Every person who is sane would be using the mirrors to look at the reflections to see how they would look in front of others, or to get the perspective of how others see them. People can learn quite a few lessons from mirrors, if they intellectually observe them.

1. Show As Is:

Mirrors are designed to show what comes in front of them, as they are, unless they are made to be a concave or convex mirror to get the desired images. By being selfless and speaking from heart, one would gain lots of respect from others.

2. No Hidden Intentions:

Most people speak what they think others want to listen from them and do not speak what is there in their minds, thereby hiding their true intentions. While it is okay for some professions such as customer care, where one has to conceal their sadness and come out with a smile while serving, it is not good when the intentions that are pushed under the rugs are malicious.

3. Reflect Life:

Mirrors reflect what life offers to them, which could be anything from dirt that settles on them to the huge buildings and trees that are in front of them. However, they do not analyze what the contents are, which is good in terms of going to meet a person or a new arena with an open mind which does not carry any prejudice.

4. Self-Defects:

The person who has a cracked mirror would know that they would not get a proper image out of it. While they realize that it is the mirror’s fault and not the image’s, it is necessary to understand that most of our perceptions are a result of our preconceived notions and not what others do! How can a person be calm if being scolded for coming late by the boss and yell back if their spouse tells them that they are late!

5. Never Carry Junk:

The mirrors show the images of the objects, until they are in front of them. Once the object goes out of sight, the mirror would focus on reflecting the next object. Similarly, the persons should focus on the current affairs and should never carry their pains or agonies from their dark past.

6. Move On:

Once the objects moves out of the line of sight of the mirror, the mirror is busy in reflecting the next scene. Similarly, it is necessary that the person moves on in their lives, without worrying about the past or future!

7. Everybody’s Welcome:

Only a very few objects and persons are able to be warm to everyone and comfortable with everybody without any partiality and mirrors would top that list. While it is important to reflect to others’ thoughts, one has to be nice and wise in putting across their opinions.

8. Background is Important:

Without the mercury surface on the backside of the mirror, the reflections would not be possible. Therefore, even though one races into the future, it is necessary to respect their roots, be it mother tongue, nationality or even their faith systems. It is good to appreciate other elements in society without putting down their own!

9. Shatter, Still Perform:

Break a mirror into 100 tiny pieces and each one would reflect what they can. Similarly, life may come hard into us, but it is crucial to make sure to do what it takes and go that extra mile to help others.

10. Sand Grains to Smooth Glass:

Walk on the beach with bare feed and the grains of sand would cause itching and are very coarse. They even enter into the toe nails to cause irritation to septic infections. However, with the right processes, the same sand grains would become smooth glass materials and therefore it is necessary that the person is flexible to undergo through the tough times of life, with the belief that they are meant to make their life shining and smooth in future.

With some lessons learnt and many more that are hidden under the surface of the mirrors, one can have better quality of life.

Learning a foreign language can be tough and time consuming. When you have very little time, then teaching yourself can be the best option. The following article will talk about how to do it.

How to Teach Yourself a Foreign Language

I taught myself Spanish, using various methods and courses I created a method for language learning that can be used by anybody. The following method requires constant reinforcement, when you’re out and about you need to be constantly associating new words with their objects in a variety of differing forms. This is what creates the versatile nature you will need in order to master the language.

1. Make sure you watch television or films in that language, even if you understand nothing you are getting an ear for the language and hearing the sounds of the language. Your brain will take the language and will listen to its fluctuations and intonations and make it easier for you to pronounce words.

2. You need to find a good course, I highly recommend my first course: linguaphone All talk. This is widely available in many different languages including French, Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, Italian, German and quite a few others. I found this course really good, because it associated the Spanish I was learning with things in every day life and real situations. I really made a great deal of progress with the Linguaphone course.

3. You need to gain a grounding in the language, it needs to be everything for you. You need to be able to speak it and understand everything in the language and objects and not as English words. This is a mistake that many people make. Go around your house and use a dictionary to identify things in the house in your chosen language. Now you need to associate these words with these objects. A great course, yet exceptionally expensive, that teaches lingual associaton is the Rosetta Stone language course which is well worth a look for any very ambitious person.

