Should celebrities act out without any consequences? How much longer the society will skip their bad behavior just because they are rich and famous? Hollywood is facing the "loss" of one of its best performers to rehabs and may be jail time.

One of the latest news today is that Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife Brooke Mueller had a restraining order issued against him following his threat to “cut her head off, put it in a box and send it to her mother”. It’s shocking, if it’s true and not just a rumor. Let’s assume it’s true.

Image via Wikipedia

It won’t be the first time Mr Sheen acts like this and certainly won’t be the last given his recent “activities”. But bypassing such a threat is safe to call indecent and dangerous.

Mr Sheen has been known for his bad behavior for years. Many people justify him with the excuse of drug and alcohol abuse and often recommend therapy and rehab. And the story always ends to this point. It would be useful if cognitive and behavioral experts take some more time to consider what would happen in case therapy and rehab didn’t do the job. Often celebrities like Charlie tend to believe that they’re entitled to brutalize people around them and this will not be punished because they’re so rich they can buy any defence they need. And acting out never stops. If a person with history of violence, drug and alcohol abuse is unstable, such person can easily lose control and do something even more terrible. This is the most important issue to take into account.

It’s a common notion in Hollywood that celebrities are haughty and capricious and Mr Sheen does anything to confirm that. Any other celebrities’ attempts to prove this notion wrong gets blown away when someone like Mr Sheen makes another naughty move. Everything spins around like a neverending cycle – one tries to show how good they’re, and right after that another one proves them wrong by threatening or beating their spouse, destroying a hotel room, hitting a reporter, etc.

Everything’s up to one’s consciousness and morality issues. The fact that celebrities are being loved, adored and admired for their talent and entertainment qualities suggests that they must at least keep decent behavior in public. Their whole life is public, nothing can remain hidden. In the spotlights 24/7. Besides most of them are role models to millions of people who desperately want to be like them. Any kind of indecent behavior should not be tolerated neither by Hollywood management nor the fans. Also more severe measures and punishments should be applied to “bad” celebrities for the purposes of prevention or just to teach them a lesson. As long as there are movies, show business, huge investments and devoted audience, there always will be stars. They must know that everything they do leaves its foot print in history of their career and field of occupation. As long as they never forget this, let’s hope there won’t be many more cases like the above mentioned. Because generally there’s nothing wrong to choose a celebrity to be a role model. But let’s choose them according to their good deeds and not because we love bad boys. Bad boys are always trouble. Good guys may be boring sometimes but they’re worth loving, as long as they can teach us how to live properly, decently and morally.

For the sake of all great things Charlie Sheen had done as a tremendous actor (which he actually is), we can only hope he’s capable of changing. Even if it costs him a lot of trouble. Because Charlie is worth the effort to work with. I believe he’s a broken toy that can be fixed. Otherwise he’s facing long periods of rehab treatment and therapies, as well as no filming contracts for a long time. Hollywood industry may soon face losing one of its best performers of all times.

My recollections of "B" list celebrities I have met talked to and more!

For several years I worked in the centre of London at various garages, I was fortunate to meet several “B” listed celebrities. I’ll recount some of my experiences of brushes with the stars!

In 1991 I worked at a Volkswagen garage in Sloane square. It was a particularly sunny day, I was taking the air in front of our service reception. From the workshop I heard many of the car mechanics shouting to some one walking towards the square from Knightsbridge, they all shouted out “Rodney you dipstick” I suddenly saw Nicholas Lyndhurst walking towards me (A star from only fools and horses) I bravely stepped forward and said “Hello Nicholas I’m a great fan of yours, may I have your autograph?” without hesitation he replied “What after that immature outburst from your mechanics! No way”

A few weeks later whilst working at the same garage in Sloane square a colleague informed me that Nicholas Parson was on the phone for me! (Nicolas Parsons of game show fame) I answered the phone as was treated to a barrage of abuse regarding his son’s VW Polo. I had booked his son’s car in for a service not realising who his father was. I had called his son with a list of faults on his V.W. his son was taken aback and said he would get his father to call me directly, and boy did he call me! Infact what didn’t he call me? I was shocked to hear such profanities from a gentle looking game-show host! In reality T.V. personalities are just as human as the rest of us, and I guess Nicolas was having a bad day!

