For those who know me and the Cosmic Code jurisdictions, no explanation is necessary; for those who do not, none will ever suffice…

Dr. Turi

Predictions with George Noory

(full TV special from 2006)

Hello readers:

Here is your chance to once more appreciate the reality of my unarguable predictions in a television show produced by George Noory. First, a year earlier in 2005 on Coast to Coast I told George he would go on television and here we were… If you already watched my latest video, either watch it again of forward it with your cursor to 24 mn 40 seconds for my presentation.

”Dr. Turi, your predictions on CTC have been remarkable! I get more response to you than any other guests I have ever had your accuracy so far has been 100%.”

While this is one of the best public endorsement George offered me the fact is; in no way would a man of such celebrity status would ever take a chance on me if he did not witness my gift first hand…The fact is I am real, my gift is real and my mission even more critical… As a Gemini George is a “Messenger of the Gods” put in a position where he has to deal with reality and fiction and pass on the truth to the million of people listening to his national popular radio show. In this show I offered a set of dates and a very serious warning about nuclear power falling in the wrong hands. Take the time to watch all the “psychics” and be the judge of their talents, listen to their words and six years later compare their visions to what’s going on in the world nowadays…

What a great opportunity and what a great service George Noory is doing and has done with this show! He somehow forced everyone of his guests to a crystallization of time in space in a well documented, dated set of predictions, allowing you to judge who is gifted or not. Just because, there is only a thin hair between divine information and pure imagination…

Back then in 2006 Iran was certainly not in the news or sought as a nuclear threat to the world and once again my prediction came to pass when George asked me to focus in one specific prediction for the years to come. It was all about NUKES and foreign powers trying to get nukes to destroy America because of religion…

Indeed a “religious war” prediction I made on CTC with Art Bell back March 26, 1995 or eleven years earlier and well before Osama Bin Laden came in the picture…

After the facts, George came back and once more endorsed my work! With the upcoming Scorpius Dragon, wake up calls, facts and secrets will come to the fore where charlatans, so-called astrologer, deceptive psychics, false prophets, negative conspiracy and religious “Talking Heads” cheaters and liars will be exposed, eliminated and where the undiluted truth will reign…and so will Dr. Turi!

I am not in an ego trip here, just doing yet another prediction because this is what I do best! The option to wake up and see the gifted or deceptive spiritualists you trust with your life will be offered to you as the deadly, unforgiving Plutonic “psychic” cleansing is slowly taking place. I see an army of moronic uninformed, unconscious scientists and skeptics alike raging battles with me where the truly gifted will shine and convince many…I wold strongly recommend the reader to check on my predictions page to acknowledge what the future has in store for humanity because in time, you will face the future…

More dramatic news are to expected soon with Iran President Ahmadinejad about to make an announcement to the world. In all I am asking for your trust and positive thoughts because with time, your thoughts will turn into solid things. Once more a warm thank you to George Noory for endorsing and confirming all my predictions to the world.

“A Middle East implosion is written in the stars, says popular astrologer Louis Turi, who sees a fall in organized religion”

A show and predictions you do not want to miss…

Dr. Louis Turi, World-Famous Astrologer.

In a pre-recorded segment bridging the live segments, we’ll hear from Dr. Louis Turi about what he believes the year 2012 will bring … and it’s not the end of the world. With his sense of humor and enthusiastic call for people to tap into universal consciousness, Turi enjoys an international following of the “spiritual but not religious” who are seeking answers beyond the confines of religious dogma. Soon to be featured on The Discovery Channel, Dr. Turi is well known for his appearances on Coast To Coast AM, the BBC in London and other radio and television outlets. His clients include celebrities such as Ivana Trump, Peter Fonda, Gary Busey, Denis Haysbert, John Gray and many others.

A Workshop that will change your entire conception of life at the
Body Soul Spirit Expo

The fact is reading people UCI/stars and fate accurately or making accurate prediction is something ANYONE can do! All you need is building a full Cosmic Consciousness reflex… No I am not special, I may be gifted because no one taught me the Cosmic Code secrets and how to use the “signs” accordingly, but with me as your teacher, you can’t go wrong, period! I will be doing a lecture presentation in Canada next May and I can guarantee you that , after the workshop many people will become my new Astropsychology students.

With the new Scorpius Dragon two years reign, expect a serious surge and need to master real metaphysical secrets and as Scorpio means dying and re-birthing, the imposed universal psychological transformation will benefit many. The world is in serious need of real spiritually advanced souls which will in time become the new Leaders of the New Age of Aquarius when the Age of Pisces give way to the Aquarius celestial “energy.”

Many of my future students’ children will embark in their own mission to change this world and re-introduce God’s celestial will to humanity. The decision you are about to make to join my new age movement has much more in store than what you will ever be able to conceive readers, and in accordance to the Universal rules its all unfolding as imposed by the creator himself…you may only be unconscious of it, that’s all and you are actually already doing it by reading my work…. Take chance with me today or in May and be a part of an unseen force you can feel deeply into your soul, because you are doing the right think for you, your children and humanity at large!

