Our public schools are definitely not doing their job. Too many failing students who struggle through high school with uninspired teachers and little hope of getting into college. Teach for America is doing as much as they can about it. They send whiz kids into the most troubled schools to work with these kids and get them into college. They do an outstanding job, the only problem is, there aren’t enough of them.

Military educators know how to teach youngsters who are not getting the most from traditional education. It’s time for public schools to wake up and put programs in place that work for our students. It isn’t that enough money isn’t poured into schools, it’s lack of commitment on the part of teachers and parents. Students must be guided and high expectation must be set for students to succeed.
