Octavia Spencer in “The Help”

This Field is also open.

As usual, there have been many omissions…

Let’s start with a movie everyone wanted to see; Bridesmaids. Called the “most universally beloved film” and taking in over $288 million at the box office worldwide. Bridesmaids and its star Kristen Wiig nowhere to be seen. On the other side of comedy comes Drive. Ryan Gosling received not a single nomination; perhaps because it was rather bloody.

For some reason, the Academy overlooks Leonardo DiCaprio. Despite his vast range and the projects he accepts, i.e. J. Edgar, he isn’t seen. Tilda Swinton who did a fantastic performance in “We need to talk about Kevin” was overlooked.

Over time, and popularity, we will learn how many more movies and performances were missed.

Ten shocking facts about Leonardo DiCaprio.

Leonardo DiCaprio is an American actor and film producer. He has received many awards, including a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for his performance in The Aviator (2004)

Since the 2000s, DiCaprio has been nominated for awards for his work in such films as Catch Me If You Can (2002), Gangs of New York (2002), The Aviator (2004), Blood Diamond (2006), The Departed (2006), and Revolutionary Road (2008).

His latest films Shutter Island (2010) and Inception (2010) rank among the biggest commercial successes of his career. He owns a production company named Appian Way Productions.

Here are ten things you didnt know about him:

1. Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio, an only child, was born on 11 November 1974 in Los Angeles, California. His mother Irmelin is a former legal secretary and his father George is a producer/distributor of comic books. DiCaprio’s father is a fourth-generation American of half south-Italian (from Naples) and half German descent (from Bavaria in Germany)

2. In a 2010 conversation with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, DiCaprio stated that “I am really half-Russian” as both his grandparents are Russian. He was named Leonardo because his pregnant mother was looking at a Leonardo da Vinci painting in a museum in
Italy when he first kicked. He was raised Catholic. His parents divorced when he was a year old and he lived mostly with his mother.

3. After being booted off the set of children’s television series Romper Room for being disruptive at the age of five, DiCaprio followed his older stepbrother Adam Farrar into television ads.

4. In 1990, made his debut on television in the short-lived series based on the movie Parenthood. After Parenthood, DiCaprio had bit parts on several shows like The New Lassie, Roseanne and Santa Barbara.

5. His debut film role was in the comedic sci-fi horror film Critters 3, in which he played the stepson of an evil landlord. Then he became a recurring cast member on the show Growing Pains. He made his big screen breakthrough in 1992, when he was handpicked by Robert De Niro out of 400 young actors to play the lead role in This Boy’s Life, with Ellen Barkin and De Niro.

6. DiCaprio initially refused to portray the lead character Jack in Titanic but did it after director James Cameron encouraged him. The movie went on to become the highest-grossing film to date (Record broken in 2010 by Avatar) and transformed him into a teenage heart throb and movie superstar, giving rise to “Leo-Mania.” The next year, he made a self-mocking guest appearance in Woody Allen’s satirical movie, Celebrity(1998)

7. DiCaprio has dated several women such as model Kristen Zang, British model and socialite Emma Miller, Brazilian model Gisele Bündchen (separated in 2005), model Bar Refaeli in November 2005 (Seperated in May 2011) He is close friends with Tobey Maguire, whom he met while auditioning in 1990, actors Kevin Connolly and Titanic and Revolutionary Road co-star Kate Winslet.

8. DiCaprio owns a home in Los Angeles and an apartment in the TriBeCa neighborhood in Lower Manhattan. In 2009, he bought an island in Belize on which he is planning to create an eco-friendly resort. He also owns an apartment in Riverhouse, an eco-friendly building overlooking the Hudson River in Manhattan.

9. During the 2004 Presidential election, DiCaprio campaigned and donated to John Kerry’s presidential bid. FEC showed he gave $2300 to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in the 2008 U.S. Presidential election, the maximum contribution an individual can give in an election cycle.

10. In 2010, DiCaprio donated $1,000,000 to WCS at Russia’s tiger summit. DiCaprio arrived late after two near-miss flights, leading the Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to describe him as a “muzhik” or “real man” A committed environmentalist, he has been praised by environmental groups for his activism. In the past, he has opted to fly on commercial flights instead of chartering private jets. In 2010, he donated $1,000,000 to
relief efforts in Haiti after the earthquake.

One of the greatest film stars of all time, this incredible woman was as talented, as an actress, as she was strikingly beautiful.

http://www.life.com/gallery/22450/image/2716981#index/0

March 23rd 2011 was yet another sad day for lovers of those female movie icons of the 20th century. Remember that the special little girl who stole the hearts of millions in her first starring film role? She was to become regarded as the quintessential English rose, having been born in London, to American parents, giving her the distinction of dual nationality.

http://www.biografias.es/files/star/big_thumbs/th_elizabethtaylor1_vy380.jpg

Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor, born to an American art dealer and his wife, February 27, 1932, spent only seven years in England. As WWII threatened to break out, in 1939 the family returned to America, going to live in Los Angeles. Elizabeth was a stunning little girl, and a family friend’s suggestion, that her parents offer her up for a screen test, resulted in Universal studios signing her up.

http://s001.radikal.ru/i196/1008/19/cfefc61799ed.jpg

Already possessed of that haunting beauty that was to shape her destiny, she had a movie contract aged only nine, and at ten was starring in the MGM film Lassie come home, rapidly achieving a huge fan base as a child star, and never once looking back from then on. Even the doll-faced child actress was a commanding screen presence, and undoubtedly a consummate actress in the making.

