An interesting encounter with a priest.

It’s amazing how small things like talking to a priest could change your mood and outlook about life. One thing that bugged me these past few weeks is death. I fear that I die prematurely. Death is premature for me if I die not achieving my greatest, if not all my dreams. With the thought of doomsday, I could die sooner than expected. No…..! It can’t happen! But no matter how I force myself to think of good things and that those fears are only in my mind, I still can’t puppet-control what pops in my head. And it’s showing in my health and on my face. I’ve been grumpy and I didn’t notice that until a friend told me about it.

Last week, I went to attend a Christian Living Program seminar at our community chapel. We arrived there quite late but we were still among the earliest comers. I expected that, of course. When it comes to activities like meetings, church services and seminars, punctuality is really the biggest challenge. Unlike in parties, regardless of whatever hinders the way like health problems and urgent job assignments, people come to the event even earlier thae the set time. Harsh reality! But of course, who could resist to parteyyy! I asked a friend if the chaplain was still awake that time. I needed to talk to him about my exam my on-line school sent him. I waited at the front of his room after knocking twice. I greeted him in my most polite but burbling “Good evening Father.” I was so hesitant that I even considered of running away once the door would open. It simply is not my habit to talk to a priest.

Instead to talking about my exam, we talked about various topics like Philippine economy, journalism, ideology, philosophy, entertainment and a lot more. “It seemed like we have a big problem, Father,” I told him. “You think we still have a chance to heal the world?”

“Of course we have a great chance to heal the world,” he promptly replied. “We need people who have the heart and passion for something, which they will use for the greater good. For example, your love of writing is your instrument to influence the healing of the world,” he continued. He also rebuked the practices of most people of acquiring earthly possessions while taking for granted the environment and the welfare of the younger generation. One thing he said I was so glad about was that there is hope. According to him, it is stated in the Bible that we need hope to heal the problems of the world.

I shook hands with him thanking of the precious time he’d spent talking with me. I went to the chapel with fresh perspectives in my head. It gave me hope like a bright light guiding my direction.

This year is the 115th death anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal, Filipino national martyr-hero who died by firing squad on December 30,1896.

A day before his execution at 6:00 a.m. December 29, 1896 Dr. Jose Rizal’s death sentence was read to him: “…. the death penalty is imposed on the accused JOSE RIZAL MERCADO… by shooting him at the back at 7:00 a.m. on the 30th of December 1896…” (It is interesting to know that 13 years before his execution in 1883, his diary shows that he dreamed he died on December 30.)

Rizal was immediately transferred to a chapel cell to wait for his last moment. Among those who visited him were his Jesuit professors at the Ateneo de Manila where he attended high school and earned the degree of Bachiller en Artes. There was no representative from the University of Santo Tomas where he pursued Medicine and Philosophy.

Standouts among those who viewed him on his last hour were his lawyer; his bodyguard; Fr. Federico Faura who had predicted that his novel the Noli Me Tangere would cost him his life; Fr. Vicente Balaguer who was known to have married him and Josephine Bracken and who convinced him to retract his “anti-Catholic” ideas found in his novels; Donya Teodora his mother; Trinidad his sister to whom he gave the alcohol cooking stove which contained his last poem of farewell; Josephine Bracken his “wife”.

About 6:30 a.m. of December 30, 1896 a trumpet heralded the start of Dr. Jose Rizal’s death march to Bagumbayan (now the Luneta or Rizal Park), a mound facing the sea. At a distance lay the island of Corregidor and the hills of Bataan. Four soldiers with bayoneted rifles formed the advance guard. A few meters behind them Rizal marched calmly in black suit, black derby hat, black shoes, white shirt, and black tie. His arms were tied from elbow to elbow, but the rope was loose enough to make him move. To the muffled sounds of the drums the cavalcade marched serenely. A few curious spectators lined the street from Fort Santiago to Plaza del Palacio of the Manila Cathedral.

