Little two story house in southwest Illinois is very haunted.

Eldred House Haunting

=================

Located in Southwestern Illinois, the Eldred House is a

two story stone building that was built over 200 years

ago. In the 1980’s and 1990’s the house was in complete

ruins, but in 1999 it was placed on the National Historic

Places list, and a slow restoration process began.

Today it is known as one of America’s most haunted

houses, and every year dozens of ghost hunts are held

here.
Four deaths have occured in the house over the years,

and also a Native American Indian’s bones were found

buried here on the property. Near where the bones were

found, an Indian mans ghost has been seen on a few

occasions. Cold spots and other weird sensations have

been felt in this area as well.
Inside the house, two areas get the most paranormal

activity, the cellar and the attic. In the attic, a little

girls spirit has been seen and heard. In the cellar,

another very active spirit resides, this one believed to

be an older man.
Alot of evidence has been captured here including

voices on evp’s, apparitions caught on video, and

strange shapes and figures caught on photographs.
The site is private so please if you want to investigate

it, make reservations. They usually charge about $40.00

per person for 1 night on the property, and this gives

you access to the inside of the house, the entire

property, and the nearby cemetery.

Places in the state of Arkansas that are rumored to be haunted by ghosts.

The Scariest And Most Haunted Places in Arkansas
=====================================

- Crescent Hotel (Eureka Springs, Arkansas)
 ————————
Located in Carroll County, the Crescent Hotel is one of Arkansas’s most famous haunted locations.
The ghost of a former owner named Doctor Norman Baker, is said to wander around the old recreation room by the foot of the stairs leading down to the first floor. In 1987, a woman reported seeing a ghost of a nurse pushing a gurney down the hallway in the middle of the night. Another ghost believed to haunt the Crescent Hotel is a man named Michael, who died during the hotel’s initial construction. Another ghost, usually seen in the lobby of the hotel or in the bar, is described as a bearded man in formal clothing. A ghost named Theodora, a cancer patient of Dr. Bakers, is said to haunt room 419. Rooms 414 and 218 have also been rumored to have alot of paranormal activity too. It is uncertain when these ghost stories began, but reports of ghost sightings increased dramatically in the 1990s.
The Crescent Hotel is a beautiful place that offers a historical view, a room to rest, and if you keep your eyes open, maybe even a ghost or two.

- Gurdon Light (Gurdon, Arkansas)
 ———————
Still seen on many nights, people come from all over to witness this unusual phenomena called the Gurdon Light. Seen mostly on darker and cloudy nights, it is a hovering whitish-blue light that sways back and forth and sometimes changes orange. It slowly moves around on the horizon and sometimes lasts for hours at a time. The light never reflects off the train tracks and there are no roads, signs, or buildings nearby so it isn’t a reflection or anything else that is easily explainable.
Locals tell a legend to explain what the light is. They say that a railroad worker was working outside of town one night and was accidentally killed when he fell onto the path of a oncoming train. His head was severed from his body and never found. Local people say the light is actually the light from his lantern as he walks the tracks searching for his missing head. Others say the light appeared after the brutal murder of a man in 1931. Both stories are true and there are records to show that they really did happen. But is the untimely death of one of these men the cause of the floating phantom light? Maybe someday we will find out the reason and cause of this strange phenomena.

- Henslee Bridge (Little Rock, Arkansas)
 ————————
The most popular haunted place in Arkansas, the ghost story of Henslee Bridge has been told for over fifty years now and it even was featured on a TV show named Unsolved Mysteries.
In 1950, a young woman died here when she was driving to her prom and lost control of her car and crashed into the waters under the Henslee Bridge.
In 1967, a man was driving past the bridge when he saw a woman dressed in a long white dress, soaked and shaking from being cold. He pulled over and picked up the woman, and she gave him an address to take her home. When he finally arrived at the house, he got out and saw that the girl disappeared. Shocked that the girl was nowhere to be seen, he knocked on the door of the house, where a older woman answered the door. The woman told the man that the same thing happened before and that he must of picked up the spirit of her dead daughter.
Other people have reported seeing the ghost here including a police officer, a school teacher, and a Baptist preacher to name a few.

