Signposts in communication.

Semiotics Semiotics is an invaluable writers tool. What we write and the way we write it will create impressions on the reader. In turn, the reader has independence to extract personal meaning and relationship with the author. Written words are signposts to a bigger picture. Before we begin to write, contemplation of the work ahead guides us to consider language and imagery that is decipherable to the reader. In order to accomplish this, our words need to convey meaning, and stimulate a rapport.

Language, linguistics, and the written word are powerful tools, enabling us to weild influence over others. After a bedtime book reading, a child drifts happily to sleep, dreaming of angels and hobgoblins of fairyland. At the other semiotic extreme, violent revolutionaries are swept up in psychotic fervor at the literary whim of a maniacal leader.

Song writing is a powerful form of mediated semiotics. Lyric combined with music creates imagery much greater than the individual musical components could. A sweeping ballad with music removed may otherwise be lyrically weak. Words removed from a song may reveal a composition rather repetetive. The chemistry of a band may produce musical results surprising even to its own members. A novelist encounters the same phenomenon in working with expert editors, proof readers, and publishers.

Communication is important to all of us. Two people of different language backgrounds can still communicate adequately if they are semiotically adept. Such persons seem to have a ‘universal personality’ with semiotics bridging the cultural divide. When confronted with a foreign situation such people ajust and fit in, providing worthwhile input in discussion or relationship. There are others, the semiotically deficient, who after living for decades in a foreign country, are still unable to adapt to new language and impressions.

We view our world, and communicate to greater or lesser degrees, aided by semiotics, which encompasses image, gesture, sound, and objects. Semiotics is concerned with anything that can be taken as a sign. In fact, every thought can be a sign. Semiotics in art crosses the boundary of genre, and investigates connotative meaning. The powerful pull of advertising indicates the power of semiotics in the manipulation of consumers. The increased use of imagery: real, animated, or computer generated, adds to the message. When misused, semiotics will leave the viewer/reader as dry as a dog biscuit. Overindulgence becomes semiotics eating itself to death.

Semiotics can also create the opposite of the desired effect if used wrongly. For example, the goal of the political left-wing may become jumbled by using the language of the opposing world view. We often note that left-wing origins of the politically correct are hijacked by mainstream media and political manipulators. Therefore, the politically correct become the new right-wing thought police. Media plays a huge role in semiotic manipulation. In the name of stressing the underlying patriarchal hegemony, media, enforced by political correctness, has been for decades slowly dismantling societal norms.

Even if your home does not exhibit signs of a spirit presence, you could still have a quiet ghost. There are methods that you can use that can help to reveal whether your home is clean or if you have a quiet ghost. Always remember to be polite and respect a presence and its wish for privacy.

Just because you do not hear things going bump in the night or have cold spots in your home does not mean that you do not have a ghost or spirit roaming about. There have been many documented cases of houses that are haunted without the traditional tell tale signs. So how do you know if your home is being haunted or not? There are signs; you just have to know what to look for… and what to feel for. Here are three methods that you can use to find out for sure.

Most animals are sensitive and will tell you if you know what to look for

You or a family member may be exhibiting signs of a haunting right now and not know it

Most quiet ghosts will tell you if you ask

Dogs and cats are much more sensitive to the paranormal or the world alongside of ours than we are. They do not possess any special powers, nor do they use or possess the faculties that we have, such as the power of high reason. Our brain capacity can get in the way. With animals, their lower brain functions means that they do not block what is going on in the outer edges of the dimensions around them… and around us. When we were children, the odds are that we too could see through to the other side, which is really the same side we are on now, only with another layer. Dogs and cats have just enough reason to see and react without becoming afraid except in cases of extreme emotion from the other side.

One way to use your pet to “spot” ghostly activity is to watch for the signs. You can also create the circumstances under which they can see but first, just be observant. Have you ever observed your cat or dog follow nothing through a room with their eyes? They may even move out of the way of something moving through a room. Your pet will not track nothing through a room maintaining steady eye contact with something that is not there. If they behave in this manner, you may have, and probably do have, a spirit entity in your home. The question is… can it see you…, and if it can, does it care? Being a ghost does not mean he or she wants to be known any more than you want to attract attention from the spirit world. They may not see you, or they may and they just want to be left alone.

