Not a good school at all.

I grew up in a different style of education to an American education, and although I am not trying to put down the American education system what so ever, the school I write this about has major problems. I would also strongly suggest that anyone coming to live in Palm Coast or anyone in Palm Coast DO NOT send your child to this school!

It was last year one of the worst schools, if not the worst school fore overall grades. The school even fired one of the teachers because the grade score where really that bad. This year might see the same thing happen if the school does the right thing with one teacher in question.

There has been rumors (although it only be rumors) that the guy who is one of the trustees, and is one of two people who run,and oversee the school has been having sex with teachers, and other people affiliated with the school, and fired the last principal when the parents where told she resigned. The previous principal was fine in my eyes, and I only wish she was there still.

I have helped my son a lot with his homework to a point where I do have to go over the same thing over, and over. But he has been on and off the schools A/B honor role all this year. I am concerned for the students of this school. Not only for their grades, but their on overall health. My son comes home telling me teachers tell him not to tell on other students when they kick him in the shins.and he has had other incidents when he has had possessions taken off of him,and put in the bin only for him to get into trouble for trying to get his stuff back.

There is a current situation that I cannot write about here as of yet because I should not know about it,but it is not something that should happen in any school, and when it is the appropriate time I will be opening my mouth about it on a comment to this submission, and to the local school board.

I have worked to hard over the past 3 grades, and in kindergarten before those 3 grades for the situation in hand to happen that could prevent a lot of children being held back. I know my son I clever enough to pass third grade, and because of one bad teacher that none of the teachers like he ans other students have to suffer.

I grew up wearing uniforms, and was mandatory. This charter school thinks uniforms are good, yes they are. BUT good grades come first, uniforms, and field trips second. The whole city will now have mandatory uniforms which is good. But I would hope the people at this school see the problems it is having, wake up to them, and sort them out fast.

My wife thinks our son should stay at this school when teachers tell kids who are bullied not to tell on the bullies, one is not qualified to reach, and had the worst grade scores last school year. My son hates the school, and I wanted to take him out after first grade. He has now been there three grades. My wife has had advice from a teacher friend that she should pull him out if one certain teacher actually keeps their job.

I for one did my best to ensure my son passes every grade. I am upset, angry, frustrated, and want justice for what has been happening at this school that feels pretending to have a no bully zone by putting up signs, when really the teachers think the bullies should get away with it. Poor grades, and a principal that is old enough to be retired a long time ago.

If any other third grade teachers from this year some how read this please comment, because I have a feeling we are not the only family who have had these kind of problems. We even had a letter some home from an anonymous person affiliated with the school about other things going on at the school that also included some of the items mentioned in what I have wrote here.

I do not,and will not make any apologies to anyone who reads this, and is offended by it,or might think I am trying to put everyone involved with the school in a bad light. There are some teachers at the school who actually are very good teachers indeed. Two come to mind, one is not involved as much due to having a baby, and the other just had some of the best grades for her students in reading orientated grades.

I have seen several teachers leave this school, and know of others wanting to leave as soon as possible. This school had its good points, but unfortunately the bad points out weight the good. I feel the male trustee, and principal need to go,and on of the teachers really needs to go,and be replaced by people who know what they are doing, and do things that are in the interest of the students getting good grades.

Please for now until this school gets a whole lot better do not send your students here. Although if you feel you can sort the school out then please do so. The school needs a attitude adjustment, and quick. The bus driver who drops my son off always complains about the bad kids on the bus,and now has to go off route specifically to drop them off first.

Rant over. Please leave a comment asking questions. I will update oyu with comments as,and when I feel I need to. They will be coming pretty soon to.

Few advantages and disadvantages of living in cities or small towns. You choose which one suits you best.

