultant to take the hassle out of organizing your event and put the “fun” back in fundraising again.

Protect your reputation
Offer only high quality products. Remember that no one feels good about overpaying for something or getting shoddy merchandise in return for a contribution. Take the high road and build loyalty within your customer base.

Profit percentage
Place less emphasis on the percentage profit offered by the supplier and focus more on the total net profit generated. Higher unit prices will mean higher total sales revenue and often, higher profits per customer.

That’s not to say that percentage isn’t important, but consider other factors as well. Look at whether sales incentives are included, hidden costs that may arise, sales brochures that cost extra, poor quality merchandise that can hurt future sales, and so on.

Incentives
Rewards will increase participation and that can positively effect the net proceeds from your efforts. The quality of the incentives is an important motivator. If appropriate, consider rewards from among the products you’re offering. Look to local merchants for supplemental prizes.

Insist on best value
People will be more inclined to buy if you’re offering quality goods at the right price. Higher-priced goods will actually generate more net from each sales transaction to your organization than the cheap stuff that offers a higher percentage profit to your group.

Price points
Many times, different organizations conduct similar fundraisers at coincidental times. Make sure that the prices asked are comparable to other fundraisers in your community. Check prices ranges via the Internet and with other nearby organizations. Look at other catalogs, retail merchant pricing for similar goods, and trust your gut instincts.

Beware of perfuming the pig
There’s an old saying about making a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. It means that someone is trying to assign a higher value to an item than it is worth. Another phrase often used to reference the deceptive selling of overpriced goods is “perfuming the pig.” <

If you overcharge your customers for common items, they’ll resent it, consciously or subconsciously. Compare results with records from past fundraisers to check what price points were offered before on similar items. Be certain to give fair market value for the items your group is offering. You want those customers back the next time, don’t you?

Setup calling trees
Once your fundraiser has begun, don’t forget to utilize your calling tree for immediate feedback. Ask if there are any problems, check on initial reaction from participants and their families, keep the enthusiasm level high, and don’t let your initial positive momentum slip away. Regular polling of team leaders and participants will keep you informed.

Doubling Up
Double check all order forms and check payments to be sure they’re correctly filled out. Double-team all money handling facets of the fundraising process. Have double dates (makeup days) planned in advance in case of inclement weather or other unforeseen delays on delivery day.

Use co-chairs for each mission critical function. Cross train on all tasks. Keep duplicate records of important details in a different location as part of your backup plan. In the world of technology, this is called disaster recovery or disaster prevention. Double count all deliveries coming in and going out.

Record Keeping
Accurate records are a lifesaver and a source of information for future fundraisers. Follow audit guidelines just as if you were a small business. As a non-profit organization, you have to be able to document the source of your funding as well as how those funds were spent.

Setting goals and deadlines
Do this well in advance, mapping out campaign timelines and strategies before the school or fiscal year starts if possible. Your goals should be realistic and based upon solid data from previous results. Take some time to think what extra offerings you could add that would double the net proceeds from each customer.

Always have a hard deadline for the sales period to end, nothing more than 17 days. Seventeen days is two weeks plus an extra weekend, the prime selling time.

Don’t forget to smell the roses
A well-planned and well-executed fundraiser will leave you time to bask in the glory of your success. Remember to have fun and good luck!

If you want to operate a tax-exempt charitable organization to support a favorite cause, you will have to have 501(c)(3) tax status. You may find more donors and sponsors if you have this designation because it also adds an image of trustworthiness, in addition to providing a tax write-off for donations.

To form a 501(c)(3), create a state-recognized legal entity and apply to the IRS for 501(c)(3) status. The IRS verifies that you fit the non-profit organization status and awards you an exemption from federal, state and local taxes. On its website, the IRS states: “An organization may qualify for exemption from federal income tax if it is organized and operated exclusively for one or more of the following purposes: Religious, charitable, scientific, testing for public safety, literary, educational, fostering national or international amateur sports competition (but only if none of its activities involve providing athletic facilities or equipment), the prevention of cruelty to children or animals.”

Image via Wikipedia

Considerations

Do not underestimate the scrutiny your non-profit will undergo. There are serious rules you must follow, or you will lose your tax-exempt status, and possibly go to jail. Anyone connected with your organization is forbidden to derive benefit in terms of income or business from its operations. You can hire employees who earn standard wages and you can employ outside service providers, but you must keep all financial outlays fully supportable and scrupulously separate from people controlling the organization. You also may not engage in political influencing, such as lobbying, donating money to a particular candidate, distributing political information or giving speeches supporting a particular candidate or political agenda.

