He or she 1st themes the actual pumpkin’s covering in your community to become designed. Following, they brings bottom lines to make note of exactly where face and also nose will probably be inserted. He develops a new pile the place that the nasal area will be, and then sets out to rough inside eyesight electrical sockets.

In the end the areas are generally roughed in, My partner and i start outlining the facial skin, looking to perform all over, not just one location,Inch he was quoted saying.

It really is demanding work because Harris has got to you should never pierce the actual shell. When finished, he will apply around the confront with his palms, which in turn smoothes rough places for the concluded floor.

“The roughest element isn’t proceeding way too deep while using slashes even though wanting to display depth. It is extremely monotonous for me as I pride myself personally about obtaining quite comprehensive making. I own a great deal of clean outlines, and that’s very hard to acquire often,In .
Here is an idea for anyone who is tired of doing the same old Halloween pumpkin carvings every year.

This is a fun idea for anyone who wants to do something new and original this halloween. All that is needed is a green pumpkin (purchased from local grocery store) and the normal knives one would use to carve pumpkins. Using the bottom portion of the pumpkin as the shell, and pieces of the remaining portion of the pumpkin for arms, head, and tail, this is an easy and creative way to stand out amongst all the other carved pumpkins this year.

Using toothpicks or pieces of metal coat hanger to attach the limbs to the shell is an easy method of assembly. A face can be drawn onto the turtle, or carved out using cutting utensils. The shell of the turtle can be further decorated or carved however is desired.

How to make your own pumkin pie filling from fresh pumpkin.

Don’t throw that pumpkin pulp away

Make a Pie!

(Back to basics

A family tradition)

By

JaniceBcreative

With the fall season upon us, summer adventures a warm, fuzzy memory, time to gear up for home cooking season. Home cooking makes the dollar stretch, gets us into using seasonal, local foods and wasting nothing. When you’re carving the pumpkin this year, hollowing out the innards, don’t throw that prime, nutritional, pulp or seeds away.

Homemade pumpkin pie from homemade pumpkin pulp is very different from buying the processed pumpkin filling in a can. Treat yourself this year to the real thing. It doesn’t take much more time than going to the store, spending more than you need, and the taste!

While preparing your pumpkin for carving, remove the stringy stuff, separating the pumpkin seeds. Place seeds in a colander for washing.

Place the pumpkin scrapings into a large pot for boiling and okay throw the stringy stuff away if you must, but it makes for a great haunted house prop and have the kids put their hands in it when it’s dark and they can’t see it, it really grosses them out, Keep towels handy.

Note: If you aren’t carving this year, you can just prepare the pumpkin for cooking and boil down the chunks. Prepare as you would an acorn squash, halving it and cleaning out the seeds and membrane. No need to peel the outer skin, it will come off easily after boiling.

Add just enough water to keep the pot from burning and to create steam. You will have to keep an eye on it and add water as it boils out. When the pumpkin squash is soft, remove from heat and strain out the water by pouring it into a colander. Let cool. Once cool, scrape the rind off the squash, if you cooked it in chunks, not scrapings.

Place the cooked squash in a food processor, or blender and blend until smooth, adding water as necessary. One good sized pumpkin yields about 4 cups mash.

The color of the pulp will not be a deep burnt orange, like you are used to seeing in the store bought fillings, because there are no color additives, just pure squash which is more of a yellowish color.

Use your pumpkin filling in your favorite pie recipe, cookies, muffins and soups and enjoy the fresh, additive free flavor of real pumpkin.

As for the seeds, wash them thoroughly, spread them out on a lightly oiled cookie sheet, sprinkle lightly with salt if desired, and bake at 350 degrees in the oven for 30 minutes or until just slightly turning brown. Cool. Eat them as is as a snack, chop them up and sprinkle on salads or as a garnish.

Nutritional qualities of Pumpkins and Pumpkin Seeds

Pumpkins have large amounts of antioxidants and beta-carotene. Antioxidants help strengthen our immune system. Beta-carotene converts to Vitamin A and helps reduce the risk of cancer and disease. Pumpkins are very low in fat and calories, and high in potassium. They have a fair amount of Vitamin C, niacin, vitamin E, calcium and iron. Pumpkins have high water content and provide a food source of water.

