An introduction to Pierre Bourdieu's critique of society and social structures.

According to Pierre Bourdieu, every field of human activity is characterized by the uneven distribution of different types of ‘capital’ that are used to determine who is better or stronger or more powerful in that activity. Some activities are quite easy to quantify and calibrate: in sports, for example, it is generally clear which players or athletes are better than the others and by how much. In other cases, the distribution of capital is difficult to identify and calculate, especially for outsiders who lack sometimes arcane inside knowledge.

Nevertheless, membership of the activity gives rise to a specific form of behaviour which has been created and refined over a lengthy period of time in such a way as to cause people to follow precedents and to punish mavericks who try to break the norms or even change them. These forms of behaviour are interiorized by people to the extent that they may not even be aware of them or question why they should be followed. This is called habitus by Bourdieu. Habitus mean existing power structures are maintained and recreated in new generations and iterations. The uneven distribution of capital leads to a pyramid form of hierarchy and the interiorized behaviours mean the only way to climb up the pyramid is to follow the habitus, the rules of the game.

Bourdieu further argued that it is the constant struggle between different fields of activity that provide the differing nature of various states at different periods of history. A country such as France, for example, is more strongly influenced by philosophical discourse and practice than are the Anglo-Saxon countries, where the field of economics is dominant and therefore provides the principal means of rising to the top of society.

Inevitably, therefore, people and organisations at the top of the pyramid have powerful incentives to maintain the existing power relations and, to do that, they need to persuade people below that there is something ‘natural’ or even ‘virtuous’ about the system they inhabit. Rich people in America, for example, claim that they work harder than other people, create jobs and so forth and that poor people are feckless, lazy, incompetent and so forth (which is why the American people sends so many poor people to prison, so as to back up the lies that support the rich). Clerics in religious-dominated societies demonstrate that they are (often literally) holier than thou and that some invisible big brother living in the sky has appointed them to positions of power and instructs everyone else to do as they are ordered or else going to hell forever.

Many are scared to take the plunge into Politics as they fear they would not survive for long in this field and in a way they are Right. They have to start from the beginning and we all know how "Politics" has been in India with the Congress, the BJP and of others!! Is it not time that we give the "Youngsters" a chance instead of recruiting the "Old" & the "Same" and "Same" people over and over again. Don't we want a Stable Government and don't we want to give our own "Motherland" a Secure future. Therefore during the Next Elections in India come to the "Polling" Booths and "Vote In Large Numbers" and Use the "Right" that is the "Right to Vote" As "Judiciously As Possible"!!

THE FIELD OF INDIAN POLITICS

Power does imply strength and control and furthermore we have already witnessed what power can do which is to ‘suppress’ the poor and the commoners.

Don’t we struggle hard each day to earn our hard earned money but ultimately where does all of this go? All of these should go into the government’s treasury but sorry not for developmental purposes but for looting people in a number of ways ranging from increase in price of essential commodities like bread, vegetables, milk which has been increased from Rs3 as instead of an increase of (Rs.5 an increase which was demanded by the KMF authorities) to a hike in water and electrical tariffs which would be gifted to as New Year Gifts in the coming months, increase in tolls and also in our taxes which we pay to the government. We pay our hard earned money as taxes for developmental purposes and not for watching ‘Porn’ films by the Ministers as we have already witnessed that too which is regarded as a high institute as a ‘Public Office’ where serious business is being held.

Don’t we now know how our money is been spent? To watch movies, films, blue films and to party with young pretty girls and to increase their loot for themselves, for their family and for their children. But for us ‘We’ ourselves cannot make our ends meet and therefore we are unable to give our children a good and a secure future, leave out our family in here as we know we all struggle hard including our family to earn a decent living to have a secure future for our family and children.

Don’t you think the government is trying to exploit us in various ways from increasing prices of essential commodities to levying tolls and by increasing taxes wherein the Government goes all out towards the people to inform them to pay their taxes in time!!! Should we even pay them a ‘Pie’ from our hard earned money?

The Congress has been submerged in scams and is still holding out to a straw while we have also seen what the BJP government also could do by been submerged in a lot of incidents ranging from mining to various others including spreading rumours of Congress leaders getting arrested over the issue of black money stacked overseas in order to influence the people and to attract more voters towards their party.

Now it’s left up to you to decide which Party you would like to go in for-for these parties or for a New party or for the JD (S). Just look through the puzzle and who do you feel has been quite active. Though you would surely say the BJP by always been in the news, the JD (S) has been fighting from behind the screen whereas the Congress has not been that active as it was before. Do you want the Old people back in the hot seat over the age of 65 -80 years or do you want to see some youngsters in the age bracket of 20 years and beyond) occupying the hot seat in the future and providing us with a stable government and a secure future for our Motherland India and by freeing us from the political turmoil we have seen almost everyday!!