Incorporate

Your first step is to create a legal identity in your state. This can be a corporation, community chest, fund, foundation or charitable trust. A good way to do this is to form your board of directors and decide on the purpose, goals, operations and fundraising activities of your organization. Your business model, organization name and corporate identity should be fully accepted by the board members before you begin the process of incorporation.

Use the decisions made by the board of directors to draft articles of incorporation and bylaws to submit with your application for corporate status. It is easier to use a service like LegalZoom to file your incorporation. They will already have standard articles of incorporation and bylaws to use, which will save you a lot of time. A service will also likely be less expensive, and certainly less aggravating, than doing it yourself.

Your incorporation service will apply to your state office in charge of corporations for your corporate legal status, but if you don’t use a service, you will have to do this yourself. Whether you or a service handles the incorporation, collect the addresses, social security numbers and pictures of driver’s licenses for your board officers. Each state has different requirements, so save time and confusion by getting all the information you might need in advance.

Tax Status

Get your employer identification number, commonly known as the EIN, from the IRS. Once you receive notification from your state indicating that your incorporation has gone through, you can either fill out IRS Form SS-4 or call 1-800-829-4933 to obtain your EIN. You will be responsible for keeping your records up to date, including board minutes and financials. You must also file yearly disclosure documents with the IRS and Form 990 or 990EZ.

For your 501(c)(3) application you will need IRS Form 1023, a copy of your articles of incorporation, a copy of the organizing document and a copy of your organization bylaws. Also prepare a written description of the organization, its purpose and its actual activities. Of extreme importance are professionally prepared financial statements of the organization showing assets, liabilities, receipts and disbursements, sources of the organization’s income and receipts given to donors. The IRS may have additional requests for information, which you must supply promptly.

Filing

File your Form 1023 with the IRS within 27 months after the date of your incorporation. This Form 1023 applies for your tax-exempt status. It will be pending approval for as long as six months, but you may operate as a non-profit until your application is either accepted or denied. If denied, you will have to pay any taxes due and your donors will not receive tax deductions on their donations.

The IRS website has some excellent information that is easy to access.
Looking for a new career? Thinking of starting a business that satisfies your emotional needs as well as your financial needs? You can help others while helping yourself, as long as you pay attention to the IRS requirements.

Sometimes it seems the world needs a little help. Heck, you probably need a little help, too. If you are looking for something new, perhaps a new career or something that can give you the satisfaction that your cubicle job, and the worries that you will lose that job, aren’t bringing you, consider starting your own non-profit organization.

The 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (NPO) designation is merely a tax status that allows the NPO to take in money without having to pay income taxes, as long as specific requirements are met, primarily prohibiting the sale of goods and services for a profit. This gives you a lot of leeway in your operations. You can certainly pay yourself a salary, hire employees and pay for the basic operations of your business, but the money you take in must be in the form of sponsorships and donations. This is a matter of semantics. You can charge money for goods and services, as long as it is a suggested donation.

If you are thinking you can get away with operating your normal business without paying tax, forget it. You must be serving the community in some way that is in keeping with the guidelines put forth by the Internal Revenue Service ( IRS Frequently Asked Questions About Tax-Exempt Organizations http://www.irs.gov/charities/content/0,,id=96986,00.html).

Incorporate

You will have to file for incorporation in the state in which you intend to operate. All non-profits start out as corporations. The easiest way to do this is to use an incorporation service such as LegalZoom.com since the process differs slightly from state to state and it is more convenient and usually less expensive to use a service.

Create a Good Name

Take a look at the types of names used by successful NPOs. They have a quality of emotional appeal to them. Your name is extremely important in attracting attention to your organization. Create several different names for your NPO. When you file your incorporation papers you will have to supply at least three names which will be checked for similarities to other existing corporations.

Management

Decide who will be your top managing executives, known in NPO’s as Executive Director, Assistant Director and Treasurer. You will need social security number, legal address and a copy of identification such as a driver’s license or passport for each corporate officer for your filing.

Board of Directors

Invite and appoint your Board of Directors, including your Chairman. Because the Board acts to protect the public interest by overseeing the operations of the NPO, the Executive Director is not normally included on the Board of Directors. You should also collect social security numbers, addresses and copies of identification for these individuals as they may be required in your state. Fundraising is important to a 501(c)(3) so invite directors and advisers who, by virtue of their celebrity status or their connections, can contribute to the organization’s ability to raise funds.

Federal Tax

File for Federal 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt status and non-profit status in your state after establishing the corporation, if the state status wasn’t part of your original incorporation filing. The service will do this for you.