Children and the elderly may be susceptible to the other side much more than we realize. Is the memory from the past that grandma speaks to at night really just her mind moving farther from reality or is someone from the other side, perhaps someone she really knew, showing her something. A renowned parapsychologist once put this to the test using his own aging aunt. He recorded her conversations and then did a little research. As it turns out, his aunt was speaking to her sister-in-law, who had passed decades before. No one believed because no one recognized the name grandma used or the description.

As a seasoned paranormal researcher, I have conducted many studies into the aged and very young and their visions, or senile rantings, as some doctors like to call them. My own mother started to complain about the people in the yard who kept her awake at night. They would talk and play music and sometimes, they would come to her window and speak to her. After making several recordings of her late night sessions and spending many vigilant nights watching the yard and her window, we discovered something amazing. While we could not hear them and nothing was caught on tape, once we dismissed trying to hear them and concentrated on her one sided conversations, we determined whom she was seeing and speaking with and why she could not recognize them. They were her relatives who had passed on and were wearing their spiritual bodies.

There is a verse in the Bible (2 Corinthians) that states, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Many people, myself included believe that it interprets in the Greek as meaning, basically and paraphrased, when we die, we go immediately to heaven. There are no follow up verses that say that we have to stay there. Heaven is, after all, another dimension. I do not mean to trivialize what paradise is. Where God chooses to be is completely up to Him. It just makes sense that heaven would be in or on another plane of existence.

My mother’s mother was her most common visitor and went largely unrecognized because her spiritual body is around the age of thirty-five. All of us will wear these visages one day if we are true believers. The only reason we were able to figure out the identity of some of her visitors was by the one sided conversations my mother provided on tape. With her mother, it was always about her home in Connecticut, the things she left behind for the family, and her great grand children whom she visited and would like to hold physically.

Finally, if you want to know if you have a spirit in your home (or near it) all you have to do is ask. It is important that you ask in the right way. The best way is the most direct. You do not even have to be present to ask, you can do this via a tape recorder or better yet, a looped computer file. You will have to spend a good half an hour to an hour doing this, but it has worked for me. (and members of my old research team)

Make a recording either on tape or on your computer of your voice asking if there is a spirit present. Ask if it wants to be known. Let the spirit know that if it reveals its presence and its wishes, you will respect it and leave it alone. The thing is that once you make a promise, you have to keep it so do not promise not to enter a room or part of the house that you will eventually have to enter. Be reassuring. Offer to fulfill any wish that it is in your power to fulfill, as in watching a certain program or leaving a television set on somewhere if that is the desire. You do not have to worry about a clear-cut response. A clever spirit that wants something bad enough will find a way to let you know, even though it might take a while.

You can also observe the home itself. If you have ever been reminded of an upcoming television show in unusual ways, you may have a spirit that watches television with you. A spirit that really wants your attention can get it. If you approach gently, the response is apt to be gentle and subtle as well. Be open to changes in your home. We once had a spirit make its desire for music known in the most subtle way. It started by making itself noticed but only around a shelf of books. We pulled each book out, listening to the raps and taps that were not familiar to the house until we discovered which book. We eventually found a picture in the book of Beethoven and were able to deduce that the spirit desired classical music, which we provided with a radio station in a back room with a window and a beautiful view.

If you pay attention and are open to the signs, you can find out whether or not you have a spirit in your home. The manifestations do not have to be startling or even significant to the person who is watching for the signs. If you find you have an angry or vengeful spirit, one who is strong willed enough to carry out acts of violence against you or weaker children and animals, contact your local priest. Very often, the mere presence of a holy man and the threat of banishment is enough to make your mean spirited spirit quiet again. Otherwise, let the powers of Christ compel it and find a priest who will do the job right.

Do men still see women as types: good either for sex or a serious relationship, but not both?

Most men living on this planet, Earth, categorize us, the women in two categories – One that are good for a fling and the other that are potential wives.

Women! Isn’t it ironic that men still see us as either slag or saint and I don’t think that this idea of being immediately labeled as one type or another goes too well with any of us .

So what is a marriage material? Men are basically very old fashioned and want to be mothered, they are always found to be looking for signs of long term compatibility. Although looks are important to them but they’d always have this on their mind for you that “if he is going to have kids with you, are you the woman he is going to have them with’’? And for that they’d mostly lool for your stability, intelligence and etc.

For some men to pick you as his marriage material, your being from the same background is essential. Now this sounds very old fashioned as it turns as being bound in a class but – MEN ARE MEN!

