Ways to effectively promote an event or cause include creating a facebook event, getting sponsorship, networking, guerilla advertising, flyers and posters, and having an attention grabbing theme.

Have you got an event coming up that you need to get the word out about? Maybe your work is putting on an evening, or you are fundraising, trying to raise awareness for a cause or club, or just trying to bring people together. The key to any event’s success is, of course, people knowing it’s happening! The more people who know, the greater the number of people who’ll go – it’s as simple as that. Here are some ideas that will help you promote your event effectively:

1. Guerilla advertising.

This works especially well in a university or school environment but there’s no reason it can’t work for any event. Guerilla advertising can be done on minimal budget and needs lot of time and lots of creativity. The idea is to come up with something attention grabbing that at first glance isn’t immediately obvious: on a second take, readers will see information where they can find out more.

Ideas for this could be something as simple as drawing with chalk on the footpath, plastering a crazy amount of post-it notes somewhere in a cool design, or printing special stickers and just getting really creative with where you are placing them: bathrooms, rubbish bins, traffic light pole, etc. If you have a good amount of time before the date of your event and really want to generate some buzz, this is a great, fun strategy.

2. Create a Facebook event.

It may not be the most exciting of the ideas on this list, but it’s a sensible, sure fire way to get the word out. Either create the event yourself, or use your business page to promote the event. Invite everyone you know, and then take it a step further: Call on others to help you get the word out: you could even sweeten the deal by creating a competition around who helps you get the most new attendees.

Don’t be shy to ask other business pages if they would mind sharing your event with their followers too (more about this in tip number 3). The great thing about Facebook events is that they give you an indication of numbers, although probably the best way to estimate is to take that number of “attending” and halve it.

3. Sponsors and networking.

Have a think about who else might get something out of you event being successful. For example, if your business is a hair salon, and you are holding a client evening: maybe the girls at the make-up store across the road would be keen to advertise and create a partnership? Maybe your local radio station will be happy to help spread the word in return for your promoting them at the event?

You don’t need to worry about losing focus from your main purpose, but if you are willing to make a little compromising then you could seriously expand the amount of people you reach. And as a bonus, you have new contacts for later, who may call on you to help with their future events also.

4. Great Flyers and Posters.

Don’t underestimate the power of good old-fashioned promotion: flyers and posters that are informative and eye-catching are certainly effective. It’s important to make sure you have an attention grabbing design and that you’ve used decent printing services so your flyers stand out from the rest.

It all comes down to how well you go about handing these out, of course. Stop by your local shops and cafes and ask if they don’t mind you putting up a poster or having some flyers on the bench. Waiting till the actual day of your event is the best time to look at handing out the remaining flyers to pedestrians on the street: most people just take a glance and then shove the flyer in their pocket or in the bin: avoid this by ensuring your flyer stands out and by using them more effectively.

5. Get creative with a theme.

An easy, effective way to attract attention: plan your event around a theme that is crazy, silly, scandalous or controversial. People love to talk, so give them something to talk about! You’ll attract a number of people who are simply too curious and want to find out more. The only downside here is that it’ll make it a little harder to target your specific audience – but if your key focus is number of people, start wracking your brain and once you’ve come up with an idea – you’re halfway there. Link it to the event somehow and you’ll have people lining the doors to get in.

A mall in the business district of Makati City, Philippines prohibits poor people inside its premises.

“This is a private controlled environment. Poor people and other disturbing realities strictly prohibited.”

These were the very words of the much – talked poster which prohibits “poor people” in a mall within the elite and business capital Makati City, Philippines.

The said poster was placed inside Greenbelt Mall owned by the affluent Ayala Land Corporation in Makati City. The signage poses also bears the words “Ayala Land Corporation” and a logo that seemingly resembled the mall’s logo, which makes it appear that the poster was indeed placed by the management of the said mall. Photos of the signage spread like wild fire in social networking websites like Twitter yesterday, March 24, 2011, which irked a lot of people, not only the “poor ones” but also the “rich ones” such as entertainment celebrities.

