A U.S. judge has been asked to rule on whether animals should be protected from slavery in the same way as human beings. This case is being heard in San Diego and has been brought by PETA, who named five orcas as plaintiffs in the case. The US District Judge Jeffrey Miller called the hearing.

 The orcas reside in San Diego and Orlando, and are forced to live in tanks.  PETA lawyer Jeffrey Kerr says ‘This case is on the next frontier of civil rights’, despite the fact that these orcas are not expected to respect the civil rights of their audience.  Theodore Shaw, Sea World’s lawyer, says the lawsuit is a waste of the courts time and money. He added that a court does not have the authority to answer the ethical question of whether animals should be treated as humans.

The Judge has now heard the evidence from both sides, before deciding to take the case under advisement and to issue his ruling at a later date.  The implications of a ruling in favour of PETA could be significant, allowing animals to be plaintiffs in a law suit. It would also raise questions concerning how scientific data is gathered, and in the use of animals in the military.

Defence lawyers say the issue at the heart of this case is not whether the animals have been abused. The case aims to give animals the same rights as humans, so keep them captive would clearly be wrong if PETA was to win the case. PETA say any ruling would only apply to the entertainment industry, but the ruling could have repercussions in many subsequent animal rights cases.

Some people were once considered property, and animals also should be thought of as humans and have their rights protected in the same way. This is an interesting ethical question; these animals did not choose the life they lead. But at what point do equal rights become impractical? Will a decision ultimately lead to the life of animal being equal to that of a human? The judge in this case has not set a date when he will announce a verdict.

New .xxx Domain Available

The new website will be launched in December of 2011.  That’s when the Internet domain .xxx will be available for commercial use.  PETA says their new .xxx site will be a useful way of addressing a hot topic and their animal rights message at the same time.

While critics suggest the new PETA triple X website is just another marketing method by which PETA can advance their views, others say the new site could be useful.  However, there are several people who think the new campaign joins other crude and tasteless PETA efforts – such as their “Save the Whales. Lose Blubber. Go Vegetarian campaign – that ultimately does the organization little good.

So, what will be on the new site?  PETA says they will have actual pornography, but it will be interspersed with videos of animals being mistreated and links to websites featuring vegetarian and vegan messages and products.

PETA says it hopes to gain a “whole new audience of people” by launching their porn site.  No doubt about that, but will all those new people have much of an interest in anything but the human animals that will be romping around in the all together?  I guess we’ll have to check it out – all in the name of science and research, of course.

XXX site will be ready for launch by year’s end. The initiative started, of course, unprecedented controversy, many believing that this form of marketing can have positive effects far from being designed just to get more money, exploiting resources with sexual connotations.

But PETA does not seem to be intimidated and continues its campaign, appealing as before to some celebrities from the world of adult films such as Jenna Jameson, star of several previous campaigns for animals.

            While waiting for my mom to get ready so we could head off to the mall, I picked up the adjacent Pantene bottle and began reading the back of it. As I was reading I realized that it did not say anywhere on the bottle “Not Animal Tested.” I wondered if indeed the shampoo my mom and I used for years was in fact testing their products on animals. I had to investigate. While, she was getting reading, which usually takes more than an hour, I got on the computer and started doing some research. In fact, I was correct. Pantene tested their products on animals. I was appalled by this fact. I was a hypocrite. How could I say that I am an animal lover if I purchased products that test on them?

            Immediately I called off the shopping trip and drove to my house to rid it of any other products that might be questionable. I immediately went to my computer and tried to find out which products were safe for me to use and which companies I should despise and abandon. I mostly found results for makeup and fragrances on the list that does NOT test on animals. I included a list of some major companies so that you can buy them with confidence. As follows: Tresemme, M.A.C. cosmetics, Revlon, Clinique, Merle Norman, Avon, Mary Kay, Paul Mitchell, and Bath and Body Works are all companies that are cruelty free.

            The opposing list is surprising and yet all of the products and companies listed are very profitable ones. The list goes as follows: Pantene, Dial, Arm and Hammer, Kaboom, Clairol, (which includes Aussie, Daily Defense, Herbal Essences, Infusium 23, Procter & Gamble), Clorox, which includes (Armor All, Formula 409, Fresh Step, Glad, Liquid Plumber, Pine-Sol, and Soft Scrub), L’Oreal, Olay, and Johnson and Johnson. These are just a few companies and products. There are many more that you use on a daily basis and have no idea are tested on animals.

            The cruelty free companies were found on sites such as leapingbunny.org and on PETA’s don’t Test list, which can be found on http://www.caringconsumer.com. The most appalling fact about the companies that are on the Test list is that testing of personal care products and household products are not required by law. They test solely because they want to test on animals. However, there are laws that do require testing such as with pharmaceuticals and certain chemicals. The companies that mandate animal testing are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency. Although organizations such as PETA, are fighting the battle daily.

               After finding this out I contacted a few of the companies that tested on animals to see why they participated in such heinous acts. Johnson and Johnson emailed me back saying that they do not test on animals for “nonprescription skin and hair care products  that have been proven safe historically”, but if any new ingredients are added then they would have to test them on an animal. However, Johnson and Johnson said, “testing with a minimum number of animals is necessary to fully assure safety.”  Again I was appalled at their lose words about a precious animal and that animal’s life. Next, I contacted Pantene. Their response was that in their healthcare department animal testing is needed and when it comes to pet care, they use real dogs and cats as guinea pigs when developing new food. They believe by doing this they, “help dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives.” At what cost are we willing to sacrifice these innocent animals? What if they put something harmful in that food by accident and it kills the poor dog that they were testing it out on? Is it worth it? We have plenty of dog food now as it is, do we really need more options?