City

Long avenues. Traffic. People seem to be perennially in a mood. Someone may push you as you go down the underground train escalators. It seems that everything is a lot more expensive, but there’s a lot more on offer and demand. If one place they ask you 4 for something, go to somewhere else where you’ll probably find it at 3. No worries. People are rude, pushy, demanding. One doesn’t seem to be a human being, but a mere number. You’ve got an ID, passport or social security card and all of them show a number. You’ll be requested to show them one of these documents as soon as you walk in governmental office as you approach one of the counters. In a matter of seconds, a screen will show up your biography. No way to lie or hide anything. They will know in a blink what you have done or haven’t done in recent times. The lungs of a city is a park where everyone mingles at any given time. Buskers, fortune tellers, puppet shows… All of them try to get their living entertaining city dwellers on a sunny afternoon. “Isn’t it gorgeous here?” someone may ask to someone else. “It is, indeed!” City parks become this oases where anyone can stroll, sit to read or just watch people’s strolling around. Everyone moans about city living, but many of us land on it in search for jobs and a better living.

Town

I had never lived in a small town and I wonder what it was going to be like, being so used as I was to urban environment. Towns are small places. Some of them can be really pretty and on some occasions quite a place apart. People seem to be friendlier than they are in a big city, and, inn fact, they are. Yet, they have no other option. Be rude in a small place where everybody knows each other and you’ve go it! No one will speak to you and locals will pass you by. They seem to be more relaxed. They greet each other on walking into a shop or a bar, because they have been born and raised there and they know each other well. It is pleasant to go out first thing in the morning to witness the awakening of the town. It is still fresh. few people walk about and grouped children set ready for another day in school. As the day progresses, few more people walk about the handful of streets of the town. Some people say that is quality living. Yet, at one stage or another, people leave this town to cramp a city in search of a living. Some towns don’t even have a school and children have to walk into the next town to attend their classes and under all sorts of weather. In some of them there isn’t much to do except to walk about the place and step into a bar for a drink and some chat. These rural places are indeed good places to live in, but how isolated and apart they are from the places where decisions are taken. A way too quiet lifestyle can be as stressful as an hectic and urban one. It is only that they are at the other end of the rope.

There is such a thing as killing a person with kindness and this is exactly what a school is doing, in a metaphorical way, by refusing to correct their pupils' spelling mistakes.

Teachers at a school in England are purposely failing to correct spelling on their pupils’ work because they believe too much ‘red pen’ is damaging to pupils’ self-esteem.

I think there comes a point when enough is enough. We are living in a society which increasingly mollycoddles children to their own detriment. This is an example of this kind of behaviour in the extreme, but it is by no means an isolated case. We may as well kit out children in little cotton wool safety jackets as soon as they are born and have done with it.

The fact is, people seem to have forgotten that the only way children are going to grow and develop as human beings, is if they are put in situations where they have to overcome life’s little adversities. It is nothing but false kindness to fail to expose them to the most fundamental of school realities – a few black marks by their work.

The other issue is how are these children going to learn if they are not told where they are going wrong? This school, which has not been named, needs to realise it is not the correcting of spelling mistakes which will cause the upset, it is how the situation is dealt with from there.

If the child’s work is thrust back at them and the teacher barks that they must do better, then this is not going to do the child any good. If the child is shown where they went wrong and helped to improve with kind but proper instruction, then the child will greatly benefit.

We are living in a politically correct culture where no one wants to be seen to be stepping out of line, but if schools shirk away from the very reason they are there – to help educate pupils and enable them to grow as individuals – we are going to have a very stunted and ill-educated next generation.

Honor roles are a way of rewarding students for excellence in academics yet some schools are taking them away.

Do you remember primary school? Do you remember the pressure to be on the honor role? Apparently, so do the school administrators.

The powers that be have decided to eliminate the honor role from elementary schools (at least in our area). Now impressionable elementary students are learning that hard work and high marks are not going to be rewarded or even publicly recognized within the school. They are learning that it doesn’t really matter what kind of marks you get.

They are learning – mediocrity.

