Every new year, people have long list of resolutions to make a change for the better but they are just good in a week or so then back again to what they are.

This is very common to almost all who want to have a change. They will have a long list of what they want to change as the new year starts but most of them were not able to fulfill it. To me, I don’t need a new year’s resolution because everyday is a new day to make a change. If you really want to improve your self, you don’t need to wait for the beginning of the year to make a change. You can help improve yourself anytime of the year. Everybody wants to have a new beginning as what they said when the year starts but in a few weeks they are still the same.

Everyday you can make your resolution and do it. It is just a matter of choice and chance to improve ourselves in a daily basis. Determination plus hard work with focus to achieve what we want is the motivating factor that could bring success. Frustration is a part of life and we always encounter it along the way as we struggle to reach our goals in life specially if our expectations are high but we will not dwell on the frustrations, we will focus on the success that we can attain along with our strong determination to have it.

I don’t need a new year’s resolution and am sure you don’t either because anytime of the year, you can do something to improve yourself. Don’t wait for the beginning of the year to make a change that you want in your life. Everyday, is a chance to do something good for yourself and for others.

For you out there, don’t wait for the new year to change what you want to improve in your life. Do it every single day. Good luck.

In life, the stops are just as important as going through the motions.

It was Socrates who once said that : “The unexamined life is not worth living.”

Image via Wikipedia

In a world accustomed to instant gratification and a seeming obsession for speed or getting things done in a split second, people forget about the essentials of daily living and life itself. We’re like mice who think they are getting things done by keeping that wheel spinning, always running frantically, but not really getting anywhere. It’s easy to fall into that trap in the work place and even at home. Some may think that as long as everybody seems busy, so long as everyone seems to be scurrying around, everything is going well, that a lot of work is being done. Sometimes, we think we are productive if we keep ourselves occupied. That may not always be the case. Sometimes, we do the unnecessary tasks, thinking they’re important but they’re not. And then we end up exhausted, burned out, too tired to go on.

In life, the stops are just as important as going through the motions. When we work, we get things done, or not. Sometimes, we do things over and over until we get things right. But we also need to give ourselves a break. Working without resting is actually counter productive. In between doing something, or maybe at the end of the day, we need to pause and think. We need to evaluate ourselves before we retire for the day.

Some questions that are worth asking ourselves on a regular basis would be:

What important thing did I accomplish today? Have I done what I’m supposed to do?

How was this day better than the previous ones?

Am I doing things right or are there better ways to get things done?

What lessons or values did I learn from doing my work at the office or at home?

Did I have the opportunity to help someone in need or inspire someone to be better?

Is there a habit that needs to be changed or developed?

Have I become a better person or did I simply rush through the day, oblivious of those around me?

Do I still love what I do? What motivates me to do my job?

Am sure we could think of a whole lot more questions to ask ourselves. What’s important is that we don’t let each day pass without examining ourselves. We cannot afford to be indifferent if we expect to get the most out of this journey called life.

Advice on how to handle disagreements in a relationship.

Having a fight with your significant other is never fun. You both are practically yelling to the mountains high and the valleys low about who’s wrong and who’s right. What does it matter? You’re both adults, and chances are, you’re both wrong and you’re both right. However, at some point, one of you has to stop playing the victim and admit your wrongs in hopes of making things right.

No one likes to be told they’re wrong about anything that they feel strongly about. Unfortunately, in relationships, self-evaluation is a must. When you stand accused of something, step back and examine what you may have done to make the other person feel and think the way they do. If you’re mature enough, try asking the person what it is that you have done, and be genuinely receptive to what they are saying. Observe their body language. If they are throwing their hands all over the place with their eyes to the sky, thats a sign of aggravation. Clearly, your significant other is aggravated by your behavior. Show signs that you are listening to them with an occasional nod of your head or by making direct eye contact with them. Maybe place your hand on theirs if the disagreement isn’t too heated.

After hearing them out, ask if you may be excused for some quiet time to think about what they have said. Go for a walk or a short drive. Explain to them that you aren’t trying to avoid the issue, you simply need time to self-evaluate so that you can come to a compromise. If your significant other objects to this or shows signs of having a problem with it, then that is a sure sign that their are more issues that they aren’t talking about, like their own insecurities, for example. If this is the case, simply go into another room, or, if you’re out and about, suggest going to a movie. Choose a movie that you don’t care about, but they do. That way, they’ll be occupied and it’ll be easy for you to tune everything out and tune into your thoughts. I know it sounds a bit harsh, but hey…most of the time, it works.

If you find yourself having to repeat this process on a frequent basis and your significant other is always taking the victim stance, then it may be time for you to share your methods with them and suggest they self-evaluate themselves. If they become offended with the idea, then maybe they aren’t ready for a mature, responsible relationship. A new issue has now surfaced and you’re going to have to tell yourself, honestly, whether or not you feel you and your significant other should even be together. Make a list of all the good things about your lover on a sheet of paper. The next day, take that same sheet of paper and make a list of all the bad things about your lover on the back side. If the bad outweighs the good, well…if may be time to say goodbye. Allow your significant other one more chance to self-evaluate themselves. If they refuse once more and turn the issues in the relationship back on to you, it’s time to say goodbye.