Pumpkin seeds are also said to help prevent kidney stones, as well as a remedy to help combat depression.

Isn’t nature grand and abundant?

Tips to selecting, carving, and preserving the perfect Halloween Pumpkin. Your jack-o-lantern can last longer with these tips. Some tips to having your pumpkin without the hassle of carving it.

With the beginning of Autumn this month many excited youngsters and youngsters at heart are looking forward to selecting and carving their scarey Jack-o-lanterns for Halloween. Nothing is worse than selecting and carving the scariest pumpkin, just to have it shriveled before the big nights.

Image via Wikipedia

Selecting the pumpkin: when selecting the pumpkin check the stem to be sure it appears fresh and not already shriveled (shriveled stems means the pumpkin is not as fresh as it may appear). The fresher the pumpkin you select the longer the pumpkin will last.

Carving the pumpkin: You can buy special kits specifically designed for pumpkins but that is not necessary. Try using a drywall saw (they run $4 – $10). These saws have easy-grip handles and are easier to control when carving the pumpkin, they are also safer to hold and prevent cutting your hands.

Preserve Your Pumpkin: Once you have carved your pumpkin, you should preserve it so that the carved pumpkin will last longer and look good longer. Mix about a tablespoon of bleach with a quart of water and use the mixture to wipe down the pumpkin inside and out to remove bacteria, then coat the cut edges with a layer of petroleum jelly to prevent moisture and bacteria from entering those areas. This should help to lengthen your enjoyment of you Halloween pumpkin.

Carve Free Pumpkins: There are also many great ways to enjoy your pumpkin without the mess and hassle of carving them. You can remove the stems at the base, take a candle and light it, allow the wax to drip where the stem was then place the candle in that spot. This makes a lovely candle stick holder that adds charm, however, do not leave these unattended.

Using mini-pumpkins you can remove the stems and carve a hole where the stems were, the size that a tealight candle would fit. Fit the hole with a tealight, when lit, these make adorable decorations but should never be left unattended.

You can also use stencils and spray paint designs onto the pumpkin. Another attractive way to display your Halloween jack-o-lanterns is to wrap the pumpkin in white holiday lights.

Grinnin’ at Ya!

Big teeth and googly eyes make for a scary sentinel. I like this design style and always forget to peel the rind of the pumpkin to reveal the toothy pulp of the pumpkin. This would look great on a table next to Halloween treats and a large bowl of apple cider punch. You are still left to wonder however, do you eat the pumpkin or does the pumpkin eat you?

Basic Jack-O-Lantern

A bit more traditional and certainly playful, this silly grin is good for the little ones that will come begging at your door this weekend. Make their night memorable and dress-up your jack-o-lantern with a silly grin.

They are Everywhere!

A little something to look at as you are walking to the haunted house or through the cemetery… be careful where you step!

Zombies in the Night

For the older crowd, some illusion and allusion to demons and zombies wandering through Hades. The flickering of candlelight behind these silhouettes make for a deeply disturbing and frightful atmosphere. The doorway to Hades has been opened…

Intricate Pumpkin Art

Reminiscent of a Mayan calendar, this nouveau artsy design is very nice. Worried about year 2012 prophesies and the end of things? Show your respect to the Mayan gods and tread lightly around this delicate Cucurbita decoration.

Darth Vader Pumpkin

Even more popular than that son-of-a-Sith Luke, the ever popular Darth Vader waits for young Jedi to come begging for candy and finds your lack of faith disturbing.

Face And Lisa Simpson’s Cat?

 and

These are great! I love the one on the right, -it looks like Lisa Simpson’s cat ‘Snowball.’ Although there have been five Lisa Simpson cats named “Snowball” and of various colors, the current one (#5) is styled to look like the #2 Snowball in order to prevent confusion. Gee …reminds me of one of my sister’s cat “Honey.” She had four or five cats (one at a time) whose name was “Honey.”

