New research finds high fructose consumption affects the brain, learning and memory in short time.

If drinking and eating a lot of sodas, candy and other high fructose-laden junk food doesn’t elicit warnings aplenty, now comes new research to say that stuffing yourself on soda and sweets for as little as six weeks may make you stupid. Duh?

New research has shown how a diet laden with high fructose corn syrup slows the brain, hampering memory and learning. But, here’s the good news; consuming omega-3 fatty acids can counteract your plunge into stupidity.

“Eating a high-fructose diet over the long term alters your brain’s ability to learn and remember information. But adding omega-3 fatty acids to your meals can help minimize the damage,” say the researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles.

The high fructose corn syrup the researchers studied is the common kind typically found in processed foods, including soft drinks, condiments, applesauce and even baby food. The average American consumes roughly 47 pounds of cane sugar and 35 pounds of high-fructose corn syrup per year, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Used As Additive in Foods

The researchers pointed out that they were less concerned about naturally occurring fructose in fruits, which also contain important antioxidants, but were more concerned about the fructose in high-fructose corn syrup, which is added to manufactured food products as a sweetener and preservative.

To prove their theory, the researchers studied two groups of rats that each consumed a fructose solution as drinking water for six weeks. The second group also received omega-3 fatty acids in the form of flaxseed oil and DHA, which protects against damage to the synapses — the chemical connections between brain cells that enable memory and learning.

The animals were fed standard rat chow and trained on a maze twice daily for five days before starting the experimental diet. The researchers tested how well the rats were able to navigate the maze, which contained numerous holes but only one exit. The scientists placed visual landmarks in the maze to help the rats learn and remember the way.

Six weeks later, the researchers tested the rat’ ability to recall the route and escape the maze. What they saw surprised them.

Learning and Memory Impaired

The second group of rats navigated the maze much faster than the rats that did not receive omega-3 fatty acids. The DHA-deprived animals were slower, and their brains showed a decline in synaptic activity. Their brain cells had trouble signaling each other, disrupting the rats’ ability to think clearly and recall the route they’d learned six weeks earlier.

The DHA-deprived rats also developed signs of resistance to insulin, a hormone that controls blood sugar and regulates synaptic function in the brain. A closer look at the rats’ brain tissue suggested that insulin had lost much of its power to influence the brain cells. Because insulin can penetrate the blood–brain barrier, the hormone may signal neurons to trigger reactions that disrupt learning and cause memory loss, say the researchers

The scientists concluded that eating too much fructose could block insulin’s ability to regulate how cells use and store sugar for the energy required for processing thoughts and emotions. They said their study showed that a high-fructose diet harms the brain as well as the body. They advise people to keep fructose intake to a minimum and swap sugary desserts for fresh berries and Greek yogurt. And when you do eat foods with larger amounts of high fructose corn syrup as an ingredient, balance it with foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, like salmon, walnuts and flaxseeds, or take a daily DHA capsule.

This is individual good sense why you be supposed to limit your intake of sugars. A most recent examination scientists in the United States indicated with the purpose of consumption too much darling can chip away at the talent of the brain. This conclusion was made behind researchers on the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) conducted laboratory tests on rats fed a diet high-level in fructose corn syrup in place of six weeks.

Here his analysis researchers not speaking the mice into two groups. One company of mice were particular supplements of the brain with the purpose of is enriched in omega-3 greasy acids in flaxseed grease and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), while the other company did not.

Before it was particular a drink of darling, the mice were skilled in place of five days to complete the puzzle game (maze), a game to person it prevented. After six weeks particular a sugary drink, the mice were again asked to engage in recreation maze, to guarantee how far they are able to solve it.

“The decline in brain function in animals fed omega 3 and DHA be liable to be brake, even though their brains showed a decrease in synaptic hobby,” believed Fernando Gomez-Pinilla, a neurosurgery professor of the David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA.

“These cells comprise hurdle rat brain signals to all other, disrupting the talent of rats to thinking and demanding to remember the route behind being particular a diet high-level in darling,” he explained.

Researchers plus found with the purpose of the brains of mice not particular DHA supplements intake are likely to develop secret code of resistance to insulin, a hormone with the purpose of controls blood darling and legalize brain function.

