State-funded grants for graduate student research may also be available from your higher education or university's home condition.

You may feel like a master’s degree system is out of reach because of its expensive. However, according to your educational standing, course of research, race, sex, and several other requirements, you may be qualified for a a scholarships for master’s degree learners from one of several options. The first step is knowing where to look for such money.

One place you’ll discover grants for masters research is through the administration. While these are limited, you can still reduce the problem of the expenditure for your graduate student research by seeking these opportunities. Keep in mind that while these grants can be quite nice, a govt service need may be connected to them. Beyond the administration, another resource is the school you plan to go to. Often, according to past performance, you may be qualified for grants directly through your school or higher education of choice.

State-funded grants for graduate student research may also be available from your higher education or university’s home condition. Most condition agencies that provide grants to learners have specialised programs for those seeking a masters level, especially in certain areas of research where the price is greater or the need in the condition for such training is great.

Private companies are another excellent source of grants for a master’s degree. Often, according to your area of research, companies and other personal companies might help finance your education in exchange for internships in their company, as well as the hope of selecting your services for their company upon commencement.

Finally, unprivileged (both cultural and gender) may also discover that if they wish to enter a masters system in a area in which their community is underrepresented, a number of grants could be available to them through professional companies concerned with variety in their specific workforces.

“Someone Like UChicago”

Parody of “Someone Like You” by Adele.

I heard that you

Settled down-payments

Found a girl with some

Really rich parents.

I heard that her dreams came true.

Guess she gave you things my father didn’t give to you.

Old friend, why are greedy?

Ain’t like you to hold back financial aid from the needy!

I hate to turn up in my maroon uninvited, but I

Couldn’t stay away, I couldn’t fight it I’d

Hoped you’d see my grades, and that you’d be reminded that for me,

THE WORLD IS OVER!!

Nevermind! I’ll find somewhere like you!

I’ll do nothing but my best for them, too!

Don’t forget me, I begged. I remember you said,

“Sometimes we let you in, and screw you with tuition instead.”

You know how the money flies

Only yesterday, it was fifty-five.

We were born and raised with a single tip

“Don’t save anything. You’ll get scholarships.”

I hate turn up in my maroon uninvited but

I couldn’t stay away, I couldn’t fight it

I had hoped you’d see my face and that you’d be reminded that for me,

This isn’t over, yet.

NEVERMIND! I’ll find somewhere like you!

I’ll do nothing but my best for them, too!

“Don’t forget me!” I begged. I remember you said,

“Sometimes we let you in, and screw you with tuition instead…”

Nothing compares to your tuition and fares,

The room and the board and new computer cords.

Who would have known how bittersweet acceptance would be?

The cost of college entrance exams may keep low income students from taking the test. With the economy in a slump and high employment rates, many families may qualify for testing vouchers so potential college students can take the tests for free.

The ACT is a $30 college entrance test which places a student into college classes based on the student’s ability and knowledge. Students who qualify for free and reduced lunches also qualify for a voucher from their school for a free ACT test.

Because of the downturn in the economy, more students than ever should qualify for this free test. The voucher is used in place of a check or credit card when registering to take the test. School counselors can contact ACT and request these vouchers. Once a school signs up, they will automatically be sent vouchers the next school year. The number of vouchers sent is determined by how many were used the previous school year.

Results from the ACT have a direct impact on a school district’s state reporting. It is a positive mark to have a high number of students take the ACT, but only if they score well. Therefore, schools may want to only give vouchers to students who have successfully taken the practice test or taken an ACT preparation course.

For many vocational and 2-year colleges, the ACT is not necessary. The Compass Test, another assessment offered through ACT, is an on-line assessment that is usually offered for free to students once they have enrolled in the vocational or 2-year college of their choice. Unlike the ACT, the Compass test is not a timed test and the student’s score is available as soon as the test is completed.

A college entrance test is required for postsecondary education. Contact a high school or college counselor for more information on how to take these tests for free.

We've all heard the advices from various teachers, counselors, and parents about financial management in college. Here is another set of advice from a fellow college student trying to maximize college experience but minimize college spending!

Image via Wikipedia

Plagued by the recent economic recession, and fear of unemployment after college, our generation has heard many advices on how to maximize the college experience without spending a fortune and a half on tuition, books, and boarding. Well, take it from me, I’ve heard it all–but nothing like hearing the same advices from someone who actually graduated in this economy. Here are the five things college students really need to do in order to minimize their college expenses:

1. Don’t be lazy, submit your FAFSA early! Yes, intimidating acronyms are part of adult life and college has introduced us to our first real-world experience in filling up complicated paperwork: Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The word here is “FREE” and, unlike our college applications, we don’t have to pay for this service. All we need to do is muster up the courage to gather the necessary paperwork, go online (or print out applications), and start filling up the form. FAFSA is an application for students who wants to be considered for financial aids. Some scholarships and grants from schools actually require students to have filled up their FAFSA forms. Check them out at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

2. Hunt for scholarship. Much like our obsession with e-mails, social networking, or blogging, make it a habit to check for new scholarships regularly. Keeping updated is an active way to look for scholarships instead of staying put and waiting for one opportunity to just drop on your lap. If you can find 10-15 minutes checking out YouTube videos, you can find that time to check out scholarships. Some online scholarship search engines are also available such as scholarshipexperts.com. Some scholarships are less than $500 in prizes, but every penny counts!

