Special guests, special surprises.

Some time during my last semester of college I had decided to take a job as a front desk associate for a well known chain hotel. I had extensive experience working in customer service, and while I was not planning to make it my career, I truly enjoyed the spontaneity that came when dealing with the general public.

I was no stranger to the concept of being on the receiving end of a terrible customer. Prior to this I worked in retail at a large chain record store and eventually a high end fashion shop. Hospitality was one category I was yet to work and I became excited at the thought of who I would meet and what I would say. I imagined meeting many people who traveled on business which would give me the opportunity to spark conversations that would leave them home sick but comforted or completely uncomfortable and validated their hatred for work travel.

People would be delighted to speak with me and it would allow me to learn more about our wonderful country without traveling to every state. I imagined asking them about their local produce and to compare the ugliness of our citizens to those in their city. It is important to know how much uglier people are in other states; not just for curiosity’s sake but also to feed egos and have extra leverage in a never ending argument. “Oh yeah…well…I heard everyone in Tulsa has questionable amounts of space between their eyes and significant overbites.”

Of course I knew there would also be standard moments of frustration and tension. Meeting all different types of people meant conversations with personalities that clashed with my own. I also imagined talking myself down from heated discussions about the city’s large gay population or the amount of liberals allowed to protest the streets in heavy traffic with large signs and bold letters telling us to stop eating our pets and start growing our own vegetables. I prepared myself for more of these moments than anything else. I guess that is why I appreciated the pleasant bonding experiences with customers so much more. These type of coin toss extremes was what made up the unpredictability of being responsible for the comfort of complete strangers. There were times when people would be wonderfully delightful or make me fear for my own life.

The hotel was a hotspot for gatherings such as weddings and meetings due to the spacious halls and second largest convention center in the state. About every three weeks or so we would sell out and be overbooked for events such as the National NA conference or batmitzvahs for the overly spoiled and obnoxiously needy. On these days we were quite busy with lines of people to check in, heavy calls for extra towels or damaged air conditioners, and confusion of who booked when and was discounted what. It was chaotic but fun because it kept me busy and too tired to notice when someone living by the phrase “The Customer Is Always Right” was verbally expressing their dissatisfaction.

When no events were occurring, time slowed down significantly, and I would even wish for conflict to nudge my brain awake, get my heart beating to heat my blood, pulse it through my veins and energize myself to get through the remainder of my 8 hour day. On these days I would keep myself busy by organizing the front desk. I would organize the pile of key cards and key card holders so all images were right side up and faced one direction. I would even stack cards next to the key card maker in adequate amounts in such a way that when an associate pulled one from the pile no others fell after it. Eventually this only took me about 20 minutes or so and I was set back to boredom. Watching people roll their luggage in and out of our lobby, ask for the occasional direction to McDonalds’ and eavesdrop on cell phone conversations to home only took up so much of my day. I would then move onto cleaning the front desk which included dusting behind computer monitors, underneath keyboards, tossing trash, finding all of the pens to fill the pen cups and sometimes vacuuming our crumb ridden navy blue carpet. Even if things appeared to look immaculate I knew there was no such thing as an overly clean hotel and an overly OCD front desk associate.

During one of my routine cleanings I was neatly stacking the fresh Daily News newspapers when I noticed a customer satisfaction card tucked behind a key card maker. We would pass out postcard sized surveys to all customers checking in to fill out and share about their experiences. They were free to rate us on scales of “1″ being “extremely dissatisfied” to “5″ being “extremely satisfied” on everything from housekeeping to room comfort. They were then asked to return such cards to a friendly associate who would place it into our survey bin and all would be reviewed by management at the end of each week. I slowly moved the key card maker as to not disturb my pile of key cards and key card holders to retrieve this mystery survey. Upon doing so I noticed all circles were in the “5s” for “extremely satisfied” along with a stapled piece of paper in the upper left corner of the card. I walked to the back employee area and tore off the paper, placing the survey card in the survey card bin and finding appropriate light to read. I looked around to ensure no one noticed I was not working and unfolded it.

