Different people, different priorities. Different priorities for different personalities. What matters to one is not important to another. We all have different desires too.

No one on the face of the earth is exactly similar. We are unique human beings made up of unique DNA orientation. There may be a lot of categories that make people group stick to one another like race, color of skin, eyes and hair, geographic location, age, sex, religion, culture and tradition and more. Nevertheless, even in groups and subgroups, we all maintain our own sense of uniqueness.

Different people have different priorities. Some people prioritize their religious orientation over hobbies or even work and family. Others put their family above all things and would sacrifice so much for the sake of their loved ones. Priorities differ because we all have varrying personalities. People who are outgoing seem to have a lot of friends who, in one way or another compel someone to become used to extravagant and complex spendings. Those with simple lifestyle will just enjoy simple fun and activities.

We are all different individuals but we all have one thing in common – our desire for acceptance and approval. Many of us want to please as much people in our own circle (or even those who are total strangers) as possible. Life these days has become very complicated. What used to be simple and enjoyable fun are almost instinct. This is the generation of push buttons and complex gadgets. Although differences amongst people are still very much obvious, a lot of people are in the same boat these days – those enjoying the ultra-modern designs of society. We are all different. Nevertheless, what really matters especially these days is that we all have the same respect for and love for the one and true God who created us all human beings and everything here on earth.

Indians watch their politicians arguing and showing their pettiness over mostly irrelevant issues while important issues get sidelined.

So we need an external audit type of body that would decide which issues will be discussed in the parliament rather than the Members of Parliament (MPs) having tea party type of gathering. It is so boring, unfruitful, and unimportant that most ministers have very low attendance records. Even the content should be audited as the members of parliaments are not doing it anyway.

But we the ordinary people are forced to watch that nightmare. Instead of questioning the politicians about why such and such issue was not taken up for discussion, or was this issue more important than the other issue, media merely focuses on some utterances.

I see some ray of hope now with Anna Hazareji and his team mates. So I would like to suggest that we should have an agenda for every day meeting. Priority needs to be decided by us and not the speaker. There should be a change in the way Indian parliamentary proceedings are conducted. There should be no reference to another person’s remark. Anybody trying to address any remark specifically should be fined heavily and that should be added to tax kitty. Any Member of Parliament absenting himself or herself for whatever reason needs to pay a fine which should not be less than the cost of the proceedings divided by the number of Parliamentary members. Such funds can be used as adhoc funds for helping flood, earthquake, or other calamities victims. If ministers resent this, it would be obvious that they do not love their subjects and so the next time they would either attend the session, or pay the fine with a smiling face. Such penalties should be applicable even if the minister chooses to be absent for half an hour.

When we take up an employment, we are expected to swipe our cards while checking in. If the ministers are being paid for what they are doing why shouldnt they be expected to be there in the Parliamentary chambers in time, and throughout the session. Parties would also not need to raise monies from any industrailist for portraying their parties as the do gooders. Such political funds are also a type of bribe, isn’t it?

Any prolonged discussions refering to past actions other than necessary statistics needs to be curtailed. Therefore, each topic needs to be given only a specific time. Only one member of one party should be allowed some time on it. Any interjection should be fined. Any attempt to stop the person from completing his statement should be fined. Any attempt to extend the speech beyond the time allocated should also be penalized. Each speaker may only be allowed 15 minutes to make their points. They should only be focusing upon why a particular action is worth taking, and why it should not be taken. Members are expected to arrive in the Parliament prepared to take decision, which may at the most vary based on opinions expressed by the others. They should do their homework. All parties should share information about why they want a resolution passed, and why they dont just like it happens in Companies Act. There is dissension there as well. But everybody receives the complete report. So why not share the content?

There are many such things that need to be done to bring our country on track Anna ji. As you rightly pointed out, it is just a beginning. We’ve miles to go before we sleep.

This article is about the difference to life that careful planning can make.

THE ART OF GREAT PLANNING

Great planning can be the difference between a major success or a disastrous failure. It involves the art of being able to ascertain correctly and wisely what the priorities are, in terms of being able to accomplish a desired objective or goal.

Time taken to plan properly is never a waste as it serves as a point of focus. This is needed when working towards what must be achieved to see the fulfilment of the plan, as opposed to what can be disregarded and abandoned as irrelevant. A well thought out plan highlights the pros and cons of certain actions that need to be considered. Every decision made can therefore be an informed decision based on investigation and research for the best possible outcome. Planning saves time and gives you the opportunity to get the most out of it, bearing in mind the precious commodity it is.

