Here are a few careers you might find tempting.

It’s been awhile since I did an article on odd jobs, not because I lack motivation but it isn’t as easy as you would think to find all those strange careers out there that people actually get paid for. However, if the economy the way it is, I know many people are looking for work right now and this article is for those people who say they will take any job as long as it is honest work.

Here are a few jobs you might want to keep your eye out for.

Ostrich Babysitter

This is an honest to goodness job. With Ostriches being raised as a source of food now as well as for other things they actually hire someone to sit out in the middle of their ostrich ranch and make sure that these birds don’t peck one another to death. ( I can’t help wondering if there is hazard pay that goes with this job.)

Confederate Solider

This may be a strange job, but it also sounds like a fun one to me. With all those tourist places like Disney world and forts that portray people in historical garb those people have to get paid. I once had an opportunity to interview a young man who plays the part of a British solider at a local fort in my area each summer and the job really sounds like fun. Whether you are a cartoon character, a jousting knight, or a barkeep playing a role for these places can earn you money and perhaps, give you a split personality.

Fortune Cookie Writer

With all of us freelance writers looking to make money I felt I just had to mention this gem of a job. After all, someone has to think of those sayings that are stuffed in those little cookies. If you are good at giving sage advise in short bursts this job may be right up your alley.

Airplane Repossession

Want to make over $100,000.00 a year. Try a new and exciting career in plane repossession. Of course you have to know how to fly any kind of bird there is and like a car repossession you need to deal with some angry people. By the way some of these guys carry guns.

Furniture Tester

Yep, that’s right, someone actually sits on your sofa and naps in your bed before you buy it. They get paid for it too! Imagine, sitting in a lazy boy for 8 hours a day! You probably won’t be able to wait to get home and relax from all that stress.

Fecal Archaeologist

That’s right you can contribute to science by studying the waste of people who died centuries ago to determine what they ate. Do you think your girlfriend or boyfriend will be impressed to learn what you do for a living?

Worm Grunter

My personal favorite. These people are the ones who gather those night crawlers bait stores sell and if you have ever viewed one of these guys in action it really does take some talent! They even hold worm grunting contests and compete for prizes. I am actually considering giving this a try, on a purely non professional level.

Perhaps, flipping burgers for that fast food change doesn’t seem like such a bad job afterall.

Eight ways to make a living that you may have never heard of before.

Are you tired of doing the same old job day in and day out? If so then some of these jobs just might be the thing that you are looking for.

Odor Tester

This job does seem to be more than a little unpleasant, and I’m sure that not just anyone would want to do it. But someone has to, and I’ve heard that the money can be good. If you have the nose for it, that is.

Weed Farmer

No, I’m not talking about the weed that you can smoke! Weed farmers actually grow weeds and then sell them to horticulture schools and labs for research purposes. I know it sounds a little more exciting than it really is but they do provide an important service.

Carny

Who didn’t dream about running away to join a circus or carnival as a young child? If you love to travel and meet new people then this just might be the job for you. True you usually don’t spend more than a couple of nights in each town, and the work is hard. But the pay is good and you’ll never find yourself bored with this job.

Pet Food Tester

It’s hard to believe, but some pet food manufacturers actually employee human taste testers. I would think that they would do better using pets, but the testers say that they have trained their palate to detect the types of foods enjoyed by cats and dogs.

Furniture Tester

This is one job that’s sure to excite any couch potato. Can you imagine actually getting paid to sit on a couch? This would be the perfect job for me, just as long as I had my laptop. But unfortunately the job isn’t as glamorous as it sounds. After all not just anyone can do a job like this one.

Snake Milker

A snake milker collects venom from a live snake, snake milking is vital to produce antivenin. With the price of some snake venoms bringing $2000 per gram, in spite of the obvious dangers snake milking can be a very profitable job. Most snake milkers will be bitten several times during their career. Luckily for them antivenin is always close at hand and because of this death from the bites is extremely rare.

Laughter Therapist

Laughter it has been said, is the best medicine. Believe it or not there really is a big calling for laughter therapists. Laughter has been found to relieve pain and stress and contributes to a persons overall health by boosting a persons immune system. Overall this one sounds like a pretty good job.

Wrinkle Chaser

This job actually has nothing to do with your skin. And I guarantee that if you try and use an iron to remove facial wrinkles all you’re going to end up with is a nasty burn. But it would be nice of we could just smooth out our skin so easily. A wrinkle chaser, a job by the way that is in high demand inspects and removes wrinkles from shoes using a specialty iron.
