The very first of its kind - this is Beautifully Wrapped - THE Calendar for covered women.

Beautifully Wrapped is the first calendar dedicate to showcasing women who are culturally and/or
religiously covered with cloth. The pictures are vibrant – the women are mysterious and lovely – the
founder is brilliant.

The Beautifully Wrapped project is meant for the financial benefit of 10,000 girls in Senegal. 10,000 girls is an educative initiative managed by Dr. Viola Vaughn. The organization trains, educates and empowers girls to take control of their present and future lives. The young women run several businesses including selling folk art (dolls, clothing, etc), they raise plants such as hibiscus, mint and neverdai (all used primarily for making tea), along with running a tasty bakery.

For fund-raising opportunities and to pre-order a copy of the calendar from the
next shipment (since it is temporarily sold out until Dec. 9!) please jump into the world-wide web and
visit the website.

The cost for one calendar is $13 dollars and don’t forget the deed of charity you are doing by
purchasing a Beautifully Wrapped calendar. The woman behind it all is Sis. Zarinah El-Amin Naeem who founded Niyah – a creative-living and publishing business whose purpose is upliftment and inspiration. The name Niyah is of the Arabic origins and means “intentions”. It is also a word in the Swahili language and a Kwanzaa principle meaning “purpose.” Sis. Zarinah definitely had a positive intention and selfless purpose. She has uplifted and inspired many women who cover their crowns for spiritual and personal reasons. With the launch of the Beautifully Wrapped calendar we get to see women in a major publication who are like ourselves – beautifully wrapped and proud of it!

Isadora Duncan was a pioneer in the world of dance, she met her death in a unique, tragic way.

Isadora Duncan was a modern dance pioneer and choreographer who is known as the founder of modern American dance. She died tragically in a car accident at the age of forty-nine.

She was born in 1878 in San Francisco, California, the youngest of four. Her mother introduced the children to all the culture and art that San Francisco had to offer. Her parents were divorced in 1888 and the children moved to Oakland with their mother.

Isadora dropped out of school and started performing in the theatre but became disenchanted with it and eventually became a solo dance performer. In 1900, she moved to Paris where she opened her own dance studio. Her flamboyant personal style and her unique approach to dance made her a star in the Paris.

Isadora Duncan was ahead of her time in many of her beliefs. She didn’t believe in marriage and bore two children out of wedlock. Tragically, both children drowned in 1913. She was known for wearing flowing gowns, dancing barefoot, and wearing long, flowing scarves.

Unfortunately, a scarf was to be her undoing. In 1927, while she was riding as a passenger in a sports car, the scarf she was wearing somehow became entangled in one of the back wheels of the car. She was pulled from the car and dragged behind for several yards, her neck was broken by the force. She died instantly.

She was cremated and her ashes lie in the Pere Lachaise Cemetery, resting place of such people as Oscar Wilde and Jim Morrison.