Ashamed of the recent incident of a boy murdered cold bloodedly in broad daylight.

I bow my head in shame, YES, “shame”. I just saw the footage of a boy killed by Pakistani rangers in broad day light. It is not just one footage I am talking about, the Chechens a few days back were killed just like that, two innocent boys murdered publicly by common people in Sialkot and so on, the list of brutalities is so long. The real face of Pakistani people is so horrible that it disgusts me now.

They are a bunch of depressed people who are at the verge of disintegration.

It would have been justified for barbarians from the pre-historic era as they did not hide behind a fake education cover.

What is wrong with us?

Why are all of us so quiet?

The answer is simple, we are a dead nation, no one would rise and shout revolution, because they are so tied up in financial crisis and security issues that they would never protest. We simply let it go unquestioned. It is a matter of days, when an incident like this and many others would be forgotten. I for one cannot forget it or let it go unnoticed. What I am so worried about is, even if the boy had committed a crime, the rangers had no right to shoot. In civilized societies, they take these matters to court. The people with that ranger, his co-workers stood there watching?

After all that happened, the government has the guts to go on the media and tell us, how big a criminal was that boy carrying a toy gun? Ridiculous, utter non-sense !

My anger is not directed towards the rangers alone, it is directed towards the armed forces too, What right do they have to rule us like emperors? None!

They feed and live on our taxes, our hard earned money and go on terrorizing us? They live in elite areas in the heart of the cities, endangering the whole damned population. If God forbid, we are attacked, the cantonment areas are right in the middle of heavily populated towns. It would be a catastrophic situation.

What right do they have to run schools, be chancellors in the universities, run businesses on lands they don’t own, the amnesty plots under their illegal control? I call them all illiterate MONSTERS with guns. Yes! I am no longer proud of their existence. Why should 80% of the budget go to them and less than 1% budget go to education and health. What kind of morale do we support? We can pay these goons to buy nukes they should not have to begin with!

I don’t trust these people hired to protect us anymore, they scare me. This is not the environment any of us would like to raise our kids in. Our protectors are the looters and plunderers, not long ago they did the same to Bengalis. I get goose bumps when I read the stories about the atrocities done by our armed forces, killing students, professors, doctors, engineers, scholars and philanthropists, just because they raised their voices against injustice.

I very much wish for their fake ego to go to pieces, only then would they come to their senses. Pakistan is like that bully kid, who would go on terrorizing its mates, till it is brought down with force.

I see the root of all causes being “illiteracy”. One cannot expect Pakistani civilians to rise, when they have no idea about the rights they have to begin with. We need a true leadership, but having said that, it still is only a dream. True leadership comes out in a nation with true democracy, not a nation with messed up doctrines. The truth is I want more of Allama Iqbal’s visionary Pakistan, than Zia-ul-haq’s, Musharraf’s or Bhutto’s Pakistan. I dream and dream like a silly Pakistani, who nurtures the thoughts of a better, more civilized nation than the one existing.

This came up somewhere, when I was staring out the window. Any second, Earth, what we thrive upon, could collapse, implode, or explode. Maybe a nuclear holocaust, or an alien invasion could destroy everything. But what came to me as strikingly frightening was an all-out invasion.

No, not an extra terrestrial invasion, but an invasion from another COUNTRY.

Try this: You’re going to the kitchen to grab a late night snack and you hear noises outside. You stop what you’re doing and just stand there. Then you see, through the window or door, planes. Hundreds of planes zooming across the sky, paratroopers exiting from them to invade your country. The planes are blasting huge guns at what you call home, and invading soldiers executing your neighbors. And you expected a normal day.

Now, you hear footsteps outside your home. What do you do? Attempt to surrender? Grab a knife and go commando? Or run, grab the phone, and call 911, even though it’s already flooded with calls?

There’s almost nothing a citizen can do to defend themselves from an invasion on their homeland, or an alien invasion.

Think about this. Look outside and imagine a war zone — A killzone.

During his almost 8 year reign as the president of the People’s Republic of China, Hu Jintao has done wonders for the economy and the future for the nation. Despite all of the great things he has done for China, certain areas of his career as president, such as his foreign diplomatic efforts, until recently, and attention to his country’s environmental impacts, have been a bit lackluster. It seems as though Hu Jintao has begun the journey on the way of his job following the outline of a plan established years ago. Replacing him as President will presumably be Xi Jingping, the country’s current Vice President. Xi Jingping is ideologically similar to Hu Jintao, however, he has a much more extensive track record in the fields of economics and international relations, as well as the fact that physically he is much more intimidating. As well as his appearance, his deep military ties may also be quite intimidating.

Image via Wikipedia

Whenever Hu Jintao is replaced with Xi Jingping it will start a new era of everything when it comes to the way that the United States and China interact with each other. This new era could potentially be one of collaborations and peace, or it could very easily take us down a road of sour feelings leading to military actions. Jingping has the traits to lead us either way, with extensive ties to the military he would seemingly be a lot quicker to using it than presidents in recent past, but that has yet to be determined. But also with his extensive experience in business as well as diplomacy, there is a strong chance that he will utilize a relationship with the United States in order to benefit his own nation. In contemporary times, the Presidents of China have helped in small ways to improve relations between our two nations and we can only hope Jingping will continue this trend. Regardless of the outcome of his Presidency, it can be assumed that his actions will place a large role in the daily lives of Americans.