It contained one sentence: “I Spooged In The Bathtub”

Just like that. No additional details, no names, no room numbers. Just these words written in Catholic school script on this withered piece of paper. I immediately crumpled it in my hands as if reading it to myself had inadvertently also come out of my mouth and into the intercom that connected to all of housekeeping’s’ walkie-talkies. When I finally realized that no one had heard me read what I had in my hands I began to uncover it again and slowly read: “I…Spooged…”

I held it tightly in my palm and slowly opened the connecting door to the front desk and noticed my coworker was reading in the corner. I refolded the paper, following the natural crevices created by the original author, and slowly slid it in front of her like a deep dark secret from an exclusive club only she and I were members of.

“What is it?” she asked.

I did not say anything and only smiled at her with laughter in my eyes. She put down her book and unfolded the note, reading it once, then turning it side ways as if it were written in an entirely different language. Her brows furrowed and she frowned. I was fixated on her face when she held it upright again and stared back with the type of look a girl has the first time she see a penis in Playgirl magazine. I nodded my head and held my mouth from laughing. She did the same and we both just stood there in silence grinning. After a few seconds the stares we gave one another were a bit awkward because we both knew we were playing out the scenarios of bathtub spooging in our heads.

“Was it an accident?” I thought. “Perhaps there was a toilet seat jerking moment and the man was standing when he was startled by someone knocking on the door during the finale so he immediately turned and exploded all over the bathtub.”

“Was it on purpose?” I also imagined. “Perhaps we had a hardcore bathroom BDSM couple that loved the feel of cold porcelain against their skin and being spanked on dangerous surfaces where they teetered on the edge of severe head trauma.”

I had only known my coworker for a few weeks now and had never once had conversations about bodily fluids so I did not know if it were appropriate to discuss the possible details. Neither of us said anything for the remainder of our shift but I could tell we were both humored and overly suspicious.

Whenever a customer came up to the front desk to check out I would casually smile but over analyze them in my head. “How was your stay Mr. Paul?” I would ask. All the while thinking “Was there spooge in your tub Mr. Paul?”

“Did you enjoy your stay with us Ms. Harcum?” I would inquire. All while thinking “Did you hear anyone ejaculating in the bathroom next yours room Ms. Harcum?”

I even went pretty far as interrogating a customer about their visit.

“Was everything to your liking Mr. Stephens?”

“Oh yes hun. Thank you for asking.”
“How was the bathtub? Anything out of the ordinary Mr. Stephens?”
“Oh no dear. It was quite alright.”
“Oh? No strange slime of any kind. Nothing feeling funny? No extreme stench of chlorine?”
Mr. Stephens stared at me as I searched for his invoice and cleared his payment.
“….No…” he hesitated “Everything was normal.”

Although he claimed everything was normal a spooge filled tub may be Mr. Stephens’ “normal” in all of his bathtubs. I left him alone and decided to stop investigating through heavy questioning. Joy juice in the tub may not be abnormal to me but to others it may be the icing on their extreme sexual fantasy cake. My coworker and I spread the information farther among the other associates and we continued to giggle about it until the day I quit. We never really uncovered any more details but I told them to immediately call me when someone leaves a note that says “I shat in the closet.”

Governments should not be expected to take sole responsibility for reducing the number of road accidents; individuals should share this responsibility. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Some governments say how many children a family can have in their country. They may control the number of children someone has through taxes. It is sometimes necessary and right for a government to control the population in this way. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In recent years, life has become more stressful than it has ever been. As a result, more and more people are suffering from stress related problems. What factors are contributing to this increase? What do you think can be done to overcome the current problems?

The rising levels of congestion and air pollution found in the most of worlds’ cities can be attributed directly to the rapidly increasing number of cars. In order to reverse this decline in the quality of life in cities, attempts must be made to encourage people to use their cars less and public transport more. Discuss possible ways to encourage the public transport.

