Why are some "sins" okay and others are not?

We have seen some sins condoned or ignored and others magnified in the current race for the
Republican candancy.

I”ve never followed politics very closely until 2008. If anythng positive has come out of Barack Obama’s Presidency, it is it has broght a new interest for me and possibly for many others about the business of governing our Great Nation.

And now as we are narrowing down to logically only two candidates for the Republican ticket, what is transpiring between Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich strikes me as really queer.

Mr. Romney is a very wealth man, who is unscupulous in how he uses this wealth. Consider the vicious, falsehoods he has levied at Newt Gingrich. He impresses me as a desperate man totally out of control with nothing to stand on but to contrive blantant lies about his opponent, Mr. Gingrich. Numerous sources have brought these accusations to light as being misconceptions and in many cases outright lies.

Why do lies and falshoods attract smart, intelligent people, indeeed patriots who love this Country, into total belief? Yes, so many have swallowed these lies “hood-lin-and-sinker”, Wake up folks, the bacon is burning! What a qeer situation this is!

Even queerer, is so many have expressed the fact they believe Mitt Romney is the “safer” candidate. Safer from what? How can anyone believe the ruthless, viciousness Mr. Romney has displayed is safe? Even his wife has stated that they were never convervatives. And Mitt’s professional records prove this. Why is it that Newt’s past marital problems become the BIG moral sin of the century?

I suppose a man who believes homesexuals have a right to participate in the boy scouts constitutes no moral issue? Neither does a repeated stand for aqbortion. And of course, bearing false witness against another, as Mit Romney as done repeatedly with Newt Gingrich isn’t so bad, huh? No moral sin here? God’s Word, the Bible, is clear on all these issues as being sins….and any sin is a moral issue.

What really strikes me as totally queer is these points of view, actions, and opinions of Mitt Romney directly relate to his character. If he is going to flip floop on issues he has supported all his professional career, how do we know he won’t flip flop back to these liberal beliefs should he become president? Frankly with the weakness demonstrated by Mitt Romney, as evidenced by him stooping to sinful tactics as falsehoods as the only means he seems to possess for trying to beat Newt Gingrich, I doubt seriously if he can beat Barack Obama. President Obama has him beat in this department!

The moral issue of Newt Gingrich is a serious matter for most Evangelicals. But based on testimony from several well respected Evangelical clergy, and the backing of the American Family Association, it seems clear that Mr. Gingrich has confessed these short comings (sins) and has taken them to the only One who can forgive him. Why are we allowing someone like Mitt Romney to bash Newt Gingrich over the head, yes, as Sarah Palin said, “crucify” him, when Almighty God has forgiven him of these trangressions? Are we bigger than God? This attitude, is also queer.

And queer too is condoning Mitt Romney’s sins by backing him for a candidate for President of the United States, when the very existence of freedom, liberty. justice – our entire American way of life – hangs perilously by a very thin thread.

I've always had an opinion but was too shy to share it. Not any more!

REVOLUTION?

Why is it that when cuts need to be made — it’s the poor or the seniors that have to pay the price? Why is social security the ‘entitlement’ that republicans always target? We the poor — barely recognizable ‘middle class’ have bailed out the rich — year after year. We bail out their banks — we bail out their corporations — we pay them not to plant crops — we pay them to drill for oil and gas the richest resources that we have — then turn around and pay them the highest prices for the final product. Why do we constantly hear that Medicare — Social Security and Medical Coverage is too expensive — but the research and development of better war toys is something none of us can live without? I am so sick and tired of the entire political circus. We have idiots running for president and idiots stopping any forward progress that our first decent president in years is trying to implement.

When Bush won the presidency in 2000 I predicted that America was on its way to “hell in a hand basket.” And sadly to say, I was right. Visions of France when the peasants were told to eat cake come to mind. The French Revolution (1789–1799), was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France that had a major impact on France and indeed all of Europe. The absolute monarchy that had ruled France for centuries collapsed in three years. French society underwent an epic transformation as feudal, aristocratic and religious privileges evaporated under a sustained assault from radical left-wing political groups, masses on the streets, and peasants in the countryside. Old ideas about tradition and hierarchy – of monarchy, aristocracy and religious authority – were abruptly overthrown by new Enlightenment principles of equality, citizenship and inalienable rights.(Wikipedia)

Is that really where were headed? Probably not but then again I know the first list of aristocrats I would line up at the guillotine. (Yes, I admit it — I am that angry — and I don’t think I’m the only one!)