It’s your choice and your decision but make it count seriously as possible while going to a polling booth as we do have a ‘Right’ given to us and that is indeed the ‘Right to Vote’ which we should use it as ‘Judiciously’ as possible.

Let the KBC show Begin!

Yes, it is also a ‘Kind of Kaun Banega Corepati Show’ indeed!!

Do hope most of you would make the right choices.

Welcoming all of you to cast your Votes in Large numbers during the next election to reach to at least 85 -90%.

Don’t you want to see your city entering into the Guinness Book of World Records!!

Therefore be sure to come and vote in large numbers during the next Elections!!

Dictatorship is a form of government in which a person or group holds absolute power.

Some countries have turned to dictatorship in a crisis or have done so after defeat in war. In others, dictatorships arose to replace incompetent or corrupt governments. Sometimes the goal was to head off a revolution. In all cases, those who supported the dictatorship saw it as necessary to saving the country.

Dictatorships stand in opposition to democracies. In democracies, citizens rule directly or through elected representatives.

Dictators in Ancient Times

Crises sometimes led to dictatorships in ancient Rome. The government chose a dictator, or magister populi, to resolve the crisis. But his time in power was usually limited. And he was required to surrender power when his task ended.

Rise of Modern Dictators

Modern dictatorship began with the French Revolution. In 1793, France’s National Convention (legislature) feared a revolt. It granted exceptional powers to the Committee of Public Safety. This committee could arrest anyone accused of unpatriotic action. During this time, the Reign of Terror, some 300,000 citizens were seized. About 35,000 of them were killed or died in prison.

Since then many dictatorships have pretended to act on behalf of the people. Many have misused democratic institutions, such as political parties and elections, for this purpose.

How Modern Dictators Rule

All modern dictators reduce the power of other political institutions. All limit personal liberties. They do away with the rule of law. And they censor criticism. They also curb or eliminate their opponents.

Some dictators rule by force only. Others seek popular approval. Many try to distract the attention of the country’s citizens. They may stage spectacular parades, hold mass meetings, or build public works. They may attack other countries to play on national feelings. Many dictators have also used religion to gain followers.

Modern dictatorships suffer from common problems. The dictator’s chosen officers may fear to offer honest advice. This leads to poor policies and sometimes even defeat in war. And few dictatorships have solved the problem of who will eventually take the dictator’s place.

Totalitarian Regimes

The term “totalitarianism” describes extreme versions of dictatorship. It was coined in the 1900s to describe the Soviet Union under Joseph Stalin (1929–53), Italy under Benito Mussolini (1925–43), and Germany under Adolf Hitler (1933–45).

Image via Wikipedia

Stalin ruled through terror and censorship. He tolerated no opposition. And he imposed a uniform ideology on the country. The dictatorships of Mussolini and Hitler arose after World War I (1914–18). Both Italy and Germany had suffered severely in the war. In the postwar period, unrest and government instability plagued Italy. And Germans felt humiliated by the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, which ended the war.

Both Mussolini and Hitler stressed the need for authority and a strong state. They called for discipline and sacrifice for the good of all. Both regimes were highly nationalistic. They were aggressive in foreign affairs. Both outlawed all competing political parties. Both saw socialism and Communism as a threat and reacted strongly against these ideas.

Mussolini and Hitler also used terror and censorship to stifle opposition. Through propaganda, they spread misinformation to win popular support. But the regime of Hitler was far more brutal. It engaged in arbitrary terror, violence, and mass killings.

Do you sometimes feel that you decide completing any task but despite having capability, you do not find “energy” in yourself, by which you can complete that task in any logical way? You anyhow start that work but gradually lose your interest and could not finish the task at hand and therefore, it remains incomplete for ever. This develops bitterness and feeling of failure. All these things happen when there is low or absence of motivation.

Motivation is a very important topic; we can bring a positive and meaningful change in our life by understanding it fully. Let’s examine what is Motivation? What is its importance in our lives? What is the relation of motivation with success? Which factors are essential for elevating motivation and what are the factors that reduce or kill motivation?

In simple words, motivation is a name of “energy” or “power” that enables a person following his targets with full heart and soul. In the presence of Motivation the journey of a person keeps on moving ahead automatically and a person completes the most difficult tasks happily and easily. Will power and motivation are the essential ingredients for success.

It is the same power that pushes a worshipper leaving his warm bed in the severe cold for worshipping, convinces any soldier performing his duty in unfavorable conditions in a desert. It is a strange power that uplifts a person for converting impossible tasks into possible ones and it its absence the easiest task seems impossible.

In respect of motivation different experts have put their ideas in front of the world, all are important in their places, but the idea that received the most popularity was presented by American Professor Abraham Mosley in 1943. In this Article we will examine his idea thoroughly/in detail, understanding which we will be able getting the answer of the question, “What are those factors that affect motivation?”