3. Get good grades–seriously. Of course, this goes without saying, but getting good grades in college not only establishes yourself as a good student, but also qualifies you for many interscholastic scholarships that your school might offer. Having a higher GPA is often a requirement for most scholarships, so keep up the good work. If you want to think about it in a business sense, then have this thought: you are paying thousands of dollars to learn, so don’t waste your money by “getting by.” Get your money’s worth and grab those A’s!

4. Join academic clubs. Accounting Clubs, Sociology Clubs, and the like aren’t just social networking clubs where you get to interact with people within your own major, rather, it is a place to get insider information on many scholarships as well. Some scholarships which are geared towards your specific major might not always be included in the general scholarship lists in your school website or office.

5. Be cheap. There’s a reason why people associate college students with being “broke” and why your student ID could get you savings coupons and discounts everywhere: you’re supposed to be cheap! College is already draining your bank accounts with hundred-dollar books and exorbitant tuition rates, you do not want to add credit card bills to this expense. Be conscious about what you spend on “wants” and be wise about prioritizing your “needs”. In short, channel your inner Scrooge and save that money!

Educational terminology can be very confusing, Here I explain the exact differences between a student loan and a scholarship, and how each one can benefit you separately or synergistically together.

The issue of the rising cost of education is not new to everyone, whether it’s for rich people or those who just barely make a living.

However, this is not much of a threat for those who want to get into college, but fail to meet their expenses. This is because the two choices made available to them, first is scholarship programs. And the other is loans. They may apply to either of the two.

Basically, the scholarship provides monetary award which do not require the beneficiary to repay it. Unlike student loans, the money that was lent to the students will be paid after a certain time by a corresponding amount plus interests.

It therefore seems obvious that a scholarship is more convenient than student loans. But you should know that both still consists of its advantages and disadvantages.

The scholarship, students need not worry about the economy throughout their college år.Nästan thousands of scholarships are made available every year. The system of programs is dependent on the financial needs of a particular student.

Although doesn’t mean that you are not intelligent because you are not able to acquire a scholarship. There are different types of scholarship, is one of the intellectuals who acquire and maintain high grades. The second is the specific scholarships designed for those who excel in specific areas, such as in sports, mathematics, science, music, stage performers and others.

Those who belong in average I.Q. can still win a scholarship. They may not have the remarkable level of intelligence to win a scholarship, but their talents may secure them one.

In addition, there are also scholarships designed for certain races, minorities and other sectors of society who need financial assistance. And scholarship is not just limited to college students, students who wish to pursue studies can also be facilitated.

There are also several institutions that offer scholarship programs for their members, examples of this are the religious organization and union groups, etc.

Now, if you think you won’t be readable for all scholarship, there is still an option ó student loans.

Student loans, as mentioned above, financial assistance to students to pay their tuition with the agreement to repay it with similar interests in a given period.

Scholarships do not require for repayment, but student loans do.

The advantage of a student loan is that it gives you freedom to move like a normal student, but the pressure to maintain high ratings and you can do your other activities without thinking about the conflict in schedules.

Hassle is when you would consider it, student loans must be repaid when you upgrade, you must pay to the last cent plus the interests.

If you are the bread winner of your family, pay for it will be even a burden if you already have a job.

Anyway, it depends on you, it is important you are done with higher education and secure a diploma may be from a scholarship or through student loans.

To achieve your earning my education hindrance of money is that you will always be proud of.

If you are African American, then you have a hand up on most other races when it comes to acquiring a scholarship to go to college! Learn how to use this to your advantage here.

He was the designated National Spokesman for Nation of Islam, a religious and socio-political organization founded in the United States aimed at reviving the mental, social, spiritual and economic conditions for black men and women in the country and in other parts of the world.

He is Malcolm X.

He was the famous leader of the American civil rights movement and won the Nobel Peace Prize for his promotion of peace and equality of different races all over the world.

He is Martin Luther King

He is three-time World Heavyweight boxing champion and one of the best pound-for-pound boxer ever existed, which made its way to the Boxing Hall of Fame.

He is Muhammad Ali, or Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr.

Each of them has their own world to explore and own businesses to participate. But there is one thing that unites them as one.

All are African Americans, or also known as black Americans.

A black American is considered one of the members of an ethnic group in the United States, whose ancestry can be traced its roots predominantly in Africa. The majority of them are descendants of African slaves who were transported from central Africa through the Middle Passage to North America and the Caribbean during the trans-Atlantic slave trade (1609-1807). Others are immigrants from European and African countries are classified by the United States Census of American demographic rather than social.