Battlestar: Galactica Cylon-O-Lantern

 and

The original Battlestar: Galactica TV series for the 1970s had these cybernetic robots called “Cylons” which, despite being far less scary than the modern remade series, these were still by far more cool. This one has a roving red dot for an eye, -just like the classic Cylons. That was pretty intimidating for its time. It was pretty innovative though in the remake series that the Cylon vessels themselves were ‘alive.’

For When that Mac Attack Hits

You have got to be very hungry to eat one of these! This has got to be one of the most creative jack-o-lantern derivatives that I have ever seen! I love that the pumpkin seeds are placed to resemble sesame seeds on the upper bun. Brilliant!

Dangerous when Hungry

This is very neat! I have to try this! Could you imagine having a candle on inside of both of these? I mean, -not in the yard with those flammable leaves of course, but up on the porch or in your bay window?

Simple Can Be Great!

For those who hate clowns, get loads of this one. I like the sliced olives for eyeball pupils.

Be Safe This Halloween!

What is the Difference Between These Two Spherical Objects?

 and

-The one on the LEFT will soon have a light on inside!

Are you tired of the same old, same old Halloween pumpkin fair--cutesy pumpkins with jigsaw mouths and triangle noses and eyes? Big yawn! You want to make a statement with your jack-o-lantern. You aim to carve a masterpiece: a gross pumpkin that will stir the contents of trick-or-treaters' intestines and make them feel like they're gonna hurl. This article provides you with how-to tips and the needed inspiration to carve your own vomiting pumpkin.

You Need Not Be a Creative Genius to Carve a Gross Pumpkin

The beauty of creating the perfect vomiting pumpkin is that you need not be an artistic genius. The pumpkin’s puke itself is going to be the focus of your masterpiece so you need not worry too much about the skill with which you carve your vomiting pumpkin. The following two pumpkin specimens prove my point. The artistic skill with which they were created is average, but the effect they produce is very effective. They are indeed sick, disgusting, and revolting jack-o-lanterns.

Consider the Facial Expression of Your Vomiting Pumpkin

Now while you need not be a creative virtuoso to carve a gross pumpkin that will have the desired gross-out effect, a little consideration of your vomiting pumpkin’s facial expression can help. You should aim to carve a pumpkin that has a face that illustrates its under-the-weather state. Consider making one of its eyeballs bulge out or carve squinting eyeballs to convey its discomfort.

Include Props for Added Gross Pumpkin Effect

You might want to include some props to establish the reason your vomiting pumpkin is in its current debilitated state. Some empty beer bottles or half-eaten candy bars should do the trick.

Mix in Other Food Items into Your Gross Pumpkin’s Vomit

The effect of the above gross pumpkin could be exponentially improved by mixing in other food items into its vomit. You can easily transform a blase vomiting pumpkin to gross pumpkin masterpiece by mixing in a few choice food items, such as a nice, colorful, chunky bean salsa, stew, or salad and/or fresh chunks of watermelon. These items look appealing when they are served but consider how they’ll look half-digested.

Find a Strategic Placement for Your Vomiting Pumpkin

The placement of your gross pumpkin can help you achieve the effect you want. Think of how to strategically place your pumpkin to achieve the biggest impact on trick-or-treaters or other Halloween guests. Perhaps you want to have your gross pumpkin puking on the head of a second pumpkin or puking on the Halloween dinner table. Or you could have your gross pumpkin hurling into the kitchen sink or guest toilet. Ah, the possibilities are endless.

Looking for something a little different this Halloween? Want something more interesting than the normal boring face? These are some of the coolest, free, pumpkin stencils available on the internets!

So that time of the year is almost upon us once again. Halloween is one of my favourite holidays. Not only is it creepy, but it’s also a good excuse to invite a few friends around for take away food, beer and scary movies. Jack-o-laterns, in my opinion, help make Halloween what it is. They can be both creepy and amusing. I find however, that despite my best intentions they never quite turn out how I planned. A couple of years ago, I discovered pumpkin stencils. They’re perfect for those of you out there who are like me and lack any kind of artistic talent. All you have to do it print it out and stick it to the front of the pumpkin. Then just cut out the chunks until you’re left with a pumpkin that looks like it was carved by a professional.