Children should never be educated at home by their parents. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Some people think that, a sense of competition in children should be encouraged. Others believe that, children who are taught to co-operate rather than compete become more useful adults. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Disruptive school students have a negative influence on others. Students who are noisy and disobedient should be grouped together and taught separately. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

About how we should decide life time decisions later on in our lives so we are sure what we want to pursue.

This article is really towards students who have to make career choices or uni degree choices.

It’s that time of year where you have to make decisions. Lots and lots of decisions. If you want to go to university? If you don’t want to go to university? What course are you going to do? What institution are you going to do at? So many questions to be answered and decisions to be made at the age of 17/18 years. Wouldn’t it be better if we were made to keep all the important subjects till a later age, so we have all the subjects needed to do whatever we want because when choosing your A levels, you may have a specific career in mind, but when it comes to choosing your university degree, then you may realise that the subjects you chose are of no use?

This is just a little thought to think about and dwell on. Do not make rash decisions too soon or you may live to regret it.

What if questions are a great way to stretch the imagination, and a really good way to find new writing ideas. Here are 10 what if questions of my own.

What if…

The world really were flat?

*What would happen? Would we not have enough space to live, what with the rapidly growing population?

You were never born?

*Where would your parents be? What would your friends be like? Would you siblings be any different?

North America was never found?

*What would happen? Would we still be subject to England’s rule?

The South won the Civil War?

*Would slaves still be around today? Who do you know that would not be alive because of it?

We had time machines?

What do you think you would go back and do? Would the world be changing every second, but we just don’t remember how it used to be?
Your favorite movie/book/series character came to life?

*Would you become best friends, worst enemies, how would life be? Would it change everything in your small town?

School didn’t exist?

*How uneducated would the youth, and adults, of america be?

Pollutants didn’t exist?

*What if we(humans) had never found, or invented things that were pollutants? How different would the world be, for both industrialism and for the earth?

Christmas was in the spring?

*What is Jesus was born in the spring? Would it be any different? What would happen to spring break? No more white christmasses?

everyone had superpowers?

*in your opinion, what would happen? If everyone’s super, then nobody is.

The removal of heads of Nigeria'a anti graft agency are being removed in controversial circumstances and Nigerians are beginning to wonder whether there is any sincerity in the anti graft war.

Anti Graft War : Was it programmed to fail?

By Abdulrazaq Magaji,

Abuja, Nigeria

.Corruption has been a major issue in Nigeria since independence. But at no time was it brought under the searchlight as has happened since the nation returned to participatory democracy in 1999. When he assumed office in May, 1999, former president, General Olusegun Obasanjo, in deference to public outcry by civil society groups and other Nigerians alike made an unsolicited vow to bring corruption to its knees. As a mark of that resolve, he set up the EFCC or Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC. But throughout his eight years in power, the two anti corruptions acted in a way that left a sour taste in the mouth of Nigerians.

Though the anti corruption agencies succeeded in making some noises, which created the impression that a Daniel had indeed come to judgment, Nigerians were soon to discover that they have, once again, been taken for a jolly ride by a president whose agenda was anything sincere in his anti corruption crusade. The EFCC under its first chairman, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, soon opened up itself to charges by Nigerians that the agency, rather than one set up to wage a war against corruption, was a like a ferocious dog unleashed by the former president to haunt and hunt political rivals of the president and forced them to tow the line. The largely docile ICPC did not fare better. Bogged down by unusual anti corruption crusaders in its top echelon, the ICPC trailed far behind its more enterprising photocopy, the EFCC, a situation which provoked calls from many quarters for its abrogation or merger with the EFCC. Between both agencies, not a few politicians had corruption cases against them dropped the moment they scampered from their former political parties and took cover under the cosy umbrella of the ruling PDP or Peoples Democratic Party. Were the anti corruption agencies programmed to fail?