4. Make sure you communicate, you can’t just learn. You need to take everything together and continue to watch films and TV. Speak to anyone in your chosen language who speaks it and take every opportunity to practice, never be afraid to go wrong as it is always the mistakes that we make that we really remember.

I hope that this article has been of help to you, learning a language isn’t easy but you need to associate the language with your world and become fully immersed in it. Most of all enjoy it! If you’re teaching yourself then you’re a true linguist.

Lucky objects in Feng Shui are symbols of good fortune, but not only in monetary terms. In Feng Shui, lucky objects are used to attract positive Chi energy and deflect negative Chi energy, to bring harmony to any space.

According to Feng Shui, when harmony prevails, all aspects of good fortune manifests: health, wealth and happiness. Lucky objects are beneficial to have, but knowing where and how to place them is even more beneficial.

There are many lucky objects that can be used to attract positive Chi energy and deflect negative Chi energy. Following are examples of some well known lucky objects used in Feng Shui and where and how to place them for most benefit.

DRAGON

The dragon is regarded as the most auspicious symbol of good fortune. It signifies the power of authority. Place it so that it does not look like it is heading towards a door or window.

PHOENIX

The phoenix is a symbol of renewal. It brings opportunities, fame and recognition. Place it so that it is not flying towards a door.

TURTLE

A turtle symbolizes longevity and constancy but as they are slow moving creatures they are not considered suitable for a work environment.

TIGER

A tiger represents bravery and strength. It is best placed in a den or an office. It should not look like it is ready to pounce or have its mouth open.

HORSE

The horse symbolizes power and movement. It is often used by people who would like to travel. It should not look like it is heading for a door or window.

ELEPHANT

Elephants should always have their trunks turned upward, as if trumpeting, to herald good news. They can be placed in the entrance hall, but not directly facing the door.

FORTUNE FROG

The frog (actually a three-legged toad) holds a coin in its mouth and has strings of coins around its feet. It should be placed facing the door to catch the money of passers-by or near a cash register.

LAUGHING BUDDHA

This is a symbol of prosperity and joy. He is usually prominently placed in the living room, dining room or family hall.

AQUARIUM

An aquarium is considered lucky and can bring prosperity into the house. Place your aquarium in areas of your house or room that require activity. Fish can also absorb negative Chi, particularly the Blackmoor variety, which is very sensitive.

Analysing a dream is a fascinating process which can reveal much about ourselves and our relationships. The first step in interpreting a dream is to understand the factors and influences which surround it.

Dreams help us to understand more about ourselves. The key to interpreting dreams is to understand the factors which influence dreams and examine the details. Everything in a dream has meaning.

The information relayed in dreams is a combination of several factors and influences. The most common factors and influences are family, home, friends and work. Other contributing factors and influences include; personal desires, hopes, fears and aspirations. These are known as dream ‘sources’.

The next major influence on dreams is society. The factors included in society consist of traditions, customs, ethics, values and principles, by which society operates. These are often condensed into the phrase – cultural identity. Cultural identity contributes greatly to the influence of dreams.

Finally, in the list of factors and influences, there are dream images and theme’s common to everyone. These include natural urges and instincts; the various stages of life, such as childhood, puberty, old age; and the simple needs and wants that are basic to everyone, such as love, security and sex. Factors such as these are all natural influences.

The details in dreams are often unique and varied. However, understanding the factors and influences involved in dreams enables a better understanding and easier interpretation:-

Theme / Time

What was the general plot of the dream? Was it about a house, being chased, flying, a journey, teeth falling out, falling, or snakes? The time we have the dream can also indicate how relevant the dream is to the everyday world. Dreaming close to waking, indicates events holding a stronger connection to waking life.

Action / Involvement

What happened? Where did it happen? Is it a place you are familiar with? This can give clues about personal insecurity, or issues about childhood or present circumstances. Were you a participant in the dream? Or were you viewing it from a distance? This relates to how intimately you are involved in the dream, in the real world.

