The man accused of plotting the September 11 attacks in the United States, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, at the hearing in themilitary prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

With a long beard, sat a row of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed with four other defendants. They appeared in public for the first time in three years.

“The prosecution is ready to begin in the case of Khalid SheikhMohammed,” the prosecutor said Brigadier General Mark Martins on Saturday (5/5).

But Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who admitted planning the September 11 attacks with hijacked planes, refused to answer any questions the judge. Sheikh Mohammed asked the judge if satisfied with the militarylawyers and civilian lawyers.

“I’m sure Mohammed would rejectthe trial. I’m sure he’s very concerned about the fairness factor in the trial,” said civilian lawyer, David Nevin.

The new regulations Judge James Pohl warned it will not allow the defendant to block the proceedings and will continuethe hearing without the participation of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

“The defendant can not choose not to participate and interfere with the trial process,” said Pohl.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and fourother defendants face various charges, among them the dakwan in 2976 murder case.

The first trial with the defendant Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was stopped when Barack Obama took office as president. President Obama wants to replace the military courts to civilian courts, but the effort wasthwarted by the opposition in Congress.

However the trial in military courts are now bound by the new regulations, including prohibiting the use of evidence obtained from the interrogation through torture.

“If convicted, the five defendants may be sentenced to death,” the Defense Department in a press release.

the others are Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarak Bin ‘Attash, Ramzi Binalshibh, Ali Abdul Aziz Ali and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al Hawsawi.

The charges allege that the five are “responsible for planning and executing the attacks of September 11, 2001 in New York, Washington and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, which resulted in the deaths of 2,976 people,” the statement said.

The five were accused of “terrorism, hijacking, conspiracy, murder in violation of the law of war, attacking civilians, attacking civilian objects, intentionally causing injury and destruction of property in violation of the law of war. The authority should have sent all the charges for trial together. “Such authority, the Office of Military Commissions, sent the charges to capital military commission, according to the Pentagon.

“Each of the five defendants, in addition to defense counsel, legal counsel has learned, have specialized knowledge and experience in death penalty cases to avail themselves of the assistance in his defense,” according to the Pentagon.

The chief judge of the military commission attend another military judge in the case, and instruct them five charges at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, within a period of 30 days.

Interesting movie about what happens when young kids working at the Statue of Liberty lose their job in the wake of attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001.  If you ever watched A Walk To Remember (2002), you will immediately recognize Al Thompson, the token Black character from that film.

Well times have changed since that film, and Al Thompson has served as a casting director and a producer since that time.  In this film, he plays a young man struggling to get through trying circumstances, pursued by recruiters for the Army that eventually catch up with him deferring his ambitions to go to college and make something out of himself.  The war changes him, and he is not the same man coming out as he was going in, as he deals with mental issues.

The film portrays recruiters in an extremely negative light, manipulating the emotions of young kids that are caught in difficult situations, even lying about the fact that they may have to go to war in Iraq.  While that might be true, the film seems to have an anti-war, anti-military bias.  It is characteristic of films shot in the the last decade, anti-establishment, questionably unpatriotic, but it does give you a lot to think about.

The design, by a Dutch architectural company, is part of a flagship project to develop a major new site in central Seoul.

The PR chief at the Yongsan Development Company, Seo Hee-seok, said the accusation was a shock.

“When I heard that, I was totally surprised, and bewildered,” he told me.

The development company say they were offered two versions of the design. The chaotic pixelated style was chosen because it was seen as “trendy”.

A second version, with a smooth, undulating bridge snaking round the two buildings was dismissed as “too old-fashioned”.

The design will not be finalised until next year, with construction due to begin in 2013.

But as of now, the company says there has been no decision to alter their plans to appease the critics.

“They’ll keep trying to attack us. But as we show this weekend we will continue to be vigilant,” he added.

Security tightened in New York and Washington after they received a warning that al-Qaida may be sending a number of assailants.

Some of them probably are U.S. citizens and plan to do the bombing in one of the city.

The report was accepted by a CIA informant last weekend, they said the information as “information is credible but can not be confirmed.”

In commemoration will be held today in New York, Obama will be accompanied by former President George W Bush.

“America will never forget,” Bush said in a memorial ceremony in Shanksville Saturday local time.