The Abraham Mosley’s idea about Motivation cleared on the world that there are five types of human necessities in life, which on step by step completion elevates motivation in human and in case of non completion of these requirements, motivation starts declining. It must be cared much that the order of these requirements are very important because their order is set as per their importance. The human needs according to Professor Abraham Mosley are:

1- Physiological Needs

Physical needs are the foremost needs of human life, without which it is not possible keeping alive. These needs include food, shelter and cloth. With the civilization progress there are many other needs in the modern age that can be included in the category of physical needs as per our standards of living.

2- Security Needs

After fulfilling the physical needs, security needs are important. Who is not aware of the importance of security needs? A person cannot focus in the presence of insecure feelings and remained overwhelmed in variety of doubts. Possible fears about future keep him worried all the time.

Every person feels the necessity that his life and wealth would have no fears at all. He should have security in wealth and social affairs. The better condition of law and order, justice in the country, reliable punishment and reward system, conduct of merit in the society, arrangement of safety from accidents and health fulfills the human security needs.

3. Love and Belonging Needs

After fulfilling the health and security needs love and belonging needs are important. We all know that human is a social animal. He possesses the natural desire of giving and receiving love. Due to this need he makes friends, grows family and searches his life partner, all these things help him creating emotional bonding with others. These relations can both be sexual or non-sexual. It is also in his instinct that he wants to be a part of group whether religious, political or social.

Doing all this fulfills his requirement of love and relation. If his requirement of love is not fulfilled fully he feels himself lonely and the extreme feeling of loneliness can create depression in him. The most important aspect of this need is that in case of non-fulfillment, a person may also lose interest in the fulfillment of physical and security needs. You might have seen many people who leave eating food, leave there houses and sometimes leave their lives as well, in case they fail in getting love or face separation from their loving personality,

4. Esteem Needs

Every person has a natural need that he must be respected. He desires that other people admire his qualities and abilities present in his personality, he receives acceptance everywhere and he must be seen as respectable. In order to fulfilling this need people associate themselves with different activities and hobbies which creates a sense of contribution in him and the need of self-esteem fulfills.

If this need is not fulfilled to a considerable extent, his self-esteem gets affected and in some cases he can become a victim of inferiority complex. The more the people have low self esteem, the more they need admiration and respect from others. Such people are more inclined getting popularity and dignity, because in this way they get more respect and honor from people.

The interesting thing in this respect is that the people with low self-esteem do not get satisfaction even by the getting respect and honor externally rather the improvement process starts only when they recover their self-esteem internally. The depression cases are more critical. Such people cannot show any extraordinary performances due to their mental condition, and hence, neither considered deserving of any respect or admiration nor succeed internally recovering their low self-esteem.

5. Self Actualizing Needs

Among Abraham Mosley’s idea of needs this is the last one. The relation of this need is with the desire that if someone is using his full potential or not. It is the name of the desire by which a person wants to achieve every possible thing in life. This is an exemplary situation.

It can also be described as the growth process has not stopped in a person but is still going on with the time. The needs of self actualizing can be different in different people. Some people satisfy their desire of self actualizing by putting their energies in painting, photography, poetry and inventions.

Understanding the above mentioned details you would have guessed that these cover almost every aspect of our needs in life. There is no easy or short way keeping you motivated all the time but it is worth taking care of all these necessities in an orderly way as stated above.

Only financial stability and progress is not a guarantee of happy life but a human personality is a combination of variety of needs and every need has its own importance. All these requirements are entire reality and demand their fulfillment. Ignoring any one of these can only create a long term complexities in any one.

We often indulge in a mistake of using all of our energies, abilities and time for fulfilling any one of the above mentioned needs, while ignoring other needs of our personality. As a result, in due course of time, our motivation starts declining and ultimately we come across a mental condition where we feel lack of motivation.

The only way of dealing this situation is that we shall examine our life style and priorities carefully and evaluate the following:

To what extent can we fulfill these needs?

Where are we making mistake?

What important aspects of our life demand our attention and time?

After fulfilling all these requirements considerably, a person becomes capable of passing a complete, fulfilled, happy and satisfied life and develops an unlimited providence of energy that enables him achieving any target in life without much difficulty.

The only power people have over you is that which you give them. Taking back you own life is with in your power.

We work to live and create a acceptable life for ourselves and our loved ones. Since we spend so much time at our work we tend to build relationships with our co-workers, unfortunately not all of them good, but we all strive to make the best of our situations and our surroundings. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, we still seem to find ourselves at the shortest end and our work lives slowly spiral down into our worst nightmare?

In such a case the first thing to do is evaluate you own situation. If you feel you are being bullied, then you probably are. There are many types of workplace bullies, but the worst must be the brutish overbearing manager. The reason why I consider him to be the worst is because he holds so much power over you and can really upset your life for you.

