Ranking up.

Well this weekend is a Red Dead Redemption triple XP and a Gears of War 2 10x expierience. It was a hard goal of mine to really want to get to Rank 100 in Gears of War 2 before Gears of War 3 comes out because then I am able to get the gold gnasher shotgun that everyone wants. The goal will be really difficult to get since I am only at level 70 and I am trying to utilize all the expierience weekends they are throwing at us as much as I can. I still have a good 3 weeks of them to rank up. I could really have fun with the triple XP in Red Dead Redemption but I know I would regret not getting to rank 100 in Gears of War 2 because I really want the gold gnasher shotgun. I already regret not playing in the Gears of War 3 beta a lot to be able to get the gold retro lancer but that is gone now.

Continuing the series.

Last week we heard that Gears of war would be having an increasingly bigger expierience weekend on the way up to the Gears of War 3 release. Last week was a 5x expierience weekend with only tickers in the horde. This week it is 10x expierience with mixed weapons in horde. Horde mode is most likely the best way to rank up right now besides if you really want to actually boost in King of the hill or something. The main reason to getting to rank 100 in Gears of war 2 is the ability to get the Gnasher Shotgun in gold in Gears of War 3. If you don’t want to do ranking up with only 10x expierience you can wait another 3 weeks to get the 25x XP.

Good luck getting your rank 100 wings.

Looking at the world from different perspectives.

While deciding on three different indicators for my map I took many things into consideration. Instead of looking at life luxury’s such as how much land per person and how many cars each person owns I decided to focus on three topics which I believe are very important to ones life for their survival, health and safety. In order for humans to survive they need water, and the more developed a country is the more fresh water they will have access to. The amount of drinking water available to people reflects a lot on their quality of life and therefore is important while classifying countries into categories based on their development. I also believe that government corruption has a large impact on the quality of ones life and therefore plays a large role in citizen’s views of a developed, developing and undeveloped country. If the government is corrupt the citizens of the country are not living in a safe life style there fore the quality of life goes down. Another large factor in deciding a country’s ranking is their health, without a good health care they will not be able to live a healthy life and will be hurt from viruses, injuries and illnesses. Living in fear of these things does not allow one to live in a state which every human deserves.

When deciding on how to rank the indicators I had chosen; drinking water per thousand kilometres, Government Corruption and Physicians per 1000 people, I took numerous things into consideration. While ranking the drinking water available a country would have to have over a 70 otherwise they would not score a level one, level one being the best score, because with less drinking water available then that, a country will not be able to provide for their country’s people. If the country had between 50 and 69 it was an ideal amount, no it is not the best amount but the people of the country will be well supplied, any country in that ranged received a level two. If the country was between 30 and 49 they were a level three and if they were between ten and 29 they were a level four. Both of these countries had enough to provide a small amount of water to the people but still not a healthy amount, and anything below nine would be a level five because drinking water is something every human needs to live and its not something that can be created.

For government corruption it can not be expected for a country to have none because no matter how fair a government claims to be there will always be some corruption. The higher the ranking the lower the corruption was so I think anything between seven and ten is an acceptable level of corruption after accepting the fact that no matter what there will always be a corrupt government no matter where in the world someone is. I think that between 5.5 and 6.9 is a level two, four and 5.4 is a level 3 and both levels are tolerable levels of corruption. A country between 2.5 and 3.9 would be a level 4 and any corruption level between one and 2.4 would be a level one. That amount of corruption is not good, in a country like that there would be no democracy and no equality for the citizens.

Doctors are very important in everyone’s life, at some point or another everyone needs a doctor and without one they may die. Some countries have such a low ratio of doctors compared to the population people can not get the medication they need. A country with a great amount of doctors will have 4.9-6.1 doctors per thousand people, which would receive a level one in my opinion. A country with 3.6-4.8 doctors per thousand people would be a safe amount, not everyone will receive the best health care but it is easily accessible, giving it a level two ranking. Countries with rankings between 2.3 and 3.5 are not in great danger but the ratio should be a lot high then it is, giving it a level three ranking. The countries with dangerously low amounts of doctors are countries with only 1.3 to 2.2 doctors per thousand people giving it a level four rank, but the worse ratio is between zero and 1.2. At a rate that low thousands of people will not be able to get the medical attention they need which will result in many preventable deaths.