Key parts of the Manhattan Project.

When and How the Project Began

In 1939, scientists in Berlin, Germany began to realize what power atoms potentially held and the strength they could release. Scientists in the United States brought their fear of an atomic weapon to President Roosevelt and a small governmental group was created to research Uranium. Little funding was given but the Manhattan Project had officially started. During this time period, emotions and power struggles were going on in Europe and countries were on the brink of war. The Uranium committee needed more money to study isotope separation but funds were limited. “After a few months of research, the conclusion was made that Uranium-235 was needed and Uranium-238 would not be sufficient to make an atomic weapon.” (http://www.cfo.doe.gov/me70/manhattan/) Many tests were done trying to find the best way to separate the different forms of Uranium, the most successful way of separating the two was named, liquid thermal diffusion and was put into use during the summer of 1940. Roosevelt was pleased with these results and combined the researching group with the Nation Defense Research Committee (NDRC). Knowing it was only a matter of time before the United States entered the war, scientists pushed research knowing they needed to work fast if they wanted to impact the result of the war. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, President Roosevelt gave the go ahead to use research they had acquired and create an atomic bomb. At this point in time it was thought that two types of atomic bombs could be constructed, a uranium bomb and a plutonium bomb. Feeling confident the United States was leading the race to produce the first nuclear bombs, production of refined uranium and plutonium was going faster than ever. In December of 1942, $500 million dollars was put towards forwarding the project. As soon as 1943 diffusion and plutonium plants were being built, at that time the bombs were expected to be finished in the later part of 1945 but nobody could be sure. Another group was organized to develop a weapon design that was placed at Los Alamos, New Mexico. A simple design for the uranium bomb was going to be used while the plutonium bomb was harder to design. The war seemed to be coming to an end and the race to create both bombs was essential to ending the war in the Pacific.

Secrecy

Secrecy was key to the Manhattan Project. Top notch security, brilliant and trustworthy scientists and smart planning by the U.S government all aided in the success of the Manhattan Project. If Axis countries found out about the Manhattan Project the result could have been disastrous. The United States also tried keeping this newly found technology from the Soviet Union but was less successful at doing so. Evidently, atomic bomb programs had been started in both Germany and Japan but were not as advanced or heavily funded as the Manhattan Project was in the United States. Countless German spies were caught trying to find out more about the United States involvement with atomic energy, as were Japanese spies, both countries suspected the Allies were working on an atomic bomb but neither of them were positive. The Soviet Union was more successful at getting information, they had many spies with ties in America and people willing to help them get information such as members of the Communist party. If there was suspicion of a scientist or contributor that worked with the Manhattan Project they were dismissed and information about the top secret project was cut off completely.n Everyone involved was sworn to secrecy and not allowed to tell anyone outside of fellow workers with the same level of clearance including wives, husbands, children and family. This amount of security saved the project and was the key of the Manhattan Projects success.

What and Who the Bombs were Intended For

Originally the Manhattan Project was started in case America was in need of a defensive weapon or a weapon that was more powerful than anything the world had seen before. As soon as World War II started, people doing research and part of the Manhattan Project new this was more than likely going to be needed if the United States wanted to end the war in the Pacific. During the end of the War the possibility of using two atomic bombs on Japan became very plausible and likely. After being tested in New Mexico it was evident this new type of technology could devastate Japan and end the war in a matter of hours after exploding. The summer of 1945 was full of debate and controversy over whether using this amount of power was even relatively ethical. Test results showed the blast was even larger than expected and was the equivalent to insane amounts of TNT. No one had really known what kind of explosion would occur but some scientists were worried the entire state of New Mexico would be engulfed in flames. At this time the effects of radiation were not known and there wasn’t an accurate way of predicting the potential damage the bombs would cause outside of the blast radius. The Manhattan Project had achieved the goal, now it was a matter of time before being used. President Truman was notified of the test and then had to make the decision whether to use the technology and if this was the way he wanted to end the war.

