The Shared Experience: 11:11

For the past two decades, the number 1111 has invaded the lives of people all over the world. We wake night after night to see the digital clock announcing that it is 11:11 p.m. We notice 11:11 on microwave clocks when, in fact, that isn’t the time at all. We are confronted by $11.11 as the total of our purchase at the coffee shop or we see 1111 on the license plate of the care ahead of us or as the last four digits of phone numbers screaming at us from billboards.

Probability

Common sense as well as statistical probability tell us that 1111 is bound to turn up in our lives from time to time. The human mind actually looks for recognizable patterns, which is why we can see puppies and apple baskets in the clouds, so perhaps the simple symmetry of 1111 may catch our attention because we can easily process the pattern. Is it that, having noticed that particular series of numbers, we are actively looking for it afterward? Many assume this to be the case, but if that’s true, why aren’t a multitude of people seeing 1212 or 666 on a regular basis and in all sorts of places?

Meaning

No one knows what this excess of elevens is all about, but all theories point to transformation. Those who experience this phenomenon report a sense of urgency associated with the numbers. “It’s as if someone is sending me a message,” says Carrie L., who first noticed a plethora of elevens on November 11, 2003. “I feel like someone is telling me, ‘Hey! This is important!’ but I have no idea what ‘it’ is or what I’m supposed to do about it.

Some speculate that the upsurge in 1111 sightings is related to the December 21, 2012 solstice, which will occur at exactly 11:11 Universal Time. Others believe that the numbers remind us that angels are with us, and a popular theory holds that the numbers open the Gateway to a remarkable evolution in humanity. Almost everyone who experiences the presence of 1111 agrees with Carrie that it is a message; it just isn’t directed at the message center of the brain.

It appears most likely that 11:11 is an activation code sent directly to our DNA for the purpose of ‘rewiring’ us. The repeated sightings suggest that we are being programmed in increments, so that transformation of consciousness occurs gradually. If this is the case, the small changes that occur with each exposure would be subtle so as not to cause harm to body or mind through a too-rapid or too-massive alteration.

Gradual change goes largely unnoticed. That’s why we are shocked when we attend our class reunions and see that our friends have gotten older while we haven’t changed since the senior prom. We grow accustomed to the face we see in the mirror each day, but if we compare our yearbook photo to the image in the mirror, we would, of course, realize that we are no longer the same fresh-faced youth, either.

If you are experiencing the elevens, one way to test this theory of gradual transformation for yourself is to keep a journal. The content can be anything that seems relevant to you at the moment – your spiritual insights, philosophy, or even your thoughts on the 11:11 phenomenon. Do not re-read your journal entries more than once a year. I predict that when you compare your recorded self from today to the ‘you’ you will be a year from now, the difference will astound you.

Why 11:11?

The number 1 represents beginnings, transformations, and new opportunities. In short, 1 brings change. Those few who find the presence of 11:11 frightening may be keying in on the concept of change, which is often uncomfortable and fear-inducing. Those who experience a burst of excitement and anticipation when confronted with 11:11 are likely feeling the energy of hope, which accompanies new adventures.

But is it really a number? Might the 1111 be the closest approximation we have to a symbol or a code? In short, could 11:11 be speaking to us in a language either unknown to humans or long forgotten?

The slow, rolling changes in consciousness that occur as a result of activation will continue until the process of transformation is complete. As we incorporate new cultural concepts, we move ever closer to a paradigm shift that will shape the character of the new era.

Meanwhile we can spend our time wisely by getting closely acquainted with our own evolving selves. Through meditation, centering prayer, or soul study, we can acknowledge and welcome the updates to our collective psyche. Through our actions and our words, we can share the benefit of any wisdom we gain. And through patience and honesty, we will eventually understand the role we are to play in the future.

Soul Choices and the Spiral of Evolution

On many levels the soul doesn’t give us choices as it knows that we need to experience regardless of our mental reservations and so designs the physical, astral, emotional and mental bodies that together will make up the appropriate vehicle for the required earthly existence. These bodies cause us to attract the experiences we need without our conscious consent as the soul knows that although it may take many lifetimes, in the long run, the suffering that we have endured in order to learn our lessons will be far outweighed by the boost in consciousness that we will experience. This is why suffering fades in the memory and that which doesn’t can be dealt with later via our healing cycles whilst our advances in consciousness achieved during Earth plane existence endure from incarnation to incarnation because they are stored in what is referred to as the “permanent atom” which is a dimension of our soul. This dimension can be easily re-stimulated once we have reached sufficient physical, emotional and mental maturity to handle such a reawakening in our subsequent incarnations. This is why so much of our subjective learning is punctuated by the “Aha!” experience as we bring back to consciousness some of the truth which is already stored deep within ourselves.

All evolution occurs in a cyclical fashion, spiraling to a point of completion wherein the soul is finally satisfied. Between each incarnation we have a period of rest before the desire for expansion becomes strong once more, pulling us towards every experience, physical, spiritual and emotional until finally we reach ultimate enlightenment, releasing us from the need for physical expression.

Any episode involves the following formula:

Expression, Experience, Expansion

and an episode may take place within one lifetime or may extend over many before real awareness which leads to healing is attained. A spiritual wound is any condition that causes us deep and enduring emotional distress, regardless of how the same circumstances might affect any one else. Wounds may be based on internal or external factors and may be inflicted on us by others, or by Fate; the condition may be permanent or may be something that can be eased or even erased over time, however in almost every case we feel that our wound is unfair and/or undeserved, though our experience will be very different, depending upon what stages we are at in our healing. Fixing or repairing our wounds is not really our goal in the long term scheme of things…it is the expansion of consciousness that results from working through such wounds that truly moves us forward in our spiritual evolution.

Greater understanding of our wounds makes this happen faster and it is often helpful to picture yourself actually wearing a name tag that announces your wound clearly to the world, allowing you to experience in your imagination how it would feel not to have to try so hard to carry on in spite of all that is afflicting you. Traditionally, wearing black clothing or arm bands ort other such expressions of mourning excused the grieving person from having to meet society’s usual expectations during their period of mourning however these days we have largely abandoned such practices which in many ways is a shame.

Bringing out our struggles and making them public can elicit differing reactions. Some of us will feel ashamed or found out when we open ourselves up whilst others will still only be able to bring themselves to show secondary struggles rather than the main thing that truly ails them. Others still will feel a sense of relief that they no longer have to hide such a big part of their lives and their identity and yet others, given the choice would struggle to make it.

Admitting to others that we are wounded is a necessary step towards healing and that is why in twelve-step programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous the first step towards healing is for the participants to present themselves and admit their addiction, thus identifying openly with that which they’ve tried for so long to hide or deny. Admitting your wound, even only to yourself at first helps you to free up some of the energy that you are using to develop and maintain your facade. Unconsciously we are all able to some extent to read the wounds of those around us, energetically and as such, at a deeper level, nothing is really hidden. As we continue to evolve on a spiritual level, it will become more and more possible for us to read one anothers energy fields and when that time comes, we will no longer be able to deny our issues and so will be forced to deal with them much earlier.

The degree of impact that your wound has over you is the measure of its power to transform you as this becomes the theme around which your life is organised until healed. As such, our wounds may be seen as a part of a conspiracy between our souls and the journey of our lives.
