Just what is life all about?

These questions have been passed down through the ages, from Ancient Greeks to modern day, there is no one single answer.

One could viably argue that we are here to procreate, nothing more and nothing less. Just like any other animal in nature, we are driven to create and foster new life.

For some, religion answers the question, sort of. Religion suggests that human are here to please their Gods, to face trials and tribulations that will prepare them for the promised land, the so called “life after death”.

Some cultures believe that we continue to live on Earth, in different forms, until we reach perfection, to move to that promised land. Reincarnation can be in any form, from a short lived insect to a long living tree.

People ponder the reasons of existence because they, collectively, fear Death. Most people are afraid of Death, the fear is so great that they need to believe that life, somehow, must go on. And because people do procreate, they build their lives around that procreation, they learn, work and evolve to foster the family around them. The family around them is loved, natural insticnt calls for protection, and again, fear of Death prompts the thoughts of existence.

The greatest thing about being a human is our ability to think, but it can also be one of our greatest enemies. As the greatest thing, thought brings us joy and love, emotions that we are able to express and share. As our greatest enemy, the ability to think can cause confusion and fear.

Hey, this could be all wrong, there could be more to life than just life, but one may never really know. Death is the only way to answer the question, but for me, procreation is worth living for.

Since Darwin, biologists have tried to understand the advantages of sexual reproduction. It is not trivial because there is a huge loss to sex.

Unlike sexual organisms, asexual organisms do not need a partner to reproduce, cloning could reproduce, and can produce twice as many female offspring.

If sex has nothing to gain and two individuals competing for resources, then asexual will take over in just a few generations.

For over 20 years, this puzzle has been investigated Curtis Lively of Indiana University and its students and colleagues. Lab tests find support for the hypothesis that sex is useful in parasite-rich environments.

Red Queen hypothesis suggests that parasites adapt the virus to infect a certain genes, and preventing asekual become too abundant.

Sex also produces genetically unique individuals who can avoid infection and thus escape from natural selection.

Based on that study, genetic changes in a population is required to maintain the status quo. Asexual beings can rise and fall in response to parasite adaptation, while sexual being able to avoid the ups and downs.

In the end, these dynamics over generations prevent asexual creatures take over and maintain the balance of asexual and sexual.

Scientists seem to have found the answer to a question that grinds them ever since Charles Darwin: that is the purpose of sex?

Researchers are trying for centuries to understand why most animals reproduce by sex. asexual reproduction in which clones its own genetic material bodies, seems more logical , scientists say, because that animal does not need to seek a partner to seduce him, does not have to contend with competitors to get a partner and not likely to contract a sexually transmitted disease. Now, scientists seem to have discovered why, despite the advantages of asexual reproduction, most beings use sex for reproduction.

In a study published in the latest issue of the journal Science shows that animals use sex to reproduce, thus combining the genomes of two people, because this helps to reject harmful parasites.

New research in support of evolutionary theory that claims that by combining the genomes of two animals are the offspring conceived with a genetic code again , allowing a better resistance to attack. Thus, animals continue to remain a step ahead of parasites that are constantly evolving, trying to infect. This theory is not new, but so far it has not been supported by evidence.

The study by researchers at Indiana University is the clearest evidence yet to support the theory.Scientists have genetically altered many copies of a cylindrical species of worms called Caenorhabditis elegans . Thus, researchers conceived specimens could reproduce only by sex and a few other examples that could only reproduce by cloning.

Then the researchers exposed worms to a deadly bacterium, studying the effect it has on them.Scientists have discovered that insects could reproduce through sex bacteria managed to survive for more than 20 generations, the when insects resorted to cloning for reproduction soon died.

“This bacterium has become more infectious as they lived with worms, and those who reproduce by cloning could not change their genetic material to become in turn more resistant to it, so they died “said Levi Morran, the researcher who led the team that conducted the study.

The Science behind French kissing... Need I say more?

A smack, smooching, laying one on someone, a peck, whatever you want to call it, the majority of us have kissed and been kissed by someone.

Hi everyone. I am Nacomy Blue, aspiring author and I will be your lecturer today. Wow, I can already hear the groans but I promise it will be fun.

So let’s start at the beginning. According to this guy up here, kissing evolved from mothers nursing their young by passing broken pieces of food mouth to mouth.