“Because insulin can find out the blood brain barrier, neuronal signaling hormones may perhaps trigger reactions with the purpose of interfere with learning and cause recollection loss,” believed Gomez-Pinilla, available in the Journal of Physiology.

Here other language, consumption too much fructose can interfere with insulin to legalize darling, which is mandatory to process judgment and emotions.

“Insulin is critical in the body to control blood darling, but may perhaps engage in recreation singular roles in the brain, somewhere insulin appears to interfere with recollection and learning,” believed Gomez-Pinilla

“Our study shows with the purpose of high-fructose diet spoil the brain and body. This is something brand new,” he believed.

Although the study did not say whether the high-level levels of fructose consumption rate would comprise alike special effects in humans, but researchers put emphasis on with the purpose of these findings provide about evidence with the purpose of the metabolic syndrome can affect the mind and body.

“Our findings illustrate with the purpose of come again? You munch affects how you think,” believed Gomez-Pinilla.

“A diet high-level in fructose in the long run you can alter the brain’s talent to understand and remember in sequence. But by tallying omega-3 greasy acids may perhaps help decrease the spoil,” he believed.

"Our results illustrate that what you eat affects your thinking,"

Sugar can affect the brain. Researchers at the University of California at Los Angeles found that a diet high in fructose, the sugar is not only bad for the body, but slows down the brain and reduces the memory and learning. “Our results illustrate that what you eat affects your thinking,” said Fernando Gomez-Pinilla, professor of neurosurgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

According to him, a sweet food alters the brain’s ability to learn and memorize, but a high intake of foods high in omega 3 fatty acids, like flaxseed oil, can help fight against this phenomenon. The researchers said that this is the first study to reveal how fructose corn syrup specifically fructose, affects the brain.

In reaching this conclusion, the scientists fed rats by putting in their drinking water from the corn syrup high fructose for six weeks. It is common for this type of sugar in soft drinks, condiments, baby food and other processed foods.

Sugar can affect the brain

A second group of rats drank the same solution, but also linseed oil, which is rich in omega 3 fatty acids and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), that help memory and learning.

We then tested the ability of rats to walk through a maze before and after eating their special diet. It was discovered that rats who consumed foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids circulating in the maze more quickly than other rats.

Researchers believe that diets high in sugar is the cause of the problem and that insulin, which controls blood sugar in the body, neurons can send the signal to trigger a reaction that disrupts learning and can cause loss memory, said Mr. Gomez-Pinilla.

According to the researcher, regular consumption of DHA appears to protect the brain against the harmful effects of fructose.

“It’s like saving money in the bank. You want to build a reserve for your brain draws the extra fuel needed to fight against future disease. “

Too much sugar makes you stupid. This is the result of a combined study by researchers at the University of California at Los Angeles in rats that were fed for weeks with a fructose solution. Thus did the rodents' think less clearly "can tell the U.S. scientists.

As part of their experiment, the researchers gave two groups of rats for six weeks fructose-containing solution as drinking water. One group received in addition the other is not the brain tonic omega-3 fatty acids. Before starting the test, the animals had to train five days in a complicated maze. After the six weeks of feeding with the fructose solution, they were sent back through the maze.

Problems in signal transduction

It was found that those rats that had received no omega-3 acid, thereby noticeably slower than the rodents were the control group. Your brain cells would have had problems to pass signals, the researchers report. The animals were “less clear thinking” and is less able to remember the six weeks previously learned route through the maze, the researchers attributed to Fernando Gomez-Pinilla in on Tuesday in the “Journal of Physiology,” published study.

Fructose also promotes obesity

Fructose occurs naturally mainly in fruits and honey. Even in normal household sugar they contain is – but in bound form: cane or beet sugar molecule composed of one glucose and fructose. According to a study by the German Institute of Human Nutrition, which was conducted in mice, there is a correlation between fructose consumption and obesity, which is not due to increased caloric intake, but due to the influence of fat and carbohydrate metabolism.

Nothing wrong with you now starting to become vegetarian. New research published in the Journal of Nutrition showed that eating a vegetarian diet can make you happier and relieve stress.

Foods such as fish and meats that contain arachidonic acid (AA), a type of omega-6. Previous research has shown that eating foods containing high levels of AA may cause changes in mood that interferes with the performance of the brain.