First Official Duty

Hold your first Board of Directors meeting to ratify the Bylaws and the appointment of directors and executives. The Secretary should take minutes and you should set the date for the next meeting.

Business Plan

Once your 501(c)(3) is formed, you should create a detailed business plan because it will form the core of your grant proposals and it will be vital in attracting influential members for your Board of Directors, Board of Advisers, attorneys, accountants, public relations professionals, and donors. It can even form the content for your website, which will add to your image and provide information about your organization. A good business plan template can be found at www.aBusinessPlan.com.

Fundraising is both challenging as it is rewarding. Raising the needed fund for a worthy cause is indeed spiritually and emotionally satisfying.

Every school organization may want to extend a helping hand to those folks who are in dire need. The prospect beneficiary could either be a charitable institution, an orphanage, a community project, and the likes. However, no matter how pure the intention is, school funds can be exceptionally tight. Even the school itself needs aid from people who have a kind heart to give out donations.

When your school organization aims to help out through whatever possible means regardless of who or which is the beneficiary, fundraising is just the most precise thing to do. Is it not much fulfilling on your part to put out the best possible effort you can in order to earn money for a specific cause or if you’re earning money to help others? Of course it is!

Confused of which fundraising strategy to go for? There are a lot of fundraising ideas to opt for which may either be simple or a bit complicated. As a matter of fact, it is usually the simplest plan which works best.

What can fundraising do for you?

Due to the fact that fundraising stirs the best out from you, the feeling of being able to help the needy is particularly spiritually and emotionally gratifying. Fundraising campaigns are as well beneficial for your organization as it heightens the return of good and positive feedbacks that your group may get.

Apart from all other glorifying aspects which fundraising generate, one’s creativity, organizational skills, communication dexterities, and firmness as likewise enhanced. During fundraising ventures, you and your group mates get the chance to interact with people from all walks of life and be able experience for yourselves the real score outside of the world which you are traditionally confined in.

Fundraising Ideas

There are a number of fundraising ideas that your school organization can choose from. The most common fundraising ideas are selling sandwiches, candy and chocolate bars, shakes, beverages, meal coupons, concert tickets, basketball game tickets, discount coupons, personalized shirts, mugs, pens, and other collectible items, and so on. Cooking and then selling the output from the recipes you have collected can also be effective. You can try selling them to the school’s population or to the outside community. Your organization can even team up with the school’s sports games and earn profit from the ticket sales. Or, your organization may stage a concert for a cause. Garage sale and car washing is also among the trendiest fundraising activities these days.

Things to Consider in Fundraising

After finally deciding on which fundraising idea to go for, there are two major things which must be borne in mind. The first thing is to carefully think about the percentage of profit that you will make out of the fundraising activity. When your organization had opted to team up with another organization or some company, the agreement must be put into writing.

Next, it is significant to make sure that the products you put up for sale for the fundraising campaign are worth it. Once the people know for a fact the real cause for the fundraising activity, they tend to be exceptionally generous.

Any fundraising activity needs careful planning. For the campaign to be highly successful, it is important that all members of your organization should concert enough effort for the realization of the specified goals.

At the same time, unfortunately, civic activities are seen as “communist.” For 40 years, our country, volunteerismhas been imposed, and this did not help too much collective mentality.

Today, however, these activities are very varied, but involve young people who call and are considered idealistic.Volunteering is no longer required, everyone can choose if he wants to dedicate to such work uneu. Young people who engage in volunteering still believe that the world can be changed, that everything may take a positive turn with the actions taken by them in the community.

Those who should be most easily understood by citizens activities should be voluntary in terms of ecology, but no they do not attract volunteers.

Volunteers November appear, usually within an organization which recently had a successful project, so I think people are offered more opportunities and get involved with thoughts of achievement.

Law Volunteer defines these civic activities as follows:

Volunteering is an activity of public interest carried on its own initiative any person, for the benefit of others, without receiving a material, work is work performed in public areas such as health and social services, protection of human rights, healthcare cultural, artistic, educational, educational, scientific, humanitarian, religious, philanthropic, sports, environmental protection, social and community and others.

"This letter is in support of a non profit organization in India, named "Gudiya's

Foundation", who is seeking a help from you.. .. I have read his statement of purpose with

great care; in fact, I have had many discussions with him about his project, which I find

both compelling and important.

Gudiya’s Foundation is a rare combination: he is already at this young age a seasoned expert

in both SEO & SEM . . . . Having taught him in a running a non profit organisation last

year, I can bear witness to his superb command of Attitude . . . .