Nagasaki and Hiroshima

After receiving word of successful tests and notification that the atomic bomb was ready to use Truman was faced with the dilemma of using them to end the war with Japan. He viewed the nuclear bomb as a method of warfare and he was going to using anything he could to end the war. The go ahead was given on July 25, 1945 and after opportunities to surrender the United States was ready to leave Japan in ruins. Many cities in Japan were possible targets, Hiroshima and Nagasaki were chosen due to weather conditions and important military centers. After August 3rd no further authorization was needed to drop atomic bombs on Japan, the United States would continue until the surrender of the Japanese. The uranium bomb, “Little Boy” was delivered in pieces and prepared to be dropped while “Fat Man” the plutonium bomb was delivered shortly after and prepped to be dropped. Hiroshima was the first target and was scheduled to be bombed on August 6, 1945, the plane delivering the atomic bomb was named Enola Gay after the pilot’s mother. Enola Gay and two other planes flew over Hiroshima but no alarm was called due to the fact Japan didn’t raise alarms for small squadrons of planes. “Little Boy” was dropped roughly “800 ft” off target and took less than a minute to reach it’s detonation height of “2000 ft” above the city. (www.cfo.doe.gov/me/manhattan/hiroshima.htm) Three days after the bombing at Hiroshima the second bomb was on course to be dropped after given opportunity to surrender. The attack was almost identical to the first, escorted by two other planes for scouting, photography and documentation. The bomb was dropped and took “43 seconds” before exploding less than “500 ft” above Nagasaki. (www.cfo.doe.gov/me/manhattan/hiroshima.htm) Both bombs left total destruction and annihilation for miles around the blast zone. The United States was prepared for more attacks on Japan if they were necessary.

Outcomes of the Manhattan Project

Before atomic warfare, incendiary bombs went off and the immediate damage occurred, then clean up began, this however was not the case with nuclear bombs. “Immediately after the bomb hit Hiroshima approximately 70,000 people were instantly killed or essentially vaporized by the temperatures created by the bomb its self, another 70,000 were injured but due to the fact the bomb wiped out the hospitals and the majority of doctors in Hiroshima many died from their injuries. Nagasaki had very similar results death tolls ranged any where from 30,000 to 70,000 people immediately killed but 80,000 total by the end of 1945.” (www.aasc.ucla.edu/cab/200708230009.html) Many survivors from Hiroshima made their way to Nagasaki where they were bombed again. After a few weeks or months we began to realize the affects radiation has on a human being, many people got cancer, radiation poisoning, and caused genetic birth defects in their offspring. By the end of 1945 approximately 200,000 people were killed because of the atomic bombing with countless wounded. Buildings were obliterated, the cities were almost erased off the earth, there was little to no trace of human life. Bodies close to the blast zone were incinerated, essentially their ashes were vaporized leaving no evidence of people ever being there. There have been reports of people seeing the flash of light and feeling the shock wave from the bombs miles away. The shock waves caused by the bombs tore peoples limbs off, caused injuries and permanent damage to structures. Destruction caused by “Little Boy” and “Fat Man” was horrific and devastated all of Japan, specifically their military. Ethics were questioned, even scientists involved in the program regretted being a factor in this amount of destruction. The Manhattan Project had a few positives such as modern day chemotherapy, and CAT scans. We also discovered leukemia is passed on to future offspring, these advancements in technology and medicine have saved many lives and continue to do so every day.

J. Robert Oppenheimer

Every major project needs a strong leader with experience, control and a passion for what they are doing. A scientist was needed for the project to succeed and the best man for the job at that time was J. Robert Oppenheimer. His nickname was Father of the Atomic Bomb, he was responsible for leading the team responsible for creating the atomic bomb. He attended Harvard and got a degree in chemistry before going to a university in Germany and earning a PhD in physics. When he arrived back in the United States he began teaching physics at the University of California. His strengths were leading groups of people while teaching, he was passionate about his research and work. In June 1942, Oppenheimer was made director of the Manhattan Project until the project ended in 1945. He spent months finding the most useful scientists in the United States and even enlisted scientists from other countries including help from Albert Einstein. He was very proud of his team and of the United States for accomplishing something as monumental as this. As soon as the bombs were dropped he and his team both realized what they had done by creating these bombs, they were essentially responsible for killing thousands of people and potentially millions of people in the future and were not as proud of themselves like they were before people began dieing.

Conclusion

Ever since the bombings in Japan nuclear power and weapons have been in the news and a part of everyday life. Energy from nuclear power plants powers about a sixth of the world’s energy and more and more plants are being under consideration for construction. During the Cold War Era nuclear missiles were being pointed at countries all around the world and the world barely avoided WWIII. An example of nuclear energy in the news would be the Chernobyl Disaster of 1986, where a nuclear power plant exploded in Ukraine causing death and destruction. What this group of scientists did in secrecy changed our world forever, whether people view atomic power good or bad is up to personal opinion but as a society we are responsible for how we use this great discovery, for good or bad. The outcomes of the Manhattan Project could possibly be the greatest achievement in the history of technology, chemistry and physics. Years were spent researching, countless tests done and billions of dollars were spent creating a tool that could potentially end the human race.

There are many sources of radiological material that terror groups might use. These radiological devices include dirty bombs and nuclear devices.

Introduction

The treat of terrorists using radiological devices within the United States is a probable event. It is not a question of if, but a question of when and how. Developing and employing nuclear weapons is a costly and timely development that would most likely be detected by the world arena and would be thwarted before employment is possible. Therefore terrorist organizations will most likely use more unconventional techniques such as attacks on U.S. nuclear reactors, dirty bombs, and the use of cargo ships. Since these techniques have not been employed before, it is difficult to properly assess the damage they might cause. One thing is for certain, these attacks will have a profound effect on the public perception of safety and security.