Your sun bed tan, plastic boots would although make you out of place among his social circle but you both would always have a question that who is better than the other?

It’s true. Aren’t we just as guilty of dividing men into sex objects and potential husbands? but the good part is that while we all make decisions about the opposite gender but this statement rarely set a stone because someone who is Miss Right Now can attain a Miss Right as the relation progresses.

So the bottom line here would be get to know someone because everyone has the potential to be Miss Right for someone and everyone has the potential to be someone’s sex object. If you are lucky you can be both.

Happy living!

Sex is a necessity of human life, namely the tendency to reproduce and socialize (with partner). There are many health benefits associated with regular sex, one of which reduce stress and boost the immune system.

When you are in need of sex, the body will actually give certain signals. But these signals are often overlooked, but it can affect your mood even lower stamina.

Here are some body signals that indicate you are need of sex, as reported by Timesofindia, Thursday (03/15/2012):

The best way to recognize the signals of sexual needs is how much of a negative mood is lost immediately after sex. Keep in mind the fact that sex does not always involve two people, in other cases there are considerations for selection of masturbation.

The signs of the Chinese Zodiac and how they relate to relationships, including the advantages, the disadvantages, and relationship advice.

The Chinese Zodiac For Relationships and Compatibility

Compatibility is complicated. There are so many different personality types that it can be difficult to tell how someone will react to a situation or what you can expect from them. Luckily, we have a number of esoteric resources to give us an idea of what to expect from people. The Chinese Zodiac is one such resource. Divided by years, rather than months like the regular Astrological Zodiac, the Chinese Zodiac assigns each person an animal based on the year of their birth.

So how can this help you in dating?

Knowing the advantages and disadvantages of a particular Chinese Zodiac sign can help you in a number of ways. For one thing, it shows you what to expect from the other person. It gives you an idea of where they may have difficulties in relationships, so that you are prepared, should it come up in the relationship. Your own Chinese Zodiac sign is important as well. Knowing where your sign is inclined to be weak and where it is inclined to be strong, can help you to take a look at how you deal with relationships. If you commonly find yourself making the same mistakes associated with your sign’s weak points, you can look into ways to improve on those areas.

The Signs of the Chinese Zodiac

The Rat

Intelligent and witty, the Rat is slow to trust but once a friendship or relationship is built, the Rat is incredibly loyal and loving. Rats make lifelong friends and faithful lovers.

The Good: In relationships, Rats hold their loved ones close. They are loyal, loving, and supportive.
The Bad: Rats are stubborn and hardheaded. Don’t expect your Rat to give in easily.

Dating a Rat: Choose your battles. Your Rats stubbornness can be a problem, but if you let the little things slide, he will be more likely to compromise on the larger issues. Also, try to respect his privacy. Rats trust those they love and expect the same, especially where their personal life is concerned. Snooping or spying is one of the fastest ways to lose a rat.

The Ox

Realistic and good natured, the Ox makes a great friend and a fantastic significant other. The Ox prefers home life to the club scene and enjoy simple pleasures and commitment.

The Good: In relationships, Ox men and women can be the best parts of old fashioned. They have a strong sense of honor and can always be counted on to be there when you need them.

The Bad: Like the Rat, the Ox is stubborn once he makes up his mind and not likely to be swayed. However, on simple matters, the Ox is more likely to let you do most of the decision making.

Dating an Ox: If some of your Ox’s manners seem a little old fashioned, try to see the charm in it. Your Ox man will pull out chairs and open doors for you. He will always remember your birthday. Remember these things, when he seems a little too down to earth. Ox women have some of the same issues. If your girl is an Ox, give her time to get used to new things before you rush her into situations. Her preference for home life means she is more likely to be loyal and much less likely to stray.

The Tiger

Charismatic and bold, the Tiger enjoys new things and new experiences. Tigers love to be at the front of the pack and this transfers over to relationships. Life with a tiger will always be full of fun and adventure.

The Good: If you want someone who will take charge of a situation, a Tiger is a great choice. Tigers are leaders and planners. They enjoy spontaneous dates and mini vacations. With a Tiger, you will never be bored.

The Bad: Sometimes all that excitement can be too much, especially if you would rather stay in. Tigers don’t like to be tied down or held at home. They also aren’t very good at taking the backseat and letting others get their way.

Dating a Tiger: If you enjoy letting others take the lead, you’re in luck. Your Tiger will always have something he or she wants to do. Enjoy the ride, and take a little time for yourself when you need to. Not everyone can maintain the constant energy level of a Tiger.

