Confused about what to do in college? How to figure out the right degree or the right combination of degrees to take in college? This article might help start the thinking process.

As we graduate from high-school, we are preparing ourselves to meet the challenges of the world. Some of us are ambitious to go into science and technology, while others have ambitions of running their own business. So, how do we determine which is the right degree for us?

Our brain is made up of two sides: Right Brain and Left Brain. The Right side is random, intuitive, holistic, synthesizing and subjective. The Left side is logical, sequential, rational, analytical and objective. Both sides of the brain are important to us. Using both sides of the brain yields optimum output as we are making informed decisions and observations of the world around us.

Therefore, the right university degree/s should involve both sides of the brain. For example, if you are taking Bachelor of Business Administration, then take a minor in Mathematics or Statistics; or take a master’s degree in Statistics. Similarly, if you are doing Bachelor of Engineering, take minors in Management or Communication. You get the picture. The reason for this amalgamation of different subjects is because the curriculum within these disciplines requires the application of both sides of the brain.

Now the argument could be that each degree on its own includes a certain level of logical and intuitive cognitive processing. Thus, another smaller degree in another discipline is not required. However, the cognitive balance provided by one degree is tipped in favor of one side of the brain; soft sciences towards the Right side and Science degrees to the Left side. While this may be convenient, it may pose challenges in the future. For example, as important it is to make logical derivations of a problem, right communication strategies could help in effective and efficient delivery of an idea or theory. The core idea is to make use of both sides of the brain when looking at things and obtaining a degree/s that does this is a crucial characteristic of the right university degree.

Another argument could be that courses under the soft sciences can be learned by practice. Why should I go to the university and take Communication or Management, for instance, as part of my major? True story. It could absolutely be learned by handling tricky situations and socializing. But a degree from a university speeds up this process and helps you to socialize effectively and reduces the amount of bad eggs you encounter.

I hope this alleviates the problem a little. Sure, the ultimate combination of degrees depends entirely on your interests and passion. But, it is ideal and beneficial if you chose a combination that made you think logically and intuitively. You will be an asset to any institution you decide to work for. Good luck in your endeavors.

When you need to ask for an apology.

Asking for an apology in the right way is not just going to make the person you’ve been hurting feeling much better, but also can make you feel better too.

Do it yourself

Perhaps you’re considering to ask for an apology through text messages, emails, by phone, or by asking others to do it, but what if the message you want to deliver is being misunderstood? I know it isn’t easy, but you need to do it by your self.

It doesn’t have to be too formal

You can always ask for an apology in a casual and simple way.

Admit your mistakes

Asking for apology supposed to be started by admitting the mistakes you’ve made. Asking others to apologize you without showing your regret about the mistake you’ve made is equal to opening up another chance for another war.

To the point

Say that you regret whatever mistakes you’ve made and you feel so sorry for that. Showing your intention to make it up is a great point, but don’t forget to make it true.

Don’t blame others for your mistake

Sounds like moving the battle field to another area. Would this make the war end? Nope. It would just raising the risk of creating a wider battle field.

Sincerely

As a friend told me, “Don’t just say, ‘I mean it’.” The person that you’re dealing with can feel whether you’re asking it sincerely or you’re just pretending to ask an apology. So, don’t fake it.

Listen

Perhaps that person you’re dealing with need to channel his/her emotion. All you need to do is listen, pay attention, and again, sincerely do so.

Tips on dealing with criticism.

Admit it. No one is immune to criticism, although people seems to love criticizing others very much. But, realizing if no one can be perfect all the time might make us feel better.

Cool down. Getting too emotional means you are opening another chance for them to criticize you. Everybody has got the right to share their opinion, even though their opinions might upset you.

Open your mind. You might think what they have said is wrong, but they think the otherwise around. People have different angle in viewing so many thing in life. Try to understand their point of view before giving any appropriate respond.