‘Yes’, said Bola Maruf Shittu, a civil engineer turned politician in an interview with Sardauna Magazine. ’From the very first day, both the EFCC and ICPC acted in a manner to suggest they were not meant to succeed. You could see this in the selective manner the agencies handled corruption cases. You want to fight corruption with kid gloves? No! Corruption is not something you fight with kid gloves.’ Suleiman Danlami, Abuja based rights activist was unsparing in his criticism of the two agencies. According to him, the two anti graft agencies, especially the more enterprising EFCC betrayed the trust of Nigerians when the agency turned itself into an arm of the PDP used to harass political opponents. He asked: ‘How can I have sympathy for (Mallam Nuhu) Ribadu when he had the chance to quit at the point he realized he was going to fight some people’s dirty war?’

Though then EFCC chairman constantly said he was not doing the bidding of the former president, he could as well have saved his breath. At a presidential campaign rally in Akure, capital of Ondo state, the former president confirmed the suspicion of Nigerians that the EFCC was indeed an agency he set up to harass political opponents. After pouring invectives on Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, a former minister in the PDP government who later switched camp to the opposition Labour Party, Obasanjo publicly vowed to scuttle the governorship ambition of Mimiko by unleashing his ferocious EFCC dogs on him. ‘The battle line is now drawn’, he told his cheering audience. ‘That boy will soon realize his mistakes the moment we unleash the EFCC on him. Mimiko defied the odds and went on to win the election.

Though Ribadu won accolades at home and abroad for what critics called his too much motion and no speed efforts, he stepped on some big, sore toes when he attempted to right the wrong of the past, after his principal left office. The departure of Obasanjo must have created an impression in the mind of Ribadu that under Obasanjo’s successor, the late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua, his commission would get the necessary teeth it needed to bite and to work without any one breathing down his neck. That turned out to be a miscalculation because, as he was to discover under President Yar’adua, nothing had removed the sacredness from the fat cows he thought should be prosecuted for corruption. Ribadu barely escaped with his life after he became a sitting duck following his unceremonious removal from office for daring to investigate some corrupt politicians who allegedly bank rolled late President Yar’adua’s election.

The three years his successor, Mrs Farida Waziri, a retired officer, stayed in office were equally eventful before she too, typical of military era style, was unceremoniously shown the gate. Few months after she took over in 1998, Mrs Waziri spoke of attempts by some prominent people to get her out of the way, a swan song she kept singing for the better part of her tenure. Even though she did not say so in public, many Nigerians believed she too started stepping on toes to have warranted some corrupt officials to press for her ouster. One major example of how she stepped on toes, apart from the high profile corruption cases her agency was pursuing, was her constant call for a special court to be established, outside regular courts, to try corruption cases. Under a judicial system where technicalities supersede substance, many corrupt officials would have met their waterloo in the type of special courts Mrs. Waziri canvassed. Probably to underline the gravity of her offence, she heard the breaking news of her removal, like every other Nigerian, on radio and television while President Goodluck Jonathan was airborne on a visit to France.

Aside offending many by canvassing for a special court to handle corruption cases, prominent politicians, especially members of the National Assembly had an axe to grind with Mrs. Waziri. While in office, the EFCC was prosecuting former Federal House speaker, Dimeji Saburi Bankole, for a multi million Naira fraud which some principal officers of the current National Assembly were alleged to be involved in. It came as no surprise to Nigerians that in the heat of the lingering Bankole corruption case, the House of Representatives began moves to tinker with the act establishing the EFCC to restrict its headship to serving federal judges. Some imaginative Nigerians alleged then that a federal judge who would one day face the National Assembly to be screened and confirmed for a higher judicial office would have his hands tied in corruption cases involving members of the same legislative body. If feelers from the National Assembly are anything to go by, the proposed amendment to the EFCC Act may receive accelerated attention and Ibrahim Lamorde, appointed to act as chairman of EFCC may soon make way for a substantive chairman who will fit the billing of the House of Representative. So far, three federal judges are said to be positioning themselves for the position.