I think that my map truly represents how the world should be depicted on the map. It may not tell us how many people can read how long someone will live or how much they make but it shows quality of life. If someone is illiterate they may not be able to read and enjoy literature that is available in the world or get a high paying job but I believe my indicators are more important. I think that most people would agree that having drinking water is more important to them then reading a book. There is no point in showing how long someone will live because it is biased. The life expectancy is completely influenced on the health care that is provided and drinking water which is needed to survive. Another factor that does not matter much is GDP, while it is good information to be known I do not think that it affects the quality of their life. The way the government rules the country has a direct impact on the citizens of the country therefore I believe it is more important then the GDP.

A look at the best presidents in the U.S., chosen by the citizens of the time period.

While historians argue over who is a great president and who did not deserve the office, they may be missing an easy way to look objectively at each president. By looking at the amount of electoral votes a president received in his second term, it is easy to see how the United States population looked at him as a whole. The presidents who won by a landslide in their second term did so because the population at that time looked at them as a good leader, which seems much more important than how they look years later.

Thomas Jefferson- Jefferson tied with Aaron Burr in the election of 1800 with 73 electoral votes each. In 1804, Jefferson received 162 out of 176 electoral votes. Jefferson’s popularity could be attributed to many things, but doubling the size of the United States with the Louisiana Purchase is the most obvious.

James Monroe- James Monroe received 183 out of 218 electoral voted in the election of 1816, then he went on to receive 231 out of 234 electoral votes in the 1820 election. Monroe led the United States during the era of good feelings, and he competed against a dying federalist party for the presidency. This combination led to an overwhelming support for Monroe.

Abraham Lincoln- Lincoln received 180 out of 303 electoral votes in the 1960 election and 212 out of 233 electoral votes in the 1964 election. He most likely would have lost the 1960 election, had the 3 southerners he ran against not split the southern vote among each other. Leading the union during the civil war and the lack of a southern vote led to his great margin of victory in 1964.

Franklin D. Roosevelt- Roosevelt received over 75% of the electoral votes in all four of his elections, winning in 1936 with 523 out of 531 electoral votes. Leading the nation through the great depression and world war II made FDR almost impossible to remove from office.

Richard Nixon- Nixon received 301 out of 538 electoral votes in the 1968 election and 520 out of 537 electoral votes in the 1972 election. Nixon increased his popularity by leading the United States in the Vietnam war, dealing with more foreign relations than almost any previous president, and increasing benefits like social security and medicare.

Just a first hand experience of being ignored and treated like a nobody in a conference where one is supposed to be given an equal footing. Seniority in rank is a tradition, but a modicum of respect is something that goes beyond any custom.

On one occasion several years ago, I was sent to a National Command Conference in Manila by my District Commander. The meeting was held in one of the most prestigious professional clubs along Manila Bay thus, it was indeed a very enriching experience on my part as it was the first time I came elbow to elbow with the “big men” in the Auxiliary Service. Aside from that, it was the first time I was able to travel by myself in the Metropolis.

However, on top of it, it was also the first time I experienced the apparent ambivalence and discrimination accorded to a junior officer especially to a man from the province by the Flag Officers in the National organization. But of course, puerade los buenos. It happened when at one instance a prolonged argumentation ensued among the top ranking officers in the Executive Board regarding a certain issue. They were actually at a loss as to how to reconcile things concerning the regular forces’ mandate and the auxiliary group’s participation to a certain proceeding. Noting however that the Bicol Command which I was representing then had already in several occasions, actual experiences of the situation which the group apparently could not accept to be possible; I raised my hand to request recognition from the presiding officer. But lo, it took me three times, and it was only through the insinuation of a good flag rank participant that I was finally recognized. At each time, the presiding officer would intentionally skip looking at my direction and whenever caught, would deliberately say “Lets hear Commodore so and so first”, then would point to another person who was not even raising his hand.