Yup, kinda like that. And while you might be thinking ewwwwww, come on you have to admit it’s touching and just a wee bit cute (or maybe it’s just me? It can’t be just me, can it?).

Moving on…

So this grew to be a sign of love and affection.

You like me must be wondering, where the hell was the shift from maternal gesture to sexual act?

The Science

Kissing raises levels of neurotransmitters called dopamine, which causes feelings of craving and desire and serotonin, which elevates your mood and creates that tiny spark for obsessive thoughts about the person you’re kissing (might explain why you became a stalker).

Also there is a jump in oxytocin, the ‘love hormone’ which is released during an orgasm triggering attachment between couple. Oxytocin is released in high levels in new mothers. This is thought to create the lifelong attachment between mother and child.

So if there are all these feel good hormones blasting through your system during a kiss, why are there bad kissers? The culprit, the nose. Yes, that pesky little (or big like mine) thing in the middle of your face.

It turns out we can subconsciously smell the DNA and reproductive capabilities of the one we suck lip with. Women have the ability to smell when the group of genes that manage the immune system called the Major Hist-compatibility Complex (MHC) are well matched with her own. So does this mean that only men are bad kissers? Duhhh…. (just kidding guys… maybe)

Even more interesting men and women kiss for different reason (gosh, it seems I feel like stating the obvious today).

Men are more likely to initiate the tongue wars, at least in the beginning of a relationship. Men prefer wetter kisses approximately 30% more than women with more tongue more than 10 % more than women. The guys have an ulterior motive though. During a kiss, testosterone in male saliva is transferred to the woman mouth making her more receptive and increases her libido. Sneaky, sneaky…

Women, on the other hand place more significance on a kiss, are more likely to insist on kissing before and after sex and use the act to evaluate the state of the relationship.

So the long and short of it, men kiss to get laid, to spread their wild oats, get some pow chicky pow pow, etc, etc, while woman kiss to get a feel of a potential mate; they go in thinking, is he the one?

From an evolutionary stand point, woman use kissing to “screen” men for healthy reproductive status and long haul potential. Men want the gene pool to grow.

The factors that affect the decision in kiss are also different for men and women.

Women look at teeth, lips, mouth, breath and taste. Men look at body shape and size, weight and the moaning noises a woman makes during the act is also a factor. Statistics show that men are more likely to have sex with a woman they consider a bad kisser. About 53% more men are more likely to skip kissing all together and get right down to business. Less than 20% refer to skip kissing.

Extra Tidbits

- Kissing helps women relax and eases stress.

- On average, a person spends 20,164 minutes of their life kissing. That’s 2 weeks.

- 278 types of bacterial can be exchanged during a kiss, billions of each kind (95% of them are not dangerous).

- The scientific name for kissing is osculating.

- The term French kiss originated in 1923 in the US as a slur to the French culture, who were that to be oversexed.

- Kissing uses 29 facial muscles.

- 66% of people close their eyes while kissing.

- Small pecks on the cheek burn 2-3 calories while French kissing burns at least 5 calories.

- The lips are 100x more sensitive that fingers.

- Statistic show that men who kiss their wives before going to work live 5 years longer that men who don’t, who are more likely to die in a vehicular accident. The moral of this story, kiss your wife or you die…

- Kissing passionately for 90 sec will raise blood pressure and cause the pulse to race and increase the level of hormone in the blood therefore decreasing your life expectancy by 1 minute. but its totally worth it, right?

- The French call “wet” kisses “juncture of souls” or soul kiss.

- Kissing produces substances 200x more powerful that morphine in terms of narcotic effect in the bodies of those kissing. It accounts for the euphoria feeling.

Many people enjoy making out that they can take sex or leave it, but in reality that is far from true. Moving between sex partners with gay abandon may actually not be natural at all.

Many people enjoy making out that they can take sex or leave it, but in reality that is far from true. All the same, no doubt to the utter disbelief of many males, moving between sex partners with Gay abandon may actually not be a natural state at all. The hormones vasopressin and oxytocin, released into the brains of participants during sex affect the human brain, though not as yet in ways that science understands..

Prairie voles are creatures which only ever have one sexual partner in life. Why? Simply because these remarkable animals have smell-based specific, mental maps of partners, so strongly imprinted that they never seek another.