Those who likened Mrs. Waziri to a pawn in a game of chess may, after all, have a valid point. To those who canvass this view, her removal became a matter of priority for the presidency if only to serve as a bait to get the critical support of members of the National Assembly to change their position on the planned removal of fuel subsidy. Since the Federal Government defied public outcry to push for the removal of fuel subsidy, many members have jumped into the fray and indicated their preparedness to vote down the planned removal if, as is expected, it is presented for debate at the National Assembly. If top presidency officials thought members of the National Assembly were half hearted in their opposition to what they considered ‘a matter of national priority’, they changed their opinion when members of the two arms of government met at the Presidential Villa last month to, in the words of presidency officials, rub minds on the touchy issue of removal of fuel subsidy. Apparently taken unawares by the consistent and widespread opposition of members to the issue, the presidency officials must have gone back to re strategise. As things stand, the removal of Mrs. Waziri may turn out to be an enticing bait the National Assembly may find difficult to ignore in their quest to tinker with the EFCC Act.

‘This is a matter of you rub my back, I rub yours,’ said Danlami. ‘For some curious reasons, government is bent on removing fuel subsidy and Nigerians, inspite of their opposition to the idea, would have assumed to have endorsed it the moment their supposed representatives have endorsed it.’ Similar views were expressed by Dayo Olanrewaju, a former House of Representative aspirant of the ruling PDP in Abuja. ‘To my mind, this is a joker the presidency is playing at a wrong time. The mood of Nigerians is against it(removal of fuel subsidy) and I hope the president plays his joker right.’

Either way it goes, the removal of Mrs. Waziri as EFCC chairman is capable of putting the anti corruption war in serious jeopardy largely due to the wrong signals it is sending. Considering the messy circumstances that surrounded the removal of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and Mrs. Farida Waziri, whoever takes charge of EFCC would inherit a badly dented anti corruption agency with no image to protect. By indicating its aversion to unbridled radicalism, the incoming helmsman, even in the unlikely event of its being Lamorde, an old face at EFCC, would be expected adhere strictly to the unwritten rules of treading cautiously, ensuring the status quo remains and provide cover for those who run foul of the anti corruption war. The brakes, which the removal of Mrs. Waziri has effectively put to her call for the establishment of a special court to try corruption cases also means that treasury looters will continue afford the services of some of the best legal hands to exploit loopholes in the judicial system, get away with their loot through plea bargaining or get what amounts to a mere slap on the wrist even if they are eventually found guilty. According to Olanrewaju: ‘Nothing will change and the situation will get worse for the simple fact that many will be prepared to endure six months in jail if they know they will end up with their loot largely untouched.’

The nation’s anti corruption did not begin with the return to participatory democracy in 1999. In the immediate post independence years, the government of nation’s first and only prime minister, the late Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa declared corruption as the nation’s main enemy. In the early 1970’s, General Yakubu Gowon recognized the dangers corruption posed to the nation and in fighting it, his government promulgated the ‘Corrupt Practices Decree No. 38 of 1975. His successor, the late General Murtala Ramat Muhammad came to power in July, 1975 with a vow to fight corruption. Part of his effort was that, before he was assassinated in February, 1976, his government sacked about 10,000 civil servants on the basis of corruption and related matters.

In his first coming, General Obasanjo who succeeded General Murtala Muhammad outlined a road map to his war against corruption in his popular Jaji Declaration of 1978. Three years after he took over, President Shehu Shagari, Nigeria’s first executive president felt so concerned about the high incidence of indiscipline and corruption and inaugurated an Ethical Revolution Committee . After him, General Muhammadu Buhari swore never to ‘tolerate kickback, inflation of contracts, forgeries, fraud and abuse of office’ and his government, with the support of his deputy, the late General Abdulbaaqi Babatunde Idiagbon pursued a war against indiscipline in is effort to fight corruption.