Here are my top 5 copyright free, pumpkin stencils:

Jason Vorhees

Nothing quite says Halloween like Jason and the Friday the 13th series. This is an easy stencil that anybody should be able to pull off, perfect if you, like me, plan on showing the Friday the 13th films to your friends. Stick this by the front door and your friends will know they are in for one hell of an evening!

The Joker

The Dark Knight was a huge box office hit. Why not celebrate the movie, the villains and of course Heath Ledger in the performance of his lifetime with this Joker pumpkin stencil. Again this is an easy template to follow, just be careful with the nose and the bit of the eyes that stick out. Although Batman may not be a Halloween themed movie, it is still a damn good movie. Bats… Batman…. Halloween… It could work!

The Black Pearl

Carve this and you will really have a unique pumpkin. Who else in your area is gonna be rocking a Black Pearl pumpkin? This is quite a hard one to pull off, even with the stencil being numbered to make it a little easier. Extra care should be taken around the sails as they break easily. If you want to make this a little easier you can also skip the first step, leaving out the windows and the waves. Pirates of the Caribbean makes quite a good movie on Halloween for those a bit too squeamish for some real gore fests. It has zombies, pirates and a ghostship. Sounds like Halloween to me.

Jack Skellington

Everybody loves The Nightmare Before Christmas. Everybody loves Jack. This is a guarenteed hit with everyone who is lucky enough to see it. This pumpkin stencil is not too challenging, the mouth is the hardest part but as long as care is taken it should turn out ok. The Nightmare Before Christmas is another good movie for those of you who are squeamish or who have kids around. Yes, it’s a musical but the majority of the movie takes place in Halloween Town, providing plenty of scary moments. This movie has Halloween and Christmas, the two best holidays together in one movie. Come together with friends and celebrate Hallo-ristmas?

Evil Dead III: Army of Darkness

This is one bad ass looking pumpkin carving. Ash and his chainsaw are one of the biggest icons in horror. Everyone knows that zombies and the undead are a menace to society, stick this outside your house and the dead will know not to mess with you. This isn’t a hard stencil to follow, be warned however, that the chainsaw blade and the stringy bit on the knee need a little care to be taken. Any film from the Evil Dead series will make for a highly entertaining evening of comedy horror. It’s cheesy, it’s gory and full of one liners. What’s not to like? This… is my boomstick!

Well those are some of my favourites, a google search will reveal more than I have time to discuss. These are all copyright free so copy, paste and print!
Those of you who want more, copyrighted stencils, check out: www.zombiepumpkins.com for some awesome designs, you’ll need to pay a small fee but it will be more than worth it when you’re rocking the coolest pumpkins in the hood!

Pumpkin-carving fun.

Since it is nearly Halloween and everywhere we look we are seeing pumpkins, I thought it would be nice to write a little about the pumpkins in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania is the third largest pumpkin growing state in the country. A Lot of the pumpkins grown in Pennsylvania are shipped to other states. Children as well as adults love going into the pumpkin patches to select their very own pumpkins for decorating for Halloween, but if you aren’t into walking the pumpkin patches to find just the perfect pumpkin then all you have to do is head to the stores, farmers market for the road side fruit stands and you will find just the right pumpkin. pumpkins are harvest from about seven thousand six-hundred acres of land through out Pennsylvania.

Some folks enjoy carving their pumpkins while other folks would rather paint the faces on their pumpkins. The painted pumpkins last longer than the ones that are carved. The carved ones tend to rot faster, people tend to enjoy carving their pumpkins because they can then put a light such as a small candle inside the carved pumpkin to make the faces shine in the night. Pumpkin harvesting begins in Pennsylvania in September and runs through October. Pumpkins come in all shapes and sizes, the most common pumpkin is the Jack-O-Lantern. The decoration of the Halloween pumpkin can be fun for all ages, many different faces are made rather painted or carved you will see happy faces, sad faces, scowling faces, faces with no teeth and many with teeth. Ni mater how you choose to do your pumpkin just remember to have fun doing it and remember to keep Halloween safe. Happy Halloween to all!