It now seems that both vasopressin and oxytocin could be related to love in humans, after primate studies showed that single partner apes have, in the brain reward centres, more vasopressin, tan those with many sexual partners in their lives.

University College, London research pair Andreas Bartels and Semir Zeki located brain areas that, in humans are activated by romantic love. Their brain activity study found that, compared with brain activity involved in plain friendship. small area only is active in love, the one responsible for gut feelings, and in generating narcotic euphoria.

People supposedly deeply in love have different brains those of people feeling simply emotional, much more akin to those high on drugs, meaning that the same neural networks are in use during these very different activities, making it quite literally possible for humans to become addicted to love, when experiencing it fully.

The vasopressin-receptor gene shows a lot of variation in different humans, and future scientists could conceivably be able to predict the future fidelity, or likely lack of it in people by genotyping. Knowing as we now do, that tinkering with genetic inheritance, done with startling on prairie voles, strengthening partner attachments in these animals.

Recent research that involved scanning lover’s brains to help understand just what human love truly entails. Rutgers University scientist Helen Fisher believes love to be a three-tier process, lust, romantic love and long-term attachment, each tier with a completely unique chemical signal attached to it.

Montreal Concordia University Psychologist Jim Pfaus tells that the moments immediate following lustful sex, mimics in human brains, that induced by opiates intake. The chemical changes include higher levels of hormones serotonin, oxytocin, vasopressin and endogenous opioids – the body’s natural equivalent of heroin - all of which help relax the body and encourage bonding and pleasure.

Obsessive or romantic love induces people to home in on particular sexual partners, a state characterised by exhilaration, possibly even sharing neuro-chemical characteristics with manic depression. In truth, romantic love is undoubtedly one of the strongest human drives, more powerful than hunger, and all but impossible to satisfy, though it can become a long-term attachment.

This form of love encourages co-operation in raising children, calmness, secure feelings, and emotional union, even though all that nature intended for humanity was simple reproduction, love never taken into consideration. Love though, is about much more than simple genetics.

Humans learn constantly, from both sexual and social experience, that whilst arousal may come naturally, long-term mating success depends upon this social education, a reason perhaps why some people tend to date similar kinds of partner many times over in search of the right partner for life.

Humans may, some think, actually develop a kind of mental love map with maturity, a kind of blueprint of sorts, containing all the things they find attractive in others. This mental inner scorecard appears to be something people unconsciously employ to rate suitability, so the idea of humans having a hard wired genetic soul mate is actually a highly unlikely one.

In reality, love may be nothing more than a chemical state, genetic roots and environmental influences controlling it, a scenario that should, in theory anyway, make it possible to create more loving people, genetic roots in future answering questions about partner fidelity. Who gets a kick out of who and why is nothing more than a natural, special kind of chemistry, which of course, at heart we all knew already.

Humanity is top of the tree but why are we so obsessed with sex? Reproduction, after all is what nature intended sex for and in the rest of the animal kingdom that is the only reason to do it. Sex for fun? Don’t be ridiculous.

Think about it. Not that most men spend much of their time thinking about anything else, and women have sex on their minds more often than they’d own up to, but why? In terms of nature and evolution, we’re just lucky enough to be at the top of the tree but is that any reason for us to be so obsessed with sexual activity? Reproduction, after all is what nature intended sex for and in the rest of the animal kingdom that is the only reason to do it. Sex for fun? Don’t be ridiculous.

For most animals, the time of female ovulation is made blatantly obvious to the males and both sexes rush to take advantage of it but only because they want to have babies. Sex for the sake of it is almost unknown, but then human females are unique in having a menstrual cycle that is to all intents and purposes a hidden one. Don’t think, either that sex is only fun for human animals. Marsupial mice need 12 hours to have sex, so humans aren’t that high on the sexual stamina list.

You know that a lot of physical effort goes into sex – maybe that’s what like best about it – but in survival terms it’s a pretty stupid thing to spend too much time on. The reasons are pretty simple. It takes a lot of energy to produce sperm, and could even shorten your life. Experiments on worms showed that those genetically engineered to produce less sperm lived longer. The time and energy given to having sex could be put to better use hunting for food.

