1. Legs, with feet attached
2. A brain, pre-connected

The tricky part!

Perfecting this activity has plagues the human race for several millenia. Every once in a while you might come across a dog on YouTube who has learnt to walk on its hind legs but most will agree that the act of walking sets humans apart from their mortal counterparts. If you have found your way to this website never having walked before, I congratulate you for finally attempting to learn. Before you try, I must warn you that starting off is the most difficult part, but will become much easier as you get more experienced in the matter.

Sometimes when you’re learning something new, it’s a good idea to practice something more difficult so what you’re learning seems easy. Therefore, it’s important you learn how to do a back-flip before you walk. Please consume your spinach and push off the ground with your legs as hard as possible and throw your arms and torso backwards. There is a risk you will land on your back or head but let’s just hope that doesn’t happen. Once you have perfected the back-flip, we can extrapolate this skill to learning how to stand up.

Similar to doing a back-flip, standing up involves pushing at the ground with your legs. Once your knees are fully extended and you are balancing on your feet, you are successfully standing up. Learning this would usually take an average human months, but as you know how to do a back-flip already, it shouldn’t be a problem. As soon as you can comfortably balance on both feet, take one foot OFF the ground and place it in front of you. If you are able to do this, congratulations! You have taken a huge step in the direction of being able to walk (no pun intended). It’s time to relax and have a few drinks before you finally go the extra mile.

Before you brag about your achievement on your resumee, it’s important to learn how to walk continuously. Even though you are able to place one foot in front of another, it doesn’t quite match what you see everyone else doing. The trick is to lift your other foot and move it in front of the foot you moved first. By continuing this sequence, you are guaranteed to move forward. At this point, you should be able to see why you need the grand piano. I wish you luck with your endeavours and hope you walk a million miles!

The outstanding composer and pianist Emahoy Tsegue-Maryam Guebrou (named Yewudbar at birth) was born into a wealthy family in 1923 Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She was sent to Switzerland at the age of six to study the violin and returned to Ethiopia in 1933, but in 1937, due to the second Italo-Ethiopian war was sent to Asinara, an island north of Sardinia, as a prisoner of war.

After the war she resumed her musical studies under the Polish violinist Alexander Kontorowicz in Cairo, and thereafter returned to Ethiopia, accompanied by her teacher, to work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She and Kontorowicz were appointed by the emperor Haile Selassie as members of the Imperial Body Guard and its band.

At 19, she fled Addis to become a nun at the (still operating) Gishen Maryam Monastery in Wollo. She took the title of Emahoy and her name was changed into Tsege Maryam. In the monastery, she feverishly worked for hours on her music, writing compositions for the piano, the organ and violin, even though her music was not yet widely appreciated by Ethiopians.

She left Ethiopia in 1984 to take refuge in Jerusalem, because the socialist dictatorship of Mengistu Haile Mariam “attacked her religious beliefs”. She still lives in a monastery in Jerusalem and plays music.

Her first record was released in Germany in 1967, with the help of Haile Selassie, and other recordings followed with the assistance of her sister.

Her music is a wonderful blend of Ethiopian and European classical influences, blended with some blues sounds to create a near-mystical atmosphere.

Power isn’t my thing. I don’t think I would be able to handle too much power. I like to leave it to the people who are already in power, like the President. It simply doesn’t appeal to me whatsoever. It would only be important to me if I had the power to tell off certain people without getting my face dented.

The unforgettable, iconic superstar Freddy Mercury, singer, songwriter, and amazing musician, was born Farookh Bulsara September 5, 1946, in Zanzibar, becoming famous as front-man of the iconic rock band Queen, strutting his mesmeric stuff with a unique and unforgettable style.

Who could ever forget the swagger, the incredible Adonis-like male beauty or the mastery of showmanship that was the signature of this most talented and innovative of singers. Having studied piano at a Bombay boarding school in India, this charismatic young man soon joined the Hectics, his first band.

Freddy studied at Ealing College of Art. his family reaching London in the 1960s, where he met and became firm friends future Queen members Roger Taylor and Brian May. In 1969, Mercury was lead singer with a group called Ibex, but in1971,with Taylor and May, met bassist John Deacon, the quartet dubbed Queen by Freddy started playing together.

Queen’s music took a couple of years to really catch on, third album, Sheer Heart Attack , released1974,being their first big seller. The first hit Killer Queen was about a high-class call girl, perfectly mirroring the lifestyle of the openly gay Mercury, whom the song seemed to describe to perfection.

UK No. 2 and US No. 12 in the charts, a sound described as hard/glam rock, Queen had the perfect front man in the outrageous Freddy, in1975 coming up with album A Night at the Opera, featuring Bohemian Rhapsody, a seven-minute rock operetta written by Freddy.

It was the the skilful overdubbing of his voice that truly showed off his immaculate four-octave vocal range, and- this innovative track  hit no1 in the UK charts, becoming a big hit worldwide, and epitomizing everything that was iconic and magical about the inimitable Freddy Mercury.

He was always very open about his bisexuality, but kept his relationships to himself, being very private out of the limelight, though this rock icon did live a lavish lifestyle, loving champagne and an avid art collector, to the extent of once spending in excess of $400,000 for hand-painted china.

