How to do so.

It can’t have escaped your attention that the binge drinking problem in this country is going from bad to worse. There is a huge number of people being hospitalised every night due to drinking too much, and a shocking number of them are actually too young to even be able to legally drink. With this being the case, it seem to be the only logical step that we should want to prepare our children for the prospect of alcohol in advance, so that they are given all of the information about it that they need, as this should make them less likely to get into trouble.

Firstly, if you make alcohol a mystery to your children, then this is just going to make them even more curious about it when their time comes. From when they are young, you should allow them to sip at an alcoholic drink at meal times, or even have one of their own mixed very weakly with lemonade or another soft drink. This means that once they’re legally able to buy alcohol themselves, they’re not going to rebel against you and just go and drink as much of it as they can. They’re not going to be wondering what it tastes like, as they will have already tried it, nor are they going to think that they are cool for drinking it because it will have just been something that they were brought up being able to drink. It is also important that you set an example to them as well. It is up to you if you want to get drunk, however to do this in front of your children would not be good parenting. This would mean that they would see that being drunk is the norm, and this should not be the case at all.

When they are in their teens, you should tell them that you don’t mind them having a drink at parties, as long as they tell you what they want and then let you buy it for them. You don’t want them to get into the habit of buying alcohol on their own when it isn’t legal, as this is only going to get them into a lot of trouble in the long term. Tell them that you trust them not to drink anything other than what you’re buying for them, and that if they betray that trust, you’re simply not going to allow them to take alcohol or a party again or, if they’re young enough to still be under your control, go to the party at all.

It is important that you talk about the dangers of drinking to them. If you know of somebody who has damaged themselves seriously with alcohol, or even died because of it, then this is a good story. You don’t want to scare them, and they need to understand that alcohol can be fine in small amounts, but it is very important that they do understand just how problematic an actual binge can be to their own bodies.

Research suggests students with less are more likely to distrust others.

When you were in school – or if you are now in school – did you ever cheat on an exam? Did you peek at your friend’s paper and copy his or her answers? Do you go online to seek out reports and papers that you can easily copy and turn in as your own?

How about on the job or getting a job? Is ‘enhancing’ your resume worth it if it gets you a leg up on the job you want or the promotion you seek?

In a recent research study, scientists found that people in lower income categories – at least as far as students are concerned – cheat more. The Canadian researchers say that income inequality decreases the general trust people have toward each other.

The researchers determined that if students don’t trust each other, some of them might think they have to cheat to keep up with their unscrupulous classmates. And other research has shown that this kind of distrust is more likely to be found in places with where incomes are not equal.

Google Data Used

To conduct their research and to examine the connection between trust, income inequality, and academic dishonesty, the researchers looked at data from Google that broke down search terms by state (in the U.S.) and found data on searches on phrases like “free term paper,” “buy term paper,” and the names of cheating websites. He compared these to survey data on how trusting people are in each state and a measure of income inequality from the U.S. Census Bureau. They controlled for several other factors that could influence the number of searches, including how many students are in each state, how large the colleges in each state are, and average household income.

Their data showed that people who live in states with more income inequality were less trusting in general, and those states had more evidence of academic dishonesty. The next step, say the researchers, will be to duplicate their finding using laboratory experiments, using pay structure to alter income inequality, then observing the effects on students’ trust and dishonest behavior.

If one of the root causes of cheating is distrust, this could explain why measures like honor codes work, they say. When students trust that other people aren’t cheating, they are less likely to cheat themselves.

You won't be regretting it.

If you think back to when you were a child, you probably spent a lot more time reading that you do now. With the invention of the 24 hour television and the internet, it is starting to mean that we don’t have the same amount of time just to be able to sit and read as we might have done in the past, and this means that books are being forgotten in our younger generations. However, reading should be encouraged a lot more. Not only does it help us to learn how to read, which is obviously important to be able to do, but it also helps our imagination to grow and teaches us a lot about our lives and what we can expect from the world. But, with our lives busier than ever these days, how an we expect to be able to find the time to read a book?