The criteria for being bullied are miles long, it’s up to you to research and find out if you are being wronged, and you deserve to know. For instance, if your boss shouts at you in front of colleagues or clients just because he feels he has a right to, then you are being bullied. When only you or a handful of people get treated in a degrading manner but not your other colleagues, then you are being bullied, and discriminated against. When the first thing you face in the morning is a belligerent boss taking out their home stress on you, you are being bullied and you should take steps to ensure that it stops.

Being bullied should not be taken lightly. There are many subtle consequences that could change your life irrevocably. Loosing income due to absence and poor health is just the tip of the iceberg. The family is usually the first to suffer and unfortunately they usually suffer the most. If you wake up negative or you don’t want to go to sleep at night because you don’t want to face a new day, then you should realise that there is something seriously wrong. That is no kind of life to live.

Unfortunately some people are more prone to being bullied than others. This is because one person can hardly afford to turn the whole work place against him or her. So who would then be considered prime bully fodder? Well that’s easy, if you fear you could be bullied, then you can. The reason I say this is because a person that is strong enough to withstand bullying wouldn’t even consider it. Bullies follow a certain path. They choose the quiet and reserved people, because they are so reserved. Bullies hate conflict more than most. They will avoid confrontation and their chosen victims will more than likely be the type of person who refuses to make a fuss. Also people who are low down in the ranks and very dependent on their jobs would be a clear target, which is why it is best not to show you dependence too clearly.

When you have established your position as that of a bully victim then the only decision is which rout best suits your needs. There are so many ways to stop this menace that once you take the first step it almost becomes funny. The main thing to remember is that you are ultimately dealing with people and you have the same rights as they, if not more so. So, first of all, get your mind-set right. You’re only a victim if you want to be one. Find out about the laws in your country. If you have a HR department, contact them to get the relevant information pertaining to your situation. You could also try your union or a professional councillor to get information on how to proceed.

One way to deal with the bully is of course to “man up” and face the person on your own. At first this might appear to be impossible, but you mustn’t let your fears rule your life. Scrounge up every last morsel of courage and face your demons. If you record the whole conversation and remember to keep cool, chances are you will shame the offender into an apology and your life might take a dramatic turn for the better.

Otherwise, use the more formal rout and make a written grievance. Remember that a written grievance should contain all the facts accompanied with dates, times and possible witnesses. When going this way an independent person will investigate the allegation and report the findings to the relevant people. Your boss, or his boss, will then meet out punishment as necessary.

The reason why we have this problem of people using and abusing other people is very simple. People use other people for certain things; to feel better about themselves; for financial gain; to hide their own incompetence and a million more reasons. The only question that should matter is, are you a victim or not?

If you work for an intelligent competent company they will have no time for irrational behaviour from their managerial staff and will quickly put an end to it. If they don’t, and leave you to the offenders mercy, then they have just proven to you that they do not deserve you and you should take this as an opportunity to move on to greener pastures and remind them of the saying, it’s too late for regrets.

A country divided against itself cannot stand, and neither can the people. This is not a conspiracy theory, but a tool used by governments to retain power.

I personally am sick of all of this racism stuff shoveled out by the government. Yes, I blame the government because they are to blame. They have a hidden agenda. You see this is where the country divided works well for the government. In fact, this is where the genius of our government is exposed. The government of the United States has a lot of very smart people whose job it is to do nothing but think. That’s right they get paid to think. I was told that the late genius Carl Sagan of Cosmos fame was one of these people. I am not sure if he was in a think tank, but the government did listen to what he had to say about science. I don’t blame them, the man was a genius. Washington think tanks have been around as long Washington itself has. These people come up with fantastic ways to help the government rule and govern you and me. They also come of ways to keep the truth from ever being exposed as such. They are the heartbeat of daily life in this country and most of the population sees them as a mythical group at best. I am here to tell you the truth and here it is. They exist and affect you and me in ways you can only imagine until today, because I am going to tell you about them. Just knowing they exist could be enough to change every belief you ever had about the government. Racism is a government tool, in fact it works so well for them that if anything else they come up with gets exposed, racism will be used as the wild card it is, and keep their power intact. Why do I say it will be used? The answer is simple, not many people will believe what I am about to say here and I don’t believe that any changes can be made by any one man. It takes a nation to beat this lie, and it would take far too much heroism in order for folks who agree with this to succeed. Let’s look at how the government causes racism. They don’t come out and say racist things, at least not on purpose. They are way too smart for that. They come up with programs and advertise them as such perfect equality builders that the gullible actually believe that what they are doing is good for the people. They believe that programs such as affirmative action are going to even things up, so to speak. The government knows that affirmative action does no such thing. What it does is create a division. It causes reverse discrimination, and the hidden underlying outcome is that it continues to push the fact that people of one race are smarter than others. I am a Celtic Caucasian and I have some Afro-American friends who see through this affirmative action thing, and are mad as hell about how it makes them look. Remember my background is the same as the Afro-Americans background, in fact this country used to treat the Irish Catholic as lower class citizens than the African slaves. They used to put up signs that said no honky need apply, all the while signing up Irishman to go out west and die for this country while taking it away from the Native American folks. This is not about the Irish or the Afro-Americans; it is about all of us who have fallen into the division caused by these racist programs. Affirmative Action goes beyond equality and says that if you are black, or a minority you can get a job without having the same test scores, education and qualifications. They pushed this in business and in Schools throughout the nation. Do I believe we need to equal our work base and give all people a chance when it comes to education or business, absolutely! I just refuse to believe that Afro-American, Native American, or Hispanic folks for that matter are any less intelligent than I am. By the way, Celtic is a race and the latest findings show that we are not white Anglo Saxons, but may in fact come from Egypt. There is another theory that because over 80 sir names used by the Irish are equal to the surnames used by the Hebrew race, that we are in fact the lost tribe of Israel. Whatever I am, I am no smarter than anyone from any other race of human being, period. You have to understand the main concept here is that racism causes division among people and that division lessons the ability any one group has to get the government to follow the peoples will. This chapter is not about Affirmative Action, it is about how the government causes division by using racism and fear. Human beings fear what we don’t know or understand. The government knows only too well that people stay away from what is not comfortable for them. This assures their success in causing division even when disguising it as a wonderful thing. How can anyone be against equality, right? Now don’t go saying I am against social programs that help equal the playing field, I am not. I do believe that programs should be equal for all who are living in the same neighborhood and going to the same schools, or even applying for the same job. If it is equality then it is good, but if it is not, then something stinks in the state of Denmark, so buyer beware! The government is good at using this type of lie that it will take some people who are very angry and unloving toward one another to put down the sword, and join hands with who they thought wrongly was the enemy. They will have to join as one to change things. Sounds like Heaven don’t it? Unfortunately I don’t give a whole lot of people credit for being able to join forces and become one. Maybe I am wrong, and after reading this article maybe, just maybe, someone will have the guts to agree that we are our brother’s keeper, and not the enemy, and prove me wrong. Racism is the enemy, and all the programs that cause it.

