The right side of the body is controlled by the left hemisphere of the brain, while the left side of the body is taken care of by right hemisphere of the brain. Therefore, those born with left-brain dominance would tend to be right handed, while others with right-brain dominance will become left-handed. Since the baby is so comfortable with one side of the body, it is natural that they would not like to change and deviate from their comfort zone and this prevents them from choosing to be ambidextrous in their lives. However, once the person realizes that they have to use both the hands, such as when bicycling, typing, etc, they tend to gain comfort with both sides on a selective basis.

Physiological Complexities:

When the baby learns to write, it would choose the dominant hand, right hand in most cases, to hold the pen and write symbols that represent the text of the language that he/she is learning. Even for the dominant and more comfortable hand, it is very tough for getting the right shape of the symbol with the properly written straight lines and curves and joints that are made at the right points. It takes a few weeks to months and even years to get conversant with the right type of writing, with the help of tools such as handholding techniques and handwriting notebooks.

High Expectations; Giving Up Too Early:

When the person wants to be ambidextrous and tries to write with their non-dominant hand, they want instant results and do not have the patience of the child or the enterprising ability of the young mind. A couple of days of passionate scribbling would lead to dropping this attempt totally, which is what happened to me after a couple of weeks. However, then I realized that it took some time to make the right arm learn to write when it was a baby of about less than a half a decade old. Now that the left arm has grown up comfortably without taking up risky but adventurous exploits such as writing, it is tough to give it training to do something that it has never done for more than one and half decades of its existence. Gentle guidance and self motivated attempts made it dexterous enough to write independent alphabets then graduating it to the speed of the right hand.

Social Taboo:

First reaction from my friends and even from mother when they watched me write in left (to fill crosswords) while I was having food with my right hand is to say that it is not good to write using your left hand and it is a social taboo, etc to wane off that habit. But after explaining its need, she accepted it and even admired it later on. Many southpaws have been disoriented by their superstitious parents, who diligently try to change their child to become right handed, which they would not succeed completely. Parents and society should accept the fact that both arms are to be given equal importance and one need not just follow the herd just because the majority follows the same pattern, which would cause huge irreversible damages in their lives.

While it is important to appreciate ambidextrousness, it is equally important to gain some degree of dexterity with both the arms so as to achieve new heights in life.

My husband used to drink but as he rose the ladder of success, he eventually become an alcoholic brat and would often beat me in front of my innocent kids, their childhood too was at stake. I was the victim of most elusive crime of our society, yet i continued to respect him. We were advancing towards a disaster, unknown and silent as it was.

My husband paid a heavy price for being an alcoholism. One day without any warning he passed away and left us in Bewilderment. I had no one to look for help, a young widow with two kids side by side, nowhere to go, what to do! how would i survive, i had remained in house for the last fifteen years, although i was graduate,but never worked. God had been very kind to me, some of my wellwishers came forward and helped in getting a job for me, i bow my head to these kind people. My friends were very caring they kept pressuring me to re married, i reluctantly agreed upon and then this gentleman came into my life. He was an angel sent by god to pamper me, reward me for all those sufferings i had gone through. He had very little time as though he knew it,he did everything in haste, wanting to fulfill all my unexplored desire, he taught me the true meaning of love, life was running at a very fast pase, every fiber of his being was immencely in love with me, even my kids were very fond of him.I only disclosed about re marrying to my parents and few of my friends,in india re- marriage is still a social taboo.

In his passionate presence soon i forget all the pain that has been inflicted upon me by my ex- husband, moved by his serene approach we worked out a date to our marriage, it was yet to be announced, but unaware of what lies ahead. My destiny had something else stored for me. The day he was to announce the date he passed away in his sleep.I feel not ashemed to admit that his death left me shattered, i owe a great respect to him, he was a true angel

Why all this happening to me? why?………the one who was so crual to me  was after all my husband, he left me alone, then this angel came into my life, left me alone too! tell me why?………..reeta looked into my eyes, soacked with tears. She left with a heavy heart, i sat there for a long thinking why this world is so crual, why re marriages are still a social taboo.

But what about the people who are alone at Christmas? They span every age group from teens to seniors but it is a group that never seems to get a look in at this time of year. A bit like the singleton on Valentine’s Day – being alone at Christmas either conjures up pity or disbelief – depending on the root cause! But some people choose to be alone.

A few years ago, finding myself newly divorced and with a lovely but slightly dysfunctional family – I found myself with the prospect of spending Christmas alone. I had a few generous offers, from friends and family alike, to spend Christmas with them. But the truth was I wanted to be in my own home!

I know this may seem strange, but I was coming to terms with being single again and there was some sadness attached to this, so therefore I wanted to be somewhere familiar.

I didn’t want the pressure of living by someone else’s rules, customs and traditions as I was not in the right frame of mind to do so.

So I decided to spend Christmas alone. I was fearful at first as it just didn’t seem right but I came to realise that the only thing I was really battling with was the fact that spending Christmas alone – by choice- is a taboo!

I can honestly say (weird as it may sound) that it was one of the best Christmas days that I have ever had).  I met some friends for drinks on Christmas Eve which I really enjoyed and then set off home for my Christmas Day alone.

It’s not that I want to be alone every year – of course not – but let’s face it, there may be a time when it’s necessary again and now I do not fear it!

The best thing about spending Christmas alone was:

• My own schedule, having a lie in, eating when I wanted and not having to fit around anyone else’s plans
• Eating what I wanted, when I wanted!
• Watching what the hell I liked on Telly and not having to compromise
• Chatting to various people on the phone to hear snippets of their day – and the various moans that went with it!
• Having no-ones mess to clear up but my own

I like spending Christmas with someone special and this year I am -but if you are on your own this year, make the best of it and ENJOY! It’s another thread in life’s rich tapestry!