The ‘aristocrats’ are killing this country — the people with the most — have the least compassion, or empathy — a new class of sociopaths (someone whose personality makes them behave in ways that are dangerous to other people). This is more dangerous and frightening to me than any crazy mass murderer that ever lived because it applies to such an influential group of individuals. These are people who have mastered the art of propaganda. They simply lie and sadly millions believe it. I always thought education was what made people less sheep like — somehow we have failed to teach folks to think for themselves. Not all folks of course, but a great number — a number that will make this election more scary than the last one.

One such ‘aristocrat’ is a man that I will not name but he owns his own television stations, newspapers etc. and has more money than sense–he tweets that Santorum is a great guy. Suddenly his campaign is making a million a day. A man who is clearly a bigot, a homophobic, and completely clueless to the needs of a nation fighting for its life — yeah that’s what we need for president. Although the way it looks some folks would vote for a robot as long it was made from white metal and not black metal.

I hope I’m wrong — I hope those that folks that slept through the last election — the one where all the republicans won — wake up and make their voices heard! If you snooze through this one our country will sorely suffer!

It seems that some of the Republican candidates are not united in running campaigns that prove positive for the GOP, the candidates themselves and America as a whole.

Is there any unity with any political party in our country? Lately, it seems that some of the Republican candidates that are running to be the GOP nominee for the presidency in 2012 have forgotten what unity means.

Non-unified behavior

As with recent Republican debates, accusations and misgivings about each other have been shared. Some of the candidates are so busy trying to lead above all the others that it seems they say and do non-unified things to get ahead in the polls.

Many people will say that this is the way politicians run for office. Just live with it. Should it be the way that they should run? Aren’t Americans worthy of much more dignity, honor and professionalism in their candidates’ behavior than they are getting?

Candidates should focus on needs of America, not bashing each other

Is this really what we want our candidates focusing on or the news pounding us with day by day? We need candidates that will concentrate on how they can lead our great nation into prosperity and happiness. By focusing on their own strengths and respecting America enough to show us why they each would be great in winning the presidential office, is what we truly need.

It feels as though year after year when it is time for candidates to debate their opponents, they cannot debate without personally attacking each other. Maybe, their own abilities to focus professionally on matters that affect all Americans are not there. Just maybe, these candidates cannot work professionally. It seems that some of them are not showing us that they can.

Candidates should debate about what each can do to help keep our country wonderful and free. They need to show us as voters that they have the experience, desire and ability to get our economy back on its feet. They need to show us that they can resolve such issues as low employment, the housing market instability and foreign policies, especially with handling appropriate terrorist activities.

Americans deserve more from our candidates

If the Republican party, as well as other parties debated without focusing on personally attacking each other, than maybe we would see each and every one of their strengths and abilities. The debates would show us which candidate can focus and follow through on problems that affect all Americans and do a terrific job as the President of our United States. In essence, some of these candidates are showing that they want to win anyway they can. That is not America. We are a proud nation and want to show that, regardless.

...

DUBLIN (AP) — Michael D. Higgins, a veteran left-wing politician, poet and human rights activist, was declared the winner Saturday of Ireland’s presidential election with nearly 57 percent of votes, and pledged to lift the spirits of a struggling nation.

Higgins said he wanted to help revive the public’s faith in politicians at a time when Ireland faces record debts, a property market collapse, 15 percent unemployment and a fourth staight year of severe spending cuts.

The diminutive Higgins, 70, beamed with pride as he received congratulations inside Dublin Castle from government leaders and most rival candidates. He announced he would resign immediately as president and member of the Labour Party, the junior member of Ireland’s coalition government, because his new role as ceremonial head of state meant he must be “a president for all the people.”

Higgins received more than 1 million votes of the nearly 1.8 million cast in Thursday’s election. Referring to the 43 percent of registered voters who didn’t cast a ballot, he said, “I want to be a president, too, for those who didn’t vote, whose trust in public institutions I will encourage and work to recover. … I dedicate my abilities to the service and welfare of the people of Ireland.”