Never take it too personal. Taking things too personal is equal to torturing yourself. So, let it go and see how things flow.

Asking why and how. Ask for more information on the thing being criticized. Use the information to do some reality check or finding new solutions.

Be quiet. Replying criticism with another criticism might spark unnecessary debate. So, be quiet when there were no better things to say.

Second opinion might be needed. Ask for a fair opinion from others. That way you can be sure whether the criticism is right or wrong.

Get used to it. Life is a long journey and you’ll never know when you’ve got to deal with another criticism. So, once you’ve managed to deal with a criticism in a calm and positive way, just keep it that way.

Any man who has not realized God, his voluntary death due to fear of physical pains or troubles is not only suicide but also a great sin.

Astonished to see the title! If you are hearing or seeing this topic for the first time, it is natural to be surprised because most people

are unaware of this topic. I also felt a little awkward when, for the first time, I read an article in which it had been demanded that voluntary death should be accepted as a constitutional right. Though, in western countries this demand has been in calling for much earlier. Many books have been written and published there on this subject. It was said that in modern age of science a pill or technique should be researched which can make a person’s death comfortable and painless who wants to die at his will. The reasons in their support they give are that if a person suffering from incurable diseases like cancer or in disability he depends wholly on others, it is better to die rather than suffer a lot of pains and uncomforts. For this he needs a legal right to die at his will. Though a legal right could not be achieved, it established in different countries such institutions, hospitals and organizations that provide medicines and advices for those who want to accept voluntary death.

Let’s see antiquity of involuntary death. There are ample proofs of the prevalence of involuntary death in Indian mythology and ancient scriptures. For instance, body abandoned by sage Sutikshan Muni in the period of Ramayana. It is said in Ramcharitmanas- Ehi bidhi sar rachi muni Sarbhanga|Baithe hriday chhadi sab sanga|| And in the era of Mahabharat, the story of Bhisma’s death is not hidden to anyone. On considering deeply, we come toknow that both of of them had attained sddhi and and their fame spread out far and wide as great men in their life time. Such a person, who has gave up everything for his country and society, his voluntary death has never been termed as suicide; and to call it so is improper and condemnable. In this way we find that Hindu Scriptures accept right to voluntary death. Here it is to be noted that it was never announced from any

Some fun things to do in the office.

It’s 4pm in the afternoon, you’ve done most of your work for the day, replied to all the urgent emails and ensured that everyone else got what they needed when they needed it. Now what are you going to do with yourself for an hour until you can leave the office and go for that pint at the pub down the road?

Well here are a few fun things that I suggest you do during this time to keep you busy and look as though you are working at the same time!

1. Get some post it notes and a pencil. Now doodle! Post its are small and easy to recycle (don’t throw them in the bin as this doesn’t help the environment and someone may find it.) If you have a locked recyclable box / bin for important documents put it in there when you are finished.

1.a. Or you can take your drawings home with you and watch the post it note doodles pile up on your wall! You can make your own little animation drawing and then scan and put them onto you tube! Wouldn’t that be great?! You find that you have no time to do anything at home but these 5 or 10 minute drawings could be a great hit on youtube or as part of your daily blogs online! You can make your own little stories everyday for little characters and it won’t take long unless you are a perfectionist, but you can take your drawing home and perfect it all you want!

2. When writing something down try and use your other hand, for example if you are right handed try using your left hand. If you are left handed try using your right hand to write with! This is a great way to exercise your brain, you can really feel your brain struggling and if it starts to hurt stop! A little bit of this each day and you’ll be ambi dexterous after maybe a year! If you can’t do it everyday this may take longer than a year! Your notes will look childish at first and your brain will hurt with the effort but after a while this will help your brain as it is making new connections between the left and right hemispheres. This will helping you to learn and process new things in future!

