Did the college students making a video get misunderstood?

College Students Misunderstood?

NBC Connecticut ran an article on the ‘UConn Rape Video’ which is causing major outcry throughout the whole campus. The TV station on campus that is controlled by the students pulled the video, not to long after it was played on the air. The video was said to ‘promote rape culture’. A lot of protests over the video have started and students writing articles to the TV station. The video is mocking, degrading to women, sexual assault victims and survivors. The video in itself is dehumanized towards women, hence questions why a woman would even be in a video like this? Some might say that getting mad over a video like this is foolish and one should not take this to heart so much. Why are people making fun of rape on this campus?

Ok, the video thought of and made by men, of course creates a problem. This society in general is a ‘rape society’. Some people are going to get mad because I said this and that’s ok, you have your own opinion. It is a male dominated society where people, especially women are taught and brain washed to be the victim. As men, we don’t walk around ever wondering if we will be attacked. There is no need for men to go out to clubs, making sure to bring our friends for protection because something might happen. Men don’t get afraid of walking to their car at night in a dark alley wondering if someone is around. Men at a party don’t have to worry about getting something put in their drinks to drug them and then get raped, beaten or even killed. I think you might be getting the point?

As far as this matter goes, men can say all they want, but will never understand what women go through on a daily basis. Heck, men always complain they don’t know or understand women anyway, so there you go. Imagine a man trying to understand a little bit about sexual assault towards a woman. I am not saying all men don’t understand nor doesn’t care about this subject because there are a lot of good men out there that care a lot have experience of different sorts pertaining to this subject. Everyone’s experiences in this matter are different. I care a great deal about this topic and others considering I have had experience with abuse on women in my family. Any negative portray of demoralizing of any person should never be tolerated. Like I always say, what would that person do that is making the demoralizing remark, tape, article, etc if a situation arisen where they were attacked themselves? Everybody as a plan, until they get hit!

There should be some legal action against the people that made this video that’s for sure, but probably will not happen. One good thing about the video is it brought out in the open a sensitive subject that will be heard loudly all over the campus and with the social media, around the world. Something like this should not be taken lightly. I am sure the parents of the students on this campus will be taking a large role in this as well. On a college campus there has to be a level of respect towards all the students. Students, especially women should not have to feel afraid walking around the campus at night or at parties. This spark that ignited on campus will bring about major change. Everything will be addressed from the security officers, school campus, the teachers, etc. I am sure all this detail will be brought out to the open and clearly looked at regarding the ‘safety’ of it. This will bring the women on campus more closely together and empowered to bring forth the change needed to bring more equality to this campus.

The plan truth about education today and what every parent should know.

