Some authors argue that pride is a moral virtue. Well, is this actually false. According to the principles of Total Quality Management, humility is the mother of all virtues whereas pride is slightly attributed to downfall of the character. This means pride is an attribute that comes before and after a fall. A man who’s about to sink in life has great shortcoming of an unexpected downfall soon. Pride is basically very much ego driven. Just like how ego affects our character and destroys our inner traits of virtues within us, similarly pride is also a main reason for lapse in one’s character. Humility unlike pride blesses us where as pride just impresses. A person who’s too proud turns soon into an arrogant person who is not only haughty but thinks he is the best of all. This ego-driven quality tarnishes one’s own image.

So my dear friends beware of the quality of pride as it destroys its own soul. However, humility dressed in pride always makes progress.

Thoughts on Christmas.

I know that many have their own celebrations during this time

of the year but I feel that for those of us who do celebrate

Christ and what this season means, we should not feel the need

to hide or disguise ourselves. Be proud of who you are and celebrate

this holiday season the same as those around us boldly celebrate

their religous views.

Being an American is supposed to mean something, isn’t it? Americans stand up and

produce. We are not know for being afraid or cowering down. So if we are strong and

committed to our causes let’s remain committed.

What is this talk about the Holiday Tree, Tree of Lights, Or whatever we are calling

the Christmas Tree now. It is a CHRISTMAS TREE, it is called a CHRISTMAS TREE because

it is about Jesus Christ and his birth, THE TRUE LIGHT. The giving of gifts and many other things that we

celebrate at this time of year, well that is man made. Christmas is about Christ and the gift

that Our Father, God gave to us, his son JESUS.

I don’t want to get into it too much but just let me say this. Be who you are and be proud of it!

They are about something asking them to advise, and they do that at all and do not want to buy absolutely the right thing, go where, notoriously known to be uninteresting and boring. And sometimes the opposite: denying yourself is what you dreamed about, if only to give pleasure to someone else.
You are invited to the party, which does not want to go, but you’re going, because so eager friends. All around you are smoking and you, too – why stand and go against the company? Especially this behavior is typical for adolescents: it is cold outside, but they do not wear the hat – is now out of fashion, they like collecting stamps, listening to classical music, but they spend hours talking about computers or bought, as all tickets for the pop- concert. So adrift, letting others decide what to do.
Being “all” – convenient, because the responsibility for actions is shared among all. It is believed that there are other “advantages”:
• You are always right, because all the same;
• you have many friends who are easy to communicate with you;
• you have no risk to amass enemies;
• all think you are good and courteous, in his blackboard.
However, this is not the best way to create and maintain deep relationship of trust between people.
First, because if all the time to speak only what they want to hear from you, you may lose credibility.
Secondly, you can deprive yourself of the right to build their own lives, that is, freedom of choice.
Third, you and your opinion finally stopped being considered, but to change the process much more difficult than to refuse the first time.
“Of course, this is not about me – tell someone – I always know how to insist on his. My desires for me – the law. I am ready to argue with anyone, but it will in my opinion. ” Yes, such a position, of course, speaks of inner strength. But friends have such a man, quite frankly, not much, unless of course they all are.
So what to do and act to and were good friends, and myself not to forget? How do I get to listen to your opinion?
In such cases, it is important to understand who and how to say no. After all, the situation may be different, as well as the reasons for refusal.
This is different “no”:
1. The unconditional, unequivocal “no” – when you offer to do what is contrary to your principles and ideals (”No Drugs”, “no war”). In case of failure may even sharpness and roughness.
2. “No” – the circumstances – when you already have obligations to other people. Enough to explain the reason for refusal.
3. Coquettish “no” – they usually have girls who like it when their long sought. Even burning desire, they are forced to languish for a long time boyfriend, anticipating the coveted appointment. Frequently, a “no” – one of the ways light flirting. But in the end of a temporary infatuation novel grows into an intimate relationship.
There is a variety of coquettish “no” – manipulative “no” – when the failure trying to obtain from the person wants.
4. Labor ‘no’ – when a person is more persistent than you, persuading you to do what you do not want to. In this case, you can resort to diplomacy, but it can only to those who have a clear internal position: there is a goal and ways to achieve it. There is another option, you have the choice of tactics – like cures like. And do not be afraid to lose the location persuader: he will turn his attention to the more pliable, have their way, and immediately forget all the differences with you. Usually, such people regard the refusal only as an obstacle in achieving the desired, so the object of manipulation does not matter. Important for them to get their way, so you need to send their energy in another direction.
To determine when, how and to whom to say no easily, if one adheres to the following positions:
4 is always free to express their point of view;
4 take into account the opinion of others;
4 do not be afraid to enter into a dispute, but not to make verbal duel;
4 to listen to their desires;
4 Know the purpose and possibilities of achieving it.
The main thing – to be consistent and persistent, and you will succeed in the art of saying no. “

How the Penn State fiasco has changed people's thoughts.