Their population is estimated to be 40 million and they are mainly Christians and Muslims. Due to hundreds of events that happened in the history of the U.S., Black Americans from ethnic ranks and proved themselves to be called the majority class as opposed to being in the ethnic category. They have triumphed, producing black American figures who succeeded in their respective endeavors.

And all the black students to succeed in achieving their dreams.

Despite the popularity of various black American personalities, poverty is still within the ranks of many black American families. The problem with sending their children to college, especially in exclusive universities like Harvard and Yale. They can withstand the discrimination that still exists despite all that has happened, but poverty is what they can not resist anymore.

Is there any hope for a black student to study in college?

Yes, there is.

And it is by getting a black college scholarship.

There are hundreds of scholarships that are not only open to White Americans, but is also intended for Black American students. There you have scholarships for minority students, college scholarships to black American and African organizations (whether civic or religious), and state-sponsored scholarships for black students. U.S. Constitution is clear that there would be no discrimination when it comes to getting a solid and well as education for its citizens. Whether you are a white or black, you are entitled to receive a high quality education in the country.

With these scholarships for prospective black students, they will be able to realize their dreams of becoming one of the most successful personalities, just like Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, and Muhammad Ali, who has already made a mark in their respective areas of activity. Poverty is just a small obstacleóthere is hope for something, even for a black student who wants to take a step higher and get himself to college.

Yes, education can be expensive, even if you are an older student. But there are ways to pay to go back to school.

Before, I go on with writing about tuition, I should mention that I am taking a Canadian point of view with this. So if you are from the United States or other countries, please feel free to comment and say how one pays for University or College.

Now, I am one of those mature students who still has to pay for her past student loans. Yes, student loan is one way to pay your tuition for going University. However, there are other options if you do not want to pay more student loans. But I will get back to student loans and my experience with them later.

Of course there are Scholarships available to mature students. I do not know of any that is for mature students without any dependents (I wish that there was). The best way to find out about Scholarships is to google it, or you can go to sites such as http://www.studentawards.com, http://www.scholarshipscanada.com, http://www.canlearn.ca, or http://www.schoolfinder.com to find out what Scholarships are available. But you do also have to keep in mind that Scholarships have deadlines. So, you better sign up for them soon.

Then there are Grants. Grants are money that you do not pay back. The best sites to research Grants are CanLearn and http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/eng/learning/canada_student_loan/index.shtml. Now there are Grants for Students from Low Income Families, Middle Income Families, Students with Dependent, Those studying Part-Time, those with Disabilities and those taking apprenticeship courses.

There is also a Student Line of Credit. A Student Line of Credit is much like a Student Loan, but you start paying a monthly interest when you start school. Once you are finished school the bank will allow a grace period (Which is usually about a year), before you start repaying the bank. And the way that you can sign up for a Student Line of Credit is through your bank. There are two different types of Student Line of Credit. One is if you decide not to work while you go to school, which means that you need someone to be your co-signer. The other is if you still are working Part Time when you go back to school (And you don’t need someone to sign with you).

The advantage of a Student Line of Credit is that it usually takes about three days to process.

And now I can talk about Student Loans.

I have to mention that I was a mature student at the start of year. But my program was Massage Therapy, which I didn’t do too well on. I did receive a Student Loan without any problems. When I was going to school, I didn’t have to repay any of my past loans. However, when I decided to change programs was when I had problems with Alberta Student Loan.

First off, I didn’t see that there was a form in the loan application that I had to fill out mentioning that I changed programs. Second, I got a rejection letter in July because the Loan office was confused because they thought that I was taking two programs. I had to fax the a letter stating that I didn’t do too well in my last program, thus I have to change. Another item that they suggest that I should do is to go to an Alberta Career Counsellor so that they can write a letter stating that I was with them in regards to this change and also some papers proving that change (When it was just me doing my soul searching instead). The Career Coach that I first saw mentioned not to worry about it, and that I should schedule another appointment just in case (Plus he gave me some papers that I filled out to bring to that meeting in August). And I did go to my school to let them know about this rejection, they deferred the deadline (The original deadline was in August) to September.

Then when I called Alberta Student Funding, the representative there told me that I have a default on my previous Canada Student Loan and that I should call them to get a letter. I called the Canada Student Loan and their answer was “No.” And then I figured out that why I wasn’t told about the default, so I called Alberta Student Funding again and I found out that it was a Partial Default. And I did go to my August appointment with the Career Counsellor and forgot to bring the papers. So I have to schedule another appointment with her on September 3rd. And just last week, I got a letter from Student Loan stating that they are not going to process the loan until I talk to the Government of Alberta Career Counsellor.

So, I know that I am not the only student that has this problem with Student Loan. I don’t mind you writing about your own horror stories about them. But at least I took the advice of the person at the school that I am going to and have a back up plan.

Let me know what you all think. Again I don’t mind any feedback and suggestions for future topics. Or if I have made a mistake on this blog, feel free to correct me.