3. Try a simple easy Sudoku game. I always take a Metro newspaper from the underground tube stations and when at work, if I have a few minutes I try my hand at the easy challenge game they provide. It may take a while at first but if you set yourself a target of filling in say 5 numbers within 5 minutes than you know when to stop. This could then increase as you get used to more and more Sudoku games. You can then try and fill in 10 numbers within 5 minutes! If you can’t do it then change your target!

Image via Wikipedia

4. Take a walk around the building. I know this sounds silly but at 4pm you would’ve been sitting down for at least 7 hours. I know you think that walking to the shops at lunch time was good but how long did you spend sitting down and eating lunch while talking with your work colleagues? If you have stairs then go and walk up and down them for a few minutes. This will get your blood pumping and you can test how fit you really are! Most people think they are fit, but after walking up two flights of stairs you already feel puffed out and need to take a rest. Doing this for a couple of minutes everyday can help your blood circulation and give you some exercise you don’t think you need! Also you can just tell your boss you were in the toilet during this time if they needed to know where you were, or that you went to see someone on another floor for a few minutes.

So these are my fun things to do while in the office. Have a go at a few and let me know what you think. They may sound boring when written here but if you try them then let me know your honest opinions!

With all the debate over SOPA and PIPA, we should take time to consider some historical and cultural tendencies of copyright laws. Copyrights and protection of intellectual property is only a new phenomenon and is hardly a natural right to be granted by the state. history and development have been historically related to more stealing than sharing.

“The only difference between a merchant ship and a pirate ship is that the former has cargo in its hull”

A high school teacher tends to use the above statement to describe economies during the middle age to illustrate the fact that for the most part, laws on the high seas have traditionally been very loose. Did these make the pirates horrible people? According to the statement the answer is no, rather, it was how business was conducted; a ship that couldn’t protect itself till getting to a harbor just wasn’t going to be able to sell its goods because someone else would take it for them. This has existed since the times of Ancient Rome and Greece. Historically, theft has always been an undercurrent to development and prosperity. So why has it become such an issue today?

America prides itself on being capitalistic where the best companies beat other companies to expand. Alongside this has developed a new phenomenon called “intellectual rights.” Intellectual rights are an idea that states that if a company or individual creates something, they are entitled a certain amount of money and rights based on the product. In short, we call it copyrights. On its positive side, it has allowed authors who don’t want their books to be made into movies to deny production companies the right to do so, and has worked to promote artists and has allowed them to produce works without compensation. However, since being with little historical precedent, it consequently has a dark side. Today, intellectual rights have extended to mean that anything which directly copies a patented product is by all rights illegal and may extend across international boundaries.

If copyright laws protect the creators from theft, why wouldn’t it be considered to be a good thing? What problem can there be in preventing theft? Simply put, because countries have never historically operated under such a presumption. The United States pharmaceutical companies have sued African countries for violation of copyright laws on AIDs medication. Many African countries have claimed that they cannot afford American drugs even with a discounted price. Naturally, it was in the best interest of these states to take the drug, study it, and make their own brand so that it could be more cheaply distributed to the people. Still, despite motivation, the west has viewed the action of making cheaper medicines as a highly disreputable action. Part of the problem of developing nations is their inability to claim technology as their own. Medicine is only one instance, but copyrights being forced upon by the highly industrialized western countries and has made developing countries implicitly dependent on foreign countries for production. Fortunately, WIPO, a UN organization, has been recently been attempting to find methods to better work with copyright laws that quickens the right of copyright.

In War, stealing another person’s idea and using it for the country’s best interest is called “good intelligence.” In centuries past, stealing another country’s idea for building factories, water usage, political ideas and even nuclear power have been means of development. The United States would have probably taken an additional 10-50 years to develop into an industrial society had it not been for various individuals stealing England’s method of production and bringing it to the states. The Pre-Civil War south is proof enough of what would have happened as the south never bothered to independently develop and just bought finished goods from industrialized England. Therefore, in considering internet copyrights, it might be best to consider some historical and contemporary patterns involved with stealing property and ideas. It’s a common human concept that ideas will spread as much as possible if not inhibited. Surely, in a global world where everyone wishes that the world will become a better place, people should not disapprove of another country being able to help itself out?