His project’s focus of interest, the idea is admirably suited to someone of Gudiya’s

Foundation’s talents and non profit organisations. The Gudiya’s Foundation is the ideal

place to carry out such research, and I am confident that Gudiya’s Foundation’s discoveries

will in the long run make an impact on other non profit organisations

Add to all this that “Gudiya’s Foundation” founder is a very congenial person, well-liked by

people and fellow-workers alike, and you will see why I am so positive about this bright and

energetic young scholar. I endorse his candidacy with confidence and enthusiasm.”

in his words :

If you look at the world around us and the United States, England, Russia, India .. etc, rather than a person who is

linked to nationality, religion, ideology, it is very easy to say we live in a crazy world. Every nation is a

armed with weapons more dangerous and destructive in their hands, and each government maintains that it should protect

population. When a group of people can have their sect protected wild animals, slowly, as you dominate animals

unfortunately, was the way to a man to protect himself against a man. If you are a little “sensitive, you can monitor

The security of this desire for us all. Obsequiously must be guaranteed food and clothing for every person on this planet can

do not deny it, but because he wants to be secure psychologically?.

Not wanting to hurt, insulted, or dominate the other is the psychological security, a sense of peace that we want our lives

and the misunderstandings that the accumulation of more knowledge, power, status will be happy. If you’re logic, you

understand that we can bring good luck at the end of many others, that is not the end, luck is not reflected in our lives.

Meanwhile, another man is also looking for more, you say, if it stops more than I want, like a snake on its tail. When you

make changes in your life, you’re ready for the grave, if you wait for a change,? Or you going to change the society.?

Can we keep this pain? “I can see the team of pain, like a precious jewel -? No escape, not eliminate, rationalization, no,

not to seek the cause of it, but a ship holding water Save this thing called pain, pain is that I lost my sister and I was

alone, not to escape loneliness, not to exclude, not intellectually, rationalizing it, but see the loneliness, to understand

the depth the nature of them. Loneliness is a total isolation caused our daily selfish ambition or ideological ambitions,

competitions separately. These are activities that lead to loneliness. But if you flee, you will never solve the pain.

Our training begins from day one and we are with you in every step of the way.

That all sounds great, but what’s the work environment really like?

After all, children are competing against each other, aren’t they?

You might think our children compete with each other. But usually it’s just the opposite.

Our work environment is more like being part of an athletic team.Gudiya’s Foundation children develop their own skills and expertise, much like different athletes on a team focus on their own strengths and responsibilities.

The management team is there to help each and every child achieve his or her full potential, while leading the team to achieve their goals and continuous growth.

Have you realized just how much fundraising is going on these days? There is fundraising for little league, school fundraisers, and the college fundraiser, as well as church fundraisers.

Day cares need more funds, hospitals need new equipment, and cheerleaders need to fundraise for their costumes. And to think up new fundraising ideas that will be successful is becoming more challenging every day.

On a good note, it shows that people do care how others live and cope with their lives. However, it also means that, because we are always being asked to donate to one good cause after another, we are not always able to help. Despite our best intentions, our own funds simply will not stretch that far.

However, if we request the donation of items instead of cash, that is often a relief to a potential donor. People will often gladly donate a can of food for a food drive, or a kitchen item they have never used for a sale, whereas they would not donate cash. And there are many kinds of fundraising ideas you can use to hold sales based on items collected.

For example, you could hold a toy drive that would give your organization toys to sell to support your work. Or what about a gardening sale? If you have some volunteers with green thumbs, they could easily grow some plant cuttings or start some seeds or bulbs growing ready for a plant sale in the spring or early summer, when the general public is looking to restock their garden after the winter.

Book sales are always well attended, but of course you will need to collect a lot of donated books to make this a success, as books do not generally sell for a high price. You could approach local publishers to see if they have any books that they could donate to support your cause. If they do give you some books, don’t forget to write them after your event to thank them and also to let them know how successful you were and how much their donation helped you. Donors like to be thanked, and they are more likely to support you in the future if they know their gift has been appreciated in the past.

Some groups like to ask for donated items and then they use these to make up some themed gift baskets which they then raffle, usually at another fundraising event. For example you may make up a bath basket containing some soap, hand towels and bath salts from your donated items. The trick here is to keep raffle tickets affordable, especially if you are expecting those that donated the items to be buying the raffle tickets!

You may find that some people are willing to volunteer their time rather than funds. For example an electrician may prefer to spend a half day checking the wiring in the new offices your non-profit group just moved into, rather than donate cash. As long as this benefits your non-profit organization, any donation is welcome, whether it is time or money, but make sure your donors know what the goal of your organization is, and how their assistance will help you. They may then mention it to their circle of friends, and this kind of promotion is very valuable.