The upside-down pyramid is the best way to begin a discussion about the education system in the United States. We could call it, No Child’s Behind Left, but that would be sarcastic wouldn’t it? No let’s just call it what it is, an upside-down pyramid. You see, in the school system the way it is set up, is the same thing as the nurse or better yet the office manager in a Doctor’s office making the diagnosis. They then tell the Doctor, who is the hands on professional, what to do and what not to do even though they are the trained ones with the most expertise in the given area. Do you get it yet? The Administration of schools whose real job is to be a liaison between the community and the teacher’s giving the teacher’s more time to teach, actually believe they are some kind of teacher managers when in fact they need to be office managers and community workers. The teachers who you have been told by the media and the government are at fault when it comes to the test scores, are not making the diagnosis and therefore the administrative ideas about how to teach are about as good as the medical office secretaries when it comes to cancer. In other words, the office managers are actually telling the teacher’s how to teach! Now ask again why the students are not successful? The professionals are not in the classroom enough and are not able to prepare with enough time to meet the very complicated and individual needs children of various backgrounds within the same class room. “No Child Left Behind” has destroyed what was left of a dying system, and if they don’t get this straight I predict it will take 12 to 20 years to get back to a system where we will have students who can write, read, do mathematics, be creative and maybe even invent something. As we stand, we have high school students who don’t write because they can’t, can’t pass math classes or read for English. They can’t tell time on a clock face and they don’t know how to capitalize and punctuate anything, period. You may be saying that some children always had problems like these and schools will always have children with these kinds of educational deficiencies, but I am not talking about special education students or general education student’s I am talking about College Prep student’s. How do I know? I am a teacher and taught for over 15 years in elementary school and high school. Students don’t do homework because they refuse. Parents back the student’s and want teachers to pass them anyway. The Brady bunch that runs things not knowing what to do, and always avoiding law suits at all cost, side with the parents. Granted, and thank goodness, we still have some students and parents who get it, but they are the minority. It is a no brainer, and you would think that the education system and the upper level wizards would see this clearly, but they don’t, and that is why it is so scary! The government is no help and continues to tell you the schools are doing better and No Child behind Left, oh I am sorry I mean “No Child Left Behind”, has been a success. What a crock. If you believe that give me a call, I have a bridge for sale! I don’t think it is fair of me to just put them down so I am going to spend a few pages here explaining how and why this is happening. Please be sure to let me know somehow if after reading this chapter you are even more confused as to how in the world a whole country with 50 different states and a federal government overseeing things can’t see what is as plan as the nose on their faces. It is true that the best place to hide something is in plain sight, but you will soon understand why I have the nerve to call these so called professionals who run this stuff, idiots. If you can come up with a better definition for them after reading this chapter, please let me know! I am a teacher and I am telling you that my hands are tied tight when it comes to teaching the student’s. Let’s just start by saying that when they took away tenure for teachers, they may have been able to get rid of some bad ones, but it also caused them to be able to get rid of the good ones and hire less experienced ones for less money. Then they had no choice but to make one of the biggest and costly mistakes due to the fact that the new young teachers needed more training which made them have to mandate courses and in-service classes for teachers. Now, understand I am not saying is not good to share new approaches to teaching, in fact we all do as teachers, and that has not changed. What has is that they put so much pressure on the teacher to go to more school, that the teacher has little time for planning to teach. When they are in the classroom they have to teach something, so they teach what is on the test and do not have time to do otherwise. When they are in-between classes they are putting in grades or writing reports. When they are home they have to do their own homework or they won’t pass the mandated courses. The courses are used for recertification and if they are not passed with a B in some cases the teacher can lose the certification, and can’t teach. This includes your best and most experienced teachers. You see, the idiot’s made the mandated courses and in-services become the teacher’s priority. They want to hear that the students learning are the priority, but it can’t be. The teacher can only teach if all of their class work is done, and passed. Therefore I don’t think I have to spell it out for you, the teachers have a lot to do before even thinking about planning for a class full of students. Now, if that isn’t enough to convince you, think about the fact that teachers have to already be college graduates and can teach up to high school level in their sleep. Most have Masters Degrees and some others Doctorates, but the good old Brady Bunch believes they need more school. Is it me or what? On top of this the administrations don’t want to go to the same courses and yet they know better working in their offices what a child needs then the Doctor’s, sorry, Teachers know. Now let’s go a step further. Let’s look at salaries. I recently heard some media experts that I believe are for the most part honest and fair, but what they were saying was dead wrong when it comes to teacher’s and unions as well as salaries and retirement packages. First of all did you ever see the cost of even a state college education? They run for about $60,000 to around $160,000. The government allows that but I find it strange that a teacher whose job depends on not only four years of college, but of many more only gets paid around $34,000 to start. On the other hand in South Carolina they only pay some with a Doctorate around $55,000. I don’t even want to get into how much a teacher with a Doctorate spends on education and how many years’ salary is spent on it. By the way another side reason that teaching students cannot be the priority is due to the fact that most teachers’ need part time jobs to put food on a table or pay for an apartment. Did you ever think about the fact that the government stays very quiet when it knows that there are some states such as South Carolina that continue what I call a slave mentality? They pay unbelievably low salaries for high education folks in all areas of business. The government should make businesses pay at least what it cost