So back to the pirate and merchant ships. Perhaps the west is just tired of Pirates. After all, it’s much better to sell goods at port than to have to fight off unwanted groups. Further, the United States sells tremendous amounts of goods and boasts about having patenting the most ideas and invention of new goods than any other country. It is in the best interest of the United States to keep out the rest of the competition so that it may sell more goods at port. Remember, merchant ships back in the day were usually heavily armed and in various cases were guarded by fleets of ships to protect its cargo, thus, for an industrialized society that makes large amounts of money via exports and selling of goods and ideas for money, protecting its income is of vital importance.

This is only a fun theory to think about and not to take arms on. History shows that copyrights are more artificial than natural when it comes to the spreading of ideas. Isn’t this how people become better writers? Many writers take inspiration, or in better terms, copy the style of the writer. Technically, this may be viewed as stealing a style from a proper owner, but to crack down on writing style would be ridiculous. Similarly, athletes can steal styles or learning methods that another athlete used to get in top condition. People in most areas of life are actually copying something they learned from someone else. Thus, it is more common in the world of ideas and goods for people to copy, steal, and try to make more from what they’ve stolen from than to independently think of something new without basing it off someone else’s work. The tendency for people to steal in search for gain should be considered in future policies by the UN and individual states if their goal is for the betterment of all mankind and of culture.

Is there such a thing as a necessary evil? In a world of greyness, no clear definition between white and black, good and evil, can evil be good? Are compromises really necessary?

Perhaps you may call me an idealist; perhaps you will call me an over-righteous zealot, but perhaps a handful of readers might read what I have written and understand.
Is evil evil? Is good good? Is right right? And, well, is left left? Today there is a culture of grayness, a culture devoid of white, devoid of black. There is no right, and there is no wrong, or at least the two can be interchanged to mean nothing, which is the same to me. Today you hear people say, “It was/is a necessary evil.” A necessary evil you say? No, not necessary… just easier.
What am I talking about you may ask? Allow a simple example of this idea to be created. In the most basic and innocent form I can imagine, you could call it a “white lie,” i.e. a lie that is told with good intentions. For the sake of example, let’s say a gentleman has a girlfriend who is asking him whether or not a friend of hers has been making advances, and he answers no, knowing full well that the young lady in question has been making advances. In this case, many would say that this lie was a necessary evil, both because it avoids confrontation between the lady in question and his girlfriend, and it avoids further questioning, but this simply is not true. The gentleman’s girlfriend will eventually notice that the lady in question actually is making advances, and will then confront her about it. Once done with the rival, the gentleman’s girlfriend will then return to the gentleman and ask him why he did not expose the young lady in the first place. Then gentleman then has few choices, he can: 1) lie and say that the lady in question had not been making advances at that time, which will lose him credibility, or he can 2) tell the truth and say he was hoping to avoid all confrontations and questions that might follow later, which will cause him to compromise the value of his word and may make him look like a willing participant in the matter. As the reader can see, neither of these are very beneficial outcomes, and the matter could have been a little more strenuously solved at the beginning by admitting the young lady was making advances.
Others might argue that war, violence, or the like are “necessary evils,” but I would disagree, saying that either war is evil and not necessary, or it is not evil but necessary. War, and violence in general, is both. War and violence is evil and not necessary under two conditions: when the reason for war is purely selfish and in aggression, and when it is used before all other options have been exhausted. The first and foremost example of a war for purely selfish reasons and in total aggression in recent history is of course Nazi Germany. “Cliché,” you might say, and I would agree, but it is cliché for a reason; it works.
But, violence can also be good, and a necessity. As contradictory as this may seem to my previously stated argument, it is possible. In another cliché example, let us imagine that you and your family are being brutally assaulted; should you not defend yourself, you and and your family could end up dead. In this case, violence is good, and also, I believe, a necessity. If the reader wishes to make the point that one need not kill the criminals, I would agree. Maiming the criminals would be the best, and most efficient use of violence, but if the case requires deadly force is also applicable.
A third common case I have heard argued for the idea of a necessary evil is that of a compromise. Many people argue that if anything is to be agreed upon in this world, compromises must be met, and I would agree. Many people generalize too much and in far to liberal terms, thinking that a compromise of settling for a few cents less an hour on a paycheck is a necessary evil, but that is not a compromise. That is bartering. A true compromise is when something important is traded in for something of far lesser value so that two people of differing ideas can be supposedly content. In short, a compromise is dealing with principles, a barter is dealing with items. World famous, and I believe wise man, Mohandas Ghandi, once said “All compromise is based on give and take, but there can be no give and take on fundamentals. Any compromise on mere fundamentals is a surrender. For it is all give and no take.” While I may not agree with all of Ghandi’s statements, I do admire him for his tenacity and dedication to his principles or fundamentals, and what he spoke was pure gold. Compromises are not a necessary evil, but a wholesale burning of what one believes in.
I pray what I have written is understood by all those who chose to read, and I hope that those who have read and perhaps object would comment below in a gentlemanly and lady-like fashion, so that an open table of free discussion might be available between those who disagree with me and those who do happen to agree with me. Thank you for your time my friends.