Nuclear Reactor Security and Attacks

Since 9/11 Civilian controlled reactor security has been a vital concern. Not only could an attack on a civilian reactor cause mass disruption with the loss of electrical power, a loss of public confidence but it could cause a loss of control of nuclear material and a loss of radiological containment.

Since 9/11 the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) passed numerous regulations on reactor security. According to 10 C.F.R 73 all commercial reactors are required to have a minimal three security zones and a trained security force. These three zones are divided into an owner controlled buffer zone, a protected area and a vital area. All employees have to be granted and cleared access based on the employee’s responsibilities. Moreover, this revision to reactor physical security plan expands the capabilities of reactor security personnel to be able to remove an employee’s access if the employee shows signs of being disgruntled or shows signs that he or she might compromise reactor security.

There is a vulnerability to air attack on civilian reactors. Reactors that have a low profile design have a lower risk threat than higher profile designed plant. However, we are making assumptions on the effects of an air attack to a civilian reactor since there has never been a successful attempt on one. The two civilian reactor incidents that have occurred; Three Mile Island and Chernobyl both occurred due to operator error and design flaws.

The NRC and Westinghouse are amending design of nuclear power plants to reflect the possible threat of an air attack. However, the chairman of the NRC, Nils Diaz stated that it would be close to impossible for a plane to crash into a reactor and cause a sustained fire unless “the attacking plane penetrated the containment completely, including its fuel bearing range” (Holt, CRS-6).

During a recent interview with personnel at the Millstone reactor plant in Connecticut, this containment plan was confirmed. Personnel at Millstone stated that they keep spent uranium 235 fuel (about 7-10% pure) in a concrete building in Horizontal Storage Units (HSU). The HSUs are shielded containers that are double hulled and welded shut. The fuel is also surrounded by lead neutralizing rods and boron. Boron is used also in the reactor core to control the amount of fission.

Dirty Bombs (likely hood and effects)

The effects of dirty bombs are vague and the outcomes depend on many factors. It depends on the type of radiological fuel that was used, the purity of the fuel, the amount of the fuel and the explosive fuel used. It also depends on environmental effects such as wind, rain, heat, wind, etc. A dirty bomb has never been ignited or set off in the world, therefore society can only estimate on the possible outcome.

In a recent article by Joseph Hattersley, Mr. Hattersley questions the effects on low dose radiation on the public health. Mr. Hattersley goes as far as to say low doses of radiation may actually be beneficial to the public health with the exception of first responders to the scene on the day of a dirty bomb explosion. “But after the first day, any remaining radiation from such a device may not be dangerous, and may well be beneficial” (Hattersley, pg 90). Mr. Hattersley states that the general science used to estimate the effects of a dirty bomb explosion is based on Linear-no threshold which is based on a single particle of radiation interacting with a single cell molecule in the body that can initiate cancer, then that is multiplied the number of initiating events. However, this science does not include and ignores the natural biological defenses that occur in the body in order to block radiation. “And a substantial body of evidence now indicates that low level radiation stimulates such biological defense mechanisms” (Hattersley, pg 90).

Hattersley’s assumptions while risky, does make sense when assessing the effects of a dirty bomb. A dirty bomb would not be able to produce gamma or neutron radiation (at least at a very low dosage) since the radioactive material would be blown apart from each other. The majority of the radiation would be alpha and beta radiation. Alpha radiation is blocked by the human skin but can cause the most damage to the human body if it is inhaled, injected or enters through an open wound. Beta radiation can be blocked by a simple piece of paper. Both alpha and beta radiation does not travel very far.

Naval Security

Perhaps one of the most porous American borders face is America’s maritime borders. Not only do Americans have to secure the country’s east coast on the Atlantic and the western coast on the pacific, but the military has to secure the coasts off Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, Puerto Rico, and other US territories. The US Navy also maintains security on US international corporations throughout the world. Even with the world’s largest Navy and largest Coast Guard, the US Naval forces cannot monitor the entire coast and intercept all cargo ships incoming to US territories.

Under current international maritime law, the US Navy cannot board and search a vessel flying a foreign flag. It would be considered an act of war for naval forces to board a foreign vessel in international waters. There are actually only four times that we can board a foreign vessel:

1. Within 12 miles of US borders can the Coast Guard board and inspect.

2. If there is a bilateral or multilateral agreement with the country that the ship is claiming (flag being flown, not the owner of the ship).

3. If the ship is not flying any flag and not claiming any nationality.

4. Safety or emergency search to safe life.

Since 9/11 the United Nations has passed maritime resolution requiring merchant

ships to transmit continuously while underway on the Automated Information Systems (AIS). The AIS transmits on high frequency with information about the ship’s name, the captain, the destination, course, speed, company, and other information. It is a self programmed system and is required to be updated as the ship’s situation changes. The large benefit of the AIS system is that it indicates if a ship is doing something different than what they say they are going to do. For instance a ship transmitting that they are transiting from Lisbon to New York yet they are travelling on course 090 (east).
This would create a red flag with the navy that something is not right with this ship and they should closely monitor it and perhaps notify the differences.