Rizal and the cavalcade arrived at Bagumbayan at exactly 7:00 a.m. He faced the firing squad ready to be shot facing the enemy. He asked Captain Dominguez that he be shot through his heart but the request was denied because the death sentence specified that he be shot at the back. Rizal reluctantly turned his back facing the sea. Dr. Felipe Ruiz Castillo felt his pulse and was surprised to find that it was normal— meaning, he was not afraid to die. One friar came forward to let him kiss the Crucifix. Without a word he turned his face away. (Was this the action of a man who retracted his “anti-Catholic religious errors”?)

Captain Dominguez raised his sword and ordered the executioners: “Ready, aim, fire!” Riddled with bullets Rizal whirled and fell on his back, looking up at the sky. He died at exactly 7:03 a.m. on December 30, 1896. He was 35 years, 5 months, and 11 days old.

In his prophetic vision (like his dream which foretold the exact date of his execution, December 30) he had seen himself die (as described in the third stanza of his celebrated “Mi Ultimo Adios”, his last farewell poem) wherein he imagines his blood dyeing with crimson the newborn day.

I die just when I see the dawn break,
Through the gloom of night, to herald the day;
And if color is lacking, my blood thou shalt take,
Pour’d out at need for thy dear sake,
To dye with its crimson the waking ray.

In previous executions at Bagumbayan, it was normal for spectators to be noisy after the execution. But when Rizal fell Capt. Rafael Dominguez who supervised his execution ordered the crowd and his men to be silent. The silence was a recognition of “the brave recognizing the brave.”

Rizal’s remains were first buried at Paco Cemetery which, since early times had been a graveyard for early prelates and governors-general as well as victims of cholera that plagued Manila in 1820. Sixteen years later on December 30, 1912 his remains were exhumed and placed in a glass crypt at the base of Rizal’s present monument and tomb at the Luneta or Rizal Park (previously Bagumbayan where he had been shot by firing squad). The cemetery became a national shrine during the American Occupation.

Cutie: A Modern Day Thorn Birds Romance

We just LOVED the banned activity of the Father Ralph and his adolescent Meggie, and the angle that accurate adulation could adumbrate not alone ones aspirations of success (Father Ralph had Vatican ambitions), but even a charge to God.

When I apprehend today about the adulation aspersion involving Rev. Alberto Cutie, a Father Oprah in the Spanish speaking world, who accepted to a 2 year activity with a woman whom he loves, AND I saw his photo (he is cute!), I was taken aback to those candied memories of watching a banal blur with my cousin!

Rev. Cutie assuredly had a able careeer – he had accounting a book alleged Real Life, Real Love, appeared on television and radio and accustomed self-help advice. Along the way, he admits he fell in love. But the botheration was that, as a Catholic priest, he had taken a vow of celibacy, to appearance his charge and adherent adulation for God.

In acceptance that he admired this woman, his words included “wrong”, “unfortunate”, “apology” and “struggle”. Choosing to become a priest, and to yield a vow of celibacy, is assuredly a claimed choice. And the Catholic Church has faced abundant scandals over pedophilia and animal corruption to befoul its image.

But, the adventurous in me, who admits she admired the arena area Richard Chamberlain relinquishes his priests apparel to just be a man for the weekend, asks should Rev. Cutie be answer so abundantly for falling in love?

A parish priest invited her to come to his house praying for his father who was ill. At the time the priest arrived, he found an old man who was lying weak in bed, and an empty chair in front of him.