In Christ,

The Arab spring in Egypt has, as predicted, boiled down to a foregone conclusion. it being the Muslim Brotherhood’s dangerous moves against the State of Israel: Obama’s policy of appeasement and encouragement has boomeranged as expected, confirming the fact that everything he has advocated is not working, particularly his foreign policy.

What can be more explicit than the declaration by the Muslim Brotherhood that the agreement consummated by Egypt and Israel, after returning the Sinai to Egypt, has no meaning, and that they are not bound to honor that agreement, nor Israel’s right to exist.

If President Obama continues to adopt a slow-going, unworkable foreign policy throughout the rest of his term as president, Arab springs will, without doubt, become America’s autumn, considering that steps that he has taken so far has regrettably failed. After such a candid declaration, it is my opinion that any further subsidies to Egypt should be considered as a downright farce and an exercise in futility.

In conclusion, the fall of Hosni Mubarak from power has contributed to yet another problem for which our president is partially responsible.

Its the one thing they tell us to never do, and its the one thing that we always seem to do.

               What is your Impression?

what can you can tell by his Face?

If this is how you Judge him

Then let me spray you with Mace

” Don’t judge a book by its cover.” I have heard these words of wisdom repeated several times throughout my life, spoken but not followed. It seems as human beings, instead of simply trying to understand each other, we find it easier to label each other based on appearances. I will admit I am no Saint when it comes to this. I have often looked at other people, and I drew up assumptions based on what I have observed on them. Perhaps the only people truly innocent of judging by appearances are the blind, however I cannot say that for sure.

This ability to judge with our eyes allows us to be safe, however safety and isolation are two sides of the same coin. Sure we can guess who the drug dealer is, who the crook is, but we can only guess. That drug dealer might not be a drug dealer, that crook might not be a crook. However because people would rather label them as such and walk away, that “crook” and that “drug dealer” will not be understood and would be rejected for their looks. All the while the judges lock themselves in their homes, and keep their children away from possible friends. I will admit that its a decent method of protecting ourselves, however it doesn’t help much when a serial killer uses a “good” appearance to commit murder on unsuspecting individuals.

I am not saying that you should hug and accept everyone, because in the end you could be right, the crooks could be crooks, and the drug dealers could be drug dealers. All that I am asking is that if you have time to understand them, then please use that time. Otherwise I feel that it will be easier to distrust each other, and easier to make the wrong decisions.