Once Higgins is inaugurated as president Nov. 11, he becomes Ireland’s senior ambassador, tasked with building confidence at home and goodwill abroad.

The Irish president wields no government power beyond the ability to refer potentially unconstitutional legislation to Ireland’s Supreme Court. But the presidency enjoys considerable freedom to shape Ireland’s rapidly secularizing society by bringing different groups together at his Phoenix Park residence and traveling the world expressing his vision of what it should mean to be Irish in the 21st century.

Higgins is a former Galway university lecturer and published poet who has dedicated his four-decade political career to championing Irish culture and left-wing human rights causes worldwide. He also is one of Ireland’s most instantly recognized politicians, in part, because of his 5-foot-4 (1.63 meter) stature and much-imitated high voice. Local satirists sometimes depict him as an elf, hobbit or leprechaun talking in riddles and verse.

Higgins served as arts minister in the mid-1990s, during which he launched tax breaks for film production in Ireland and a new TV channel to promote programming in Gaelic, Ireland’s native but little-spoken language. Higgins, who has roots in the rural western counties of Clare and Galway, is fluent.

Saturday’s result capped a two-day count of ballots to determine who would succeed Mary McAleese, Ireland’s popular president since 1997. She said Higgins’ win opens “an exciting chapter for … our global Irish family.”

Diarmaid Ferriter, professor of modern history at University College Dublin, said it was striking that Ireland had elected a politician who for decades had been “a thorn in the side of the establishment” — and now was the official face of Ireland. He said Higgins’ triumph reflected voter anger at right-wing politicians who had brought Ireland to the brink of bankruptcy.

“The idea that the Irish have elected a poet with a social conscience, with a track record in human rights, that’s a very positive development,” Ferriter said.

Higgins’ victory was assured after partial results Friday gave him an unassailable lead versus six other candidates, all of whom conceded defeat long before the final result. Most joined Higgins on stage to praise him, including entrepreneur and reality TV judge Sean Gallagher, who came in second, and former Irish Republican Army commander Martin McGuinness, who came in third.

“Michael D. will be a very, very fine president. He’s a man of great intellectual capacity and a man with a huge heart,” said McGuinness, deputy leader of the Irish nationalist Sinn Fein party.

McGuinness, 61, stepped aside as deputy leader of the unity government in the British territory of Northern Ireland so that he could enter the Irish presidential race, a surprise move that shook up the campaign.

He faced stern questioning over his past leadership of the IRA, an outlawed group that killed nearly 1,800 people before calling a 1997 cease-fire. In 2007, he led Sinn Fein into a power-sharing government with Northern Ireland’s British Protestant majority in fulfillment of the territory’s 1998 peace accord. McGuinness is expected to resume his position as the senior Irish Catholic in that government Nov. 7.

Analysts credit McGuinness with playing a key role in Higgins’ victory — by badly damaging the front runner, Gallagher, in the campaign’s last live TV debate Monday. At the time, Gallagher, best known as a judge on an Irish TV competition for business entrepreneurs, was 15 points ahead of Higgins in polls.

McGuinness confronted Gallagher with allegations that he had been heavily involved in collecting undocumented cash donations from businessmen for Fianna Fail. The long-governing party suffered a historic defeat in February after being blamed for the collapse of Ireland’s Celtic Tiger boom and last year’s humiliating international bailout.

McGuinness cited a conversation he’d just had with one such donor, a convicted border fuel smuggler, who claimed to have handed euro5,000 ($7,000) — the maximum permitted without being publicly declared under Ireland’s corruption laws — to Gallagher in 2008. Gallagher stumbled in his denial, eliciting incredulous laughter from the audience, and never recovered.

A satirical political news item.

In a remarkable and unexpected move, presidential hopefuls Donald Trump and Governor Sarah Palin have decided to join their political camps for a daring dash to secure the 2012 presidency. The brash move was announced this morning via satellite from their secluded aerie high in the Alaska Range. There, they have reportedly created a massive compound that will house the twosome, along with their entourages and advisers.

“There is much more to this than mere political planning”, one anonymous insider said. “They’ve decided to call themselves the ‘Dynamic Duo.’ They have far surpassed what was initially proposed. They have even allegedly adopted pet names for each other. Ms. Palin is his ‘Loquacious Lover’ and she calls him her ‘Trumpet’. This is only hearsay, and I quote, ‘She can blow a mean tune. And, when she calls, he comes.”