Planning is the thing that makes the journey of life valuable and worthwhile, instilling the hope that tomorrow could be a brighter day. Everything in life should be done in order and the best way for that to be guaranteed is if a lot has gone into the planning stages. Life is short and therefore not one second of it should be wasted!

Although at times planning does not seem blatantly obvious, it is human nature and can be applied and implemented in most areas in life. Women plan to meet Mr Right or to get their bodies looking like a super models, men plan to get the latest sports car or the rippling muscles of Arnold Schawarzenegger, people plan for their wedding, plan to get pregnant, plan to have a baby, plan for their holiday, plan to write a book, plan to get a job, plan to leave an abusive relationship, plan to emigrate, plan for the birth of twins, plan to start a business, plan for old age, plan to leave the earth, plan basically for whatever is important to them.

Planning is the application of wisdom drawn upon in the most crucial moments of life which will either stir one towards or away from one’s destiny. A lack of planning only leads to frustration and non achievement, and the feeling that one is helplessly going round and round in circles, but getting nowhere fast!

Therefore if you believe that you are destined for greatness, why just sit around and wait for great things to drop into your lap? Realistically, when is that likely to happen? Don’t spend your whole life just dreaming. Instead rise up, dust yourself off from wherever life has dropped you. Become determined to make things happen by planning appropriately and then going for gold. After all other people achieve success so why shouldn’t you be one of them? Decide today that your life and every second of it will count. It may not be as difficult as you think. Start where you are and remember that every great and successful person had to start somewhere. Choose to make a difference just by virtue of the fact that you are unique! Plan to be an achiever in your neck of the woods!

                                                                                      By

                                                                             Diane Wilkie

Is pretty printed paper REALLY worth all the bloodshed?

You all are destroying lives, and all for what? Earthly wealth? The wealth of this earth can’t be taken with you when you pass from this planet. What if it were your family members whose lives were being destroyed? Could you live with that?

Money, girls, and cars, all the material gain you could want, but at what cost? What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, if he loses his soul? If you are part of a drug cartel, or if you have bought their products, I ask that you think long and hard about what is written here.

Think about your lives, your loved ones, and your eternal souls. Are you willing to risk EVERYTHING for a little bit of pretty printed paper? Seriously? I will never comprehend people such as those who are involved with the drug trade.

I hope this letter stirs your conscience.

If it’s a universal truth, then most likely more than a single person has thought it up.

Everyone has had something like this happen before, if they come up with a great idea they find out that someone else also has something worked out on the same idea. This only supports the reasoning that it must be a universal truth, something that has recently been developed or even developed and recently rediscovered and is part of something much bigger than ourselves. One such universal truth I have been using for the past five years and recently heard Dr. Phil talking about on TV!

If you want to know how well you are keeping your life on track take inventory. Make a list of the five most important things to you. Then right next to that list, list the five biggest parts of your day. If these two lists are miles apart, you have lost track of who you really are. If the very top of the list on both sides are congruent to each other, in ideology and practice or behavior, then you are right on track!

If you have around three out of each list that work together to fit your most important priorities together with your behavior then you probably are in a much more comfortable place in self-regard. You have a higher and healthier opinion of yourself than most of the world as you know it. That is 60% congruency from your ideals to your life.

Even though we are able to juggle things, there are items that will have to take a back seat while we take care of business daily to keep our lives running in a fairly stable manner.

George Miller decided to check out how much information a human can process in a given space of time and found that five to nine items was what the human brain can handle back in 1956. Seven seems to be the magic number depending on how coordinated you are; how many people we have close to us, what we can remember, and the number of choices we can have to make a decision without freezing up or procrastinating. So to make the simplest form, five seems to be the best number to work the lists out.

There are many ways to interpret this kind of information, most people do not get to organize their lives around what they consider is the most important currently with what they do on a daily basis. Most people’s list changes when their living or family situation changes. Then their priorities and their very lives have to take a big change, sometimes people never recover. This is when you not only lose sight of your ability to adjust their needs from their wants or even lose part of their identity just trying to organize their lives. Most of us who have children laugh at the concept of organization! But to sum up, if you have the top of both lists working together or three from both lists in any order then you are doing good. If you have nothing in common with the top of the lists or the majority of the lists then you’re probably not in a very good place in your life.

With all this you might just want to chuck the lists you made. So what is most important to you and do your daily activities reflect this?

Lately, the rage in all the news and media is coverage of the upcoming nuptials between a prince, who happens to be just a figurehead, and a lovely young woman. I turned the channels last night each time someone spoke of the subject and I must say that I wasn’t able to settle on a station until I hit a kids channel. Really, do the people of the world have all this time to waste on someone else’s wedding? Where have priorities gone? I must repeat my title about the whole thing, who really gives a brit?