The first thing that you should do is think about how much time you spend on the internet. Most people spend several hours per day on their computer, and this means that you should think about setting a rule which would mean that you wouldn’t spend more than half an hour per day on your computer. You should also make sure that you set a time by which you should be off the internet each night, and ensure that you stick to it so that you’re not just sitting aimlessly clicking on things that you don’t even really have an interest in. If you set that time aside specifically for reading, then you’re much more likely to actually get it done than if you just say that you’re going to read something during the course of that day; as time will run away with you and you may end up not getting anything done at all.

If you have children, then it is really important that you get them into good habits quickly in their life. This will mean that they will grow up being able to appreciate books and the worlds that are held within them. You should start to teach them how to read from an early age, and encourage them to read anything and everything that you see when you’re out and about with them. In addition to this, you should make sure that they never get into the habit of sitting for hours on end on games consoles, as this can mean that they end up not reading at all, which can only be a bad thing. By starting your children out this way in life, it is much more likely that they’re going to be able to pick up good habits, and this means that they will learn how to read properly. If you work together with them and with your child’s school, there is no reason that your child should not learn how to really enjoy reading, unlike a lot of children who’s parents don’t bother with them at all and just let them do whatever they like all day. Be a good parent, and give the gift of reading to your child.

How to do so.

If your child is in primary school, then it is very mportant that they learn the art of being organised. If they are able to do this now, then it is a skill that would stay with them for the rest of their lives, meaning that they would be able to be successful in their later education and eventually careers. Primary school is a big change in a child’s life, because it means that they have to take some kind of responsibility for themselves for the first time ever, rather than just being able to rely on you as parents to organise them and keep them happy and safe.

The first thing that you should do is make sure that you know just what they have to do in school. Their class teacher should be able to fill you in with what they have done in school that day, and also the things that they want you to do at home with them when they get back from school. It is important to get your children into the habit of working to deadlines right from being young, as this is something that will be of great benefit to them in their later life.

Routines are very important with young children, and they will often thrive on them. You should set specific times for homework to be done in the evening, and the best time to be able to do this is just before dinner, as young children get tired after dinner and they would not be able to complete their best work if it was after bed. If they say that they don’t feel like doing their work, then you should never give in to them, as they will then know exactly what they have to do to be able to get out of doing the things that they wanted to.

Reading is something that is to be encouraged by parents. Children don’t do enough reading these days, and it is very important that you are able to read your child’s reading book with them on a practically daily basis. As well as this, you should ask them what various words are around the house and on road signs, as this would mean that your child would get into the habit of looking at words and trying to work out what they meant. You should be careful that you don’t teach your child different methods to the ones that their teacher sets for them, because this would confuse them and might mean that it would take them a lot longer to learn how to read in the long term. The most important thing that you have to do is be encouraging, as children always know when their parents are being supportive of them. Getting them into the habit early on in life means that they’re going to cope a lot better in the rest of their education, as they will have learned right away.

Teachers are starting to sell their lesson plans to other teachers who purchase them. This is a new online business, and it has worked so well that one teacher has earned $700,000 doing just that.

We don’t always recognize what has value. We do our day, our week and month, and we do not see that much of what we know and do can be sold, in one form or another.

Knowledge has value. Let me say it another way. What you know may be valuable to someone else. Other people may wish to purchase what you know for their work or their hobby.

Why would people want to pay for something they can get online? Because finding the right combination of lessons, or technique for teaching the lessons may not be readily available. There are those who have a gift for teaching. There are others who have knowledge, but couldn’t teach it under any circumstances, because they do not have the gift of explaining things.

There is a website that allows teachers to sell lesson plans. It is called Teachers Pay Teachers. There is an article about this website at: http://news.yahoo.com/kindergarten-teacher-earns-700-000-selling-lesson-plans-200139239.html.

This article talks about how many of the people who make the lessons are making money, and other details. Most of the lessons sell from $5 to $10 each, but according to the article, whole schools are purchasing these lesson plans, not simply the teachers themselves.

Finding out what schools need may be key to developing lesson plans for them. Specific and targeted groups, such as special education, remedial classes, translation/language plans, advanced lessons, etc. may be niches that need more attention.

It seems also, that vocational schools should not be left out. Much of what is needed should come from those who have experience in those fields, and perhaps the “teacher” certificates would not be as important. Contacting local schools in your area might be a good place to start.