Even with these safeguards in maritime safety, since the 12 mile has not been extended for coastal security (there is a 200 mile economic exclusion zone, but that only applies for fishing, minerals and mining, etc.) America’s maritime borders are not secure. A Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) ship could leave the port of Lisbon for New York. This ship could be transmitting all information on the AIS correctly and not fall suspect of any illegal activity by the US Navy. At the same time a ship with a nuclear device could leave Sal Paulo, Brazil for Lisbon. These two ships could meet in the Mid-Atlantic and transfer the nuclear payload to the LNG container ship. If the US Navy detects the short rendezvous with the two ships, the US navy would need to get permission from the State Department to board the LNG ship which now has the nuclear device. If the navy does not detect the rendezvous (which is most likely the case because who would transfer anything with a Spruance destroyer off the port bow), it would now be up the Coast Guard to board and inspect the LNG ship. However, there is still nothing to suspect the LNG ship has a nuclear device, so the Coast Guard will not inspect.

If the Coast Guard does want to do a random inspection on this LNG ship, they would wait until the 12 mile coastal limit. If the LNG ship is doing 30 knots, then that would give the Coast Guard only 2 hours to board, detect and stop the LNG ship and nuclear device.

That is just one likely scenario concerning a LNG container ship and a dirty or nuclear bomb within a US port. According to Parfomak and Frittelli Al-Qaeda has stated that they are interested in maritime bombing at key maritime shipping routes that can seriously hinder world shipping. For instance bombing a cargo ship in the Straits of Gibraltar or Straits of Malacca would be devastating to world commerce. Blowing up a ship within the Panama Canal would damage canal locks and would devastate US commerce. Sinking ships in the Straits of Humuz would secure access to the Persian Gulf. Sinking a ship in the Suez Canal would require US Atlantic naval vessels to transverse Africa to go the Persian Gulf adding another week of travel. Pacific naval vessels would use the Straits of Malacca which could easily be blocked with a sunken ship. A nuclear detonation on a ship in these locations could make a canal unusable for many years.

Conclusion

Any attack on US soil would be devastating to US perception of safety and security. I would make US citizens question their government officials, the government infrastructure, port security and power infrastructure. This public reaction would be amplified if a radiological attack occurred. Even though the effects of a radiological accent may not have civilian causalities and severity as some conventional attacks, the general public mentality would be affected deeply. An attack on a conventional power station such as the Wolf Creek Dam could cause the death of millions of people in Tennessee, while an air attack on Millstone Nuclear Power Plant in Connecticut might only cause the deaths of hundreds of people. Yet the scare of nuclear contamination, even in a low dosage which might be beneficial, would create a public scare frenzy. The same is true for an ignition of a dirty bomb in a public highly populated area.

The biggest threat to the US population is through maritime shipping. It is very easy for terrorists to ship radiological material (or other CBRN weapons) into a US port. The device does not have to be a dirty bomb; the shipping container may actually contain a fully operational gun ignition style nuclear bomb (if the group was able to design one without detection). Once this is in a US port, the terrorists could ignite it without detection.

Overall maritime law needs to be revised in international law. The 12 mile limit needs to be placed out further allowing the Coast Guard the ability to board and search ships at a safer distance to US soil. Moreover intelligence sharing needs to happen at a much quicker means between US government agencies. If the US Navy detects suspicious activity with a vessel, the information needs to be rapidly transferred to Coast Guard units. Finally Coast Guard units need up to date radiological detection equipment and British style S.E.S terrorist fighting unit to be used when boarding large container ships that may have terrorists on board.

Exactly what it says on the tin. Specifically for those who don't know the meaning of the word "moral"

So the other day I overheard some guy saying we should destroy the entire middle eastern region with nuclear weapons. Like many sensible people, I am sick of hearing people say stuff like this, so I walked up to him and explained exactly why we don’t. Of course at the time I didn’t have long and my facts weren’t all available, so this article will be much more in-depth than my first explaination.

Of course, we all know the main reason America has only used atomic bombs once: hundreds of thousands of civilian casualties. Just two very primitive atom bombs caused an estimated 200,000 deaths, and technology has been advancing like mad in the 65 years since that catastrope.

But this article is for the benefit of those who are so messed up that they don’t care. The simple reason to give such people is that we wouldn’t survive that. They call America the world’s only superpower, but that really doesn’t mean much if every country on the face of the planet sees us as a threat. There would be no chance.

And now for the details I promised. The nuclear bomb that America currently has the most of is called the B61, a bomb that can be adjusted to various outputs. The average yield for one is 60 kilotons.

Right now the United States of America has 5113 nuclear weapons that are functional, if not useable at the push of a button. The majority have a yield close to that of the B61, although warheads used by ICBMs and submarines tend to be closer to 400 kilotons. These warheads are easier to intercept though.

At this point I decided to cheat and use this convenient blast radius calculator.

By putting “60″ into the text box and moving the camera to Detroit since I know nothing of the geography of New York, I get a few red circles depicting the progress of the detonation wave from a mid-yield B61. Everything within about a 1km will be destroyed almost for sure. People will die en masse out to a range of roughly 5km. Lesser damage will be caused further out, but won’t cause as many casualties. Then there would be fallout carried on the wind, but fallout doesn’t have much effect until some time has passed so I won’t be considering it. I personally am out of immediate danger from a nuclear attack on Detroit at this yield.