Couples engaged in sex are so pre-occupied that they become easy targets for predators, and older males can quite easily suffer heart failure because sex is just too strenuous for them. Fighting over females can result in serious injury to both sexes, and sex outside of the mated partnership is very risky indeed, even for species other than we humans. In many ways, we’d be healthier having more intense sex less often, so why don’t we?

It might just go back to the Stone age, when people lived in caves and natural predators were a huge threat to life, especially young life. If a human male had fertilized a female and immediately gone in search of another to impregnate, then both mother and child cold be in mortal danger. She had to keep him nearby and the obvious way to do it was to make herself sexually available all of the time. That’s how sexual bonds might originally have come into being.

Another telling factor must have been the hidden nature of her ovulations, because the male could never be certain on which days sex was most likely to result in offspring. That would mean, since the male wanted to see his genes go on into the future that he would be even more protective of children born to him. Unlike many other animal species in which a male will kill the offspring of others for the purposes of guaranteeing his own genetic progress, the human male would know that these offspring could only be his.

It isn’t actually completely clear when, in evolutionary terms, humans made the transition from open signals of female ovulation to concealed ones, though it was certainly within the last nine million years. Our nearest relatives – the Chimpanzees and Gorillas – never did and humanity is totally unique in this respect. There are species of ape who also seem to indulge in sex for fun – one chimpanzee type do it on average every nine minutes – but there is no pair bonding involved.

Other animals also find safety in numbers and form large groups, but this has more to do with being able to more easily absorb predatory losses than to a sense of community. The human brain is what pushed man beyond the boundaries faced by other animals, but it also created an unnatural tendency toward monogamy which isn’t naturally good for the further development of humanity as an animal species because it limits the spreading of the gene pool.

That said, though, no species on earth comes close to being as successful as humanity, though rodents do better at breeding and insects outnumber us by at least a million to one. It seems that the pair bonding gives the species a real strength in depth as such pairs began to come together to form bigger tribes and eventually races. Those peculiar sexual preferences in the past may well have helped to forge the eventual society that we live in today.

It’s a fact that very few other species on the planet form relationships as long lasting or monogamous as our own, and perhaps the fact of this bonding is what gave rise to the interdependence between the sexes that we came to regard as love. We become fiercely protective of our mate and jealousy guard them from approaches from the opposite sex because we feel that their sexual favours should belong exclusively to us.

It is by no means easy to equate human sexuality to that of other members of the animal world but we shouldn’t forget our roots. There was a time in ancient history when long lost ancestors would only get sex at ovulation times, having to share a harem of sexually receptive partners with anyone else who was around at the time. While some human males might think that this sounds like heaven, in reality it would be anything but and you’d always be in danger of being killed off by a jealous rival.

How much more perfect can it be, in sexual terms, than to have a partner who is happy to enjoy it even at non fertile times and wants to stick around for the long term, offering it only to you? For that privilege you need to thank those ancient ancestors for learning to appreciate the error of their ways. We all know that birds and bees do it, but the difference is that they do it purely for survival.

For we humans, sex is rarely just the expression of answering a basic animal instinct. Almost always, sex only happens when two people feel drawn to one another by primeval preferences they can’t even understand. When the chemistry is right, in genetic terms, then sexual bonding is inevitable and almost certainly long lasting. We enjoy sex as a physical expression of our mutual attraction and it draws us even closer together.

Animals we may still be, deep down at the very core of our existence but there is a vast gulf between us and the rest of the animal world when it comes down to sexual habits. Animal sex is just a means to ensure that the species will be carried forward. Human sex is so much more, for which we really ought to be eternally grateful.

Crack of Ruth and try someone new

Sure, you’ve gone with 20, 30 women. But we’re willing to bet that you’re actually dating the same woman over and over again. Often return to similar patterns of known personalities and relationships.

Do not just go out with the same type of woman gets boring, but not allow it to evolve. But with our list of classic female figures as a guide, will help us find out what attracts you, why you may be stuck in that pattern and what you could be losing – both romantically and sexually – not to mix your list of reproduction.

Sophisticated Urban

Its strengths: This woman is funny, warm and spontaneous. When you walk into a room with her, look at all the world envy. This is the kind of girl everyone wants to and makes you feel great when you are the one’s you have.

