A think tank has been opened in Switzerland to plan the future of multinational banks. The think tank is extraordinary in its composition, being composed of political interests from left to right and from employers and unions. It has so far outlined ideas on how banks should be regulated in the near future.

The think tank has been founded by the most unlikely of allies. The three leading figures are Christoph Blocher, former Swiss minister for justice, former president of the fascistoid right wing Swiss People’s Party, and one of the richest men in Switzerland as owner of the chemical company EMS; Nicolas G. Hayek, part owner, founder, and president of the Swiss Swatch Group known for brands such as Swatch, Omega, and Smart; and Christian Levrat, president of the Swiss Social Party which is historically linked to the unions.

The panel which includes other party members from left to right and professors for economy has analyzed the recent crisis and has come up with a string of measures that might be taken to curtail the influence of banks on the economy and thereby their influence to damage the economy by casino banking. The terms ‘casino banking’ and ‘casino capitalism’ are both used by the think tank, and are no invention of mine; Blocher stated on that head that if the banks had adhered to proper banking standards, common sense, and ethical business, there would be no financial crisis.

The measures outlined might include the splitting of multinational banks into a national and international bank each legally and economically independent of the other; multiplying the necessary legal reserves over the current level to deflate bloated balance sheets; and splitting investment banking from other banking services. The aim of these measures, which should come apart from strict regulations to be instituted anyhow, would be to defuse the potential for damage and disaster to the economy in the future.

Levrat stated starkly: You can’t close down the casino but you can close down certain gaming tables. The final goal of the think tank is the general downsizing of banks, as they endanger the real economy, meaning the productive industries which represent the true valour of any country. It should not be necessary for any government to be obliged to bail out any bank because it has become too big to ignore its problems or its (timely) demise.

As these same claims can be made against other multinational giants just as well, the reception in banking and economical circles (all of them dominated by just such international giants) ranged from shocked surprise to plain negativism. The Swiss big banks UBS and Credit Suisse were taken so much by surprise that they were unable to comment on the development.

Hayek pointed out that if neither government nor parliament will move decisively and speedily in the direction of the think tank’s proposals, these would be brought in as a ‘people’s initiative’ (the Swiss voters have the possibility to pass laws over the heads of both government and parliament by public vote). For non-Swiss readers it has to be added that both the Swiss People’s Party of Blocher and the Swiss Social Party of Levrat form, together with the Liberals and the Christian Party, the government they are currently threatening with this public vote. It is also clear that such a law would be passed with a vast majority of votes should it be put before the people.

If you are looking to become a happier, nicer you, then you’ll be surprised to see just how easy that can be. Follow these five tips and you can be well on your way to a happy and healthier new you.

We all want to be happy. Happiness gives off the appearance that nothing can bother us and nothing is wrong in our lives. The fact is there is not one person on this plant that does not have issues to deal with that makes them unhappy. What separates some from others is the fact some know how to really bring out their happiness while others do not. Here are some tips that you can implement and start becoming a happier person.

Decide

The first thing you need to do is decide to be a happy person. In other words you have to learn to not let the little things affect you in life. This morning I was behind someone in traffic who decided they were going to make a right turn. They took forever doing it. The old me would have been angry, but the new me just smiled it away as being a small part of my day that meant nothing.

Be Grateful

Are you grateful to others for everything you have? Some people believe they are where they are in life because of only themselves. However that is not true. You are where you are because of work from others too. Your mom, dad, grandparents, friends, there are a list of people that helped you throughout your journey called life that lead you to where you are today and there are more to come. From this point forward make sure you are grateful to others.

Laugh

I love the TV show Friends. I thought it was one of the funniest shows on TV. So funny that I went out purchased the 10 DVD set of every season. I make it a point to watch an episode or two throughout the week to give me a good laugh. Laughter truly is the best medicine and to be a happy person you need to laugh. So find what brings that laughter out of you and go for it.