It’s in the younger years that children learn good study habits. They learn that excellence takes hard work and dedication but that you will be rewarded for that hard work. They learn that brains, drive and ambition will open doors in life. Most importantly, they learn that everyone is not willing to put in the time and effort it takes to succeed.

The reasoning behind removing the honor system in elementary school is to create equality. Administrators don’t want to see kids be disappointed if they don’t make the honor role. They want to keep students equal so there is no reward or recognition for excellence and the hard work that takes.

Well I’m sorry! Life is not fair and people are not treated equally.

It’s those people that work hard and push themselves towards a goal that will succeed in life. Having that target to reach for is what drives excellence. When you take away the target you take away the excellence.

If children are sad that they missed the honor role they will be more inclined to work harder to reach that goal.

I notice a big difference in the kids that went through school with the honor role system and those that didn’t. My oldest daughter worked hard to be on the honor role. She was always anxious to get her report card to see where she stood and at the end of the year when they handed out the medals for excellence she always felt like she deserved it and was proud. When she moved on to junior and senior high school she had strong study habits and a drive to achieve honors.

My second daughter was part of the honor role system for only one year but she too made the effort to make the honor role. By the time she reached Junior High though she had lost much of that drive. It took plenty of coaxing to get her focused again.

My son is another story. He was never part of the honor role system in elementary school. Throughout all of elementary he was content to just get by. He never studied. He would simply say “why bother, I passed”. Even though we rewarded excellence at home it is just not the same as a publicly recognized award. When he hit Junior High school where he could par take in the honor role rewards it was an uphill battle. He does only as much as he needs to, to make the honor role.

I blame this lack of drive on the loss of the honor role system in elementary.

I push my children hard to keep their grades up despite the lack of a public reward. Many parents don’t pay that close of attention to their children’s mark and don’t push for them to put more effort into school. Ultimately, it is up to the child to decide how much effort school is worth.

If the kids decide that marks mean nothing until high school when they start writing diploma exams with post secondary education in mind – it may already be to late.

Execllence in any area needs to be recognized and rewarded – at all ages. Our kids need that competitive edge if they hope to succeed in todays world. They need that drive and maybe they need to feel sad for a little while in order to find that drive.

Perhaps, instead of removing the honor role system to promote equality in elementary school teachers should put more effort into teaching and helping those kids that are struggling to get there grades higher. Don’t be telling kids its alright to have that 70% average, help them achieve that 80% average they are working for.

It's heartbreaking to read about a kid committing suicide because of bullying at school. We have always had bullying with us to some degree but with Facebook bullying follows the child from school to home. The child has no place that is safe from bullies. There is a way to stop it. Parents should be supervising their children and know what they are doing at school and on the social medias. Schools can be made safe for all children with programs in place at school and in the home to prevent it. It isn't just kid stuff. Bullying can mean life or death.

Bullying of kids at school and on social media is relentless. It’s a shame to our schools and the adults surrounding our children. Every school should have a required class that teaches kids not to bully and strong punishment should follow if it happens. Bullying should be the one thing that isn’t tolerated. Parents should also monitor their child’s Face book and Twitter. Children must be taught to respect every individual or stay away from them if they cannot. If your child has a Face book account, insist on being her friend. Keep an eye on how she conducts herself on line. Do the same for Twitter.

Talk to the child about how the other person feels that is made fun of and put down. Cyber bullying can be even worse than face to face bullying because it follows them home from school. If you see your child doing something to hurt another person. Stop it at once. Do not allow it on Face book or anywhere else. Give the punishment that fits the crime. Take away the computer for a month or something special the child is looking forward to. Let your child know that bullying will not be tolerated. If every parent followed that rule there would be no bullying. A young bully grows into an adult bully.

You might think your child is in his room doing homework but chances are they are also checking Face book and Twitter. In years past bullying usually tapered off after middle school but today cyberbullying continues on into high school and beyond. Teach you kids to leave a counteractive comment any time they see someone leaving a nasty one. That will help discourage bullies. Hurtful texts are very common and kids suffer from it. But the social media can also be a tool to stop bullying if used correctly. Teach your child to never contribute to the bullying of another child.