We, as a society, rarely seem to stand together against anything anymore. One thing we always stand firmly together on is child abuse. To many of us, committing a crime against a child is the worst thing you can do. Whenever news of a heinous crime surfaces, we are appalled. Our disbelief in the fact that such a crime actually occurred takes over all logical thinking.We condemen anything and anyone associated with such crimes even if they had nothing to do with it.

The alleged sexual abuse committed by Jerry Sandusky is downright horrible. I believe that is something we all can agree upon. He will soon have his day in court that he never had years ago. This time, he has been charged with at least 40 counts. It looks like the case will move forward.Some of the interviews I’ve recently heard from Sandusky are troubling in themselves. If he committed these crimes, he definitely should pay the consequences and his sentence should be lengthy. He should also be required to pay restitution and for counseling.

Now, this is where we all start to disagree.

When fans found out Joe Paterno was fired, chaos ensued. His firing caused many different emotions and opinions. I watched as friendships were ruined because the two were on different sides of the fence. Some people, most with children, believed that Joe Paterno and everyone involved should have been fired. We know that not everyone involved was fired. Did he report it? Yes, he did what he was legally mandated to do. Could he have done more? That’s up to each person to decide. Many fans felt the way his firing was handled was wrong and that the university caved under pressure from the public. Really, the university needed to save face and right some wrongs.

Let’s get some things straight. Joe Paterno was a great football coach with 409 wins. Joe Paterno donated a high monetary amount to the university. If you’re familiar with PSU then you know what Joe Paterno really means to the university. He is part of the reason Penn State became what it is and that can be seen from both sides. So we’ve established that Joe Paterno did a lot of great things and that leads to him being put on a pedestal. Guess what? The man is human! We lifted him so high, as if he were a god. He was doomed to fall from grace eventually for one thing or another. In the public’s eye, he fell hard and was to be condemned.

The students’ reactions to this whole scandal ranged from anger to saddness and pure heartbreak. What the public saw about Penn State was that we were a riotous bunch who didn’t care. There’s no dispute that there was a riot in Happy Valley where students flipped a news van. Who didn’t see that coverage!? I’m not condoning what those students did; however, I am able to somewhat understand. Their emotions got the best of them. They felt as if everything they knew had been turned upside down. Penn State is more than just their school, it’s their life and their pride. Besides the rioters, there was peaceful assembly in Paternoville and other places. Students prayed, sang, discussed their feelings, and ached for the victims. Those actions were rarely seen.

In the wake of this scandal, people have been afraid to wear the Penn State logo. I have been whispered about for wearing my PSU hoodie recently. Someone told me I shouldn’t support such an organization and it became an all out debate. She told me she never wants her children to attend Penn State now and is embarrassed for anyone who has. I asked this person to describe the organization and the only thing she mentioned was the scandal. When a scandal rocked the Catholic Church, did you ask people to stop being Catholic? I don’t think so! It wasn’t all Catholics who committed those heinous crimes. The same rings true for Penn State. Penn State is a highly reputable institution with a great student body. A great deal of important research comes from Penn State. Some things you may have missed, PSU supports the victims and their families. There was a candlelight vigil held for the victims, the medical center was lit up in blue, merchandise was sold to help raise awareness and prevent child abuse, we rocked blue instead of white at the Nebraska game, and we raise money to fight childhood cancer.

I’m sorry, but you can not make me feel shameful about attending Penn State. Penn State is more than JoePa and football. Penn State students know once you go to Penn State; you’re changed for the better. We come together for what we believe in, take pride in ourselves and what is right. I, like many people I know, support the victims. I am all for raising awareness and preventing child abuse, I always have been.

You can go to Stopitnow.org to find out ways to help prevent sexual child abuse and/or donate. I’ve met several victims and it warms their hearts to know that people support them and they are not to blame. Do your part and be aware. Let’s work to become better people and not turn a blind eye. Instead of talking about it, let’s be about it.

A Call for the Formation of the American Race.