The trend continued under President Ibrahim badamasi Babangida who resuscitated the Code of Conduct Bureau to which he added the Code of Conduct Tribunal in 1989 to handle corruption cases. For the same purpose, the late General Sani Abacha set up the Failed Banks Tribunal and promulgated the ‘Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Decree No. 13 of 1995’. But on his second coming, General Obasanjo took the crusade to a higher level with the establishment of EFCC and ICPC. But in an ironic twist of fate, his eight year reign has been carpeted, wrongly or rightly, as a period when the art of corruption was perfected. Senator Arthur Nzeribe, controversial politician and a former presidential aspirant is one of those who believe President Obasanjo was less than sincere in his anti corruption crusade .

Chief Nzeribe, in a recent interview with a tabloid and published online said he placed a big question mark on President Obasanjo’s anti corruption crusade the moment his government failed to act on the list of 300 Nigerians he presented to the former president and who he alleged had stolen beyond their want. ‘His response to my presentation was non-committal. When he, however, pushed for the establishment of EFCC, the thinking then was that the government would be resolute in combating corruption. The subsequent revelation by the Wikileaks of the meeting between the former US Ambassador to Nigeria, Robin Sanders, and the pioneer chairman of EFCC, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, where Ribadu allegedly described corruption under President Olusegun Obasanjo as worse than that of the late General Sani Abacha, clearly supported what many had already known that corruption was thriving then.’ He recalled the dirty war of words between President Obasanjo and his deputy, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar during which both men leveled allegations of corruption at each other as a dark period in the nation’s anti corruption crusade. His words: ‘The fact that former president of Nigeria and his deputy openly attested to the fact that they are both corrupt, by calling themselves thieves, shows that nobody is afraid of corruption. That event alone was enough to sack both men from office, particularly as none of them went to court to clear his name; after all silence means acquiescence.’

Apart from the Obasanjo/Atiku face off, there were, indeed, high profile corruption cases during the Obasanjo presidency which, in the estimation of Chief Nzeribe, were clear indications of how the anti corruption agencies shielded those he called ‘magnates of the corruption industry’ in Nigeria. One of such cases is the one that involved Dr. Julius Makanjuola, a cousin of the former president and then Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence who was alleged to have misappropriated N400 million. Not a few eye brows were raised when then Attorney General of the Federation, Kanu Agabi, filed a nolle prosequi that effectively terminated the case.

Another high profile corruption cases involved Chief Tony Anenih, Minister of Works in President Obasanjo’s first term that ended in 2003. Until the case was fatally jeopardized, Chief Anenih allegedly failed to account for how he spent the billions of naira appropriated for his ministry for repairs and maintenance of the nation’s highways and bridges. He is yet to account for the N10 billion appropriated for his ministry to wage war on poverty nationwide. President Obasanjo did not find it expedient to sanction him probably because it was not considered serious enough or the former president was pre occupied with pressing state matters to direct the EFCC to investigate the case. Seemingly invincible as ever, the face of Chief Anenih, a former police officer, remains a permanent feature at Wadata House and he remains one man party officials is depend on when the arises to fix the party colourful umbrella.

Other cases include the N30 billion naira COJA contracts racket; the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) contract scams during Ben Bruce’s headship; the role of Professor Okebukola, former executive secretary of the National Universities Commission in the Osuji – Wabara N55 million Federal Ministry of Education’s budget appropriation scandal; former Central Bank Governor (CBN), Professor Chukwuma Soludo’s N50 million gift to a Committee of the National Assembly; the financial scam at the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, involving PDP chieftain Olabode George and Alhaji Aminu for which both men were given light jail terms after Obasanjo left office. There was also the serial bungling of many privatisation exercises of the BPE or Bureau of Public Enterprises, amongst others. Equally unresolved was the multi billion dollars financial scam in the Ministry of Power and Steel Development and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. The only high profile conviction during Obasanjo’s eight years of waging his anti corruption war was that of (Mus) Tafa Balogun, former Inspector-General of Police. Even at that, the former IGP got what amounted to a slap on the wrist; he was jailed for six months after which he returned home to a tumultuous welcome by an appreciating rented crowd, as has come to be the norm, to enjoy his loot.