Weaknesses: You need enormous confidence to date a woman like this. She gets off on attention, but can not be jealous. If you are self-dig of his ambition, but make sure that you want – and not just the ego boost they provide.

His character bedroom: It is uninhibited and very well maintained. Tell him that you like on top, preferably wearing something expensive that makes your breasts look hot.

The Arty Hipster:

Her strengths: She knows all the dive bars are, and all the free wine art shows. It’s exciting and elegant, but not as untouchable as the urban sophisticated. She really likes nerds and intellectuals. And she really cares about culture. This kind of woman can be great for a guy who wants to learn more about art and music.

Weaknesses: Do you keep going after her, and calmly awaiting you delete it? If your interests do not coincide, do not expect just along the coast of your choice. Girls like this have opinions. And they want you to know the difference between Emma Thompson and Hunter S Thompson. You better read.

His character bedroom: The good news: it is dirty. The bad news: the bed is not so clean. Tell her that if she changes the sheets before you come, I’ll take to see Manu Chao – in Spain.

The Vegan Yoga Gal:

Her strengths: She has great skin and a long neck, and she gives back massages with oils crazy long. All that deep breathing means that rarely loses his temper, and the value of this perhaps even more than its incredible value, the back are very high – which is saying a lot. This is a woman who really wants to make a deep connection with life, and a man who wants the same thing could be really interested in it. Guys independent, analytical and creative could find her alternative view fascinating.

Weaknesses: These women are almost exclusively interested in men who are in the same things they are. Her love, the love of his life.

His fourth character: She’s like Kama Sutra-esque as you expected – so no quickies. She likes it slow and soulful.

The alpha female:

Her strengths: She has no debt, a law degree and a sports car. It’s hard to keep up with. Ironically, it is the alpha dog you should try to date her. A scientist, artist or teacher will do well with this woman. If you are not interested in power plays, he will not fight you.

Weaknesses: It has much in common with alpha males, but these relationships are very intense. They can not make time to be together. ‘Push’ types are drawn to these women, and some alpha females are attracted back. Obviously, if this is the dynamic, not good.

His character bedroom: She is efficient and qualified, but may be more than enough animal if you help her guard down.

The intimacy junkie:

Her strengths: She goes to yoga, too, but it is the most simple type of “connection” with the car smoking a body sculpting. What if a little in the face. The sex is incredible. She is the best kisser in the world. Very intense, very connection. Independent men that love a girl very verbal. Most men need help learning to communicate. She will teach you how.

Weaknesses: The intimacy junkie makes you feel great at first. She looks like this: you and your feelings. Men are easily analysis caught in her web. It will be great at it at first, but it will not be a lot of talk about the “meaning” of the relationship, which can make it explode.

His character bedroom: She will do anything, including some of the things that scare you. “Tapping” the word comes to mind. Tell him you do if you waxed.

The happy housewife

Her strengths: She is not gold – all he wants is a Volvo truck and a nice house, nice three bedrooms. She wants to have their children, care for them and care for you. A man who grew up in a very traditional family for their love. So, ironically, the guy who grew up with the infighting, because she provides the care you never had.

Her weaknesses: Remember that it will not work. Mind your career, men might be happy with an agreement that allows them to focus on your work while she handles her domestic life. But if financial stress is based, may not be able to convince her to get a job.

His character bedroom: Be vigilant and anxious in Articles firstScience less with each child. Finding a good babysitter for two can steal.

The future is here.

In 2006 a ’small’ movie called Idiocracy was released and has become a cult classic. The plot is simple. Two totally average people participated in a hibernation experiment that was forgotten and awake five hundred years in the future.

The world is inhabited by idiots so they are the most brilliant on the planet.

Living in a local neighbourhood we actually have more than one village idiot. They are highly prolific. The few decent people either have one or two children or none.

In ancient days the children of Village Idiots would die. Today, even with our crappy so-called health care many survive to reproduce. Sure, some still die of measles, but not enough of them. Many are shot but this usually occurs after they’ve cloned.

Hence the double digit I.Q. who can’t keep his pants on, and the mindless slut who can’t keep her knees together may produce ten or so idiots in their lifetime, while the normal person will consider the quality of life for a child and decline to continue popping out children beyond their ability to support them.