A true enemy wants you dead, 9/11 proved that, but we the people are not enemies, we have been lied to. The truth is that we will never have true equality until we join hands as brothers and sisters and get it done. There is no other way. I hope after reading this, someone can change and show me the light, but it looks like the governments’ lies have become so deep rooted in our society that they have little to fear. They truly don’t believe that someday they will have to live by dreams of a few good men who wanted a government of and by the people. Unfortunately it was these men and others who followed them who refused to put black America’s history in books, and tell the truth about slavery. Maybe now you see why. If this government ever apologized to the Irish Catholics who were slaves they would lose some of the power racism has given them. You see the truth is stranger than fiction. Slavery is not just a black issue, but a black African and White Irish Catholic issue. If people start to realize that a lot of division and hatred was caused by these lies and that the evils of slavery cannot be blamed on any one race, but on the same nation we fought for freedom against, and the same slave company, then maybe we have a chance.

I used Affirmative Action here as an example good or bad, as the cause of a certain thought process depending on what side of the issue you are on. It is the thought process the government is after. They know the type of things people want or need so they are smart enough to use these things to forward their agenda and continue keeping the power out of the hands of the people. They do this with through so many government programs. They give our Tax dollars to illegal and legal aliens who claim asylum or just sneak in from other countries. Why would anyone in our government even think of paying for illegal alien’s education when we are paying the prices they are allowing us to pay for our education? The only way that could happen is because it causes conflict, and conflict works to benefit the government. No one to in our government is that much of an idiot as to believe paying for illegal alien’s education with our hard earned tax dollars is a good thing. They know that this is action will be cause to fuel racism and racism guarantees the government will continue to be able do as they please and run your lives. This is true my friends whether you are conservative or liberal, black or white, male or female, Native American or Hispanic, rich or poor. The government lies to all of us and continues to hope that those who dare to tell the truth are considered the idiots, and conspiracy nuts. Believe what you will, but I guarantee that the government really doesn’t have our best interest at heart; they have their best interest at heart. I don’t know about you but that is the way I see it, and I am mad as hell!

Before ending this article, I just want to plead with all of my brothers and sisters of all races and creeds that make up this great country, to take a moment and think about what I am saying here. It doesn’t matter whether you are religious or not, or whether or not you believe in what I believe. Take a moment and search your own heart to see if you can reach out and put past anger and hatred aside and grab my hand, and walk with me to Washington by way of voice, internet or the pen. Can you do whatever it takes for the idiots in charge to see that we will be fools no more, and we will stand as one for the needs of this country first, and once we are healed, the world.

If a person has an experience that is physically, mentally or emotionally traumatic, the mind deals with the situation in one of several different ways. Some people abuse alcohol, food, drugs or other substances to numb the feelings they have inside. Others mourn for a short period of time, restore their faith, balance and sanity, and somehow miraculously move on. But the rest of us left over, usually those who are very analytical and logical, have trouble processing deeply troubling situations. So, we replay the painful situation over and over again in our minds, searching for an answer. But the problem is, the answer cannot be found in the rational mind, because the problem is on an emotional plain.