“There has been no decision yet as to who will run for president and who will be vice-president. The odds are that Ms. Palin will run, and Mr. Trump will be her vice. As Ms. Palin was reported to have said in private, “Hell, a woman’s gotta have at least one vice.”

There has been nothing officially announced, but anonymous insiders and local Alaskan caterers are adamant that the rumor is real. If true, this would be the first time Trump has succumbed to playing ’second fiddle’ in any band. Both known for their aggressive personalities, this odd couple coupling would seem possible, but Trump taking Palin’s backseat seems a far stretch.

The Trump-Palin compound and candidacy are being called Trumplin and will incorporate advisers and present office nominations from both camps. It is unknown what their platform will be. However, it has been hinted that the platform will be based on preparations for planet Earth’s welcoming of the “imminent visitation by Aliens” in 2012. Governor Palin has always been a believer in extraterrestrial intelligence and “has been watching her Mayan calendar” for a few years. Trump has reportedly been walking around saying “Your fired” in the expectation that he will be the henchman, should things go awry.

Political gamemanship damaging our government's credibility and our own way of life.

Remember when we were all Americans despite which political party we supported? It is just getting to be downright depressing when I read online about yet one more reason I avoid talking about government with my kids regarding their future. When did it become acceptable to be obstructive just for obstruction’s sake?

During the George W. Bush Administration, all three branches of government strongly swayed to the right, and even the democrats that were elected to office generally approved of most bills that came Congress’s way. The only exceptions really that I can recall might have been confirmation fights over judges. But otherwise, spending bills passed (remember, it was under President Clinton that the budget impasse occurred).

President Obama was fairly elected and with more than just a passing margin. I am curious as an American who can appreciate conservative principles but NOT conservative politics, why it has become acceptable to be the “party of NO” when we the people, have elected President Obama to lead us.

When the United States was first founded, it took a while for them to concede to even have a President at all. It was believed that having one central executive figure would be too much like having a king - something they still shuddered at the thought of. Well, in terms of how kingdoms tend to inspire legends, they were at least partly right - quite a bit of folklore has grown up around the office of President. Let's get to the bottom of some of these and sort the truth from the balderdash.

Did Jimmy Carter see a UFO?

Well, the former President certainly seemed to think he did. He filed a report with the Center for UFO Studies in Evanston, Illinois, in September of 1973. The report claimed that in October, 1969, Mr. Carter and a group of a dozen people spotted a hovering object in the sky. For a period of between ten and twelve minutes, it slowly changed in color, size, and brightness, before it disappearing from view, apparently by retreating into the sky. Later analysis has it that what was witnessed was the planet Venus and some peculiar atmospheric conditions that made it look funny. Typically.

Did Ronald Reagan believe in astrology?

In a word, no. His wife and First Lady Nancy Reagan did, however. Chief of staff Donald Regan revealed that Nancy would consult with an astrologer when setting up travel plans. This got hooked by the media who made it sound like Ronald himself was directing national policy out of the newspaper astrology columns. Reagan himself said of the incident, “The media are behaving like kids with a new toy – never mind that there is no truth to it.” It is suspected that Nancy Reagan developed a superstitious fear of her husband traveling after the attempt at his assassination.

Are Presidents members of a secret “Skull and Bones” society?

No, but a few of our Presidents and Presidential candidates have been members. Despite the ominous name, “Skull and Bones” is one of dozens of collegiate secret societies, which are really nothing but high-society frat clubs for graduates, and it is even only one of eleven current secret societies at Yale University. Rest assured that the sole purpose of a college-based secret society is to make people wonder why you have one and what goes on in there. “Skull and Bones” is very well-documented in online references, complete with pictures of their meeting place. The rumors fly around about their supposed rituals, but if they don’t like that, they have no one to blame but themselves for their silly game.

Was there a curse on Presidents elected in a zero year?

The legend of the curse grew up around the fact that, indeed, seven Presidents in a row who were elected in years ending in zeroes did die in office, four from assassinations and three from natural causes. That would be enough to make anyone leery. Reagan, however, was elected in 1980 and survived his terms and long after as well, so whatever “curse” there was may now be considered broken.

Does the taller candidate win the election?