In theory, very good to eat fish because they contain omega-3 fatty acids, such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Even the EPA and DHA can fight the negative effects of AA. Researchers also have revealed that eating foods containing omega-3 fatty acids associated with increased brain health, better moods and so on.

But recently, a study showed that people who eat meat and fish department reported experiencing mood swings worse than a vegetarian, although the intake of DHA and EPA was high.

In a follow-up study, researchers looked at 39 people eating meat and is divided into three groups. The first group was asked to eat meat, poultry fish and eggs every day. The second group was told to only eat fish 3-4 times per week, while a third group of all-vegetable meal.

After two weeks, researchers found a change in mood scores in the group of fish and meat eaters. However, the group would have a vegetarian mood was significantly better and less stressful.

Researchers also found in fish-eating group, the amount of EPA and DHA they have increased by 95-100 percent, and unfortunately not able to fight stress and mood changes, compared to the vegetarian group.

The meat is now highly criticized. What? Should we remove meat from our diet or is it enough to reduce our consumption? What should you know about meat?

1) With factory farming, meat getting poorer:

Omega-3.
Saturated fatty acids.
Previously, animals fed on grass, naturally rich in omega-3. Today, with new methods of husbandry and meat were depleted of omega-3.

2) Red meat is a good source of:
Iron.
Calcium.
This is especially red meat, which brings the iron. Other foods provide higher amounts: black pudding, veal liver, mussels, kidney, shrimp.Otherwise, the iron is also present in plants: lentils, chickpeas, grains, etc..

3) The best meat for health comes from an animal fed:
With grass.
With corn or soybeans.
The grass and alfalfa are rich in omega-3, which is not the case of corn, soybeans or wheat used in intensive farming.

4) Farm animals are fed with animal meal.
True.
False.
Bone meal was banned in feed for livestock. The question is how incinerate or recycle some 5 million tons produced worldwide (meat, bones, feathers, offal) …

5) What is the average protein content of meat?
20 to 30%.
40 to 50%.
With fish and eggs, meat is one of the richest food sources of protein.Depending on the type of meat, the protein content varies from 20 to 30%. Meat provides essential amino acids, they are basic constituents of proteins that the body can not manufacture itself and which must therefore be supplied by food.

6) In terms of pollution, producing a kilogram of beef is equivalent to:
2 km by car
220 km by car.
Livestock emits more greenhouse gas emissions than transport (FAO 2006 report). Note that during digestion, the animals produce methane, a greenhouse gas 23 times greater than CO2. Their droppings also pollute the soil and water.

7) The meat she brings some vitamins?
Yes.
No.
It contains B vitamins and particularly vitamin B12. The latter is mainly present in meat, fish and shellfish. Vitamin B12 is essential for growth and renewal of all body cells. It comes at so many levels: enzyme systems, nervous system, nucleic acids constituting the nucleus of cells, red blood cells, etc..

Should we eat meat every day?
Yes.
No.
It is recommended not to eat meat at every meal (lunch + dinner), and preferably not every day. Alternate meat with fish. And among the meat, think about alternate red meat and white meat. Opt for lower fat meats.Indeed, the drawback is the meat content of saturated fatty acids, which are not good for health (cardiovascular disease, colon cancer …).

9) The global meat consumption:
A doubled over the last forty years.
A tripling in 40 years.
Meat production was 71 million tonnes in 1961. It reached 284 million tons in 2007. It is estimated at 465 million tonnes for 2050.

10) The fish can replace meat?
Yes.
No.
Fish can perfectly replace meat. Such as meat, he brings a lot of protein, but it also has the advantage of providing omega-3 (fatty acids are beneficial to health). That said, the diet should be as varied as possible. It is therefore interesting to also eat meat, provided to avoid excesses.

For those who feel inhibited from protruding hips, a recent study revealed that women are smarter caderonas than the rest.

Scientists at the University of Pittsburgh diagnosed with a curious and interesting finding that has broken myths this week: women with wide hips and waist have refined a higher IQ.

16,000 women (girls, adolescents and adults) took part in a study comparing body measurements with intelligence tests.