 Freddy was a party animal,throwing elaborate celebrations, flying friends to Ibiza on a particular birthday, to include fireworks and flamenco dancing in his planned festivities. His Lifestyle was what killed him, though, as he contracted the horrendous AIDS virus, no longer touring with the band after 1989, on November 23, 1991, releasing a statement confirming to the world what they already knew, made extra poignant by the fact that on the following day, AIDS-related bronchial pneumonia claimed his life at only 45 years of age at his London home.

Freddy had never wished to be an object of pity and curiosity, keeping his afflictions to himself, and rock lovers round the world mourned the loss of one of the most iconic performers of all time. Freddy would have been the most outrageous O.A.P. of them all, had he lived, and I for one would have loved to bear witness to that. What a loss his death truly was.

Shara Lin is a Taiwanese performer.In her video, she was playing violin, zither and piano ALL BY HERSELF!

Her musical multi-tasking has gain her a  global display in a training video of her performing Taiwanese artist Jolin Tsai’s song “Dancing Diva” that has racked up more than 4 million views on YouTube within three weeks.

Shara, a beautiful 25-year-old actress who has a music degree ( which explain why she knows how to play the instruments she played in her video), put the performance together within five days for a blend of classical and Taiwanese pop music by tucking the violin under her chin and stretching out as needed to both piano and zither.

Young Shara said “I think the toughest part is to play the piano and the zither simultaneously. We tried many times to figure out this position for my left hand to play the piano, and right hand to play the zither,”

“When I have to look at both the piano and the zither, I really wished my eyes could grow wider apart. If I have to play (them) together, I must play by feel.”

Shara learned to play the piano when she was only three years old. Her interest in music soon expanded into other instruments including the violin, zither, guitar, jazz drums and harmonica.

Lin said she is willing to try other creative performances in the wake of her YouTube success.

“After people saw this video, they suggested that I can play the drum with my foot and also add the harmonica,” she said.

Music has that beguiling attribute which affects our hearts in incredible ways. D.H. Lawrence reveals such quality of music through his heart-warming lyric, “Piano”

A woman is singing to D.H. Lawrence in the dusk to the accompaniment of a piano. The softness of the dusk, the intimacy of a female voice singing and above all the piano, take him back to view scenes of his childhood. He sees himself as a child, sitting under the piano, when it booms with the tingling of its strings. His mother is playing the piano and singing and he is pressing her small feet, poised on the piano pedal. He is taken into the vista, hears the music, feels the touch of his mother and is touched by the picture of her smile.

The mastery of the song has the promise soothing his nerves, yet betrays him, on the sly takes him back in time, in spite of his efforts to control himself.  The haunting picture of those Sundays in winter, when he sang hymns, with the tinkling piano as his guide, in his cosy parlour, inside the comfort of his home. But then I went to a winter concert at my son’s school.  As I walked into the gymnasium, it took me back to my youth.  There were metal folding chairs put out for all the parents and family to sit on, plus they had some bleachers against the wall.  My son told me where he was sitting in the band, so I tried to sit on that side of the room to see him.  The crowd for the most part was attentive, there were a few cell phones ringing and once in a while you can see the glow of someone texting on their cell phone.  (The man sitting next to me!).  The event turned out to be very nice, the band played, the choir sang and did a play and a young boy played solo on the piano.  It was beautiful. 

It made me think that we can not cut the arts out of our schools.  Our children need to know about music, drawing, theatre and, if I may be so bold, cooking and sewing.   In my opinion music teaches musicality and rhythm, drawing teaches about the movement of your hands (fluidity) and theatre teaches the ability to speak in public.  I believe that the later two fall under the heading of good nutrition and taking care of oneself.   All of these are needed.

Who says house cleaning can’t be fun.  Cleaning house can be a family activity, and this is a great opportunity to bond with each other during these cold times.  Re-arranging some house furniture, changing curtains, adding new accent  to your living room will give it a new look which gives a more pleasant feeling to everyone.  A general cleaning you may say, decluttering  the house will give much space to the house by  throwing or giving to others what is not already of use at present.  After cleaning, a delightful snack for everyone is best.

LEARN AND PRACTICE A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT

There can be many indoor hobbies that you  can pursue while inside the house during winter.  Playing a musical instrument is one.  You might be neglecting your favorite instrument during summer and fall. Find inspiration from the gloomy sky and create songs that really speaks from the heart.  You maybe surprised that you have come along way learning to play the piano, guitar, violin, or drums inside the house.  Online video tutorials helps a lot in your practice. 

IMPROVE YOUR COOKING SKILLS 

Eating during winter can be an alternative boredom busters.  Experimenting with different recipes can improve your cooking skills.  Browse some of your old cookbooks and start choosing your next recipe.  Let the children get involved with the cooking and enjoy the excitement with you.

OTHER HOBBIES THAT YOU CAN DO INSIDE THE HOUSE

Aside from those mentioned above.  There a lot of other hobbies that you can pursue inside the house like  painting, scrap-booking, on line games, having fun with the snow at the backyard, boardgames, watching movies with the family and reading favorite novel or informative books.

EARN ONLINE WHILE AT HOME

Working with the computer is another good alternative activity at home.  Unlike the traditional work where you have to get-up and go outside going to the office or other place of work.  Writing on line can be as a hobby or an opportunity to earn on line. Websites like Triond, Bukisa, Factoidz, Snipsly, Squiddo, and other content websites  offers endless earning opportunities for writers.  Other ways to earn money on line are blogging, joining a ptc site, joining a forum and alike.  One should only be patient and research more about freelancing.

Seasons change but you can be productive in every season that may come.  Just be flexible and make the most of you life and time.