Therefore, the solution has to come from the heart, which needs to be healed and restored. Here is the step by step process I have adapted to end obsessive thinking about an Ex:

Step 1:

Don’t take anything your Ex ever said or did personally, because nothing your Ex ever said or did was about you. Even if your Ex downright blames you for everything that went wrong in your relationship, realize their statement is only coming from who they are, which has absolutely nothing to do with the person you are.

Step 2:

However, not taking your Ex personally is a two sided coin. If during the heat of an argument you react and tell your Ex what an idiot THEY are, and how everything is THEIR fault, then it has nothing to do with them. Your statements only reflect the kind of person you are, which is a person who likes to blame and judge. This has nothing to do with your Ex. Therefore, consciously make an effort to be the person you are, regardless of how your Ex is behaving. Make a list of all the qualities you admire in others, for example: kindness, confidence, compassion, and respect. Chances are you already possess the qualities within yourself. Be very careful not to make statements that don’t reflect who you are, even when you may be tempted to give into the hurt and anger you feel.

Step 3

Release your judgments and opinions by becoming friends with Death. As morbid as this sounds, realize that in 100 years, you and your Ex will likely be dead, and nothing you ever fought about will be remembered. If your Ex has the obsessive need to be right and argue with you about everything, give in to their whim and say, “You are absolutely right.” Not only will this reinforce your relationship with Death and save you a tremendous amount of personal power, your Ex will find it impossible to argue with you because you are giving the non-verbal message that it really doesn’t matter. As one my favorite authors Wayne Dyer once said, “Have you ever noticed how hard it is to argue with someone who isn’t obsessed with being right?”

Step 4:

If the hurt and anger is overwhelming, distance yourself from your Ex completely. And no matter what, get on your knees and pray for your Ex every morning. Pray that your Ex will be granted all of the health, wealth and happiness you wish for yourself. Even if you are not a religious person, or you don’t believe in God, the act itself is liberating.

In twelve step programs, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, they are taught to pray for people they have a deep resentment towards. At first, you will not mean a word of the prayer. But if you say the prayer consistently for two weeks, you will come to genuinely mean it, and find that there is a part of you that realizes your Ex is just a human being, with their own imperfections, weaknesses and short comings. If you go deeper, you will realize your Ex may also be a very hurt and scared person – even if they outwardly seem very hostile, aggressive and manipulative. Of course, no matter what happened to your Ex in their childhood or even in their day to day life – it does not give them a reason to mistreat you. But by being aware of the fact that your Ex has a certain set of issues to deal with on their own time, it will help you replace the hurt and anger you feel with compassion and understanding.

Step 5:

Own your personal power. Because when you are who you are, regardless of the situation or circumstance that comes your way, then this transforms you into a very powerful person. This is the step that absolutely baffles your Ex, because by you being who you are, and not letting them get you down – it sends your Ex the non-verbal message that you are who you are and they are who they are. But most importantly, it tells your Ex that you are not going to take any of their crap! When you respond to your Ex’s hostility with kindness, and your Ex’s blame with compassion, it frustrates them to no end, because your Ex cannot get you to play their game.

Step 6:

Come to understand that you are doing all of this work for no other reason than to realize who you are, restore your sense of balance, and reclaim your personal power. If you do all of this work in order to manipulate your Ex, and make them want you back, your Ex will subconsciously sense your intentions, because at one point or another, you will slip and let your intentions be known without realizing it. When this happens, you will give all of your power back to your Ex, and will have to start all over again with Step 1.

Step 6 is often tricky, because if you master each step up to this point, your Ex may very well want to reconcile. At the very least, your Ex will begin responding to the kindness you send their way in a positive fashion. But regardless if you want to get back together with your Ex, just be friends, or just get over the obsessive thinking – remember your sole purpose is to realize who you are, restore your sense of balance, and reclaim your personal power. If you do all of this work just to manipulate your Ex into responding the way you want them to, it may work for a very short period of time. But I guarantee your Ex will pick up on the fact that your intentions are not genuine, and you will lose your personal power. Not only that, but when you genuinely become who you are, you attract the right kind of people to your life. And maybe your Ex is not the person you are meant to be with! And the only way you will know if you are meant to be with your Ex or anyone else is if you are genuinely who you are.