Due to all the idiots, normal people have become a minority and intelligent people migrate.

The reason China has made such advances is that Village Idiots do not have any advantage over intelligent people. Everuone has one kid. The intelligent kid goes far in life, the stupid kid doesn’t. With a imbalnce of th sexes, it is pretty likely there isn’t a female, no matter how stupid, to deal with him as average men are snapping up half wits and producing three quarter wits.

It is an amusing movie which you should see.

What is masturbation, where did it come from, is it harmful and should children be kept from it?

Masturbation is sexual stimulation designed to produce an orgasm through any means except sexual intercourse. The term comes from the Latin word masturbari which means to pollute ones self. It is also known by such imposing terms as manustrupation, onanism, and self-pollution.

A lot of people always have felt guilty about masturbation and these ominous words haven’t made them feel any better. Especially onanism.

Where does the word, masturbation, come from?

The Bible.

In Genesis 38:8, Judah tells his son, Onan, to marry and have sexual intercourse with his brother’s wife. Onan is reluctant.

“And Judah said unto Onan, Go unto thy brother’s wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother. And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. And the thing which he did displeased the Lord: wherefore he slew him also.”

For hundreds of years this passage was used by clergymen and parents to scare the daylights out of little children who masturbated. Their translation was, “If you masturbate, God will come and kill you.” Careful reading of the passage makes it appear more likely that Onan was engaging in a rather primitive form of birth control. His execution seems to have resulted from his refusal to fertilize his sister-in-law rather than “spilling his seed.”

Is Masturbation Harmful?

The only thing harmful about masturbation is the guilt that is drummed into children who admit masturbating, by parents who may themselves masturbate but don’t admit it. Every human being, at one time or another, in one way or another, has masturbated. Most of them have felt overwhelmingly guilty because of it. Most of them have continued masturbating.

Some of the terrible things masturbation is supposed to cause are pimples on the face, loss of manhood, pollution, and weakness. Of these afflictions only pimples are a recognized disease. All children at the time of puberty develop pimples. Virtually all children are actively masturbating at that time. It would then be more accurate to conclude that pimples cause masturbation.

No minister, moralist, teacher, or scientific researcher has ever shown any evidence that masturbation is harmful in any way.

The conclusion and discussion for a study of human demography.

Our hypotheses that there are differences in survivorship between individuals that lived in the 19th century and those that lived in the 20th century and that females would have a greater survivorship than males were both supported by our data. The data from Figure 1 supports our hypotheses because the survivorship curve for the 20th century is above the curve for the 19th century. This means that in the 19th century, the survivorship of individuals began to taper off at a younger age than in the 20th century. The same is seen for the sexes; the survivorship curve for males begins to taper off before the females meaning that the females generally out-survive the males.

For future experiments, we could collect more data from the graveyard. This is because more data will correlate to a more accurate representation of the population as a whole.

The net reproductive rate (R0) was greater for the 19th century than the 20th century. This may be because in the 19th century infant mortality was higher and a couple would give birth to more children to increase the likelihood that some would survive. The generation time (G) was greater in the 20th century. This may be because, with the improvements of health care, the average age of parents increased because it became safer medically to give birth at an older age than it was in the 19th century. The estimated intrinsic rate of increase (rest) was greater in the 19th century; this may be because much of the area was farmland and couples needed to give birth to more offspring to help on the farms. The larger amount of offspring per couple could mean a larger intrinsic rate of increase in the 19th century than the 20th century.

For males and females, the net reproductive rate, generation time and estimated intrinsic rate of increase are relatively the same. This is because humans require a male and a female to produce offspring; therefore, if a female has an offspring then so does a male.

I chose the particular bx values because 19th century couples gave birth to more offspring at a younger age. Couples gave birth to more offspring because the infant mortality rate was higher and more offspring would lead to a greater chance that some would survive. Couple also had offspring at a younger age because as they got older, it became less safe to give birth. For the 20th century I chose the particular bx values because with medical advances, couples were able to have children at older ages and with lower infant mortality, couples did not need to give birth to as many offspring to ensure that some would survive. If I raised my bx values, the net reproductive rate and intrinsic rate of increase would increase and the generation time would decrease. If I decreased my bx values, the net reproductive rate and intrinsic rate of increase would decrease and the generation time would increase.