This myth has been investigated and debunked, with hard evidence to bust it, but people still think that there is a statistical bias towards taller candidates. While there is evidence at this point that winning candidates have an inch or two on average over the loser, people seem to forget that the small sample is likely to produce skewed results. We have only had 43 presidents of the United States so far, and in a statistical sample that short, you could make up almost any hypothesis about winners vs. losers – the one with the longest name, the one with the darker suit, the one with a fuller head of hair – and find some justification. There’s also a theory that white males from rich families always win elections, which is so far slightly more sustainable.

Did Zachary Taylor die from eating a bowl of cherries?

The conditions surrounding his demise in office are certainly poorly documented. The cause of death is officially “cholera morbus” which pretty much includes food poisoning from bacteria, cholera, dysentery, and other illnesses from eating a nasty bug or spoiled food. The diagnosis held even after an autopsy in which he was exhumed to rule out assassination. Remember that it was the mid-1800’s, and food safety and sanitation practices weren’t very modern. Heat stroke has also been cited as a factor, since he was attending a July 4th celebration at the time he fell ill. In any case, just before he died he did eat cherries, along with some milk, green apples, and pickled cucumbers, so it might have been any of those.

The sad story of Osama Hussein Obama.

Yes, we can?

The sad story of Osama Hussein Obama

In 2008 the world looked great. After the awful Presidency of Mr. George W. Bush, things finally seemed to turned in a new direction. “Yes, we can!” was the sentence of a generation it seemed, its leader being the new President of the most powerful country in the world.

In his youthful campaign and his many inspirational speeches, Obama showed the world that not all Americans are illiterate morons and rhetorical idiots. He spoke of an America that promoted peace rather than war, that let her soldiers come back home from Iraq and Afghanistan, that cared for other countries as well as for her own and that was going to be a role model for all other countries in the world.

His election pledges included not only the topics that were promised by any candidate in any election such as Tax breaks or new jobs, but also things of international interest such as the closing of the high security prison Guantanamo Bay, the stop of military action in both Iraq and Afghanistan, the environment and the implication of a general health care system that anyone would have access to.

Even though I’m still relatively young, I can’t remember any presidential campaign that received more attention or was looked on more positively from people all over the world. It went so far that even our school’s graduation motto was “yes, we can”.

Unfortunately it seemed to many Americans that the implication of a general health care was premature. Also unfortunately it seemed the only thing Obama cared about for the first two years of his Presidency. Understandably, his poll ratings were plummeting and reaching a record low of only 46% approval of his citizens.

I think that in order to get out of the “obamacare”- disaster Obama is shifting his political position towards a more centered or even slightly republican stance.

Let us first of all look at the issue of military action in Afghanistan. Obama had promised to get the American soldiers out of Afghanistan shortly after he got elected President. Though he has pulled out most of the battle troops, 50.000 American soldiers remain in Afghanistan.

Secondly, the issue of Osama bin Laden. On May second, Obama authorized a killing mission raiding Osama’s hiding place in Pakistan, killing him and three other people. In my opinion killing Bin Laden was the easy way out as it did not lead to further complications and the chapter could be closed for the American people. It most definitely did him good in a way that it shut up the many Americans that have been questioning his aggressiveness towards terrorism and that bumped up his poll ratings by 11%.

To me that seems to be a very cruel thing to do for a Nobel Peace Price recipient just to get back some of his voters and does not represent the moral high road that he supposedly stands for.

Also the closing of Guantanamo Bay which was of high importance in his election campaign, as it illegally kept prisoners without allowing them a fair trial, has not happened yet. Especially after the killing of bin Laden, voices are rising making the case for the upkeep of the high security prison, as evidence obtained in that prison in the end lead to the killing of bin Laden.

Furthermore, the issue of saving the environment by reducing the emissions of greenhouse gasses has totally failed which can partially be explained by the missing support in the House of Representatives that is controlled by the Republican party but also it seems that it hasn’t been one of the important things on his agenda during his Presidency.

All in all, the health care implication cost Obama many voters, especially in the more Republican areas, and it therefore is probably smart to avoid controversial topics such as Guantanamo Bay at the moment though in my opinion it is opportunistic and therefore not what President Obama and the slogan “Yes, we can”, should be about.

