Eek! What do I do?

Queueing is such a bizarre thing. We stand in line, just waiting. Waiting for what we want, what we need, what we desire. In the queue you get all sorts of people, all with their own personal journey, their own wants, hopes, desires, likes, dislikes, personality and characteristics. At this moment in time, I share one thing in common with all these people; we are all connected, all unified, all queueing!

As you move through the queue, things change: new people, new stories and new journeys. The group dynamics change but there still things to discover about all the people around you. You catch snippets of conversations, see what kinds of clothes their and through this you obtain new pieces of information, new sensory input, about who they are and what kind of life they may lead.

Some people are shy and hollow away, longing for the queue to be gone, others stand there with a look of pride across their face, looking important. Such a mass mix of emotions in one place! Some people are worried, depressed, lonely and fearful while others are happy, brave and fearless. So many journeys and lives all unified by one simple thing.

In some countries, the concept of the queue has developed differently to it has here in England. Take my trip to France last year, for example. I was in a hustling, busy supermarket and after choosing an array of goods, I made my way to the checkout and entered mass chaos and panic! Instead of politely standing behind each other, there was a mass rabble of people crowded round one tiny conveyor belt. Each person was itching to get served next. It wasn’t just young people, oh no, it was everyone: parents with toddlers, the elderly, businessmen and young people. The experience was quite different to what it is here in England where we are all stand elegantly and peacefully behind one another. Okay, it’s not quite like that in England but you get what I mean!

So next time you’re in a queue, huffing away about waiting for so long, just take a look around you and remember that everyone in that queue has their own, unique life.

Peace out!