My last brush with celebrity customers from the V.W. garage was Peter Stringfellow (the owner of the famous Stringfellows night club) Peter had booked in his V.W. Golf G.T.I. for a service and brake reline. The work was carried out perfectly and his permission for extra work was given, his bill for the work was £603.00 I remember the amount to this day for reasons that I will explain. I recognised his striking appearance as soon as he walked into our service reception, he had a silver/grey suit on and was sporting long grey hair tied back in a pony-tail.

I presented his bill which he was happy with then he said “If you give me my keys I’ll go back to my night-club and bring you a company cheque, as I’ve left the cheque book in the till” Now I must explain that the garage I worked for (Scotts of Sloane Square) had an iron-clad policy that the vehicles must be paid for before they were handed back to the customer. There had been an instance of non-payment by a customer and the service advisor, ended up paying the expensive bill herself!

Now if I released the vehicle and Peter had became way-laid for one reason or another and had forgotten to return, I would have to pay his £603.00 bill! Red faced I explained the standard payment rules of the company and he said “Don’t you know who I am? I’m Peter Stringfellow! You know the night-club owner!” I continued to explain that I knew very much who he was, however the rules of the company were not flexible and it really wasn’t anything personal.

Now no offence to Peter but he did become very angry he continued to say “So you are going to make me walk to my club and then get a lift back because you don’t trust me!” No matter how I explained the situation he remained angry and stormed out saying over his shoulder in a terminator expression of the day that “I’ll be back!”

An hour passed and a limo pulled up out front and Peter and a huge body-guard stepped into my reception area. The bouncer lifted a canvas bag and put it on the reception counter, peter sat in a chair in the corner and said “Right young man there is £603.00 in £1.00 coins I’ve raided my tills of change, so you better get counting!”

I called my two colleagues for assistance in counting the coins and true to his word there was £603.00 in £1.00 coins! Peter sat in the corner with his arms folded and smiled sweetly to us as £1.00 coins spilled on the floor and under chairs, which sent me and my colleagues scrabbling about for the wayward coins!

Eventually the coins were counted and I released the V.W.Golf, as Peter drove off back to his club my colleague slapped me on the back saying “Why didn’t you ask for some complimentary tickets to Stringfellows you two seemed to hit it off really well!” I chased my colleague out into the workshop with bodily damage in mind!

Part two will follow shortly.

The secret of success in the entertainment industry is to develop a good act. While some of them are delightful and amusing, others turned out to be down right morbid.

Ozzy Osbourne is no stranger to shock tactics when it comes to performing. In 1982, he developed an act that played on that shock factor. He would regularly pelt his audience with pig intestines and calves livers and bite the heads off fake bats as a part of his act. Soon, fans began to bring meat and even dead animals to throw onstage. Things got out of control when, on January 20, 1982, a fan threw a live bat onstage. Thinking it was a fake bat, he picked it up and bit the head off. As a result, Ozzy had to endure a series of painful rabies shots. Surprisingly, the situation happened to him not only once, but twice. He performed a similar act in May, 1981. He had become bored during a record company press conference in Los Angeles, California. As a result, he grabbed one of the doves that were brought in for the event by the publicity department and bit off its head.

Tommy Minnock was a variety artist who plied his trade in Trenton, New Jersey in the 1890’s. Shockingly, he allowed himself to be crucified onstage. As the nails were being driven into his hand and feet while is horrified audience watched, Minnock sang “After the Ball Is Over.”

Dora Oberling was a stripper in Tampa, Florida. One night, in 1996, she cheated death while she was performing onstage. While she was dancing, a dissatisfied member of the audience tried to shoot her. Her life was saved because the bullet bounced off one of her silicone breast implants.

Idi Amin was notorious because of his cruel streak. At an Organization of African Unity summit meeting, Idi Amin entertained his fellow African presidents by demonstrating how to suffocate people with a handkerchief.

In September 1994, a glass eye worn by Armando Boelli, who was in the audience, shattered when a soprano hit a high note during an opera in Milan.