I

A Call for the Formation of the American Race

When one first hears the mention of the word “racism”, it is easy for one as an American to imagine the obvious examples in history. The pre-Civil War American South, the Ku Klux Klan, Nazi Germany, or segregation in the 1960’s might come to mind for many Americans regardless of their heritage. Although it might be fair to state that the horrific nature of these memories has left an awful stain on American culture, it is also important that as Americans we realize that it is our social responsibility to reflect and learn from the past. This should be escalated with the hope of creating a better and more solidified future for those that will follow in our footsteps. In doing so, as a culture unto ourselves, we can flourish as a in a unified manner and promote the advancement of the American culture rather than becoming a former great nation that simply “once was.”

At the time of this writing, America has been in the iron grasp of a terrible recession. Our national deficit is higher than ever before in history. Unemployment is also at an all time high. People are organizing in the streets as a part of the “occupy” movement which seems to have no well defined agenda other than to protest the fact that Americans are tired of the close relationship of economics and politics. The current presidency seems all but a “lame duck” administration while the current elected Congress is among the most incompetent to ever be seated. In addition, despite the elimination of many prominent enemies of the United States, terrorism is still an ever looming danger that wearily hangs over our America’s collective head.

In briefly mentioning these issues, one might wonder what it has to do with the subject at hand. The answer is more obvious than it might initially appear. The nation’s current hardship is the point where we now have a bigger issue than the concern over the issue of race. These hard times are not related to color. They are related to a culmination of terrible economic and political situations that have been festering for a long time. In being fair to the reader, it is not the author of these pages to explain why this situation exists, but more important to acknowledge that it does exist.

In relation to these mentioned economic and political problems, it is worth also noting that the nation of China is not only far more economically stable and prosperous than America at this hour of world history, but it also is the largest holder of American debt as well. This is not an attack on the Chinese people or their culture. It is also not an accusation against China for all its ambition. Assuming one is a proud American, one could hardly be able to blame the nation of China for the course it has taken. America has done and would do the same if it were capable. It is, however, worth noting that if China ever called in the debt owed by the American government and its citizens, a crisis could develop that could send America into a conflict that it might not be able to withstand in its divided state. Perhaps being the proverbial “elephant in the room”, China has currently eclipsed America as the “greatest nation in the world” culturally and economically.

This situation as it is could very well be America’s last great test. Given the situation as it stands, a drastic shift in American thought is at hand. It is time for Americans to stop pointing the finger at one another and begin to take personal ownership and responsibility in their own citizenship regardless of the race they were born to. There are issues facing America at the moment that are far greater and much more important than fearing or belittling a person because he or she looks only a little bit different.

This is where as Americans we must strive to better ourselves by becoming more tolerant of others regardless of their race. Instead of promoting suspicion of one’s neighbor, get to know him. Instead of raising a child to shun others of a different race, take the time to explain why there are others that appear different. This is a responsibility that all Americans must take on if cultural improvement is to occur in America in a smooth and civilized manner. This is a call for an end to the finger pointing blame game.

In the past and even in the present, there have often been member of one race or another accusing another of why they have been wronged. I will not specify who has said what about who as doing so will defeat the purpose of this article. What I will state is that such arguments are moot and invalid and there is a simple reason why.

While there are still terrible and unspeakable examples of racism that occur in America even today, these are mainly isolated events often perpetrated by ignorant individuals who have not taken the truth into consideration or are simply unable to due to their lack of comprehension. The truth is that there is no one individual race to blame for anything. If anything, everyone is guilty and no one is innocent. In regards to true organized racism, there are only small pockets of ignorant individuals who completely immerse themselves in such empty ideologies. There has never been once on record any substantiated statements from any racist organization as to the explanation of the real core reason for their burning hatred of the other race. Such an explanation simply doesn’t exist. If anyone reading these pages can find an argument that makes sense from either perspective, this author would very much like to read it and then proceed to point out why the argument carries no real weight. The general population in America, regardless of color can most often see through this kind of hate infused propaganda.

In order to gain some perspective on this issue, one can again look into the past to understand why tolerance should continue to be promoted over maintaining the current status quo. Take into consideration our collective experience on the battlefield. In all the wars that we as Americans have experienced personally and in the news over the past century, it has not been only one race of Americans fighting and dying in battle. While it is true that segregation did exist in the military up until the 1950s, it is also true that there were American troops of all races fighting and sacrificing their lives to achieve the same common goal: the defense of individual liberty.

In realizing this as an individual, it is easy to look back in time and proudly reflect on these sacrifices made by those who came before us. It is not just combatants in war that should be considered in this light, but others as well. While in our past there have been many villains hell bent on the destruction of another race, history is also full of examples of people who were not willing to bow to the accepted institution of racism. John Brown, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, William Lloyd Garrison and many others all come to mind. Although some of these examples mentioned took action in a manner that was more violent in nature than others, they still knew what they stood for and refused to compromise their beliefs.