- Jenkins Ferry (Sheridan, Arkansas)
 ———————-
Jenkins Ferry was the site of one of the last battles of the civil war. It is rumored to be haunted by a family of four who were accidently killed here when the battle first started. People have claimed to see the ghosts of a middle-aged man and woman here along with their two young children. Some people have also reported hearing the cries of a woman begging for her life.
Who the family was isn’t known, but for some reason their spirits remain at the site where they were murdered.

- Keller’s Chapel Cemetery (Jonesboro, Arkansas)
 —————————————-
Alot of ghost stories have been told about this small cemetery. People have claimed that strange sounds can be heard coming from the chapel late at night when it is suppose to be empty. Others have reported seeing strange things moving around the cemetery that they couldn’t identify. Flickering lights have been seen here on numerous occasions and people say that sometimes if you turn your car off here, for no reason it wont start back up for a few hours.

- Old Allen House (Monticello, Arkansas)
 ————————-
Located in Drew County, this four story Victorian house was built in the early 1900’s by a wealthy farmer named Joe Lee Allen. The Allen family lived here until the 1950’s, when the house was turned into an apartment complex. Many of the rsidents who lived here have claimed that it is haunted.
One of Mr. Allen’s daughters named LaDell commited suicide here in the house by drinking cyanide. Many people believe that it is her spirit that haunts the property.
A doctor who use to live in the building actually caught a photograph of the active spirit. A couple who also lived here, said they heard the laugh of a female in one of their bedrooms, when they went into the room to see who was there the laughing stopped and the room was empty. An Author named Carol Wilson wrote a book about the things she and others witnessed here in the Old Allen House. And on one occasion, the police were called to investigate loud noises coming from the top floor, only to find the place empty.
Today the Old Allen House is again a private residence and no ghost hunting is allowed. But most people believe that it is still very active and that the ghost of LaDell Allen still resides here.

Some of the scariest places in America reviewed.

An hour outside Denver in Estes, Colorado you can find one of the scariest hotels in American history, The Stanley Hotel. The real life hotel was the basis for Steven King’s “The Shining.”

After a very interesting stay in the hotel King decided to write his third book based upon his experience. The hotel was built by F.O. Stanley, the designer of the “Stanley Steam” engines. There are numerous reports that he and his wife still room the hotel, where he frequents the front desk and she can be heard playing the piano in the lobby. There have been thousands of reports of children playing in the fourth floor hall, even when no children are in the hotel.

A visit Decatur, Illinois will bring you to the Lincoln Theatre, considered the most haunted theatre in America.

The Lincoln was built in the 1916 in classic horror film style, on top of a Native American burial ground. Worse yet, the site was built over the scene of a large hotel fire only a year before the theatre opened. Here many people report seeing people across the open auditorium, which has long been closed for safety reasons. behind the stage people believe the have been followed up a spiral staircase. Literally hundreds of accounts of unexplained incidents make the Lincoln the most haunted theatre in America.

The scariest real haunted house in America can be found in a small Iowa town called Villisca. Here the fomre home of J. Moore is simply know as “The Villisca Axe Murder House”.

The Moores came home from a church function with two house guests in June, 1912. Somewhere between midnight and 5am, J.Moore, his wife, their four children and the two house guest were brutally axe murdered by unknown assailants believed to have been hiding in the attic. All 8 were found dead the next morning. The case was never solved. The house was bought in 1994, and restored to the historical state of the 1912 axe murders. The owners here say they constantly find childrens rubber ball rolling in the hall, and though they remove them they always come back. The door opening to the hall opens and closes by itself, usually around dinner time.