However, the Ayala management denies placing the said signages, claiming it was a hoax and was made by pranksters to tries to discredit the good name of the mall. The management also asserted that Greenbelt is for the enjoyment of the public.

Whether hoax or not, it sure slapped the faces of the people to the harsh truth —- that economic and status discrimination is not so seventies.

Here are a few tips to make your room look more welcoming but still showing your personality without making it an overkill. Suitable for all ages!

Whether you’re a teenager or a full time mum, injecting some personality into your room is one of the most important things you can ever do. Your room is like your personal space where you can just kick back and relax. It’s where you spend most of your time and a gentler, happy environment normally reflects itself in your actions. A dull and depressing room often results in the owner of the room producing dull and depressing emotions. Sometimes, gaudy rooms are often a sign of rebellion (and this is not in a good way!) which can leave a visitor pretty confused and if you’re unlucky, maybe even terrified. But it doesn’t matter whether you’re into Led Zeppelin or into foreign cinema, there’s always a few ways how you can inject some personality into your room and make it more welcoming to you and others.

1) Photo board

A lot of people think this is a cheesy idea where you have a board with photos stuck on it. Others think it’s vain but often, having memories around that remind you of happy and relaxing days in your life will often leave you feeling happy and motivated. Having photos of your family often serves as a calming influence on you. Others visiting your room will immediately feel a lot more relaxed when they see an emotional side to you.

2) Posters

It’s very easy to overdo posters and too many of the same kind can be an overkill. Normally, posters of your favourite films make your room look aesthetically more desirable. When you’re reminded of things you like, you automatically put yourself in a happier mindset. However, far too many posters of films can become a bit frantic and leave the personality your room emits, as frankly, obsessive. Plenty of posters of bands or musicians you like often give out a childish or teenage like vibe so pick one or two music posters or even better, an album cover to grace your walls. Don’t create a massive collage of the music you like on your wall, give a little taste and leave the visitors in your room wanting more!

3) Trinkets and show pieces

Some people like showing off, others like subtlety. Whatever your styles, the ornaments you use for your room show a lot of your personality and make your room a lot more dynamic. If you’re the kind who likes to wow, one statement piece, like an ornamental vase, or a beautiful big mirror, a leather sofa, or even an outrageous bean bag will do the trick. Pick just one thing that immediately focuses the best of your room. Too many of these statement pieces will end up looking like clutter and over-dramatic.

If you prefer subtlety, choose lots of tiny colourful things, crystal pieces that tie in with the overall look of your room. For example, if your room is mostly browns and oranges, choosing little objects with animal prints on them and placing them all around the room looks very pretty. Far too many of these objects, and the clutter will mount, very few of these objects and the room will look mismatched.

4) Choose a theme for your room

Uniformity in the theme for a room normally works well because it leaves a calming sensation in the room. Even if you choose outgoing pinks and blacks for your room, as long as a theme is kept, the room will look inviting. Clash electric colours with spots and stripes and animal prints with a massive furry rug in the middle and a leather sofa with a multicolour wardrobe will look unsightly. A lot of themes means that your room is over packed with stuff you don’t need and the room automatically looks smaller and more claustrophobic.

5) Less is more

Choosing a few well suited pieces for your room, and the right kind of paintings and posters will not only reflect your personality well, but will make your room a lot more relaxed. Less is indeed more because the fewer, nicer pieces you have, the more spacious your room will look. This means there will be less clutter for you to tidy up and no one wants to tidy a room all the time. You don’t want something like the room below!

So have fun re-decorating your room and try adding things you believe will express what you’re about but remember, however old you are, it’s about making the room look welcoming and not obsessive or over-passionate. Decorate your room like as if the Queen would visit it someday and think. “This person has personality, I would like to have tea with this person.”