In fact even the maximum 170 kiloton yield would result in a radius of just 7km.

In order to find the damage this would do to the middle east I had to switch to regular Google Maps. I decided that the highest-priority target would be, in short, Tehran, the capital of Iran. This city is several miles across so I took a screenshot of the city and used GIMP to plot out how many B61s would be required to, er, mostly destroy it.

As you can see it would take nearly 20 of these bombs and there would still be a large portion of suburb left mostly intact.

Comparing the city of Tehran to the entire region should put to rest the ridiculous claim that any country can be simply bombed out of existence. We could in theory, but then we would be somewat short on nukes. Which would shortly become a problem…

After seeing this unrestricted, unwarranted, genocidal nuclear attack, other countries would panic and declare war on the U.S., perhaps even former allies. Like I said, they would destroy America, attacking from all sides, and quite possibly with nuclear weapons.

More importantly, there are a lot of national parks in the Tehran area. Their destruction/conamination will add tree huggers and animal rights activists to the humanitarians, middle eastern immigrants, other muslims, and general angry people that will riot across the country and lynch the guy who was stupid enough to order this course of action in the first place.

I’m sure most of you already knew that.

How the Cold War and Space race changed humanity.

During the Cold War the meaning of manifest destiny was redefined when the United States and the Soviet Union battled to accomplish different feats and maneuvers first in space. Because of modern advancements, two countries, the Soviet Union and the United States, raced their way into space and to the moon between the late 1950s and 1970s. The Soviets launched their first man-made satellite Sputnik 1 in 1957 and the United States replied by launching their first satellite in January, 1958. Soviets sent dogs above the atmosphere in 1957. The United States sent up a squirrel monkey in December, 1958. Throughout the 1960s the United States and Soviet Union used the satellite technology to develop and deploy military forces that primarily used intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and SLBMs (submarine-launched). These missiles were equipped with nuclear warheads. Soviet’s first person propelled into space was in April, 1961. The United States sent their first astronaut into space in February, 1962. With sights set on the moon, programs like Gemini, by the United States, and Soyuz, by the Soviet Union, tested maneuver procedures and new technologies needed to get to the moon. On the venture to the moon the United States finally managed to surpass the Soviet Union and triumph with the Apollo missions. The Soviet Union, giving up on the moon, turned to space stations acknowledging the United States finally won the space race. Even thought the United States did gain the lead near the end of the race to the moon, for ten years the Soviet Union seemed to always be ahead of the United States.

The Soviet Union shocked the United States when they launched a man-made satellite into space. In October, 1957, the Soviet Union had launched Sputnik 1, the first man-made object to orbit Earth (“Historic” 2). The United States in January, 1958, launched their satellite Explorer 1; it orbited the earth a few times more than the Soviet satellite (“Historic” 2). The launching of the Soviet satellite was such a shock because it “stoked the US public’s fears that the United States was falling behind the Soviet Union in technological prowess” (“Historic” 2). These satellites granted access to anywhere on the globe for the Soviet Union and the United States. Man-made objects breached the barrier of earth and space, man himself would follow.

Before Cosmonauts and Astronauts could be sent into orbit or even into the realms of space, scientists needed to construct and test ways that would enable life to survive outside Earth’s atmosphere. The next step in the long process of exploring space was to test the effects of weightlessness on life forms; the Soviet Union sent up dogs and the United States sent up monkeys (“1959” 2). “On 3 November, 1957 the Russians sent Laika, a Siberian husky, into orbit, but days into the flight the dog died.” (“1959” 2). The Soviet Union tested even more animals “between 1957 and 1961[;] thirteen dogs were sent into space, five of whom died” (“1959” 2). Space was not meant for life to exist in it; man needed copious reassurance that the harshness could be subdued and was safe to venture into. While the Soviet Union and the United States competed to sustain life in space, on Earth they also clashed in the development of nuclear prowess.

During the Cold War, satellites brought a new age of warfare: Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles. Both the United States and the Soviet Union created strategic forces that primarily relied on ICBMs and SLBMs (sub launched) which were armed with nuclear warheads (Bruccoli & Layman 193). So many of these units had been made that “by the end of the decade the United States and the Soviet Union had each stockpiled enough nuclear weapons to destroy one another-and the entire world several times over” (Bruccoli & Layman 193). The availability of nuclear weapons combined with long range missiles was a devastating power. Oddly this power was recognized to be so terrible it brought about a policy of deterrence, effectively preventing countries from using ICMBs. The essence of the cold war was in full view.

