My teacher asked us to rewrite the last chapter of the book we read called The Devil’s Highway. This was a book about the immigration situation in the United States around 2004 where a writer told the story of a group of men who traveled across the border. We read all about their stories, starting with their lives in Mexico and then some of their deaths. This is the rewrite of the ending.

Not so happily ever after, after all..

Life is so unexpected. We do not know what is ahead of us. Thus, even with adequate preparation, sometimes things do not go teh way we want it to. Upon reflection, you may find a particular decision you made earlier as being inappropriate. So what do you do?

Whenever I look at my mother-in-law, I am reminded of the hardship she went through in her life. Things started to get terribly wrong when her ex-husband dumped her for another woman. She was forced to raise her only son on her own, working hard to survive. But I noticed one thing; she has not let go of her past.

We oftentimes regret that we did not do what we were supposed to do, or keep putting off words and acts until it is too late and the moment and the time had passed. We are left with sad memories and regrets of what should have been.