It is simply time to cast away these negative feelings toward one another as members of opposing races. As reflections into ancient history illustrates, America is not really a nation of opposing races. America is actually one race in an early stage of development. Look to the history of Europe, namely the Roman Empire as an example. As time marched on and cultures collided, a new race was born as people from various cultures combined. While Rome did fall eventually, its time as the most powerful nation in the world was sustained for the longest period of time in history.

Keep in mind, however, that this is not a call for people to feel that their own people’s culture has no value. This is not to say that someone should feel ashamed of whom they are or that one should be criticized to feel pride in one’s own heritage. If one wishes to marry or congregate with one of his or her own race, then that is nothing that should be considered racist. There is also nothing wrong with anyone marrying or congregating with those of another race. It is a matter of personal decision and should not be anything that is looked down upon by anyone. What is wrong, however, is to blame others for their own personal feelings or preference. It is no longer the sentiment of any real compassionate or civilized nation to sustain feelings of animosity toward another based on their color. This is something that simply needs to fade away. After all, wasn’t it not so long ago that someone could own another living human being? This illuminates the point in that social change is truly possible if there are those that are willing to participate in their society in a manner to force such.

It is indeed time to break the negative mold that we have found ourselves in and embrace the situation at hand. If it comes down to it, it will be Americans of all colors banded together to protect our nation in its delicate and perhaps declining state. The past must be examined, but if we cannot collectively learn and unite from what it teaches, our children might one day be speaking another language rather than English!

As Americans, we are indeed changing and evolving as we have been for a long time now. We are not multiple races, but slowly and sometimes even violently forming into what can be considered the American Race. The American Race is not based on color, but on an ideal embrace of what it means to be an American. It is a sense of belonging to the greatest culture the world has ever known. It is not taking for granted the freedoms allowed by the structure laid forth from its inception. It is taking ownership in the privilege of being alive at this crossroad in our history and making the personal decision to disregard the prejudices and ignorant beliefs that one has been conditioned to embrace. The American Race is a race of ideas and not color. It is not merely the consideration of the events that have made our nation great, but a full recognition and appreciation of the price that those who came before paid for our liberty. As Americans it is not only our responsibility survive this internal conflict we are facing, but to continue to flourish so that future generations of Americans can sustain and pass along the same pride that we feel in those who carried the weight before us.

In closing, the author of these pages would challenge anyone out there reading these words to encourage others to consider them as well. Tell them to think about what this writing states. Even if you are reading this and you do not agree with everything that is written here, please at least consider the main points and try to find what might be flawed about them. It is critical that these thoughts are at least given a fair consideration. If America can unite and identify themselves as both individuals and as a collective, the nation and therefore the world will surely change forever and definitely for the better.

Mr. Jura had decided to join and lead a labor union. He had no idea that a catastrophic event was about to change his life. The new management of the company he worked with had taken over the former management - started reorganization and changed some of the company’s policies. Mr. Jura had worked for seven years as an accounts officer with the company.

Image via Wikipedia

The new management hired new personnel and employees. But on a certain account, they used cost – cutting procedure. They used to cut on the number of employees on a certain department. The company had introduced forced labor effectively. It affected to the old employees especially. They obliged their employees to do the jobs and responsibilities as the same as supervisors.

He explained, “I handled so many loan accounts, including monitoring, collections’ procedures, and other legal documentation. I could see that there were discrepancies. Promotions and salary increases were awarded and mostly enjoyed by the newly hired personnel. I have a pending promotion that the company had promised. The harmonious relationship between the employees and the employer had become chaotic. Favoritism had become obvious and the situation became worst.”

Those strategies that the company practiced had increased Mr. Jura’s desire to organize a labor union, of about two hundred members, with the primary objective of protecting the employees against the unfair labor practices of the company.

During his active Leadership – Mr. Jura noted that some of the union members were afraid to negotiate with the employer. He said, “There was a strong warning by the company, to terminate employees involved to such activity.” But despite the management cautionary action, the union stood its ground vigorously and there were more struggles.

“I concluded two Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) with the employer. The first CBA had taken us by eight months to negotiate with the employer. In the middle of negotiation with the company, they offered me promotion and money. But I had never accepted it until it ended up with deadlocked bargaining. Those eight months of bargaining with the employer had brought us too much difficulty. I really needed the money to sustain my mother’s hospitalization and to support my family. It was really hard for me to handle the situation. But this had not affected my strong desire to lead the union. But it was difficult to render a visible protest against the company’s unfair labor practices,” he said.