Some students think it’s fun to grab someones bookbag or other belongings, laugh at the way they dress or how they look, how much money they have, or any number of things. Teach you child better and see that it doesn’t happen. Don’t protect your child when he is the culprit. It’s your responsibility to keep your child on the right path. If you know your child or another child is being bullied at school, it’s your job to go to the school councilor and authorities to see that it stops. Parents are responsible for the conduct of their children, and mistreatment of other children if they have knowledge of it.

In Indonesian schools. students' school uniforms. The new school year 2012/2013.

A young boy in Indonesia with the elementary school uniform. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Clothing are basic human needs other than food and shelter (home). Humans need clothes to protect and cover himself. At first, humans use trees leather and animal skins as clothing materials, then use a spun yarn of cotton, wool and silk fabrics which are then used as clothing material. An outer garment which confirms our identity to the social environment. Clothing to be an effective media to show the status, position, power, lifestyle, gender, and even sex from time to time. The clothing of some functions can be concluded that the clothing is a separate system is very, very famous in the world today. As a result, this has created an effort to correspond with an understanding of the clothes themselves are competing with each other to communicate with the dress. Each group is vying to create ethical fashion to determine the class and specific meaning. And competing in the ethics of dress also occur in the educational environment, that is by creating a school uniform with a new style and color.
School uniform is an object that has been or will be used for approximately 12 years since our elementary through high school. At first the uniform came from European soil, specifically in the UK. At first uniform only for the military. However, over time, the uniform became popular in the scope of the organizations or institutions, including schools are educational institutions. School uniforms have a function as the identity of the school are usually distinguished by color and symbol. In addition, the uniform can improve student discipline, and eliminate social inequalities. In Indonesia alone, the use of uniforms for schools in general are divided by color. White top with red subordinates for elementary school children, white top and dark blue for junior subordinates, superiors and subordinates white and gray to high school. School uniforms have become oversized clothes students. Certainly the students want to get the best for their school uniforms, let alone from the side which is the fashion mecca of today’s youth.
With a fashion background, the students in the District Brass-do apply to the school to change their school uniforms. By reason of the aspirations of students and motivate students to learn, was the school the students are embracing a proposal to change the school uniform style and color, such as a Brass SMAN, SMAN 1 Cigugur, SMK Muhamaddiyah 2 Brass, SMAN 1 Kadugede, and SMK Model IV Patriot Ciawigebang. According to the Principal of SMAN 1 Brass, Drs. H. Kasiyo, M.Pd., that it does not intend to eliminate the gray and white uniforms, uniform with the new style is only used on Fridays and Saturdays. This is done because the students are saturated with gray and white uniforms. Saturation is caused by emotional turmoil students are always Demand that all things according to the times. The students argued that there is now less uniformly follow the times, alias zadul. Because of a bygone era to the present whose name is so-so only uniform, the design is creative and makes a uniform color saturation when worn. The new style uniform is provided directly by the school, and students buy uniforms in the cooperative student at prices varying between Rp 40000.00 to 75000.
At the beginning of school uniforms has the function to determine the limits of what can and can not be done by the students. But with this new style uniforms, the students felt there was nothing restricting it to do anything outside of school hours. After school they can directly shooping or just hanging out in a shopping center. The students argued “gaul uniform anyway, so good for a used hangout, if able to wear the uniform of this wrote, not the white ash!”, So the opinion of some students who were hanging out after school. Even according to the recognition of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Brass, it never caught students using the new style uniforms on Sunday to play or walk with friends. When asked, students said that their uniforms used to play for fun. This signaled a shift in values and functions of school uniforms. The shift function is due to the school uniform because the students feel unfettered and not have to wear school uniform load the new style. In stark contrast to when the students wear white ash, they feel frustrated because they feel confined, because they will be punished if there is an error in their uniforms.
However, the uniform is also a factor that can support effective learning in school. Fashionable uniforms that one brilliant idea to raise the spirits of students, which in turn can improve their performance. Indicate if the uniform does not kill diversity. With uniform can still be creative and you can still look stylish. And if all things are beginning to feel happy, then surely it would be better. Hopefully!