Atmosphere / Environment

Was it light and spacious, or dark and claustrophobic? Was it a frightening dream, or an enlightening dream? Where did the dream take place? Was it on land, or at sea? Water represents emotions, and land represents money and self worth. Air relates to the intellect, while being underground relates to searching for lost treasure.

Characters / Objects

Did you recognise anyone in the dream, or were they strangers? They may have been family members, friends or work colleagues. The qualities of the characters are often clues to the qualities you would like to develop. Objects also represent a quality. For example, an object that symbolises a parental figure, indicates the qualities of authority, nurturing and guidance.

Animals

Did an animal remind you of anyone you know? Often animals stand as representatives for a situation or person. Your boss may be coded as a bear, reflecting that you feel threatened. In this way, our subconscious can explore our true feelings about a person or event without being influenced by our conscious and logical mind.

Colour / Mood

What were the colours of certain objects in your dream? If your dream was of apples; were they green (unripe), or red, (ripe)? The brightness or dullness of the colour also indicates the general mood of your dream.

The imagery in your dreams can be either interpreted literally, where information has a direct parallel to everyday life, or symbolically, where information is coded in an unusual way. For example, dreaming of free-flying, often represents freedom and release from the daily grind, rather than literally being able to fly.

A university application question, this was my response.

To know is to possess knowledge or have a clear and certain perception of an object or concept. Nothing in this world that has been defined by mankind is perfect, and we can never know something for certain. The word “know” should be expunged for that particular reason. There is always a margin of error, flaws in theories and contradictory statements that negate one another. The concept of knowing something is an infinite cycle of thought, and we are wasting time trying to find answers to an infinite amount of questions. We were placed into this world blind and determined to figure out the meaning of life. As time progressed, we began to define “objects” we perceived to be important for self-preservation, when ultimately these objects are nothing but coloured structures. We also created symbols to communicate, but due to the way people think through finite concepts, it is not possible to comprehend the infinite. For example, “words” are merely symbols created by us to better comprehend our feelings and ideas. When one says “I know how you feel”, they do not actually know how you feel because it is relatively impossible to fully understand what someone is thinking or how they are feeling without being the person yourself. What we know is a direct result of how we think, and how we think is constantly changing and expanding. However, the way we think is so heavily tainted by censorship, propaganda, and judgment that what we seem to know can never be proven to be certain.

How does our cultural affect our memory?

“Memory is the diary that we all carry about”

                                                 -Oscar Wilde

Memory is something that everyone relies on. These memories enable us to walk, read, and love. Memory is something that most of us take for granted. Is it possible that people’s memory will be changed by the cultural they are raised in? Yes, a person’s memory will be changed by the cultural around them, using objects, photos, and family relationships.

The term ‘cultural memory’ was a term coined by the German Jan Assmann. It was a theory that stemmed from another sociologist’s theory of ‘collective memory’. Maurice Halbwach termed ‘collective memory’ to name a community’s ability to remember certain events. ‘Cultural memory’ is basically how individual memory relates to the cultural around a person.

Memory can be found in objects. Look around you, and you’ll probably find some sort of gift or souvenir that contains a memory or two. Right here on my desk I have a tile I was given on a cruise I went on with my extended family. This memory object represents family. But to someone else, it might represent adventure, money, or nothing at all. Some published authors believe that in modern times objects have lost ‘memory value’. A hundred years ago, a doll cost a lot and usually had a special meaning to it. Nowadays, dolls can be found at the dollar store and contains no significance at all.

How are we to determine the value of memories in objects? That doll found at Dollar Tree could be tossed aside in America as a ‘piece of junk’. But if someone bought that doll and mailed it to a little girl in Sudan, would it be worth anymore? Not literally, if you are looking purely at the finances involved. But to that Sudanese girl, the memories with that doll are worth so much more than the doll itself.