“I originally became president and focused on domestic issues became president in time of war. Something that I never anticipated and I had never expected before.”

The first message was from 0300 local time (0800 GMT), five hours before the first attack in New York and the last 24 hours later.

If the rate of post-traumatic stress (PTSD) has decreased in the months that followed the attacks of September 11, 2001 among all New Yorkers, it remained significant in those who were directly involved. Most affected by this stress are the employees of the WTC (in particular who were in the top floors), who lost the most loved ones and colleagues, firefighters and rescue workers who responded early in the attacks, direct witnesses to the horror.

In addition to the smoke of fires, huge amounts of dust invaded the southern districts of Manhattan on Sept. 11. Among those most at risk, there were 8 to 12% of asthma attacks after five to six years, three times more than the average recall Lorna Thorpe and Stephen Friedman in a summary published by the Journal of the American Medical Association . A decline in lung function was measured in the fire of September 11 in the first year following the attacks. According to the assessment made by Dr. Thomas Farley, the health department of New York, these effects persisted 6 to 7 years after, there are four times more fire and rescue twice whose respiratory capacity is low for their age, compared to before September 11, 2001. The situation is even worse for smokers.

However the link between the attacks on WTC and sarcoidosis has not been established. This condition is an inflammation affecting multiple organs, particularly the lungs. Studies of this disease among the rescuers are not conclusive, they do not exclude a greater attention to be responsible for the largest number of cases observed.
And longer term?

The medical care of victims of September 11, continues. They have probably been exposed to carcinogens such as asbestos, identified by fire towers. A study published this week by the medical journal The Lancet, conducted more than 9,800 firefighters, can not find a significant increase of cancer in firefighters who responded to the WTC. However, these malignancies may appear after a long delay, the conclusion is not final.

As the world marked a decade of the atrocious and deadly attack on the United States of America, no one remembered or paid tribute to the many immigrants who perished without being counted among the victims.

This dreadful but memorable event took place in New York at the same grounds of 9/11, families of the deceased called out names of their deceased in remembrance and respect for their untimely deaths caused by the treachery and malicious act of terrorism by Al Qaeda and its functionaries.

There were many illegal immigrants who worked menial jobs at the World Trade Center who worked there with documents of American citizens under some sort of arrangements to pay a fee for using their work authorization, social security cards and other documentations. These illegal immigrants perished when the World Trade Center went down under false names thus were counted by authorities as people who are actually not dead but gave their documentation to illegal immigrants.

Hence when insurance and other compensations were paid to families of victims, families of people who are alive but had given their documentation to illegitimate immigrants to enable them work in the United States were compensated.

Tributes to heroic Police Officers, Fire Departments workers, SWAT team, Red Cross volunteers and all who died in the cause of duty to save the many victims who were trapped in the building have been gallantly saluted my the United States government and its people, the victims of the attack who were trapped will unequivocally be remembered in the history of the United States. even the insane terrorists have been martyred by those who support their evil and inhuman cause, the only victims who are forgotten and invisible are illegal immigrants who worked hard; African women, men, Mexicans, and other nationals are yet to be recognized officially or unofficially by the New York state and the Federal government.

As a source who personally knew one of the victims explained, “It is awful that people receive the insurance of dead immigrants while their families back home are not even aware of their relatives’ deaths”.

Emmanuel Yaley is a West African immigrant who drives taxi in New York, his friend, an illegal immigrant Augustine Akpene perished at the World Trade Center. As families called out named of their beloved ones who died, Emmanuel couldn’t help sobbing in remembrance of his friend and the fact that he will not be recognized owing to the fact that he worked under the guise of somebody else’s name.

 it appears that these victims out of desperation to make it in America and other booming economies travelled to the United States to do whatever it takes to make a living.

These were not patriotic citizens of America, legal immigrants, law abiding but simply survivors who only cared about where their bread and butter came from. Illegal immigrants mostly live in solitude to avoid having any issues with the law that would automatically have them deported.

The complexity of the immigration issue raises a plethora of underpinning and fundamental issues that state authorities cannot comprehend left alone stay on top of it or find panaceas.