So, some of my teachers are idiots. Big ones. So I figure, why not help other people who also dno't want to deal with their idiot teachers who suceed in annoying them? This is MY School Survivial Guide For the Hated Teachers.

So, I realize as I sit here in my Spanish class that my Spanish teacher has no idea what the hell she is doing. First of all, she majored in FRENCH. Hello? I’m sitting here to learn Spanish from somebody who knows Spanish, not a person who knows French. So, then I thought, does anybody else have this problem? not even in just Spanish, in any class? I figure they must, and I am bored to tears, so I’m writing a guide for you. Kind of like Ned’s declassified….but in the form of destroying teachers you don’t like.

HOW TO DEAL WITH THEM

1. Well, if you’re still reading this, you clearly don’t like a teacher. So step one in dealing with them is quite simple: Let it be known that you don’t like them.

HOW TO DO THIS

Put your feet up on the seat in front of you and yawn. A LOT. Then, disregard all of her advice.

Don’t do your work. Let it go. If the teacher is old, tell them off because they lost it. Tell her every time that she tries to call on you that you don’t know the answer to that question because she is a terrible teacher

Make her feel like and idiot because she is one. And if you don’t mind getting a detention or something, you can really go far on this one

SO, in conclusion to this section, dealing with a teacher who gives you a lot of problems due to her immense amount of stupidity you must act like a bitch and tell her off to make sure that she stops and to get on her nerves.

HOW TO TURN THE TABLES

Teach them a lesson instead of them teaching you, because really, that’s no fun now is it?

Tell her that’s she’s wrong even when she’s right. Prove your point in a way that is stupidly realistic, so that she falls for it. If the rest of the people in the class don’t like her either, they’ll go along with you, and you’re golden. From that point on, make sure that she continues to give your far-fetched version of the answer for the rest of the year when she refers to the subject.

You leave when you want to, as long as the rest of the class goes to. Like, for example, my school has CAPTS so the schedule was a two hour delay schedule. For three days the Spanish teacher let us out on the freshmen lunch schedule: Ten minutes early. The last day, she changed the time to put the right one down. So, naturally we needed to change it. Eight people later, we didn’t get caught, the time didn’t get changed, but she still let us out early. Well, no not really. But she told us that we didn’t need to do anything for the next ten minutes because we were already packed up.

Just a side comment or two….. First of all, a few kids went to Spain for a school trip and the people in Spain that actually spoke Spanish; yes they said that they weren’t talking Spanish they were talking French. On top of that, a few papers were never corrected from Spanish class. Apparently our 80 year old teacher went flying around a corner and they flew right out of the window: Road rage?

In the next article:

How to piss them off

I’m taking suggestions for other sub-categories (comment with your idea, and I’ll probably go with it)

The rise of Big Brother...

In a recent article from the Triangle Free Press discussed the Republicans in North Carolina working to gradually remove all funding from public education and approving the introduction of charter schools in the state. Yet, one such school K-12, Inc., is actually based in Colorado, because North Carolina has no need to try and invest in North Carolina. Why would they? It makes sense to send another state such money.

But I digress.

It also seems that in the infinite wisdom of the Congress of NC, that through their “reforms” of the education system, the state of North Carolina is now 49th in the nation for per pupil spending. Outstanding job there guys! Keep up the good work. Maybe we can let you be in charge of the military spending, and cut that down to where we only have two soldiers per city and a tank for every state. And we can have a singular plane that hasn’t been flown since the 1970’s!