Expressing my feelings about the 2012 elections, primarily regarding Sarah Palin.

Okay, so I thought the nightmare of worrying about Sarah Palin running for President/Vice President would be over 2 years ago when McCain lost the election. Unfortunately, I have seen several headlines stating she is preparing her election for 2012. Is she running for President this time? I thought her running for Vice Presidency was bad enough. The fact that her being a heart attack away from Presidency was frightening enough, that it encouraged most Americans to go for what they thought would be the ‘lesser of two evils.’

Do we really want someone governing our country that does not believe in stem cell research? When it has been proven to in fact, cure most ailments that we never had cures for before? Is it a position that we want filled by someone who does not believe dinosaurs existed when there is cold hard facts proving it, such as fossils?? She does not admit to wanting to ban science from schools, but in fact, encourages the teaching of religion. I thought America was about freedom. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion.. how could we teach religion in schools without it afflicting or impinging on people who have opposing views?

Do we want someone running our country who will encourage and support schools NOT to teach sex ed, therefore making our future generations more ignorant to the diseases and early pregnancies our country is already facing as a major problem with adolescents? How is that not viewed as hypocritical, when her daughter was impregnated at a young age, and went on to have the child but seems to participate in every single commercial, PSA, ad, or show to increase her visibility as a pseudo celebrity (such as dancing with the stars). When does she have time to spend with her child? (I also want to note that her PSA for abstinence was extremely demeaning and pretty much implied that her situation would not be so great if she did not possess the amount of money she has). Furthermore, how is it not hypocritical or just plain horrible that Palin does not approve of stem cell research or aid for disabled children when one of her own children is Autistic? Does she only view her situation and not extend her views to others? Other parents cannot afford the medical care and attention it costs to care for a mentally disabled or physically disabled child. You would think if she was in the same boat, she would feel a certain way. Further exemplifying she is not in the same boat as most citizens and only selfishly thinks of her own situation.

Not only have the entirety of Palin’s family, exemplified that they are more interested in becoming celebrities than political figures, but have embraced almost every aspect of celebrity life. Palin has written a book about her life (who cares?), starred in a show about Alaska (also, who cares?), and her daughter has starred on dancing with the stars. None of the above having any positive influence or effect on America or the American people. Only to bring in more money to a family, who obviously needs no help with that.

Also, I am appalled at her feelings toward animals. I can not believe that ‘people were put on this earth to eat everything,’ nor do I believe it is essential to our life, to consume all animals on this earth. That is such a selfish thought. One that goes with her religious views and one I completely and utterly disagree with. Animals did not just ‘SHOW UP,’ one day, by the grace of God. Sorry to those who believe that, but they did not. It is PROVEN (aka there is actual true facts, that you can see with your eyes, that explains where they came from). They were tiny micro organisms, that evolved with time (there is scientific proof of this, even if she wants to deny or try to ignore it). Long before humans even existed, animals inhabited this earth. Her ignorance would put a stop to not only scientific research that helps to discovers things from millions of years ago that would otherwise be unknown to us, but could open the doors to future findings including space travel and finding other life forces in our universe. Her ignorance would also put a complete stop to any scientific breakthroughs of cures for diseases, that exist now or that will be discovered in the future.

I read an article that was released recently, stating Sarah Palin released her private emails, with important information redacted (of course), to prove that she was a legitimate and passionate Governor for Alaska. I cannot seem to make a connection to emails, and passionate Governor, but I digress. Although they express her emails to be in grand mass, I still believe quality, overrides quantity any day. Until they find some actual evidenciary proof that she is smarter than she lets on, or unless her views on animals and most everything else changes, I will not be voting for her or anyone related to her political party.

If she is truly elected for President, or even Vice President in 2012 (or ever), I for one, will be glad they did not ban guns, for I will want to shoot myself in the head.

Anyone with me on this?

JOHN BRUTON NOT TO RUN FOR PRESIDENCY

John burton had been tipped for a candidate for the presidency but this afternoon John Bruton, the former Fine Gael leader has said that he would not be contesting the presidency.

He was highly tipped for replacing the current President Mary Macaleese ( as shown below ) however he wont now as he is not running in this what is already a very crowded field of candidates.

….So let’s just take a look at the other Fine Gael candidates for the presidency….

Mairead McGuinness
