Kritovolous wrote a text which was preserved in the Ottoman archives depicting the Siege of Constantinople and its surrounding events. Unlike most histories of the period, the Ottoman leader Mehmed II was praised in his account. Was Kritovoulos simply writing a eulogy of Mehmed II in his account of the fall of Constantinople? or was their a deeper meaning for his adoration.
