What Does It Mean to be Poor?

In the context of having a good quality of life, it means having access to valuable resources such as clean water, food, and shelter: a human right (Miller, 2007). In the context of illiterate, it means having the inability to function effectively in the daily processes of living. In other contexts, it means hunger, despair, defeat. Essentially, how one chooses to define poverty can have serious consequences on human lives (Henslin, 2008).