for the education you paid for in order to be in that line of work. If you want a Master’s degree candidate for the job, then damn it, pay Master’s degree salaries. Now that may be a little off topic, but it is part of the education truth. Do you know that I have Assistant Vice President level experience in business management and am a nationally clinically certified Criminal justice specialist and counselor, yet the school system idiot’s sat around a table one day and said that I can’t be an administrator because I did not take two or three courses for administration while taking the courses for my education degree? They actually hire inexperienced college kids and believe they can be administrators, when I can’t even though I started and built nonprofit business in three nations, with an international ministry, taught management training to Nurses and Doctors in in- patient programs, created the Failsafe program for children including the homebound school section, and educated teachers in the second largest school system in the country, Broward County Florida, in management for classrooms and Behaviors. Did I mention I can’t be a guidance counselor because I don’t have two courses even though I am a nationally Certified Clinical Counselor, with years of experience with the most violent of offenders? At this point I want you to take a minute and think about what I said about it being a no brainer that no states or government officials see. I will ask you again, is it me or are they Idiots?

Number (1) Ponzi-es where people got swindle of thousands and Millions in past but still thriving through our country, the Federal Government don’t have enough honest officials to go through all the red tapes that have being created in past years. Even so when they catch up to crooks it is almost impossible to lock up these scums’s, because of our judicial system that is design to penalized victim and protect “Criminal” in many instances other than in ponzi-es.

Number (2) we have Cops which have being jailed for they dirty deeds and are put Disability pension of $3400.00 (round of) per month, and it needless to say since he is on disability he is also getting medical benefits, place is Police Department Hasbrouck Heights NJ.

Number (3) Social Security; some official’s claim it will run out of money in near future. However these crooks are not saying anything that social security is being used for everything, practically even for their extra curricular activity. There is equal number of children receiving Social Security that should be on welfare paid by us all, but that don’t sit right with Rich.

Number (4) Top echelons in many institutions getting outrageous salaries; Wall Street Crooks, Schools from High to Universities; Principals, Superintends, Sept.11 Officials, and list can goes on and on. This people over paid not by hundreds but in thousands, Port Authority don’t even go there.

Number (7) Equality Marriage; that some people like to call it

And would like to compare it with Civil Right movement of 1950-60. How there you! If you want have sex with same sexes ponder it that is you civil right, but that again if we all want our civil right we can include being prostitute, have as many spouses as want wish, choose to leave or die. Marriage is between Man and Woman, unless you want to become

The article describes the importance of economic management and education in Australia.

Education is important as it provides people with the skills that they need to build a future for themselves and their family. Schools have developed learning objectives to achieve their desired outcomes across the country. State and private schools are expected to achieve specific targets to meet their funding requirements. According to Peter Meadmore (2004) schools have become business oriented at the expense of a providing students with a quality education. Teachers are concerned that they are being hindered in their attempt to do what they are trained to do. He suggests that schools are often results driven as they compete for more resources and facilities for their students.

Schools have become autonomous enterprises as they determine their own budgets as well as the need for future funding. They plan building projects and modern technology to help them grow over time. Managers employ staff based on their reputation to help create a place where students will want to learn and improve their prospects. Meadmore (2004) suggests that learning institutions adopted a hierarchical approach as a way organising them. He suggests that government departments and school boards determine what is taught as well as how it is taught.

Curriculums are designed to teach people what the authorities consider they should be taught. Teachers consider that they have little power to alter the material, yet they have the knowledge and skills to know what is appropriate for children and what is not. In conclusion schools and other learning institutions are expected to deliver on pre-determined objectives to justify the funding that they receive from the government.

The article describes the relationship between governance and education in Australia.

Modern Australians often take it for granted that education is the key to success in society, yet that has not always been the case as history reveals a very different story from the one that they are led to believe. According to Gordon Tait (2006) education developed as people began to appreciate its importance in society. Australia was considered to be a convenient place to send criminals and forget about them knowing that they would likely perish on the way to their new existence. Colonial backwaters such as Australia were not intended to progress beyond their intended status as a convict outpost for the undesirable criminal class. Key words such as management, authority, schooling, hierarchy and discipline were used to emphasise

Tait’s view does not reflect the rosy image that Australia was a land of equality and opportunity for everyone no matter who they were. He suggests that education was used to keep the masses under control in an unruly land. The British authorities reluctantly recognised the need to provide people with technical skills to turn the settlement into a thriving community. Education divided the have and the have not’s in society as only children from wealthy families could attend school regularly as they were not needed at home.