Inspite of everything, there are Nigerians who believe there is still enough elbow room for the nation to maneuver. In one of his books, Nigeria: Seven Years After Shehu Shagari: Who Next? What Next?, published in 1990, Senator Nzeribe canvassed for the establishment of a Federal Agency Against Corruption, FACC, to fight corruption in the country. The FAAC, he wrote, he wrote, should be established with stringent laws, which could hardly be circumvented and which should have a board of 21 members, a national executive secretary, national director-general and two national assistant directors-general. One of the assistant directors-general, he suggested, should head the recovery arm of the agency while the other heads the preventive arm, with a host of investigators nationwide with each state having one representative on the board.

In its operation, Senator Nzeribe suggested that, rather than what is on ground now, his proposed FAAC should have federal and state arms, a list of movable and immovable assets – land, building, shares, even highly expensive cars – belonging to either serving or retired public officers. In the same way, it should compile list of all retired and serving military and civilian public officers, investigate their assets and lifestyles including those of their close friends and immediate family members without the aim to witch-hunt anybody. There should be fool-proof evidence to how the money for the property was acquired. Any officer – military or civil – who is unable to show clear proof of his sources of funds automatically forfeits the property to the state. But Senator Nzeribe said both the EFCC and ICPC cannot perform those roles because, in his

words, they are ‘terribly incompetent, docile, compromised and almost as corrupt as the corruption they should fight.’ So, what does the current official cluelessness on the anti corruption war portend?

Alhaji Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa, leader of the radical Peoples Redemption Party and first civilian governor of the old Kaduna state was blunt in his assessment. ‘There will be a revolution to reverse the system because the risk is too much,’ he said, adding: I do not see this system continuing because the risk (of continuing on the present course) is too much. And if we are God fearing, reasonable and relevant, then the best thing is to start a peaceful revolution.’ Senator Nzeribe agrees that the situation is not hopeless but he too alluded to the possibility of a non peaceful change if steps are not taken to reverse the present trend.‘If the political elite in Nigeria does not want to act to save themselves from the impending annihilation, the common man will do it’, he said. One way of scuttling ‘the impending annihilation’ and pull the rug under the feet of divisive militant groups is to end corruption. ’Just end corruption, he said ‘and get the Boko Haram problem and other restive groups solved.’

1. My biggest fear is of chalk. There was a bad sudoku experience in 7th grade... I don't want to talk about it.

So today I had an interview with a University of Chicago alumni. Fun stuff. Me being the awkward introvert that I am, I was pretty nervous about it at first. What do I say? What if I’m TOO honest? What’s really going to impress them? Should I be weird, or nerdy? How do I keep my self from bragging? How do I keep myself from admitting some of my school-related faults? How personal is too personal? What the fruit-loops am I supposed to WEAR to this thing?

All things considered, I think it went well. The conversation kept up for about an hour and a half, and she barely even asked me questions. She mostly just let me talk and, well, I have a lot to say about myself. It was easy; nowhere near as stressful as I expected. She probably would have made me stop talking earlier if she wasn’t impressed, so I feel pretty good about it.

And of course, she did not believe that I’m an introvert. It’s true. I’m an INFJ. I naturally prefer to be alone, but I am not shy or anti-social in the slightest. It’s complicated.

Anyway, for the sake of my sanity and anyone else worrying about interviews that can relate, these are the things I had wanted to mention that I forgot about:

Cretaphobia

In my freetime, I like to research things on the internet that have to do with colleges, novels, and psychology.

I work with the three-year-olds at church for two hours every week. Have since seventh grade. I am occasionally left in charge. Go me.

I don’t care what people think about me.

The Golden Rule is nonsense in my life. Can’t believe I left that one out! That’s important!

I think fedoras are really cool.

Surprisingly, that’s it. I made an entire list of things to talk about, and that’s all that I didn’t cover. Now of course I didn’t go in there and spout off everything I had prepared, but I was able to find an answer to every question and I only got tongue-tied once. If anything, I said too much, but I think that’s a good thing in an interview. They get to know you better that way.