Frenchman Joseph Pujol was a virtuoso as an anal (yes, I said anal) performer. While lying in the bath, Pujol made the discovery that he could modulate sound with completely odorless farting. Pujol took his “act” to Paris, where he became an overnight sensation and, in the 1870’s, even eclipsed Sarah Bernhardt in popularity. His performances included a series of imitations that included mimicking the sounds made by an eight day old puppy, a creaking door, an owl and other sounds. He would then top off his performance by placing a small flute in his rectum and play “By the Light of the Moon. The highlight of Pujol’s career was his continental tour, which was even attended by many of the crowned heads of Europe.

Matthew Buchinger, a seventeenth century German, was the first all-round entertainer. He mastered a dozen musical instruments and was a brilliant magician. He was also an excellent marksman, a superb bowler and an accomplished calligrapher. What made these feats so special was the fact that he was only two feet four inches tall and did not have arms or legs.

Fame is a fickle thing. The desire for it leads one to step on other people, even family, just to acquire it.

I’ve always wondered what a person’s intentions are whenever he/she does something peculiar. It’s not that I distrust everybody; it’s just the way I was raised. I was brought up to be cautious and that’s exactly what I have become. It pays to be a bit more careful because it is an irrefutable fact that a person does not commit an act of his own volition without having any intention or reason behind it. And we all know that not all intentions are noble. That’s why I am wary. With that said, let us now proceed to the main point of this article.

For starters, let me just say that it’s not in my nature to diss people. But in light of recent events, I find myself needing to let out all of my pent-up opinions. What better medium to do that than through writing, right? Well anyway, back to the topic at hand. I harbor no ill feelings towards the person that I’m referring to here. It’s just that his actions sparked the interest of the cynic in me. The timing of it all just hit a nerve…my skeptic nerve, that is.

The guy I’m talking about is an actor; a very famous celebrity during the 1980’s. That was the year his career skyrocketed, I think. I was still a kid that time but I do remember that his team-up with a certain female celebrity, whose dad was a political figure, was a famous one and it led to them getting married. They had a daughter but parted ways because of another woman, or so I’m told by our housekeeper. She was an avid fan of them both and followed their love story relentlessly.

After a series of unfortunate events, he moved to America and started his life anew there. He said during an interview that in all the years he was living there, he still got movie offers but decided to let it all go. Been there, done that so it’s time to move on and all that…. So, this got me asking. Why come back all of a sudden? It was such a surprise; there has been no warning of his plan to make a comeback in show business.

I can’t help but think that this guy is really clever. Why, you ask? Hmm, it’s probably because his daughter just entered into showbiz herself. The public positively adores her; they’ve been pining for her to enter the world her parents were a part of ever since she was a kid. They watched her grow into a beautiful young lady and admired her talents. And now that she finally entered into showbiz, she is an instant success. It was clear that she got special treatment. I didn’t see anything wrong with that, she’s got a nice personality. I only protest if it was someone not worthy of such public adulation.

So, all eyes were on the daughter, her every move was avidly captured by cameramen and news crews. She was the subject in all the news reports, her rise to fame followed by the masses. Then out of nowhere her dad shows up, announcing to the nation that he will be making a comeback. Whoa, something’s not quite right. Why now? Didn’t he say that he got movie offers while he was still in America and he turned them down? What was that?

Suddenly, he’s the one that people are now talking about. He’s the one in every news reports, making appearances in all the right shows, giving out interviews, etc. Hah, stealing the limelight from his daughter! How low is that? Even though he just got back, he’s now involved in a controversy. You know what guys? He’s really smart. The only way to get attention is to create a sensational move. He’s playing with both giant networks in the entertainment industry and it looks like he’s going to get away with it.

Contrary to what he wants the public to believe, he is not a good father nor will he ever be no matter how hard he tries. If he was, he would’ve just supported his daughter and gave way for it is, after all, her time to shine. He would have made more of an effort to be there as she was growing up, not to mention do that with his other daughters with different women as well. Promiscuous, wasn’t he? Fact is he was an absentee dad. His daughters are just kindhearted enough to actually forgive his shortcomings.

He’s had his stint at stardom; he chose to give that up long ago (or so he says). Now, he’s making a comeback and stole all the public’s attention. I guess that’s what he wanted all along, coming back with a bang. He’s just looking for the right time. Oh, he found it all right. But it’s at the expense of his daughter.