The authorities considered that children needed more than just the simple education that they received at home. The government decided that it needed to create model citizens and the only way to do that was to cleanse their souls from their parent’s poor habits. Discipline was needed to build a nation and only a solid education would achieve that objective. Tait (2006) suggests that punishment was necessary as it taught people to think and act as society wished them to. In conclusion education was and still is used to discipline people and encourage them to think as the authorities determine that they should.

"No Child Left Behind" was meant to push teachers into insuring that all children learned, passed all tests, and wouldn't be left behind to repeat the same grade. It did sound like a good plan, but it hasn't worked. Classes were dumbed down for poor learners. Teachers have been pressed hard. Their time in the class room is a rigid set of rules. They must drill students daily in math and reading so slow learners pass standard tests. No students can be held back and schools are failing at a greater rate than ever before. Government has not provided the resources they promised. It's time to hand the schools back to the states and get on with learning.

The “No Child Left Behind” was signed into law by George W. Bush on Jan. 8, 2002. It was a shift into accountability for schools. The plan seemed to be a perfect plan for school children who were held back because of low test scores. There would be rules to follow and no excuses for failure. Some were fearful of depriving states of the control they had always held over schools, but it still seemed the best plan to enact education reform.

The plan began to erode almost at once. Schools were forced to dumb down their standards to ensure their schools abide by NCLB’s rigid rules. Eight months after the law was in place, the Department of Education released it’s first report of failing shcools, nearly 9,000 schools were named, and they were not just inner city schools. There were failures at suburban schools where high grade majorities had masked the low achievment of minorities.

States were on the defensive. They were embarrassed and angry. They were creative. Utah and Ohio removed the more difficult questions on the statewide exams and refined how schools were judged to be failing. Failing schools dropped from 760 to 200. Other states followed suit. More than 20 states banded together, urging Congress to exempt them from the law. In addition to forcing states to release annual scores, the National Assessment of Education is often called the nation’s report card, testing samples of fourth and eighth graders every two years to compare students progress in states that have different standards.

There is no consquence for not learning and the students know it, says superintendant John Dale. If students fail the reading or math test, the school might not let them play in the band, but they wont be held back a year or forced to attend summer school. The worst thing is when students have questions and interests and the teacher has to say, “We don’t have time to talk about that.” There is little time for students to pursue any special interests or electives.

NCLB was supposed to find schools that were truely failing their students. The government would direct more resources to help the schools turn around, or shut them down. Neither happened and now even people who wrote the law thinks the law needs to be replaced. It has hurt rather than helped students. Deficiencies have been known from the beginning. The law decreed that 100% of students must be proficient in reading and math by 2014 but did nothing to help schools reach that goal. NCLB is a law that everyone knows isn’t working, but it lingers, neglected where it will stay, at least until after this year’s election.

A very factual article proving that Legalizing Marijuana would benefit the economy.

Do you recall stories of Boarder Agents finding tunnels with up to 32 tons of marijuana that was being trafficked into the United States? The only reason why those tunnels exist is because of the United States’ policy on Marijuana. If the government held Marijuana to the same standards as tobacco or alcohol, it would be grown here privately and not smuggled into the Country by criminals.

This article is a small sample of things that would change if Marijuana was decriminalized.

An American Citizen is charged for a Marijuana related crime every 30 seconds. There were 1,663,582 marijuana related arrests in 2009 (13.0 percent of the total arrests in 2009)

“The U.S. federal government spent over $15 billion dollars in 2010 on the War on Drugs, at a rate of about $500 per second.” Said drugsense.org

Can you believe that? That would cost the Fed 1.5 trillion over the next 100 years. And that’s just at the Federal level; local governments also spend money cracking down on Marijuana. This requires larger police forces, larger jails, and of course, the problem of people being locked up for possessing a dried flower.