What’s wrong with you people! You’re not suppose to cut spending to schools! That’s how we get idiots, and there’s way to many of them in this country already due to the cuts you’ve already made. And of course, liberal education, why should we have that? Students…thinking outside of the box….How absurd? They might come up with new ideas, and better ways of living. And who would want that?

And it probably wouldn’t be so bad, if it wasn’t so apparent that these guys in the GOP are relying on the fruits of their cutting of the education system, to dumb down the general population in order to have their ideologies and political theories accepted by a large group of people. Look at the media, both left and right. It’s not even news anymore, it’s just entertainment used to satisfy the dulled minds of this generation. And it’s not just in the news. Look at Bravo, that channel used to have opera suited for children so they could be exposed to arts and culture. Now look at it, it’s filled with models and bimbos. Congrats guys, you’re now media whores. You should be proud.

And why is this Orwellian you may ask? I’ll tell you. You ever read ANIMAL FARM? If you haven’t then pick up a copy, it’s a great book. And if you have then you can see similarities with the dumbing of the people to the pigs dumbing the animals in order to secure their hold on them. And by pigs, I mean swine, though the GOP is starting to act pretty similar to their literary counterparts.

And how on earth is taking money away reforming a system? You don’t remove the means to better the problem. You add more to it. Unless you’re a person who has no idea how public funding works, or with the idea that better educated people have better/higher paying jobs (WHICH MEANS THEY PAY HIGHER TAXES!!!) then you can see just how much of a bad idea this is. I came from the LAUSD, and they had books for American History where the books stopped at the Kennedy Assasination and that Viet-Nam was gonna be a great success for America…..Yeah that is bad. Thank you Reagan.

Long Story short, this defunding of schools is a bad idea. A very bad idea. Like let’s piss off the bear just to see how mad we can make it bad.

Teens need acceptance and attention. Most teens join gangs because they are lacking a father figure or they are just being rebellious.

Teens are feeling left out and want to be accepted. Many come from broken homes and long for their father’s to come around and show that they care. They often experience seperation because their father is in prison or just abondoned the family. This is not saying that the mother is not doing her job but she needs help with the teen or teens. Keeping teenagers on the right track is not easy and they need attention. They will go to teh streets and get in all sorts of trouble just to feel important. When they meet up with the gang leader they begin to admire this person, although the gang leader is involved in numerous troubles. The gang leader is seen as a father figure and then the chaos begins. The teen becomes so out of control and follows every instruction from his father figure. In the teenager’s mind him or her thinks that the leader cares and understands what he or she has been through. The gang surrounds the teen and instructs the teen to display violent behavior. The mother has tried to gain her teenage son or daughter attention but in most cases fail to do so. The teen becomes infatuated with his new family and this can be deadly. With his or her acceptance generates drive by shootings, robbery, assaults, and sexual assaults. It is sad that many teens fall prey to gangs and some never leave their new found home.

Gangs are filled with violence and destructive behavior. Keeping teens away from them can be a challenge but it can be done. Try talking to your teen and finding them positive role models. Spend time with them and know who their friends are. Don’t nag them about every move they make but be involved. Teens are very impressionable so be very careful how you approach them. They just want attention and feel that a gang will give that to them. Teach that violence is never acceptable and the streets have no rules. The gang life is never a good place for a teen or an adult for that matter. Encourage them to live their dreams and get an education. If you have any contact with the father (s) ask them to spend time with the teen (s) and this will help them stay close to home.

Gangs recruit and if they see your teen roaming around as if they lost their best friend, than boom. They will encourage the teens to follow their destructive path. Gangs will not encorage the teen to go to school or be respectful to ther parent (s). We should embrace our teens and show them that they are very important to the world. Tell them that they can make it whether they have a father around or not. We don’t want our teens to fall prey to gangs and we must inform the schools when we suspect that their is gang activity. Love and respect the teens decision when they are positive and always discourage negative behavior.