Please do ever tell me that you are not one same of those with a celebrity worship syndrome. I am not so sure what to imagine of these individuals. Not to offense you but please get your own life. Yearning over on any celebrities is not just lame but it is really ridiculous. Fine, i know that is ticking off statement for most people out there. Still if that comment makes you furious, then it probably applies some fact. Okay, let us spill out this issue about celebrities for a while. Let’s take Jessica Alba’s case. You may be able to buy Jessica Alba posters from any different stores and even online. They’re not that hard to obtain at. Yes, of course i agree that she’s one of the gorgeous and attractive girls out there. But still, I may equally say that there is nothing different to her beauty just like any other countless souls. All this can be described to any supermodel, musician or Hollywood star.

If you are one of those who are searching Jessica Alba posters, and so you might have fall into the wrong place. I know for sure that you may get plenty of them at ebay though. I have heard a lot about this young beautiful actress so much and how her named was being looked-up over the internet. It may simply conclude that men adore her much. That is entirely understandable. Nevertheless, in reality no one would ever bother to care on her if she was not famous. Mostly one tends to develop actors and actresses based on the roles they portray and how people see them on the movie. And then they soon begin to think that celebrity has anything that other may not have. This is always misleading, a bogus. Everyone out there are hanging on their characters. The roles they portray aren’t the celebrities themselves. So are stricken on Dark Angel or do you wish to have Jessica Alba posters? They are totally different. Jessica Alba is roughly as divinely-human like Paris Hilton. Did you ever see her hosting a MTV Movie awards? It is sometimes good to resolve that nobody adores Jessica Alba much more she does. Great surprise! People merely look at the celebrity as their character in the movie but not the real personality they own.

You are of course free to gather as many posters as you want to any of Tom Weiling, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and so with Jessica Alba posters. You may find them on any other stores you see around. Or may be able to purchase them on the net. You may have all of them at once. However, please try to remember that they are just same individuals who are get paid at a very great amount of money just to pretend someone they want to portray and read a play script with a witty dialog which was fashioned for someone else. So, they are not actually preserving and saving the earth. But anyhow, keep patronizing Jessica Alba posters for her to buy more of the high fashioned attire and jewelry on her upcoming posts. That is what necessary!

Ver proposed a major change at your company, got a lot of buy in at the outset, but after a few weeks the old way of doing things had taken hold again? This is a very common problem when it comes to managing change in an organization. The “old way” already has momentum. You have to fight for the “new way” while also phasing out the old. This can be a real challenge!

Recently John Kotter released a clever little book called “Our Iceberg is Melting” in which he tells a story about a herd of penguins having to shift to a new iceberg. One of the keys to successfully helping the penguins who had grown up on the iceberg understand the core issues was to keep posters in front of them. This helped remind them of the problem every day so the sense of urgency remained.

Whenever change takes place, people (and penguins, apparently) need to be reminded of the sense of urgency for why the change needs to take place. It’s just too easy to get frustrated and quit trying the “new way.” Taking a tip from Kotter, why not implement a change management campaign using poster printing?

Poster Tips

Posters can help remind your employees about the need for change, how the change will help the company, and even what to change. Whether you are making a massive change to the corporate culture or are implementing a new password policy, posters can keep the change in front of your people.

Keep your message simple when designing posters. Don’t describe the process all over again. Instead, consider a simple slogan to remind everybody about the key issues and let them fill in the blanks.

Your imagery should be consistent with the message of your posters. Don’t skimp on color. Full color poster printing is much more effective than black and white. If the change is a long-term process, consider plastic poster printing.

Place your posters in prominent areas. At the end of a long aisle at work, in the restroom, on bulletin boards. The goal is to remind the team of the change, not bludgeon them. Keep your placement tactful, but obvious enough that the message is seen.

Final Thoughts

Change management is difficult. You may have a great change management team, manufacture some short term victories like Kotter recommends, but still fail at the stage where people get impatient. Use posters to help your staff keep the relevant issues at the forefront. A steady pressure on the change process can help push the change through, and posters are a great way to passively help this happen.