In the early 1960s innovation of airtight capsules progressed and humans were safely launched into orbit. The Soviet Union shocked the United States again when they launched their first Cosmonaut, Yuri Gagarin, in April, 1961; he had completed one full orbit and the Soviets were ecstatic (“Historic” 1). After the flight of Gagarin the “Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev had declared: “Let the capitalist counties try to catch up with our country, which has blazed a trail into space and which has launched the world”s first Cosmonaut’” (“Historic” 2). The first manned orbital flight of the United States was achieved February, 1962, by the Astronaut John Glen, who circled Earth three times in his capsule Friendship 7 (“Historic” 2). June, 1963, Valentina V. Tereshkova of the Soviet Union became the first woman in space (“Historic” 2). The first woman of the United States was Sally Ride in 1983; twenty years after Valentina V. Tereshkova (“Historic” 2). Mankind having made its way into space raised its expectations to the next target.

A month after the first man was sent into space, President John F. Kennedy on May, 1961, announced a dubious but feasible goal of getting a man to the moon and back by the end of the 1960s. The Gemini space program was designed by the United States to develop new technology and the skills needed for a lunar mission (“Historic” 3). This included fuel cells for electrical power and the process of orbital docking between crafts (“Historic” 3). Parallelig Gemini, the Soyuz missions were the Soviet Union’s program that tested technology needed for lunar voyages (Bruccoli & Layman 476). During this period, space walking was tried by Aleksei Leonov of the Soviet Union in March, 1965 and by Major Edward White of the United States Air Force in June 1965. Because both men nearly died in the experiments, Space suits were heavily redesigned (“Historic” 3). “The way to the moon had been paved. Men could safely walk in space, docking had been achieved, and maneuvering the spacecraft had all been completed” (Bruccoli & Layman 474). Starting in 1965, all of the Gemini achievements were accomplished in two years.

The Apollo missions were where the United States finally got ahead of the Soviet Union. Apollo missions tested the Saturn rocket, orbited the moon, and launched soft landing probes which helped determine where to land on the moon (“Historic” 3). These missions were not without problems. The first Apollo/Saturn 204 mission in January 1967, was marked with tragedy because fire broke out on the launch pad while tests were being preformed; the three crewmembers were killed (“Space Disasters” 1). The crewmembers were Edward White, Virgil Grissom, and Roger Chaffee (“Historic” 3). Apollo 13 also experienced problems in space but returned to Earth without loss of life Space Disasters” 1). Progress toward the moon leapt when Apollo 8 was the first manned mission to complete a lunar orbit. The sensational accomplishment of the Apollo missions was Apollo 11; it was the first landing of men on the moon. “Following their two-and-a-half hour moon walk, Armstrong and Aldrin Blasted off from the moon on July 21, leaving behind a US flag and a plaque bearing the inscription: “Here men from the planet Earth set foot upon the moon, July 1969 AD, We came in peace for all mankind”” (“Historic” 4). The citizens of the United States were glued to their televisions and a surge of pride swept the country.

Having lost the race to the moon, the Soviet Union transitioned their space program to other endeavors in space. The Soviets became quite good at building space stations (“Space Disasters” 2). They did have problems occur though. “The second crew of the first space station, Salyut 1, was launched aboard Soyuz 11 on June 6, 1971. After a problem aboard Salyut 1 shortened the trip from thirty days to twenty-four days, the crew attempted to return home. They never made it alive” (“Space Disasters” 2). The Soviet Union found a more economical presence in space with the use of space stations. The easing of Cold War Tensions brought a cooperative venture between the United States and the Former Soviet Socialist Republics in space-station scientific investigations. This was the first time since the end of World War II that the US was cooperating with Soviets.

The ability to travel is space brought about the mind-set that humans would eventually populate space. The US and USSR had already sent instrumented probes to explore the inner system of planets by 1960 (Edson 2). As Edson suggested that “soon after men conquered the moon, they will ride out to explore this wider realm” (2), he was promoting this new vision of colonizing planets. “Perhaps, as men have today broken the chains of gravity, in that great tomorrow our children will somehow break the barriers of time and distance, so that humanity will move freely among the stars” (Edson 4). In this time period mankind is allowed to stay optimistic about what the future will enable our species to do, but, also has to realize its present limitations. Pushing through these barriers is the propelling aspect of manifest destiny.

During the late 1800’s America experienced manifest destiny as colonist moved through and settled the rest of the North American continent. The westward expansion of the United States and the Cold War were similar because in both cases Americans pushed into unclaimed land in hopes to prosper from the resources that are found on it. In both cases the psyche of the American spirit was defined by the experience. The race to the moon was how humans were able to enter this new unconquered realm of our solar system and beyond. Humans had sent man-made objects into orbit. Satellites brought forth communications across the globe and advanced targeting for long-range missiles. Life emerged from earth into an area thought to have none, as animals and people rocketed into space. Man then set his imagination on the moon while project Gemini tested new technology to make the trip possible. The Apollo missions took him to the moon and back so that man could stretch his possible grasp further and further. Mankind meanwhile has many more important issues to be concern with here on Earth. The space race did have a positive effect on earthbound life with the new technologies it developed that are now an essential part of our lives: computers, lasers, satellite communications, solar panels, and robotics. The impulse of controlling land beyond Earth will wait for a definite calling; when mankind decides spending trillions of dollars to expand its territory will be beneficial and worthwhile.