http://content9.flixster.com/question/22/03/32/2203327_std.jpg

This strikingly beautiful young woman, as she became, was soon to be regarded as one of the movie industry’s most striking beauties, and one most famous movie stars on earth. After her appearance, in 1951, in the movie A Place in the Sun, all men started panting lustfully, each time they saw her. A natural magnet for publicity, during the entire course of her life, Taylor was to be photographed more than almost any other woman in history.

http://www.1zoom.ru/big2/36/135774-frederika.jpg

Even holding the almost certainly never-to-be-repeated record of ELEVEN appearances as cover picture of Life Magazine, this startlingly alluring lady was one of the greats not for those incredible looks, but her enormous acting talent. Who could possibly forget the accolades she merited, receiving no fewer than five Best Actresses nominations and actually being awarded two Oscar statuettes, during her 60 years of film making.

http://geniusbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/cleo-elizabeth-taylor.jpg

Without doubt numbered among the greatest ever film stars, Elizabeth Taylor is best known for her 1963 role as Cleopatra, eight marriages, to seven different men, over a 45 year period. Though Cleopatra was her best remembered role, the Oscars were awarded for two other films, best actress both in Butterfield 8 and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, in 1966?

http://www.moviemaidens.com/photos/full/3-1050-52766BGif_w.jpg

Elizabeth Taylor became the first actress, in movie history, to be paid $1million for appearing as Cleopatra though her role in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf was regarded by many as her finest ever acting performance. Of all her marriages, the longest and most tempestuous was to fellow movie star Richard Burton, with whom she stayed for ten years, between 1964 and 1976, actually divorcing him in 1974 and re-marrying him again in 1975!

http://img.rtvslo.si/upload/zabava/slika10_3_show.jpg

She had three children, by different husbands, adopting a fourth child. Michael Wilding (was born in 1953, Christopher Todd 1955, Liza Todd 1957, and Maria Burton became her adopted daughter in 1961. Even after her career began to wane, Elizabeth Taylor remained a favored target of the media, though her final years were dogged by ill-health and hospital stays.

This great and undoubtedly iconic lady died, succumbing to congestive heart failure in her hospital bed on March 23rd 2011, and many red-blooded males on earth lost a treasure that had sustained their fantasies for many years. She was, without a doubt, one of the most sensual, sexual, strikingly beautiful women ever to grace our world, and she will be sorely missed, great and gracious star that she was. A tragic loss.

Today my family and I find ourselves in moment that will define who are. I myself sit in meditation searching for answers. Mental exhaustion slowly finds a place to rest, a place called “LETTING GO”. I have found myself here many times.

Before, I would reach out to other looking for help you find out who your friends are when your need help…a painful but true lesson. We have no friends nor family…. needing help can do this.

I remember one incident when another person said “What if you did this or that“. It lead me to think “What if”; the world was bigger. What if I was taller. What if my skin was not dark. What if I was blond. What if the those around me cared not for themselves, but for others. What if I wings. What if I had blue eyes. What if we all told truth. What if the words that matter were heard. What if Oprah heard my story. What if I were rich. What if when I asked for help, someone heard me.

Thinking about “What ifs can make you crazy. Lost in the past, dreaming about the future and not living in the moment. I no longer think in “What ifs” only in the “right now” for that I can change or guide.

Here’s one more thought What if…. the whole world spoke in one voice at the same to the same tune…….beautiful ..but, its only a “what if”

Love, Light, Joy

Oscars are the most famous film awards in the world, awarded since 1929. Academy, which counts 6000 members, given these prices up in 25 categories. Most Oscars (26) was Walt Disney. But the Oscars are a frequent target of criticism and the very composition of the Oscar Academy creates confusion.

The first Oscars were handed out in May 1929th Statues was fifteen and the event had 270 people came to see. President of the Academy was the actor Douglas Fairbanks.

Form of ceremony and the number of categories over the years constantly changing. In 1930, only seven categories, in 1934 created a category of music and song of the year and two years later he was handed Award for Actress in a Supporting Role. Technological developments have necessitated the introduction of rates for special effects and also in the thirties of the Academy procured firm Price Waterhouse (now PricewaterhouseCoopers), which compiles the results and guarantee its confidentiality.

The year 1953 brought Oscarům revolution, began to direct television broadcasting of the gala evening, even if they were seen only in the U.S. and Canada. Since 1966 began broadcasting in color, and since 1969 has the Oscars to watch millions of people throughout the former democratic world.

In communist countries are not allowed to broadcast. In the sixties, the height of the popularity of the Oscars, and added new categories (visual effects and sound effects).

Academy and vote

The Oscar nominations Academy members always decide in December. In January it will be the final vote, the results of which are concealed until the evening ceremony. Major categories in 2009 was twenty-five, but their number is constantly changing. There are also various special awards (Award for Science and Technology, honorary award or the Irving G. Thalberg price), so it is difficult to say how much is the Oscars.

In addition, the Academy invent exceptions. A typical example is the Oscars for the music, the music world do not have as much prestige. The Academy is aware of and therefore put in place since 2009 an exception which says that if there will be no playoffs that year pretty good, has the right to refuse an Oscar.

There is also violation of the awards, such as the song Falling Slowly Marketa Irglová and Glen Hansard. Oscar rules clearly state that the song must be original and written specifically for the film, which in their case was not met.

The Oscar Academy are represented both film critics and prominent directors and actors, as well as hairdressers, makeup, technicians and even the staff of PR and advertising. All are entitled to vote on the best film of the year, while the official website of the Oscars is not available or complete list of members.