Immigration to the United States has been a major source of population growth and cultural change throughout much of the history of the United States. The economic, social, and political aspects of immigration have caused controversy regarding ethnicity, economic benefits, and jobs for non-immigrants, settlement patterns, impact on upward social mobility, crime, and voting behavior.

it is clear that western governments have a part to play in this when they exploit natural resources such as oil, gold, diamond and leave the countries impoverished, thus the disadvantaged explore ways and means to get their fair share of the pie.

International organizations such as the International Monetary Fund and The World Bank have failed third world countries with programs that have not yielded any substantive results..

The September 11 attack was unarguably an act of evil against humanity which has left affected families still grieving their loss. It will undoubtedly never be forgotten or underplayed.

At least 2,985 people died in the September 11, 2001, attacks, including: 19 terrorists,2,966 victims, 2,998 as of Spring 2009.

All but 13 people died on that day. The remaining 13 later died of their wounds. One person has died since the attacks, of lung cancer. It is suspected to have been caused by all the debris from the Twin Towers.

There were 266 people on the four planes: American Airlines Flight 11 (crashed into the WTC): 92 (including five terrorists), United Airlines Flight 175 (crashed into the WTC): 65 (including five terrorists), American Airlines Flight 77 (crashed into the Pentagon): 64 (including five terrorists), United Flight 93 (downed in Shanksville, PA): 45 (including four terrorists).

There were 2,595 people in the World Trade Center and near it, including: 343 NYFD firefighters and paramedics, 23 NYPD police officers, 37 Port Authority police officers, 1,402 people in Tower one, 614 people in Tower two, 658 people at one company, Cantor Fitzgerald,1,762 New York residents, 674 New Jersey residents, 1 NYFD firefighter killed by a man jumping off the top floors of the Twin Towers.

1,609 people lost a spouse or partner on 9/11. More than 3,051 children lost parents.
While it was mostly Americans who were killed in this horrific attack, there were also 327 foreign nationals. The September 11th Victim Compensation Fund has issued out around $1.5 billion to the families of decedents and those injured in the attacks. Though the average award is $1.8 million, the payments have ranged from a low of $500 to a high of $7.9 million.

While this article does not sympathize with the politicians of our time for the many cruel acts they continue to perpetuate and condone such as unnecessary wars that has killed millions, dropping food and bombs in Afghanistan, exploiting nations for natural resources, torturing prisoners without respect to the human rights, it is evident that all these culminated in creating enemies and sowing seeds of destruction and acts of terror such as 9/11.

It is interesting and worth mentioning the numerous conspiracy theories of 9/11 and documentaries which all seem to point fingers at the George Bush government for their alleged involvement in the attack.

However, Al Qaeda and its operatives who claimed responsibility for the attack will go into history for conceiving and executing such evil against humanity.

It becomes mindboggling human beings plotting to kill so many innocent people who have nothing to do with their cause and that brings to the fore  how incredibly insane the world has become.

Illegal immigration to the United States of America is phenomenal owing to the world paradigm which puts the West and booming economies advantaged over crumbling and weak economies around the world at a great disadvantage thus the exodus and brain drain to the land of milk and honey.

Ironically, this fictional picture of America is utterly fallacious especially since poverty is so rife in America. Unemployment has skyrocketed to 15% in the most recent survey this month of September.

Hence this misinformation and Hollywood depiction of all is glowing in America has contributed to many youth fleeing their countries in search of greener pastures to support themselves and their families back home.

Emmanuel Yaley lives in Bronx where many African immigrants live. “A couple of West Africans and East African immigrants who live in my area perished on 9/11. Not all of them were illegal immigrants but I know a Nigerian immigrant, Ghanaian and Senegalese immigrants who died on that gloomy day”.

It is apparent that African governments are less concerned about their citizens in other countries welfare. They are busy pushing the agenda of the foreign and western governments which is to exploit their own people through corruption and amassing wealth while their people live in despicable anguish and desolation.

In a continent which has half of the entire world’s natural resources, it is pitiful that its leaders continue to beg and succumb to western bullies for the survival of their citizens hence many professionals and non professionals are leaving Africa to all kinds of places, United States, Europe, China in search of better lives causing the apparent brain drain on the African continent.

However, until world leaders recognize the need to bridge the gab in the serious dichotomy among developing nations and developed nations, people such as the illegal immigrants who perished in the September 11 attack will continue to be sacrificial lambs that remain invisible and unknown to the world.