A short story of my qualms with American society.

Remember when you could walk to the corner store and buy some Laffy Taffy with a nickel?

Remember when things were easy?

When people were concerned about how their family was feeling, not how much that new car costs.

When people got married, not for money or lust, but because they wanted to spend their lives with each other.

Those times are gone.

Away with the wind.

Humanity has changed, and not for the better.

Will you ever realize what is wrong with your mentality?

Your priorities?

Children are not there so you can mold them into a “better” version of yourself, they are there to better the world.

Honest work has been devalued, almost to the point it has lost meaning.

Are drugs the answer?

Do your children need to be “fixed”?

Or are you just too damn lazy to teach them the ways of love and understanding?

While you plunge this world into chaos, sit back in your leather couch, and stare mindlessly into your plasma TV,

The ones that actually care are being stepped on because they are too idealistic, because humans are scared of change.

Step back and examine yourself.

Survival is a very important skill. It dates back to the beginning of mankind.

Survival. The most important skill of all. This is a skill that people in modern day societies need to have. Problems are thrown at us every day. They surround our life and it is an art to “survive” them.

Survival brings people together. Have you ever noticed that in scary movies the characters that hate each other in the beginning end up being friends in the end? This is because they survived together. The challenges that are in our lives bring us nearer and make us learn from them. For example, whenever I have to face a difficult problem and I survive it, I learn from it and avoid the situation the next time.

The way of surviving has been developed since the beginning of mankind. Although conditions have changed, survival has just adapted. Surviving is still and will always be the number one priority.

Top tips for learning the ‘Gentle Art of Saying No’

Is it common for you that you are trying to squeeze in time for yourself in between tight deadlines and long working hours? Well then all you need to do is learn the gentle art of saying no! Most often than not, just to do well in our lives and be in the good books of everyone, whether it is our personal or professional space, we end up taking a lot more than we can handle. And saying ‘no’ can be very difficult for people with low self esteem, who lack an assertive nature and want to meet everyone’s expectations.

KNOW YOUR PRIORITIES

You might be having too much on your to-do list, but that does not mean you let things control your life. Rather you should be the captain of your own ship. Learning how to organise your priorities might seem a herculean task but this is the first step towards having a grip on your life. Says Prabhakar Diwedi, an HR professional, “I learnt my lesson the hard way. I had this habit of taking on a lot of responsibilities thinking I could handle everything easily. Before I knew it, people were piling up things on me seeing my track record of taking on things without any problem. This habit of mine backfired and somehow I managed to put a stop on it by simply declining things.” Prabhakar’s mornings and nights were spent in the office doing work meant for other people. He learnt that it is best to negotiate things rather than completely declining offers.

BE FIRM IN YOUR APPROACH

Clinical psychologist and psychotherapist, Dr Veena Chakravarthy says, “You need to be firm in your approach. One cannot possibly please everyone everytime. You have to realise that
it is not the person you are turning down, whether it is your friend, relative or colleague, it is
the idea or situation that you are not comfortable with. Everyone is entitled to have their own choice and opinions. You need to see how you can actually contribute to the bigger picture and if you are doing justice to yourself and your work.”

DIPLOMACY AT ITS BEST

You can say what you feel but when you add a tinge of diplomacy it will do you more good than anything else. You have to remember one thing that you do not owe anyone any explanations. The decision should be upto you and after saying so there is no need to fret about what the other person will think about you. For Ananya Deshmukh, a banker, who started off with her career did not turn down anything fearing she may miss out on an opportunity. It was when she started missing her deadlines and her work started getting affected that she realised what went wrong, “I was very enthusiastic when I started off. So I never said no to my seniors just in the hope that they will be impressed with me and my capabilities. But it was only time that made me realise what I had gotten myself into. With so much work on hand I started missing deadlines and my work used to be anything but perfect.”

ALWAYS SAYING ‘YES’ ISN’T HEALTHY

Clinical psychologist and psychotherapist Dr Rachna Kothari feels that one has to envisage the negative repercussions of saying yes all the time, “If you say yes to things you already know are beyond your reach, control or capability; then you might be more prone to stress after committing the same. You then end up having a double problem! First, you said a ‘yes’ instead of a ‘no’ and second you need to make that yes possible.” She also advises that you need to pause, think and then answer. Eat only what your stomach can digest otherwise chances of throwing-up are more.

Top 10 tips for learning the ‘Gentle Art of Saying No’

6. Say no to your boss

7. Try pre-empting requests

8. Get back to you