Apparently the number of applicants is growing this year. Of course. I’m not surprised at all, but it is nerve-wracking. Wish me luck, friends and random strangers. The day I get that letter from Hogwarts will either be the best or the worst day of my life. Probably the best; I tend to be optimistic regardless of my situation. I just want to know.

Now it’s snowing. In November. In MEMPHIS. Snow doesn’t exist until January, stupid. Let’s just pretend this is for me; I can relax, de-stress, and eat cookies while happiness silently covers the ground. Life is wonderful, isn’t it?

Whenever you see that the unconscious mind is not answering your questions, this usually means that other issues in your life deserve your attention instead of those you believe. However, there is also another possibility that you must consider. Many times you receive answers to your questions in dreams, but you cannot understand that you are having the answers you need. You are not translating the meaning of dreams according to the scientific method of dream interpretation, but according to your imagination.

The unconscious mind answers all your questions in dreams, but it is not your server. The unconscious mind that produces your dreams in order to save you from craziness and terror is your doctor. Many times you will have to be patient, and care about learning what your doctor has to show you, before answering your questions.

When you follow dream therapy, you must have the attitude of a humble student who is following very important lessons. The unconscious mind is your doctor and teacher. It will answer your questions when you will learn the basics about many other matters.

First of all, you have to acquire certain knowledge. Otherwise, you won’t be able to understand the unconscious answers.

Sometimes the unconscious mind immediately answers your questions because you are asking exactly what you have to know. For example, when you are facing difficult challenges, the unconscious mind is very generous with you. You immediately receive answers for all your questions. You have true information about everything.

However, when you have to be cured because you are mentally ill, you must follow a certain process. Your doctor knows what you have to learn before learning something else. You must be patient.

If the unconscious mind is not answering your questions, this is because you have to care about things that are more important than what you want to know. For example, you may desire to know if you should accept a business preposition or not. However, instead of answering this question, the unconscious mind keeps sending you dreams about the person you love.

You may believe that you have a good love relationship even though it is not perfect, and the unconscious mind should leave this matter for later. You want to know what you have to do in the financial area. This is your most important problem at the moment (according to your opinion).

However, the unconscious mind knows everything. Therefore, it knows better than you what is more important for you and your life.

If you are making serious mistakes and your relationship is in danger, you must prevent a sad life situation. You may have to face serious problems with your partner, which will have a definitive impact in your life. Money won’t help you feel better if you’ll lose the person you love.

You may believe that your relationship is good because you are neglecting important details. Perhaps your partner needs your attention. Later, the unconscious mind will give you advice about your business.

You may believe that you cannot wait. However, the unconscious mind knows the problems you are able to solve by yourself, and what problems will be solved only if you’ll have the unconscious help.

If you are not having the answer you are looking for, this is because this answer is obvious, and you can find it alone. The unconscious mind gives you information about crucial matters in dreams. This information is more important than your ridiculous question.

There are numerous possibilities. I’m only giving you a few examples.

You should have the humble attitude of someone who needs help, instead of demanding answers.

You are able to decide what to do about your business without the unconscious guidance. However, you need help in order to understand what is happening to your relationship.

Perhaps you have to act and do something very important, without wasting time. If you won’t act fast, you may lose the person you love.

If you always abandon your partner alone because you are always working, your partner will find someone else, who will have the time to give him/her the affection he needs.

Therefore, pay attention to the unconscious guidance. Stop thinking about your company and your financial issues. Your mental health and your happiness are in danger.

You must respect the rules of the dream language. Don’t invent the meaning of dreams based on your opinion. Look for the meaning of the dream symbols. Pay attention to the dream logic. Think.

Christina Sponias continued Carl Jung’s research into the human psyche, discovering the cure for all mental illnesses, and simplifying the scientific method of dream interpretation that teaches you how to accurately translate the meaning of your dreams, so that you can find health, wisdom and happiness.