The Rabbit

Social and sweet, the Rabbit loves gatherings but hates confrontation. Rabbits are careful, with both decisions and money, and rarely do anything without a lot of thought. This makes the Rabbit a great partner for anyone who needs a little realistic advice from time to time.

The Good: In relationships, Rabbits are always careful of their partner’s feelings. You never have to worry about your Rabbit offending you or the people around you and you will constantly be surprised at the amount of kindness and love you receive.

The Bad: Though the Rabbit always considers the feelings of others, most people aren’t so considerate and the Rabbit can easily wind up with hurt feelings. Your Rabbit may not always be able to take a joke.

Dating a Rabbit: When dating a Rabbit, take care to pay a little more attention to the feelings of your Rabbit. Because Rabbits hate confrontation, they won’t always let you know when something is wrong. Give them a little extra attention if they seem upset and they’ll be likely to open up to you.

The Dragon

Energetic and independent, the Dragon has no problem taking charge of a situation. Dragons are charismatic, fun, and love to be at the center of attention.

The Good: In a relationship, the Dragon is quick to make take charge and entertain. Dragons make plans and have the energy to follow through with them

The Bad: The Dragon’s love of attention can be a problem when other members of the opposite sex are concerned. What your Dragon sees as being fun and entertaining, others see as flirtation. Granted, Dragons do love to flirt, though it is most often harmless flirting. Dragons are loyal creatures.

Dating a Dragon: Try to be accommodating of your Dragon’s enthusiastic nature toward other people. While he or she may seem overly flirtatious at times, your Dragon will most likely back off if you ask nicely.

The Snake

Sophisticated and charming, the Snake is a smooth talker and can always find a way into or out of a situation. Snakes are problem solvers and are likely to see elements of each relationship as a sort of puzzle.

The Good: If you have an issue with something in your relationship, there is a good chance your Snake will figure it out and try to remedy the situation. Snakes are good at taking hints and can usually adapt to any situation.

The Bad: Snakes can sometimes come off as being pushy or conniving. They don’t mean to manipulate anyone, but it can sometimes happen.

Dating a Snake: Dating a snake can sometimes seem like a puzzle in itself. If you feel like you are being pushed into something you don’t want to do, speak up. Snakes may be able to take a hint when it comes to gifts or ideas, but they tend to take silent compliance for actual willingness. Let your Snake know when you are uncomfortable or not getting what you want and he or she will do whatever it takes to make it happen.

The Horse

Horses are energetic and outgoing, and always in search of a good time They are friendly and maintain a positive outlook on life.

The Good: If you like to laugh and want a relationship with someone who is funny and witty, then look no further than those that fall under the Horse zodiac. They love to draw attention by making people laugh and feel good. Horses are very open-minded and have a good attitude to go with it.

The Bad: They have a tendency to be very spontaneous and will jump into things quickly, including love. This is not good for someone who wants to take things slow. This is also not good for them as they can get themselves into difficult situations. They will give themselves completely in a relationship which may cause problems to their inner being.

Dating a Horse: Just as the animal, horses love wide open spaces, they love being athletic and a person who wants to be with them should be ready and willing to be out doors and very active. They are full of energy and keeping them cooped up inside makes them flustered.

Goat/Sheep

The Goat is dependable and nurturing. When they are not caring for others they spend their time lost in thought. Even though they will not be in the center of the room at a party, they have no problem being sociable.

The Good: Due to their nurturing natures they are very caring and loving toward any romantic partners. When they have chosen to share their life with another person, that person can be ensured that there will always be love and of course, hot soup when they get sick.

The Bad: Being in a relationship with a goat is not something that will happen over night. Goats are usually reserved, private people and it can take quite a bit of effort to get to know them and get them open up enough to allow you to do so. Also, confrontation is not good for them. When it comes to relationship problems or a breakup, it can overwhelm them to the point it can make them physically sick.

Dating a Goat: Take things slow and let them grow. If it is meant to be the Goat will be the first to let you know, as they are the one who will make the decision. Do not push it. Give them time to themselves and just let them think, they are most comfortable at home with time for themselves.

The Monkey

Monkeys are curious and mischievous, they love a little chaos. They are the ultimate pranksters and with them their friends and romantic partners will never be bored.