A similar story is found in photography. This is the most modern form of memories. Anymore you can photos using your camera, phone, or computer. And those photos can be instantly printed, saved, or uploaded to Facebook. Photos bring back exact memories from special instances. For example, I have a picture of me and my little brother on my wall at a formal dinner. Within that picture, I can remember specific details such as what we were talking about that night, what I ate, and where we were. Some experts believe that pictures replace memories as we grow older. In other cultural, photographs could have a completely different meaning. One such cultural is the Amish cultural in America. To the Amish people, photographs are a form of self-worship and vanity, and they shun any form of photography of themselves.

In some homes in America, you can find a painting of Jesus hanging on the wall. Most of the time it is purely decoration, or a way to subtly show that the people who reside in that home are Christians. However, in Indian houses there are pictures of the gods. The family will pray to these pictures and ask for different things. The pictures in an Indian house are a memory of their religious practices.

The biggest way our memory is shaped is by our family relationships. Family situations vary based on cultural. If you ask an American what is his earliest memory is, you should expect that is will be sometime around 3 ½ years of age. However, a Maori (New Zealand native) has an average memory of 2 ½ years. A Korean though might not remember anything before age four. Of course is this a wide estimate, but researchers have found that first memories can vary up to two years between different cultures.

Why? According to Michelle Leichtman, PhD, a psychologist at the University of New Hampshire, it has to do with the way societies treat their family history. In America, society focuses on personal history. Maori focus on personal family history. Culturals like this will have more childhood memories than those who grew up in Asians cultures that focus mostly on independence. Another factor is how mother’s talk about the past. In families where the mother talk about the child’s past and encourage talking about daily events, there is a higher rate of memory retention. Other situations where the mother does not talk about the past much, there is a lower memory retention. Leichtman does not mean that one cultural has a better memory than another cultural, but one might have a more detailed childhood memory than another.

Here in America, a person’s memory can vary greatly from someone’s memory in Japan. Some of it has to do with the way that a person views objects and photographs, but a lot of it has to do with the way a person is raised in their childhood.

“Memory is a child walking along the seashore. You never can tell what small pebble it will pick up and store away among its treasured things.”

Is all that unnecessary stress really worth it?

Is all the unnecessary stress you get from your job really worth it?

You could easily live off of a simple job, but we usually get the best jobs we can so we afford that flatscreen tv, or that really fast car, or whatever else it is we may please, but do we NEED those things? No. We could easily live without them, but we chose to put that extra stress on ourselves just so we can get them.

Whats the point of all these material objects if we’ll only be able to enjoy them for a short while?

What I’m trying to say is, when we die, all those material objects we worked will be gone. I don’t care what you believe in, whether you’re a Christian, or a Buddhist, or an Atheist, you have to agree that those objects will be gone when we die, and what happens then? All the time you spent working for these objects when you could have been having fun, or hanging out with friends will have gone to waste.

So basically the whole point of this article, or whatever you want to call it, is that you should spend as much time having fun and being happy rather than working, and stressing yourself for material objects which you’re going to lose anyways when you die.

A guide to helping you determine if things are real or fake.

Often times you are stuck noticing an object or something else that you are unable to determine whether it is fake or real. You must think of many things before you know for a fact if the thing you just saw is real or fake. Is that purse really brand name or fake? Is that video real or fake? Is that picture really real, or was it drawn, edited, or animated?

Pay attention to:

Colors

If the colors do not correspond with what the object should really look like, it is usually fake.

Texture

A real brand name purse may feel smooth, while a fake one may feel hard and rough.

Smell

Real leather will have a distinguished smell, which fake leather will not.

Price

Obviously if they got the object way cheaper than it was supposed to be, they were either really lucky, it was used/ damaged, or it’s fake.

Size

If it is much bigger or smaller than it should be, it is definitely fake.

If you are unsure what the real object should look like, check online for the characteristics of the object, then compare.

If it is in a video or picture you can only visually see if it is fake, which is much harder. You can visually see at times the texture of an object. You can easily compare colors and size too. It may look real, but you must face reality, such as a ghost in a picture is probably fake, but an apple falling from an apple tree is not.