If you are a good writer, you already are in a good position to write lesson plans. Go to the link above first as it gives some information about who is selling lesson plans. Then go to Teachers Pay Teachers at: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/. The site is fabulous.

A very ambitious student gets caught up in the recession; four years after graduating from university he finds himself with debts of $60,000.

As a child, each and every one of us has dreams of becoming a doctor, engineer, teacher or even president of a country. As the time passes by and we grow up, some of us are lucky enough to fulfil those dreams, while others remain behind closed doors and not able to achieve any of their dreams. Let’s imagine for a few minutes, what happens to those of us who are ambitious and have not been able to achieve their goal? Despite the fact they have devoted their whole life to the purpose of achieving one goal.
Let’s take the example of someone I have known for a very long time; he wants to remain anonymous. Ever since, I have known him, he has been a very ambitious and hard-working person. As a child he wanted to work in the media industry as a PR Executive and it was the only job he wanted. He was a good student at school, with an excellent character.
He wasn’t the brightest student in the class, but was average, yet very ambitious and diligent. As we grew up together, he successfully graduated from High School with good grades and proceeded to go to college. After graduating from college, he went to university to study a degree course to follow his dream. While studying full time he was working part time in order to cover his expenses. In addition, he attended unpaid work placements with major PR companies, which would be useful for him to secure a job once he graduated from university.
He graduated from university with a Merit grade, which he didn’t expect. He was shocked and disappointed with the grades because the low grade meant that it might jeopardise his long term goal to become a PR Executive. But he remained hopeful that he could start a career somewhere in PR industry.
After sending thousands of applications and resumes for two years, he didn’t find work in the media industry, so he decided to apply for jobs in the banking sector, as he had previously worked as a part time customer sales person. But it seemed he was running out of luck, as he could not find a full time job in the banking sector.
When he graduated, it was the start of the recession, which made it even more difficult for him to get a job in any sector. Like thousands of other graduates he was also the victim of the recession. After two years of searching for a full time job in all sectors, he was still jobless, although he worked as a part time customer service representative, which wasn’t his ideal job.
During this period, he had been borrowing money from credit cards and banks as he used to hold an excellent credit scoring. But he was unaware that he had borrowed too much. Four years later, he was still working as a part time customer service representative for a company, and he was only earning just enough to cover his rent. He was really worried about his health when he realised that he had borrowed $60,000, which he could not pay back any time soon.
His only hope was to buy lottery tickets, if he could win a lottery to pay back his loans. Although he didn’t consider himself lucky enough to win a lottery, he remained optimistic. Buying lottery tickets was giving him hope rather than anything else.
I had no idea that a degree course would cost you so much. If he had not followed his dream to study, he would not have been at the same position as he is now. Education is supposed to make your life better, not worse, but I have come across several people who have been left without hope after earning their degrees.
There is a question in my mind, after all those years: was it worth dreaming, spending most of your time and money in education?

It's not as easy as you think.

With the current economy the way it is, the simple fact is that there are not as many jobs as there once were to go around the population. One of the main problems is that more people than ever are choosing to remain in education, and this is meaning that we are having more and more competition with regards to the other people who are applying for the same jobs as us. There are many people who have degrees and higher qualifications who are applying for jobs which would have been taken by people who had just left school with GCSEs in the past. However, this doesn’t mean that you should give up.

The first thing that you need to remember is that you are at a slight advantage. With the current economy, companies cannot afford to pay more than minimum wage in a lot of cases, and the minimum wage for somebody who is 16 is a lot less than someone who has a degree and is now 21. Although this means that the job that you eventually gain might not have the highest rate of pay, at least you have the chance to get a job at all, which is more than can be said for a lot of people at the moment.

Your CV is the only thing that your potential employer is going to see before they decide whether to give you an intervie or not. With this being the case, it is important that you have it up to date and that it includes the qualifications that you’re the most proud of. If you have failed any of your GCSEs, there is no need for you to disclose this, however you should never directly lie if you’re asked about them. It is important that you write on your grades for English and Maths, and if there are any other results that are specific for the job then they should go on too.

Experience is what most employers are seeking these days, and this is one of the problems that many 16 year olds have. Due to budget cuts, a lot of schools don’t even have their work experience programme any more. Because of this, it is vital that you get some kind of experience working for someone. If you’re 16, then even a newspaper round would be better than nothing. It shows that you’re willing to work, and that you can commit to a job. Working in charity shops is another thing that is really good to do as it shows that you’re not just in it for the money.