The plans on a Yes – to – Strike. The union members wore arm – bands with slogans, and had picketed in front of the administration’s building. It took them a month. But the company still did not alter its decision. They felt that their crusade had failed. Their struggles seemed to have no success. These were months of desolation. It affected Mr. Jura greatly. That period of his crusade with the union had made him crippled. His mother’s condition had affected him. The agony had penetrated his heart, brought by the disturbing events, but he had never deviated from his decision. Courageously, they have said, ‘Yes to strike,’ through a consultation with the Department of Labor Employment (DOLE).

The plans on a Yes – to – Strike by the union had worried the company. So the company bribed one of the employees of DOLE to release an assumption order to stop the possible strike of the union. But the union went through with their crusade that urged the company to grant some of their demands.

In that provision, all employees, either union members or non – union members will receive 3% profit shares from the company’s annual income.

According to Mr. Jura, the first and second distributions were in good faith, while the third time of distribution was shocking. They found that the non – members received a greater amount than the union members. This urged Mr. Jura to request a consultation with the management, but to no avail. The management justified it as their prerogative. This made the union open their second CBA.

Their second CBA with the company was not as fruitful. Their legal counsel (union) had renewed some of the existing provisions stated in the CBA. The management (company) bribed their counsel with some money.

“We continued our struggles. We filed the case with the National Labor Counsel. The issue was for equal profit sharing. Luckily, we won the case, after two long years of labor hearings!” he said.

Mr. Jura felt jubilation to win the case. He never sold his principle and dignity to the company. He would cherish it throughout his life span and share it to his kids. He resigned from his job with dignity and pride. He said, “Courage and Unity were the best weapons to Victory.”

“It was really difficult to handle the situation. I lost my job. I have a family that needed my support. Those disturbing events that happened to me did not diminish my strength and willingness to live and survive, but I strive more to keep on living,” said Mr. Jura.

He added, “If it happened to you and you lost your job come down and never get mad. It is not the end of the world for you. There are more opportunities for you to find a job. Jobs are there just around you. Think positively. Don’t just put yourself in a corner, remembering those bad experiences that happened to you before. Maintain a good relationship with your family. Trust and understanding are really needed in this situation.

“Your family is your outlet to discuss what is good. See your friends. They are willing to help you. They can refer you to another company that needs your services. Deliver yourself to the Good Lord. He is always behind you to support you, to guide you. He is the first and the last to seek for help because hope is there.”

At present Mr. Jura is working as a Secretary at a Construction Company in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

It is said that Demonstrations and Rallies are adding to the fear of investors depriving ourselves of the investments needed to kick-start the economy but they also help to check our officials wrong doings!

For any person, pride on him/herself and on his/her relationships is desirable for preservation of his/her self-esteem. Apart for this pride, every person is required to earn honor in his/her society that makes people to trust and respect him. Thus, the pride is part of the person’s own psyche while his/her honor is part of psyche of his/her contacts in the society. For a person to earn honor, he/she is supported by the pride he/she has. Conversely, an honored person has some pride too. Thus, pride and honor are closely interlinked.

These being positive attributes of a personality, these need be cultivated and nurtured. For this, some important considerations are discussed here.

Subjectivity and Objectivity

Although objectivity of views on any subject is often said to be a desirable attribute, it is a reality of life that subjectivity can never be neglected even if conscious efforts are made by a person in this regard. Moreover, correctness of pride and honor be valued objectively, but these being matters of highly subjective nature and one need not sacrifice his/her stand on these for being objective.

Moral Values

With the present general degradation of morality in human societies all over the globe, it becomes responsibility of right thinking persons to have their own moral values and not to go by social standards of morality, and this surely requires a lot of courage for going against social stream which only a few real pioneers of a social change can have.

Intuition

Intuition is what comes to mind of a person instantly on facing a problem, and its source is the person’s knowledge base which he/she learned in life through teachings he/she got from parents and other social contacts, his education, training and experiences that far. For the person to have pride and earn honor, his/her intuition plays the most important role. Since social contacts are the important sources of intuition, a social degradation imperils intuitions of individuals in the society. Therefore, the right thinking persons willing to take on themselves the responsibility of leading the society on the right path are needed to develop their own sources of intuition independent of the degraded society. Some important sources of this type may be ancient scriptures, historical facts, philosophies developed in foreign lands but having universal appeal and value.