Step 7:

Forgive your Ex, no matter what they did or didn’t do. Unfortunately, it may not be enough at this point to say, “I forgive my ex.” And leave it at that. Forgiveness has little to do with words, and more to do with action. Before proceeding with this step, I recommend reading up on the topic of forgiveness, and reading heroic stories about the power of forgiveness. I once read a story about a woman whose daughter was brutally raped and murdered by a man that was eventually caught and sent to prison. As anyone can imagine, the woman spent years of her life in rage and obsession over what this man had done to her daughter. I am sure there are no words to express how much pain this woman was feeling. However, she somehow stumbled on a book entitled, The Course of Miracles and began reading about what the power of forgiveness could do for her. She started to pray for the man, and eventually sent him a letter, letting him know she had forgiven him for the actions he took against her daughter, even though she didn’t condone his behavior. To make a long story short, the man wrote the woman back and apologized profusely. The woman felt compelled to see this young man in prison, and she held him as he cried during their first visit. To make a long story short, they became friends, and she became his number one advocate in attempts to release him from prison.

There are not a lot of people walking on the planet as courageous as this woman, but it is an extreme example of what is possible within each one of us. I thought about this woman before I reached out to my Ex with forgiveness in my heart. I sent a gift to my Ex and the woman my Ex left me for, which seemed to pale in comparison to this woman’s story. Of course, it took me a little over a year to reach that point, and a lot of soul searching. To this day, I love my Ex with all of my heart on a platonic level. We live in two totally different cities, but still call and send each other emails on occasion as good friends.

I am also in a healthy relationship with someone I am deeply in love with. Next week will be our two year anniversary. I do not think I would be as happy and as deeply in love with this new person as I am now, had I not let go of the anger, bitterness, and resentment I once felt towards my Ex, which is another reason why forgiveness is so important.

A lot of people believe turning off your feelings for a person you once were in a romantic relationship with, or even hating them is a way to show that they are “over” the person. But I believe the exact opposite is true. When you are completely “over” a person, you really wish them nothing but the best – and you are totally detached emotionally from how they act or react. Another point to consider is the fact that love isn’t real unless you loved your Ex for the person they are, not the person you wanted them to be. And just because the romantic relationship didn’t work out, doesn’t mean your Ex isn’t a lovable person.

Research suggests empowered people believe they are taller than they are.

This is not an article that in any way is meant to disparage people who are of a certain height … or shall we say, lack a certain height. Keeping that in mind, a research project in the U.S. has found that people who experience a sense of power may actually feel taller.

So, for example, if a person who is in fact 5 foot, 4 inches in height is in a situation where he or she accomplishes something great – say, excels in a sporting event or brings a successful business engagement to a profitable conclusion – he or she may actually feel an inch or two taller than they actually are.

Feelings of Empowerment and Height

It’s long been known, or believed, that taller people feel themselves to be physically imposing or more so than their shorter colleagues and friends. But, in this research it’s the smaller person that can actually come to believe they are taller. In addition, the research demonstrates how a feeling of power can have a psychological effect in terms of a person’s view of himself or herself.

To arrive at their conclusions, the researchers experimented with 266 men and women. They assigned each of the volunteers, based on their height, to a video game avatar – a computer generated animated figure. From there the researchers were able to explore the relationship between the physical and psychological experiences of power. The research is continuing.

Lord it Over Others?

The researchers are still looking at how the feeling of height determines how people act. For example, does feeling taller mean a shorter person will seek to use their perceived advantage to lord it over others? Does feeling taller make a person less empathic? Do they feel different and act differently toward others who are actually the same height as they?

There are even more numerous questions to be asked as a result of this research. Do people who are shorter maintain different wardrobes for times when they perceive themselves to be taller or shorter? How long do their feelings of empowerment last? Are they likely to be conducting meetings or conversations with an “in your face” attitude only to find a short time later that they are actually staring at the other person’s Adam’s apple?

Again, not to disparage anyone, but this seems to be a research effort that requires a word of caution for those who might take their feelings of height to new depths.

Understanding some of the main sources of violence in the workplace - internal and external; power and lack of control on power - will help prevent the different types of workplace violence that occur.

There is no simple reason as to why workplace violence occurs but rather many factors that come together to produce trouble, yet often violence can be prevented by understanding why it occurs. People go to work to earn money to pay their bills and try to live a comfortable life. When most people think of violence, images of movies, television shows and maybe even bar fights may come to mind. The last place they might think of for violence to occur is the workplace. There can be many contributing factors that can result in workplace violence. This article is going to discuss some of those factors.

Poor security systems

Workplace violence that originates from outside the organization is often due to poor security systems. Workplaces are targets for criminals a thieves and without a sound security system employees will be targets for criminals. They may experience physical and verbal violence even risking life while on the job. The violence stems from outside greed that seeks to own resources the employee is tending.

Personal issues

It is said that you should leave your personal life outside of the workplace. That is sometimes easier said than done. No matter how hard one tries, emotional issues are carried with a person everywhere they go. It can become difficult to juggle the personal issues with job responsibilities.

Conflicting personalities

Some people simply cannot get along. Personalities may clash and in some cases, they may end up acting out violently toward each other. It is sad to say it, but sometimes people just do not like each other, for no apparent reason. This is not a reason for abuse, but it does happen.

