Is the term, "poor" simply a word? What does it mean to be poor? In the context of this article, it means to be illiterate having daily confrontation with lack of resources needed to insure a good quality of life. In the context of having a good quality of life, it means having access to valuable resources such as clean water, food, and shelter: a human right (Miller, 2007). In the context of illiterate, it means having the inability to function effectively in the daily processes of living. In other contexts, it means hunger, despair, defeat. Essentially, how one chooses to define poverty can have serious consequences on human lives (Henslin, 2008).

Oh what sweet pleasure, how pleasant and what great advantage there is in a rural lifestyle, growing up country, living where the air is fresh and the world around you is more serene. For most of my life I have lived in small villages with open country, woods, farms all around me. There are advantages to rural life that do not come with any other life style. There is a freedom in country living that does not exist in life in the city.

World Values Survey, sponsored by National Science Foundation, a US
government agency, issued a report in July 2008. The report shows that
generally the world was getting happier. Among all, Denmark was the happiest country in the world because of her social equality and harmony.Zimbabwe was the least happy country due to political and social
turmoil, followed by Moldova in Eastern Europe and Armenia in
Central Asia. The three countries were the poorest in the world
and were regarded as political autocracies by the western world.
The mainland and Taiwan ranked 54th and 48th respectively.
Hong Kong ranked 63th, the lowest among the East Asian
countries.

The quality of life refers to individual’s satisfaction level in different aspects of life. Except wealth, it involves different aspects at both personal and social levels, such as health, social welfare and level of cohesion. Wealth, as one of the satisfactions in life, is too little to guarantee us a good quality of life.