The results explain that one of the causes that determines intelligence in women and children is the proportion that marks the contour of your waist, that is less in about 0.6 and 0.7 times that of its hip.

The accumulation of fat in the female body in the area of the hips and waist, containing high levels of omega -3 fatty acids, directly related to brain development. The fat around the waist is rich in fatty acids of omega-6, which hinder brain development.

The research also claims that these women protruding hips give birth to children with significant levels of intelligence.

Many parents expect their children can be the intelligent ones in the school. How can we make it happen to your child? Well……there are some great tips waiting for you :

Tip No.1 No matter how busy you are, don’t forget prepare some breakfast for your child.

If you want your child has enough energy to study and do the activities at school, please never let him skip the breakfast part. Researches reveals that the children eating breakfast have better performance in their study or other activities than the ones who don’t take any breakfast.

It’s recommended to drink at least a big glass of milk, eat two pieces of bread and 1 egg each morning as a complete breakfast. Even if you are too busy to prepare some breakfast for your child, you should put a bottle of milk and some bread or cookies in his bag and let your child enjoy the breakfast in the car or bus.

Remember, never skip the breakfast, if you want your child to be an intelligent one.

Image via Wikipedia

Tip. No.2 Let your child eat more fish !

Fish can be a good source of DHA and EPA, omega-3 fatty acid, which can benefit the brain development of your loved child.

Tip. No.3 Give your child more freedom to show his creativity !

When you bring some toys back home for your child, don’t hurry to show him how to play this toy, but leave your child some time to discovery a new way by himself. This is a great way to encourage your child to show his own creativity. He may not play the toys as the others, but he may has his own way to enjoy the moments even better.

Nutrition.

The following article covers a topic that has recently moved to center stage–at least it seems that way. If you’ve been thinking you need to know more about it, here’s your opportunity.
Researchers in Denmark in the 1970’s found that the Inuit people in Greenland, showed a much lower rate of cardiovascular problems than the people of Denmark. The answers that were found in this research showed that even though the Intuit people had a high consumption of fats, they were actually fats from fish, Seals, Whales and other sea foods, in fact they were Omega 3 fatty acids.

After that discovery, many studies were set up all over the world and they have shown that the original research was correct, in that Omega 3 oils did help to prevent Heart Disease, Cancer and Diabetes, together with the fact that they did help tremendously in improving overall health.

The following is a few of the diseases that can be helped or prevented with Omega 3 oils.
Heart Disease and Strokes, Auto immune Diseases, Breast, Colon and Prostate cancer,High Blood Pressure and Arthritis, (especially Rheumatoid).

Research in the past has also shown that a high intake of fish can help in the prevention of age related memory loss, consequently lowering the risk of developing Alzheimer’s Disease, in fact it has shown that a large number of people have enjoyed an improvement in the quality of their lives, through taking Omega 3 Oils.

Those of you not familiar with the latest on Omega 3 Oils now have at least a basic understanding. But there’s more to come.

It has been found that children who eat the oily types of fish on a regular basis, have a lower risk of developing Asthma, whilst children that do not have an intake of Omega 3 oils, are more likely to have behavioural problems and learning disorders. This could be a lead to problems like dyslexia, depression, eczema, violence, allergies, and arthritis.

The old story that “Fish is Brain food” is very true as the human brain is mainly made up of fat and that fat is the type that requires omega 3 as nutrition, it is especially needed for pregnant mothers and for the development of the baby and its brain. Fish oil has been shown to lower Cholesterol and Triglyceride levels, which of course is beneficial to all.

Omega 3 oils can do a lot for your skin, it will improve the texture and help prevent age wrinkling and that is by consuming the oil, you don’t have to rub it in to your skin, it really works from within your body. Omega 3 oils are very close to being a miracle as far as the human body is concerned, they are natural, and like Glyconutrients, the sugars that heal, they are essential for good health.

Everyone needs Omega 3 oils, normal adults need them to maintain health and prevent disease, older people need it even more to help their immune system fight off disease, and the important part that the oils play in helping to prevent the age related problems and diseases that develop as you get older, it might even improve longevity, but if it doesn’t, it will definitely improve the quality.

Is there really any information about Omega 3 Oils that is nonessential? We all see things from different angles, so something relatively insignificant to one may be crucial to another.