The final thing that you have to do is to never give up. Apply for as many jobs as possible, and don’t get worried if you don’t get a single interview even though you’ve applied for more than 20 jobs. This is just the way of the economy, and is not a reflection on you as an individual.

How to do so.

When we have a child, one of the things that we dread the most is having them bullied at school. We all know how it feels to be teased, and we hear stories every day of children who might have gone through a hard time and then it has had a very negative effect on them for the rest of their lives. One of the most important things that you need to do is look out for signs that your child is being bullied.

The Signs To Look Out For:

Your child may become more withdrawn and quiet than normal, not wanting to go out with their friends, or take part in family activities.

He/She might be reluctant to go in to school, when it had never been a problem in the past.

Appetite changes, such as not eating as much or starting to over eat things like junk food.

Sleep disturbances, like not being able to get to sleep, or not wanting to get out of bed in the morning.

Fabricating illnesses to try to avoid school.

Physical complaints like headaches. These might feel very real to your child so don’t accuse them of lying.

Unwillingness to complete homework that they would never have refused to do in the past.

Obsession with own body image, or asking you whether they are fat.

Although there might be a lot of other things that could show that your child is being bullied, they are some of the most common ones. Basically, what you’re looking for is a change in their normal behaviour which might just signal to you that something has changed, or that something is not quite right.
If you feel as though your child might be getting bullied, it is important that you assure them that they can tell you anything if there is something that is worrying them. Don’t force them to talk, as this will push them away, but make sure that they know that the help is there if they choose to use it.
It may be a good idea if your child is young to go and have a word with the class teacher. They should be able to see whether anything is going on providing they are monitoring the class properly, and they might be able to give you some kind of indication that something isn’t quite right. You could also ask the teacher whether she would mind making sure that your child had friends to play with.
If the school teacher knows which of the children are bullying your child, you should not take matters into your own hands. Although it can be tempting to speak to the child’s parents yourself, it can make things worse, so you should always leave it to the teacher to sort out. The only time that you should do anything is if something happens outside of school that causes you any kind of concern.
Finally, if you think that your child might be getting depressed about the bullying situation, then try taking him to see a doctor. They might be able to offer counselling which, although it might seem a little bit scary, could be a great solution, as the child would be able to talk to somebody who they knew wouldn’t be able to interfere in any way, as this can be something that a lot of children are afraid of. Never underestimate bullies, or assume that it’s just a bit of teasing, because things like this can make a great impact on the early life of a child.

Should school children be pushed this hard?

It is that time of year again where children all over the country are taking their exams. The months and months of revision, pressure and stress all come to this moment. However, some of the children who are taking the examinations this week are just 10/11 years old. Can it really be right to put them under this amount of pressure to succeed?

The thing that people need to remember is that these exams are here to test the success of the school, not the success of each of the children individually. This is why so many of the teachers push the children as hard as they possibly can, because they know that a poor result would reflect badly on them, and this is something that obviously they don’t want as it would be bad for their career as a teacher.

Some of the schools that I know set far too much work for the children. Whereas a child should be set half an hour each evening at that age to cover everything including reading, spelling and maths, children around the time of their SATs are being made to work for four or five hours each day, which is far too much for a child of that age. If the child does not do the work, then they get into trouble for it and might miss break and lunch times in order to catch up. This is the very time that the child should be playing outside with their friends without a care in the world, not sitting in the classroom catching up on work that they really don’t want to do.

A lot of teachers are worried about the exams, and rightly so as they are a measure of how well the school is doing, however they allow this worry to be perceived by the pupils which is something that is compeltely and utterly unacceptable in my opinion. Teachers should be putting the children at ease, not making them worry about things that have to be done whether they’re stressed out about it or not.

If a teacher has taught a child well throughout their education, then really, there should not be any need for revision. SATs are not like GCSEs where there is a lot of information to get through in one go. There are simple questions which test just the things that the children should be able to do automatically by that stage of their education. By forcing a child to do more homework than they have ever had to do in their life, they are making them stressed, and no child should have to be put under that amount of pressure at such a young age.