I felt discriminated and insulted. They almost forgot that what they did to me, they also did to the District Command I was representing. Though I felt vindicated by the fact that my opinion, gave them the exact information they needed to resolve the issue, I felt the reality of how is it to be treated like a “nobody”. Maybe they thought, not a single sense would ever come from a “little boy” like me in a meeting of “big brothers” like them. Besides, it might be inconceivable for them to give proper recognition, though it was due, to a set of stripes alighting from a taxi, and joining a group of golden stars disembarking from luxury cars. Nevertheless, shame on them!

Many people in the 1790s were not afraid of having titles of nobility brought back. Instead they were afraid of how the government may bring back the ideas and concepts that go along with nobility such as the social class.

At first, nobody cared much about titles of nobility. But, there were those who feared that titles of nobility would bring back old ideas and concepts. Appleby had implied that titles could no longer grant someone with special privileges because they followed a republic. This kind of government had gotten rid of social classes because it did not grant everyone with equal rights. Appleby knew too well what titles could bring back to the America. She stated that “Republicans revealed how keenly aware that social usages and under girt the distribution of powers.” This means that they were aware of how social classes disrupt the distribution of powers because the higher classed members would be granted with more power. This could ultimately return the government into a monarchy.

The effectiveness of Feudalism.

Every great nation has to start with something to build off of. The middle ages needed something to keep everything in order. Kings and Queens were given all this land and power, but they couldn’t control it because it was so much. They needed to create something so that they can hand power over to other people without handing over the entire country. They developed an early form of government that they called Feudalism. Feudalism allowed Kings and Queens to hand over pieces of land to different Lords. Lords would be in charge of overseeing this part of land. They would hire Knights to defend the land when necessary and in return the Lords gave a piece of land to the knights. Finally, at the bottom of this system were the peasants who worked on the knight’s land and did farming and agricultural projects. Daniel McGarry once said, “In a time of great insecurity, it provided local defense and government, without entirely sacrificing unity.” Feudalism was definitely an affective form of government because it was organized, provided local defenses, and it taught us useful hints and tips on creating a productive government.

Kings and Queens controlled everything during the middles ages. It soon became to overwhelming for one person to handle so they created a form of government where the King or Queen can hand down power to other people to control certain parts of their country. Today power obtained through money and leadership. But, during the Middles Ages this wasn’t used. Land was considered power during that time. The system that they created was called Feudalism. A king or Queen would give power (land) to Lords. Lords would hire Knights to protect the land. In return they too would receive some land. Finally, Knights would hire peasants to do all the work around the land. They would use the land for farming. The fruits and vegetables would then go to the Lords. This system was very organized because it gave everyone a place in the system. The higher ranked people would be on the top with the most power. The lowest rank people would be on the bottom. These would be peasants would do hard labor such as working on the farm.

Land represented power, thus land was very precious during this time. Invaders would often try and attack and claim the land for their own purposes. This is the reason why Lords would hire knights. When land is endangered of being taken away knights would be called to take on the job of defending their land. Feudalism provided local defense to every one. This is very important because I am sure that peasants or other people living on the land would feel insecure if they were to be attacked without having a chance to defend them selves. In a way there is mutual respect throughout this system. The peasants would work for the knights and receive protection. The knights would defend the land in return for power. The Lords would be able to hold onto the land making the King or Queen happy.

We learned and solved our mistakes through past experiences. Feudalism was the foundation in making future governments better. We learned to avoid important things when making a successful government. Public services were horrendous in these villages. Confusion was also a big problem because no one knew what was going on. Finally, wars were common because everyone wanted land to gain more power. We gained knowledge from learning from these mistakes. Today we don’t need to encounter any of these problems because our government created a place to live where we can be clean and safe. Hopefully, if there are any problems now we can resolve them so that future generations don’t need to suffer.

Feudalism was an excellent way to start off a new government. With no past experiences they did a pretty good job. The helped provide local defense, taught us the basics for manners, it was organized and everyone got something good out of this. Feudalism was good because it was a very good start on building an excellent government. It gave us the basis and taught us things to avoid to making a successful and working government.
