In a discussion about the necessity of taking time to oneself to be alone, my friend Stephanie remarked that being alone enables one to get to know oneself. Although we can learn about ourselves through every breath, emotion, thought, word and deed, she in essence is correct. It is only when we stand apart from the world that we have the space and time to experience ourselves in a quiet soul intimacy that the roar of everyday life forbids as a possibility.
