Reasons for Spanish Neglect of The Lesser Antilles

The discovery of the west indies by Christopher Columbus was accompanied by Spanish settlements in the islands. But Spaniards did not establish settlements on all the islands discovered. Rather there was a marked concentration of effort on the larger islands such as Hispaniola, cuba, Puerto rico and Jamaica which make up the greater Antilles.