Of course you have been waiting for me, said the Father. No, who are you?, Said the father.
Pastorpun introduced himself and said, I see empty seats, I thought you already knew that I would come.
Oo, the chair, said the father, “Will you shut the door?” Wondering to myself, Pastorpun shut the door.
I have a secret, no one knows, even a single daughter sayapun not know, said the father. All my life I have never known how to pray. At church I’ve listened to the sermon Pastor about how to pray, but all that go away from the head saya.Semua way I have tried, but always failed, continued the father, until one day, exactly four years ago, a close friend I teach a very simple way to be able to converse with Jesus. He taught me this: Sit in a chair, put an empty chair in front of you, then imagine Jesus sitting on a chair. This is not a ghost you know, because He has promised to always be with you, then talk like you’re used to talking with me today. I then tried the way given my friend, and I became able to enjoy it. Every day I did it until a few hours. Everything that I do in secret, so that my daughter did not think I’m crazy when they see me conversing with empty seats. The priest was deeply moved to be the story that a lot, and gave impetus to the Father to continue the habit of praying. After praying together, and gave him the sacrament of Petroleum, Pastorpun home. Two days later, the girl told Pastor that his father had died that afternoon.
Did he die in peace? asked the priest.
Yes, when I said goodbye to purchase some errands at the store that afternoon, my father called me and said that he loved me, and kissed both my cheeks. An hour later, when I came home from shopping, I found the father was dead. But there is a strange incident when my father died. He died sitting on a bed with his head propped against the empty chair beside the bed. How do Father?

Wiping her tears, Pastorpun said, I hope someday we all may die that way.

A wonderful story.

Would have liked to reply: “I. I am dead.” But settled for smiling.

Leaving the village rushed his steps:

He returned late in the morning.

– Where were you, man? Asked Anne, her niece. Many women came looking for him. They wanted to confess to be the first Friday morning.

-Have them return at night.

He stayed quiet for a while, sitting on a bench in the hall, filled with fatigue.

– What is the air cool, is not it, Anne?

It’s hot, man.

-I do not feel.

Do not want to think at all that had been in Contra, where he made a general confession to the priest, and that he, despite his pleas, he had refused absolution:

That man who does not want to mention his name has torn your church and you have consented to it. What can you expect as you, Father? What have you done with the power of God? I want to convince me that you are good and there receive the estimation of all but not enough to be good. Sin is not good. And to finish with him, you have to be tough and ruthless. I still believe that all believers, but is not you who kept their faith, they do superstition and fear. I want to be with you in even more poverty in which you live and work and care that book every day for your compliance.I know how hard it is our task in these poor villages where we have neglected, but that it entitles me to tell you not to give our service a few, that will give you a little for your soul and your soul in their hands what you can do to be better than those who are better than you? No, father, my hands are not clean enough to give you absolution. You’ll have to look elsewhere.

– You mean, Father, I have to go looking elsewhere confession?

You have to go. You can not continue praising others if you yourself are in sin.

– What if I suspend my ministry?

I do not think they do, but perhaps you deserve. It is up to them.

– Could not you. . .? Provisionally, say. . . I need to give the last rites. . . communion.Killed so many in my village priest.

Father, let the dead God will judge.

– So, no?

And the priest of Contra had said no.

After the two walked the corridors of the parish, azaleas shaded. They sat under an arbor where grapes ripen.

Acid-Son, Father, the priest stepped the question I was going to do, We live in a land where everything grows, thanks to Providence, but everything comes with acidity. We are condemned to it.

You are right, Father. Back in Cyprus I tried planting grapes. They do not. Only myrtles and orange trees grow, sour orange and myrtle, citrus. To me I have forgotten the taste of sweet things. ¿. You remember the guavas from China we had in the seminary? Peaches, tangerines tighten those that just let go of the shell. I brought some seeds here. Few, just a bag. . . . then I thought it would be better to leave them wherever they matured, and brought them here to die.

-And yet, father, say Cyprus lands are good. It is unfortunate that in the hands of one man. Pedro Páramo Is still the owner, no?

-This is the will of God.

I do not think that in this case involving the will of God. Did not you think so, father?

Sometimes I have doubted, but there recognize it.

– And among those are you?

I am a poor man willing to humble himself, while the urge to do so.

Then he was fired. He, taking her hands and besándoselas. However, now here, back to reality. did not want to think about that morning Coital.

He got up and walked to the door.

– Where are you going, man?

His niece Ana, always present, always with him, as if looking for his shadow to defend life.

-I’m going to walk a while, Anna’s see if I bust.

– Do you feel bad?

Mal-no, Ana Mao. A bad man. I feel I am.

