September 18, 2011: It should not be a surprise that most of us have become totally dependent on smart phones and we pick them up at all sorts of intimate times including when playing sports, eating out, talking to friends or looking after children. This thought provoking video highlights how much we use our phones. It is part of a campaign for us all to disconnect on October 2, 2011 by switching our phones (and electronic gadgets) off for a couple of hours. The campaign is called “Day to Disconnect”.

A Day to Disconnect is a worldwide movement, spearheaded by Rabbi Zechariah Wallerstein of Ohr Naava. On October 2 he hopes thousands of people will voluntarily unplug their gadgets “for some time: an hour, two or even all day.” The goal is accumulate a total of one million hours.

Ohr Naava is a Women’s Torah Center located in Brooklyn, New York. It was established in 2004 by Rabbi Zechariah Wallerstein.

The challenge: “Can you put your mobile down or are you totally hooked to it?”(Day to Disconnect)

Women who dress in red when you go out what do I know very well: the color attracts attention more than any other, and men are courteous and generous with them instantly.

Dating and relationships differ by voluminous amounts. It is indeed necessary to distinguish our line in order to think about necessitating closure.

Dating involves attraction, romance and a whole lot of stuff but no emotional commitment is needed in this regard. It is like a walk in the park with no dues to pay. With the spotlight accurately fixed on dating, the effect of a disintegration of both parties does not necessitate closure.

Relationship on the other hand is simply put as dating with all form of emotions being involved. With our emotions involved in this, it might be difficult to move on to the next stage of dating someone else. Emotions are the key in this issue. If one is able to shed the emotional baggage and move on then it is possible based on closure to date someone else.

The Key

There is a moment when you feel it is time to move on with life. There should be a moment when you know that you can date or have another relationship. This time we are talking about is base on a single principle.

“When you are comfortable with your ex being out of your life, then you can date another person but if the reverse is the case, then the best thing is to wait till you achieve that time”

 When it comes to dating, closure after a breakup isn’t a necessity but closure is if you want to build a successful relationship. If you want a lasting relationship with emotional balance and wellness then it is best to achieve closure in a previous relationship. Take back those emotions

            A few weeks ago, I met a man who is an executive of a financial institution that I visited for a loan to expand my business.  We spoke briefly until our conversation changed from formal to intimate and I gave him my number. An action that I grew to regret.    He was charming, conversational and intelligent, a definite alpha male with the attendant wealth and prospects. Most women would be flattered by the idea of a man asking her to have his baby the first time he sees her, but I knew that was boy talk for “I want to have sex with you”

        It appeared that Mr. X was scouting for a wife (or so I assumed), he probably thought I had money or money making potential or prospects.  He called me the first night, after I gave him my number.   We had a profound, desultory conversation.  I was not smitten but my interest was piqued until Mr. X called me one day to apprised me of my whereabouts, I thought it was very weird that he knew where I was today, who I was with that day and he had not called in weeks but I did not add anymore thought to it.  

      Then Mr. X asked for my living location and hinted that he wanted it so he could drop by whenever he felt like. Following my misgivings, I gave him a fake address that was too close to home. Mr. X came to my fake address to ask for me without calling me or informing me that he would show up. Additionally he questioned the civilians about me and where exactly I lived and my contiguous villagers’ were more than happy to divulge that information.  

        Next thing I know, Mr. X shows up at my address, unbidden and unannounced.  I was enraged. I could not contain my anger and the nerve of this man to think he could drop by my apartment when he felt like. We were not friends but mere acquaintances. He called me three times since we met approximately a month ago.  Why would I want him at my house uninvited? The gall of the man! 

   This is a lesson to women, be careful when you are giving out your numbers and addresses. If you are not sure, you want to maintain contact with this individual, graciously and firmly refuse to proffer your personal number.  

      I have a hard time telling men that I do not want to give them my number. It is partially due to my fear of their reactions since Jamaican men do not effectively or civilly deal with perceived rejection from the opposite sex.   Some men will blackmail you into giving them your number by playing on your emotions (if he says “you don’t want give me your umber because you don’t like me).   You do not want to give away your true feelings and you give him your number as an appeaser and a great way to get away as fast as you can from him.

      Second rule, do not give a man your address or an address close to your place of residence. Some men are psychotic, indecent and narcissistic to think they have the right to show up at your house uninvited. You have the right to protect your privacy and the responsibility to protect your life.  Be careful when you disclose personal information about your life, you may attract the wrong attention.

What will this money be able to do? It is not to be compared with the love and oneness in marriage, besides this small amount is not capably of providing the needs of the children. They need clothes, food, pay school fees. What if they become sick? Who pays the hospital bill? It could really be challenging.

Anytime couples think of divorce as a solution, the couple should know that they have opened a door to an unending problem. They will suffer. Even when they remarry the pain of divorce will continue to haunt them.

The innocent children will be in perpetual pain for a problem they knew nothing about.

Whenever it starts to ache and hurts in your marriage always seek for counselling.

Divorce is never a way out; seeking solution remains the best answer.
