At essence, the problem is this: our education system has become too grade-centric. Teachers and students alike care not for the subject of their textbooks, but instead for the grades on their report cards. Each year’s classes no longer represent learning opportunities and topical enrichment, they represent numbers; digits that will either boost or weaken a GPA.