The one attention-grabbing factor with vampire films these days is making an attempt to work out what kind of vampire your going to get and what guidelines have been thought as much as govern them in the world.

The one attention-grabbing factor with vampire films these days is making an attempt to work out what kind of vampire your going to get and what guidelines have been thought as much as govern them in the world. The vampires of Priest are precise grotesque monsters with sharp claws and fangs which makes a change from the standard humans with barely bigger incisors. That being mentioned, they do exist because the human-turned-vampire slaves to their true vampire masters.

Based on Hyung Min-Woo Korean graphic novel, Priest is ready in a world where people and vampires have been at war. Realising that they were loosing, the humans invested in training up an elite group of warriors who could fight the vampires and turn the battle in their favour. Attention-grabbing actually for the reason that unique comic did not contain vampires but rather fallen angels and daemons therefore why the name of this film does not utterly match the content.

The church decides that after the conflict is won they now not need their crack group of assassins and so fearing what they might do, they’re disbanded and despatched away to stay normal lives with the authorities and society shunning them. (I acquired the impression this was no less than partially attempting to parallel modern-day war veterans however it was a theme that was only briefly handed over.) When Priest (Paul Bettany) finds out his family have been attacked by vampires and his niece (Lily Collins) taken, he goes towards the phrase of the church and teams up with his nieces boyfriend Hicks (Cam Gigandet), the local sheriff to get her back.

Image via Wikipedia

Then follows some preventing, extra CGI and particular results (which as an entire are good) and an try to trend a story out of the situation. I just felt that this movie did not have much going for it with the appearing moderately disappointing, the ’scary’ elements failing to let my heart racing not to mention make me leap from my seat and I began to lose curiosity half manner through- never a good sign. Watch the trailer and save yourself a visit to the cinema and some quid.

The film also didn’t know what route it was heading in. By this I mean that it amalgamated a western theme with horror and motion and a slight try at romance and threw it right into a Mad Max publish-apocalyptic kind world. Maybe this might need worked in the graphic novel where you’ll be able to think about a cowboy western world to be extra god fearing but it surely simply did not adapt to the big screen.

Although a didn’t see the 3D model the final consensus is that I made the right selection in opting for the 2D. That is in all probability down to the actual fact it was post-converted into 3D relatively than shot in 3D and with massive elements of the movie set at midnight (one guess why), the addition of 3D glasses is not going to help your viewing experience.

Lastly, you like me could also be stunned to search out that it’s solely a 12A rating. If I ever noticed a few of the stuff in this movie when I was younger than 12 I wouldn’t have slept for weeks but then maybe the youngsters today are made from more durable stuff!

So I was not the biggest fan of this movie and I’ve a feeling that I will not be the one one. If it wasn’t for the cross formed tattoo throughout his forehead, I would have had trouble distinguishing Bettany from his role on this and the equally disappointing Legion. One word sums this up and that phrase is rubbish.

About Stonehenge.

The huge slabs and uprights of stone at Stonehenge on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire were somehow inched into position about four thousand years ago in the Bronze Age. This prehistoric monument consists of two circles of huge stone blocks. Inside there are two groups of stones in the shape of a horseshoe. No written record exists of the origins of these features and they have always been surrounded by mystery.

At one time people thought that Stonehenge was a Druid temple. The Druids were a Celtic religious group who were suppressed in Great Britain soon after the Roman Conquest. Some people believe that they were a group of priests while others regard them as medicine-men who practised human sacrifice and cannibalism. It is also thought that the circle of stones was an immense temple in which to honour the sun god and perhaps even to offer human sacrifice.

The priest looked down

toward the ground,

from the high window in the Hall of Worship,

for a moment sanity fled,

as suicide entered his head,

and for the first time

he would find,

a sense of apprehension,

no comprehension,

he quickly fought to regain his sanity,

a mental rope,

he would toss out so he could cope,

it was absurd,

his own words were spoken without being heard,

rattling evil thoughts in his head,

then reality drilled into him sufficiently,

in his throat, a lump,

he took several steps back,

and with God’s help, reconsidered the jump.