         The fact is that animal testing is going on for our own selfish purposes. Do we realize it? No. Most people don’t, but it is because we are kept in the dark and push organizations such as PETA aside. Ignorance is the leading factor in animal testing. We do not think about if the nail polish we are wearing or the shampoo we use has killed a helpless animal, just so we can look better. Well guess what, while your hair may shine and your makeup may sparkle, one less animal is on this planet, all because of us, the consumers.

            So now, “Can you really call yourself an animal lover?” Are you willing to change brands of cosmetics or your brand of shampoo to help an animal from getting abused? If the answer is yes, then maybe you can call yourself an animal lover. Ignorance is bliss, but knowledge is power. So go educate yourself and make a difference in the life of a rabbit that gets eye infections because of our eye liner or a rat that gets its skin burned while testing chemicals in shampoo. If the consumers are not buying then there will be no manufacturing of the animal tested product. Go cruelty free and save an animal.

LOLONG SHOULD BE EATEN OR RELEASED TO PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)

It could be eaten cooked, roast, fried or in any preferable form.Keeping Big Lolong in captivity, may, in the short run, boost tourism to the developing Asian country. That is as long as the animal remains alive. It could also break free and when it does, the result will not be palatable.But if Lolong must be released, it should be released in the premises of PETA or any of those numerous animal rights’ groups hankering for its release.

“We are preparing to launch its own website peta.xxx, but instead just goes to show people our iconic ads, then showing how animals suffer for entertainment,” News.com.au quoted a spokesman said Ashley Byrne.

“Our actions are often more democratic than one way to make people sit up and pay attention to the situation of the animals,” he said.

Initially, observers of animal rights seem too hot for TV commercials and promotions.

However, PETA’s appeal shows in galleries and videos soon give way to the global threat of animal abuse by a hidden camera revealed the study group in a very different kind of graphical content.

Retire Aging Monkeys, Pamela Anderson Urges AIIMS

International celebrities Pamela Anderson Saturday wrote a letter to the  All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIM) Director NC Deka, asked him to release the monkeys of aging facilities at First Basic Health Institute.

Anderson sent the letter on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in India after seeing video footage taken secretly in AIIMS.

She wrote: “It broke my heart to see the pain that is described in the accompanying video. But the animals are suffering behind closed doors at AIIMS have to endure this nightmare every day.”

She said “I was shocked to see that the rabbits are forced to live in cages of wire floor, the sharp edge to dig into their sensitive pads and can cause their feet to linger.”

The letter pointed out the former “Baywatch” star, who recently also made a brief appearance on “Bigg Boss”, as many monkeys in the AIIM has been languishing in cramped, rusting cages for more a decade and a monkey suffered under these conditions for almost 20 years.

According to the legal framework, the laboratories in India are required to rehabilitate the animals after three years of biological utilization.

Pamela To Demand An End To India’s Testing Of A Monkey

Former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson and model has accused one of the research centers of the cruelty of India’s most prestigious animal, urging him to withdraw from the test monkeys decades-old practices and adopting a human.

Anderson, famous for the beach in slow motion running scenes of the hit 1990 TV show lifeguard, wrote RC Deka Director of All India of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after seeing the video claimed to expose the cruelty in New Delhi center.

“It broke my heart to see the suffering that is documented in the accompanying video,” Anderson wrote in a letter sent on behalf of People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

“But the animals are suffering behind closed doors at AIIMS have to endure this nightmare every day.”

In the letter, Anderson said dozens of monkeys are kept in “cramped cages, barren, and rusted for years’ and demanded the release of a monkey that she said she had suffered from the research center nearly 20 years.

The former Playboy model says she was crying while watching the video, and describes workers ‘adjustment’ to the animals from their wire cages and “fun” of monkeys pretending to hit them.

AIIMS officials said they had not received the letter and added the institution is the “last”, The Times of India.

More than 40 monkeys and other animals such as rabbits, mice and guinea pigs are in a cage at the Institute and used in tests to develop new drugs, the newspaper said.

Indian laboratories are required to rehabilitate the animals three years of research and give them a clean living, PETA India, said in a statement.

We use animals for food, clothing, shoes, belts and other accessories. We use them for scientific experiments. We discount a place on earth and I believe that animals are there to serve us and our needs.

PETA stands for People for Ethical Treatment of Animals, and is an organization dedicated to changing people’s mentality. They are against the use of animals for food or clothing, especially for what they see as the unnecessary use of animals or particularly inhuman, such as killing or capturing them for their fur.

They are passionate about their cause. In his own words, PETA believes that animals deserve the same rights and interests are taken into account, regardless of whether they are useful to humans. Like you, they are capable of suffering and have an interest in directing their own lives and therefore are not ours to useófor food, clothing, entertainment, experimentation, or any other reason.

We’re supposed to a developed society. But how a company can be developed to thrive on the suffering of animals? In his excellent book when the author Elephants Weep Jeffrey Masson explores the emotional life of animals and present convincing evidence for this. As a species, we must begin to reassess our place on this earth and where we stand in relation to other creatures that inhabit it. PETA also believes and is a passionate advocate of animal rights.
