Obama’s Favourite Food on The Table

As a child who lived four years in Menteng Dalam, Jakarta, President Barack Obama had never thought that he would enter and to be hosted at the State Palace of Indonesia.

In his remarks after the state dinner on Tuesday night, November 9, 2010, Obama said he never thought would be entertained by a President of Indonesia in the historic place.

“As a child living in Menteng Dalam, at that time I never thought would be entertained in a place of honor. I never thought I would get into this place as President of the United States,” Obama said.

At the state dinner attended by Indonesian Cabinet ministers, leaders of state institutions and former President Megawati Sukarnoputri, Indonesia’s traditional food is served for Obama.

Obama was treated with smoked duck with asparagus, meatball noodles, fried rice with fried chicken and fried egg, beef satay with peanut sauce, shrimp fried, and pickles. The desserts were grilled bananas and coconut ice.

Most food in the menu are Indonesian food which become favorite of president of the United States. He was very happy and enjoyed the food.

In closing remarks, Obama praised the delicacy of the food and thanked his host for serving meatball noodles, fried rice, chips, and crackers. “Everything is delicious,” Obama said in Indonesian.

In his speech, at dinner and also at the press conference after the bilateral meeting, Obama also convey the memories of his childhood during the four years he lived in Jakarta.

Blondi

Blondi was the dog of German dictator Adolf Hitler. He was given to Hitler as a gift by Martin Borrman. He was a typical German Shepherd dog. Blondie had lived with Adolf Hitler until his death. After his death, Blondi was killed by physicians with a cyanide capsule.

Lassie

Lassie was a movie star. He played in numerous movies, TV shows, radio programs, and even books. He was the favourite animal movie star in the 1950s and 1960s. He starred in Painted Hills, The Sun Comes Up, Lassie, Magic of Lassie and many Lassie series.

Laika

Laika was the first dog in space. She was launched by Russian spacecraft Sputnik 2 on November, 1957. However, it was a great disappointment when she died because of stress and overheating problems inside the rocket. Scientists officially announced that Laika died because of a malfunction in the thermal control system. In 1980s and 1990s, several movies were made by in memory of Laika.

Pickles

In 1966, the World Cup in Central Hall was stolen by burglars. The Football Association hired detectives to find it. But, by chance, a dog named Pickles sniffed out the stolen cup. Later, David Corbett, Pickles’ owner, was rewarded by the Football Association.