Additionally, if you didn’t stop at decriminalization, and allowed for it to be sold under local restrictions like alcohol and tobacco, the expected tax revenue federally would be 6.2 billion annually. That’s 0.62 trillion in 100 years… That equals a 2.1 trillion federal savings over 100 years, without counting inflation.

That 2.1 trillion could be used to help pay for our huge debt, and help balance budgets for States and other local governments. And I’m not including the commercial and tax benefits of Hemp, that’s a separate but similar issue. Because Marijuana “Cannabis” is the drug, and Hemp, a rope like byproduct derived from Marijuana that cannot be used as a drug… The economic benefits of Hemp are much larger than Cannabis, because it is likely to replace cotton as the main material for fabric, replace trees for paper, as ass produce more than 5000 other products. (To learn more about Hemp, Read http://socyberty.com/issues/10-things-you-didnt-know-about-hemp/ )

In conclusion, decriminalizing Marijuana would have many great benefits for our economy, people, and environment.

The legal case that ended segregation in public schools.

The Brown vs. the Board of Education of Topeka, KS was a legal case that ended segregation in public schools. The Brown vs. the Board of Education was the collection of five cases (Kansas, Delaware, South Carolina, Virginia and the District of Columbia) that were brought together under one name. The case was brought to the Supreme Court by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) (NPS, 2011). According to the Library of Congress, “the NAACP Legal Defense Fund assembled a team of experts, including John A. Davis, a professor of political science at Lincoln University, Mabel Smythe, an economist, and psychologist Kenneth Clark, and scholars John Hope Franklin, C. Vann Woodward, and Horace Mann Bond, to conduct research,” (2010). Research conducted by Kenneth and Mamie Clark proving that segregation negatively impacted the personalities of young African American students by causing them to feel inferior and have a sense of self hatred was the driving force of the NAACP’s case (Library of Congress, 2010). After years of fighting the ‘equal but separate’ public school systems a ruling outlawing segregation was finally reached in 1954.

Scotland is an ancient country with a bloody past. But throughout it all the Scottish Gaelic language has somehow managed to survive although it is now in danger of becoming extinct so what can be done about it?

So Gaelic is disappearing fast from Scotland but what can be done to save it?

Well the Scottish government can introduce Gaelic into all nurseries and primary schools for a start. Not only will this open up the language to a new generation it will also create more jobs.
As French is now compulsory in most high schools up until third year, I think this should be replaced with Gaelic. Of course we can’t force people to continue learning after they choose their own subjects but by making Gaelic classes interesting and appealing we could maybe entice students to stay on in their studies of the language.

Also for people who aren’t in school anymore there should be local classes at colleges or, alternatively in rural areas at the local primary school. These classes would probably have to be paid for, but I think the prices should be fairly low, maybe £5 a week? So people who are interested in learning the language don’t feel its too much to pay.

But why should we learn Gaelic?

Well i started learning the language at age 13 and i only studied it for about 3 or 4 years. I remember most things, especially subjects that would crop up in basic conversation. Whereas I studied French for 6 years from age 8 to 13/14 and now barely remember how to say my name! My point is that the complicated sounds of Gaelic make it easier to remember once you’ve learnt it.
Also there is a raise in demand for Gaelic. Gaelic teachers are like gold dust. In high demand but hard to find. There is also a growing demand in Gaelic speakers in the Media, especially after the birth of BBC Alba.
Not only that but Gaelic plays a big part of Scottish Heritage what with all the Gaelic poems, songs and music. Scottish music is absolutely gorgeous add in the Gaelic and it adds a mysterious beauty to the song. It makes it almost eerie as it brings a sense of magic with all these “odd” sounding words. It also gives us a glimpse of the past as some Gaelic songs are over 100 years old.

I say we protect our Language, with it we are perserving a part of our culture and history which would be sorely missed.