The Good: Monkeys adapt well to change and will have no problem with adjusting to new situations or places. When they find their perfect partner, that person can be sure they will have a good time with them.

The Bad: As funny and entertaining as a Monkey can be, sometimes they can take their pranks and jokes too far and hurt people’s feelings or draw the wrong ideas. Also, Monkey’s have a tendency to be promiscuous and can become bored in relationships over time.

Dating a Monkey: Once they find the right person they will settle down. Keep things new and fun so that they will not get bored with the relationship, they love fun. Monkeys are constantly active and if a person wants to be with one they should be prepared for a little mischief.

The Rooster

Roosters radiate confidence and are not afraid to admit it, they will strut their stuff. They are also extremely sociable and active; their feelings are not easily hurt.

The Good: Though they have a tough outer shell their hearts overflow with love and they will care deeply for you though they may not always show it. Roosters may not pull any punches when it comes to being straightforward, however, they will be your biggest support group as well.

The Bad: Monkeys can come off a little pompous and seem to be kind of bossy. If they take on too much at one time they will stress and become moody.

Dating a Rooster: Remember that the Rooster is extremely active and sociable they love to be out and about, think night clubs or concerts. A person who wants to be with a Rooster should have tough skin and not be over-whelmed by confidence.

The Dog

Honest and loyal, the Dog is slow to build trust but incredibly loyal once that trust is established. If you want a relationship with someone who will be loyal and a good listener than look no further than the Dog. Dogs value friendship and are trustworthy with strong morals.

The Good: The Dog is kind and will always be there when needed the most. Their ultimate pleasure is to make sure that those around them are happy. They also are good with money.

The Bad: Even though everyone goes to Dogs with their problems and can count on them to keep their secrets and trusts them completely, the Dog does not trust others so easily. This can cause problems for them to have successful relationships. Partners are often scared away by their cold emotions, insecurities, and anxieties.

Dating a Dog: If you can manage to get a Dog to trust you then they will always be loyal to their partner. Dogs like to have a well-kept and organized home. Try to help them with their problems and show that you truly care, and then the Dog will give you his paw in trust.

The Pig/Boar

Fun loving and generous, the Pig loves a challenge and isn’t afraid to take on a little extra responsibility to make sure things go as planned. Their enthusiastic nature makes them a pleasure to be around and their detail oriented attitude makes certain no one is left out of the fun.

The Good: In relationships, the Pig is always up for trying something new. Pigs are affectionate, sexual, and always willing to take the lead for a new adventure.

The Bad: The Pig’s lust for new things can cause problems when things get a little stale. Pigs tend to move from one thing to another and have difficulty maintaining projects and relationships when they lose interest.

Dating a Pig: When dating a Pig, never expect to sit still for long. Pigs like adventure, fun, and new experiences. They are always looking for a new project, hobby, or interest. If things get too stale, you could lose them. If it seems like things are looking uncertain, initiate a new project or adventure. It will satisfy your Pig’s lust for change, while keeping the relationship whole.

What are the functions of language?

Language shapes man’s life. He acquires and transmits knowledge through words. On the sentimental level , he uses it to express his feelings, thoughts, emotions , and sentiments; on the instrumental level, he uses it as a tool for advancement.

Language is what separates man from beasts. This is explained by Bertrand Russell: “No matter how eloquently a dog may bark, he cannot tell you that his parents were poor but honest.”

To understand humanity, we must know the functions or uses of language, the language that makes us human. Among the various functions of language are the referential, conative, emotive, and poetic functions.

The referential function establishes the relationship between language and the world (as in science and history). Here, one has to verify whether the statements are true or false , a distinction between fact and fancy.

The conative function aims to find out the effect/s of the language upon the reader or listener (as in political conviction or persuasion). Conation means endeavor to affect someone with the power of language.

The emotive function establishes the relationship between language and the speaker (as in autobiography, diary, confession). The statements have to be verified to find out if the speaker or writer is sincere or not.

The poetic function is interested in the artistic nature of the language (beauty of expression and truth). How does language work as verbal art? The chief orientation of the poetic function of language is “toward the message” , and so one has to focus on the message for its own sake. Poetic function thus makes verbal art meaningful without reducing it to a referential representation of the real world.

There is no justification for attempts to confine such poetic conventions as meter, alliteration, or rhyme to the sound level alone. Sound and meaning should prevail. The poetic function should form as foreground to the material nature of words rather as windows into the world.