Work

Work you might say. Yes work. The reason is not so much the work but the achievement and results of that work. Whether it is your job or a project around the house, you want to make sure you work hard at it and complete it. I love to work with wood. I love building things. The joy I get out of finishing a woodworking project gives me a great sense of accomplishment and brings happiness to my life.

Exercise/Eat Right

Many, many and I mean many studies have shown that a good exercise program combined with a quality nutrition program can lead to happiness. You will have more energy, you will look better and feel better. Visit with your doctor and work with him or her to set you up on your exercise plan today. You could also join a local gym and meet with a personal trainer. Whatever they recommend for you to get healthy, you should do it.

Thomas Jefferson coined the phrase, “the pursuit of happiness”. Take his advice and that is you should always be pursuing happiness. These five tips will give you a good start on your way to a happier new you.

Would you like to make some extra money writing about your happiness experience? You can join Bukisa today and start earning residual income on every article that you write about happiness.

Three steps that will help you determine the hierarchy in a group of males.

Due to the hierarchal nature of the male gender, the pecking order in a group of males is easier to spot than the pecking order in a group of females. From the moment male children obtain the ability to interact with other children of their age, their play is more combative, their verbal interactions more argumentative, and their demeanor more aggressive than their female counterparts. Consequently, an onlooker can easily determine the ranking within a group of males by following a few simple steps.

Note the Physical Characteristics of the Members

In a group of males, ranking is determined by physical means more than verbal fluency. Generally, the Alpha Male of the group, or the member at the top of the hierarchy, possesses a height that allows him to look eye-to-eye or down on his peers. Likewise, the Omega Male, or lowest ranking member, may possess a height that makes him shorter than his fellow beings.

High-ranking males are generally in good condition- muscular, stocky, and attractive, but lower-ranking males are usually shorter and may be less attractive. In most cases, physical characteristics affect the confidence level of the members, and thus, it indirectly influences the hierarchy of the group as a whole. When noting the physical characteristics of each member of a group, however, remember that physical characteristics alone do not determine group hierarchy. Though taller males tend to be more dominating, in some cases, the shortest male of a group may be Alpha Male while the tallest male may inhabit the lowest position. When observing a group of males, just keep in mind the physical characteristics of the members and know that they tend to influence hierarchy.

Read the Body Language

High-ranking males will appear more confident and relaxed than the rest of the members in the group. When sitting, a dominant male may recline in his chair and fold his hands behind his head, leaving vulnerable areas of his body exposed and indicating his high amount of confidence. He may elongate his body by resting his feet on an object in front of him or stretching out his arms. Submissive males, however, will try to make themselves appear smaller. This includes folding their arms over their chest or hunching forward while conversing with fellow males. Sometimes, submissive males may touch their face or wring their hands as nervous gestures.

The level of touching may also indicate one’s place in the hierarchy. Dominant males tend to invade the space of their subordinates, and they may reach out to touch them. During group romping sessions, dominate males generally initiate rough play with a taunting shove or other gesture. Though subordinate males usually return these gestures, the dominate members tend to initiate the contact, and the submissive male usually ‘gives in’ and will end the romp by failing to return a gesture or showing his palms to the other male. Sometimes, the Omega Male of a group can be spotted by watching the touching between members. In certain cases, a high-ranking male will indicate the Omega Male by granting him with a condescending touch on his upper body that sprouts laughter from the other males of the group. This may be in the form of a playful bat on the face, a ruffle of the hair, or a similar gesture.

Dominant males tend to make eye contact with more submissive members of the group. Submissive males, however, will make eye contact only briefly and then look down or away from their more dominant peer.

Examine the Communication Style

Who tells the jokes in the group? Who laughs at the jokes? In general, the Alpha Male will appear the ‘funniest’ member of the group because his jokes will elicit the most laughter. In this case, laughter is a gesture of submission. If a non-Alpha member tells a joke, the highest-ranking male will usually be the first to laugh at the joke, and the others will follow. Though communication style is less important in the male pecking order than in female groups, it remains another factor that allows an observer to spot hierarchy among the group members.