Lack of control on management

Workplace violence that stems from a manager wielding power over juniors often arises from lack of proper controls on management. Positions of power need to be monitored and scrutinized to ensure that power is not abused. Lack of scrutiny and no system of accountability for managers stimulates violence towards juniors. The violence arises from positions of power being abused.

Stress

Many jobs can be extremely stressful and take a toll on employees. Tempers flare and people can over react to even the smallest thing. When faced with deadlines, multiple projects/duties and cranky clients/customers every time you go to work, it is easy to see how quickly stress can build. When a person does not have a proper outlet to release their stress, they can snap, so to speak.

Understanding some of the main sources of violence in the workplace – internal and external; power and lack of control on power – will help prevent the different types of workplace violence that occur. These are just some of the factors that can cause workplace violence to occur. It is never acceptable to act out violently on someone. No one deserves to be the victim of violence in the workplace or anywhere else

When there is an announcement of a hike in petrol and diesel prices there is a huge public dissatisfaction but when the other governments increase the prices of bread, eggs, vegetables and milk, the public are nowhere near to raise their voices. Is the recent hike in milk by the Government of Karnataka justified when many children are suffering from malnutrition and when many women have been unable to breast feed their children these days. The politicians would not feel the pinch but we the citizens have to take this with a pinch of salt. Is this the only increase which we citizens would have, No!! as there will be other more New Year Gifts to follow by hiking power and water tariffs with a month or so!!

Public Voice Needed To Fight For Their Own Rights

When the Centre government announces an increase in Petrol and Diesel there has been a huge voice and public dissatisfaction over this but when the prices of Bread, Eggs, Vegetables and hike increased in milk prices in Karnataka recently, it is quite strange that these people have kept ‘mum’ on all of these commodities. The KMF authorities and dealers had demanded an increase of Rs.5 in Milk while the Government of Karnataka had increased the price of Milk by Rs.3. The politicians would keep increasing the prices without looking into the welfare of the common people. If it is so, what’s the difference between the Congress and the BJP parties? Is there even a slight difference between the two? The politicians would not feel the pinch of this increase but we people have to bear the price and take this with a pinch of salt. When there is malnutrition prevailing all around and when most women are not able to breast feed their children which is also prevalent in Bangalore, the Garden city including Karnataka, is it right for the Karnataka government to give in to the demand of the KMF authorities and dealers!!

Moreover, after a month or so we the people will also be presented with a number of New Year Gifts such as a hike in power tariffs as well as for water too without a so called increase in the basic pay of the employees and the age old pensioners living in the Garden city and whenever these issues crop up, there is usually a delay in implementing these and these are tried to be pushed under the covers wherein the people are left to fend for themselves. Poor pensioners and hard earned money workers!!

Moving on to traveling, traveling in the Garden city has not been that easy where it is quite difficult to travel from one locality to the other as there has been less frequency of buses plying on the roads of Bangalore and those which do ply are mainly overcrowded with people standing on the footboards of these, unmindful of the accidents in front of them. Traffic Jams of vehicles including those created by people themselves if their vehicle is slightly hit and and pounce on one another in the middle of the road of this high bustling traffic that follows on wherein this also leads to unnecessary traffic jams. Moreover the traffic authorities in the Garden city are not interested in inculcating road sense among the road users and we do see a number of vehicles exceeding the city speed limits and jumping signals including the Karnataka Government vehicles. To one’s own surprise it’s also interesting to note that the traffic signals in the Garden city are not synchronized properly too. The Metro Rail has been a total failure in the city as most people like to travel by two wheelers and by their four wheelers. Most of them also prefer to travel by autos and they are also ready to pay extra to these auto drivers to reach them to their destination when they find there is no other way for them as they have to reach thie destination on time and these people would like to keep away from the police as well as from court cases as most of these autos are been owned by a number of politicians. The Metro Rail in the city has not even served its purpose as it has not eased congestion and is only been used by the people during the weekends to travel to their favourite hang outs.

When it comes to the political parties whether be the Congress, the BJP or the JD (S) these parties like to mint money while they are in office within the little time they have so that they and their children can lead a wealthy life. The Congress party is reeling under scams while the BJP has not been quite strong and gives in to others even to the aspect of price hike of various commodities and of internal bickering which does prevail in the party too.

When we people have a number of Rights which has been prescribed to us shouldn’t we fight for these Rights of ours?? Is not the Right of an individual to voice his opinion? Where do these lead us to? Aren’t we tired of the price increase, the way and the way we travel to earn our hard earned money and now hasn’t the time come for us to fight for our Rights indeed and the first step is to come out in the open for the elderly, the old and the youngsters and raise their voices for the politicians to lend them an ear.

Moreover it is now left to the youngsters to save our Motherland India rather than whiling away their time by making fun of others and they can start the impossible too as to create a new political party but would these youngsters even try to take the first step?

The answer we all know is, ‘Never’ and why should they the trouble on the first hand?