On a happier note, if they choose to self-evalute, chances are, the relationship is headed in a very positive direction. Although the disagreements will not stop (you are both human and no one is perfect), you will notice that they will become easier to deal with and will happen less often, leaving more room for loving and less room for silent treatments.

I have been working four years in several companies. I discovered that there are some good improvement in my personality. Through the use of online tests, I discovered my personality types.

This evaluation shows the development on my personality due to the work experiences after graduated from college. Work experiences have a great great impact on the improvement on my personality. Several personality tests results show that there are great discoveries about my core strengths and weaknesses. I used the written self-scored and online personality tests to collect my personal data about my personality.

Myers Briggs Test Results

According to the self-scored Myer Briggs personality test results, I am an ISFP type. An ISFP personality type is quiet, friendly, responsible, and conscientious. This personality type is committed and steady in meeting the obligations. You may consider this personality type as loyal and considerate. This personality type also notice and remember the specifics of the important people within the company or family members. This type strive to create an orderly fashion and harmonious environment at work and at home. The personality type is also individualistic; probably need space and freedom to do their things in their own way, and learn best on hands-on training. This personality type enjoys slower pace; dislike theory unless there is an practical application to observe. Dislike routine but will perform them if necessary. Service oriented and driven to help other people in the work place.

Keirsey Temperament Personality Test Results

I am working as an administration staff, and I applied two personality types in the work environment. These are ISFJ and ISTJ personality types.

ISFJ personality type is highly observant and aware of people’s feelings and reactions. This personality type will work long and hard to see that jobs get done. Stable, practical, down to earth who dislike working with theory and abstract thought. This personality type is also uncomfortable with conflict and confrontation. ISFJ type is moderately closed to ISFP type.

ISTJ type is highly sociable who involved in community service organization and enjoy social gatherings. ISTJ tends to be shy and uncomfortable in large public, which shows this personality type is plain and down to earth. ISTJ type can be hard-nosed about the need of the following rules in the work place, and do not hesitate to report irregularities to the proper authorities, which is often misjudged as hard hearted.

Conclusion

My personality type could be INFJ, which is my dominant function is intuition. Highly observant with different perspective of the surrounding by using imagination, which can be considered to have a long term vision. In short, I am a Genuine Idealist. My emotional IQ test result is 128, which indicates my ability to perceive what others are feeling, and my greatest emotional strength is perception, which is driven by curiosity. I am also a TYPE 4 personality according to Enneagram personality tests results, which shows I am introspective and romantic type. I am also amiable and expressive, which focus on relationship, logical and systematic.

RECOMMENDATION:

I should take some risks and be assertive. I also should try to balance my dual communication skills. Check first the important details and stay calm. Learn to focus or concentrate better on important facts. I will try to see criticisms as an opportunity for me for growth and face my weaknesses by honoring my true self, expressing my own feelings, and be accountable for myself. I will be patient and generally content. Having inner motivation and pleasant mood in accepting trivial mistakes and problem – solving attitude about major mistakes. In short, I would be more flexible and good team player in the work place.

This is all about rediscovery of oneself through helping other people.

I’ve learned that in order to mature into adulthood it is necessary to discover myself and who I am. The odd thing is it did not come from within me but from an outside source. While helping mentor elementary students in my spare time I’ve begun to discover myself, my limitations and expectations. The community service program has given me the opportunity to do so. Working as a community worker helps me to build self confidence and character.

It takes sacrifice in order to gain something. Helping others takes personal sacrifice and without that then it is impossible to appreciate what I’m doing. I sacrifice two hours of sleep in the morning to feel and smell the chill of the brisk morning air while waking into their domain. The loud pop! of the buses releasing pressure when they put on the break to drop the children off is always a nice wake up call. The many drear-eyed first periods I spend bobbing my head, fighting to stay awake are well worth the sound of a laughing child early in the morning.

These sacrifices have given me a commitment not only to my pals but to myself as well. I need to set a good example so their impressionable minds understand the difference between right and wrong. Being committed and showing up every morning is a task in itself, the loud buzz of an alarm ringing in my ear and seeing the light green glow of 6:45 a.m. is reason enough to smack the snooze button and drift back into a deep, peaceful sleep in a warm, comfortable be. It is the commitment of getting out of bed and driving to the school at this hour that proves to your pals that you are there for them and that builds not only my character but there’s as well.

The confidence I’ve gained throughout this has made me a stronger person. If there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that if I can lead and handle a group of loud, wild elementary students then a group of teammates on my baseball team should be a cake walk. Not only does it build my self confidence, but the children’s as well, which is essentially the main goal. It makes me proud helping out in the community and gives my self-worth a boost.

The community service program in our community was created to help guide the youth of today in the right direction, this goal is being achieved for elementary students and for the mentors, both groups are learning from one another and learning about themselves, which is a win/win situation for everyone involved. That is why I’m proud to be a member and mentor of this organization.
